No matter the field, studying can be challenging. But some branches are notorious for being more draining than others, and medicine is undoubtedly one of them.
While becoming a doctor is a dream to many, the title is not easily obtainable – before being able to add a Dr. to their name, people have to go through years of grueling studying and training. If you’re one of such people, we have something that might make the load just a little bit more bearable; if you’re not, you will get a chance to see what being a med student is all about.
On the list below, you will find some memes, as shared by the ‘Medical Way’ Instagram account, that perfectly sum up the lives of said students, so scroll down to view them and find comfort in the fact that you’re not alone, Dear Future Doctor.
Below you will also find Bored Panda’s interview with Professor of Psychology at Williams College, an expert in human learning and memory, Dr. Nate Kornell, who was kind enough to answer a few of our questions on the topic of studying.

Mines crumbled I need lumbar injections every 12 weeks…kinda like my mental health!
It all makes sense now, everything would be fine except Kevin jinxed it
When you’re no longer a student—after enough time has passed—you might look back at that time with a soft nostalgic smile: the hours spent with fellow students, the coffee breaks between lectures, that one incredible professor who would always motivate you to reach for the heights – there are usually at least some positive things to look back on.
But then there are also the sleepless nights, the increased heart rate before exams (often caused by a mix of stress and immoral amounts of coffee), and many other less romanticized aspects of being a student.
But through both the fun times and the hardships, students tend to stick together, as there is a certain kind of comfort in the fact that you’re not alone. Or they find something else they can relate to, such as—in the case of med students—the posts shared by the ‘Medical Way’ Instagram account.
Aside from the fact that I'm assuming you meant mouth I was just going to say this! (Auto complete gets us all sometimes)

The hardest part was finding that many giraffes willing to sign the consent forms.

When you can master this: ᝰᏪຊ ᝰ.ᐟ you will officially have your doctorly handwriting managed! 😉
Load More Replies...Obviously printed, then hand signed. The writing is not properly "joined up," as it would if an actual person had written it.
I've only seen my Doctor's handwriting when he sign his name on the prescription forms that the computer printer spits out.
Started back in 2020, the ‘Medical Way’ Instagram account has already amassed a million followers, many of whom are likely to be future doctors. While for some people, choosing such a field of study might seem difficult to comprehend, for others—those who are seeking to change lives and make a difference—there is rarely any doubt about it; that is until it’s time to pass their exams. (Anyone who’s ever been a student knows just how strongly having to cram information can make you reevaluate your choices.)
What money? Teachers get very little money.

Home economics, music, woodworking, photography, mechanics (vehicles), cursive writing, and more, would be tought in school, when I was growing up.
This is me telling my doctor what to prescribe me and what my diagnosis is because he won't spend more than 20 minutes in the room with me. The American healthcare system is a joke.
It's all subjective really. I have a great doctor in the US who saved my life when several of my Canadian doctors wrote me off 🤷♀️
Load More Replies...I remember when I was studying web design in University here in Scotland, that one of our "lecturers" was in fact a Research Fellow and literally had no idea bout the subject. At one point, she was accessing tutorials from the Chrome browser - right in front of us as we sat in class. This same Research Fellow, was also "teaching" the graphic design students, and at this time, 2007 we were using Adobe Flash. We as web students were part of the class and if we built our project, which was some form of safety message, as a website we'd fail. Instead we had to produce an ordinary project the same as the graphic design students. When we took this up with the Senior Programme Tutor, the same guy who created the entire programme, he didn't realise that she was a research fellow and that she got her tutorials online in front of us, or that we'd fail a class if we as web students, submitted a web site in Flash.
I would personally much prefer a large intestine shaped room.

It can make you feel like your studying has meaning.”

What animal puts their feet on the dash? Do that in my car you get smacked.
Do that in my car and I will pull over, stop and make you get out. I don't care if we're in the middle of a deserted road in or near Death Valley during an unprecedented heat wave.

He actually now has a...boner? I doner what the rest of the picture shows. Definitely broken the left femur, right one probably is also, in addition to the obvious dislocation. Egads!
Something like that happened to a guy I know but he was on a sled and crashed against a wall. He got up, walked to his car, drove himself to the hospital and fainted. Adrenaline is a wonderful thing.
If that's a female (I am not a doctor) good luck having a vaginal delivery.
It goes without saying that studying medicine definitely calls for cramming information. Constantly. But there is much more to it. According to Dr. Kornell, “Studying medicine requires various kinds of learning, ranging from developing a deep understanding of biological processes to memorizing a lot of information; each of these poses its own challenges and benefits from different kinds of studying.”
I got the highest score in my personal finance and econ class :D... do i know the difference between gross and net taxes... i do-nut 🥲
That's good, because those doesn't exist! It's gross income vs net income.

Do you know what they call the med student with the lowest grades and lowest ethics score on graduation day????? Doctor.
Same is true for lawyers and their paralegals and secretaries.

This goes out to a former supervisor: "If you're going to work in the nuclear industry, it's pronounced "NEW-CLEE-AR" not "NEW-CUE-LER."
Expanding on the topic of cramming information, the expert suggested that the most effective way to do it is actually… not cramming it. “Learning a lot in a short time can work in unintuitive ways. It requires taking time to think deeply about each new piece of information: Why is it true? Why is it important? How does it work? These modes of thinking are not as fast as zooming through, but they make the learning stick much better.
“But... The best way to cram is to avoid cramming: plan ahead, stop procrastinating, study ahead of time, space your studying out, and then when it comes time to ‘cram’ you can go ahead and keep studying, but from a much better position,” Prof. Kornell explained.

According to the expert, it’s crucial to take care of yourself (to sleep well, for example) so that you have the energy you need to grind through studying. “It's like exercise – you can't have endurance without rest,” he said. “And get in the habit of studying every day; habits are powerful and make studying easier. Students who take days off and wait until the pressure is on often wish they had studied earlier and more evenly throughout the week.”
They were unionizing (I mean that in a funny way, I'm pro-union lol)

Yeah, I’m a Sephora lady. It *definitely* adds up. But my skincare routine and haircare are my coping routines. It’s something I have control over, unlike so much else. And I have depression, and treating myself nicely in this way is my one form of self-love. My Irish ancestors blursed me with these curly locks, so I guess I ought to feed her the expensive oils.

Idk why you were down voted. I set ya back to zero. My mom is a pharm tech and she can read a doctor's writing like it's printed in normal legible writing.
Load More Replies...The pharmacist is a severely underrated medical resource. The doctor knows what a medication does, but the pharmacist knows more about side effects, possible interactions, and when and how to take a particular medication for effectiveness. I've learned to rely on my pharmacist for a ton of medication concerns more than my doctor; they even know more about dosing for OTC medications like ibuprofen or Tylenol (especially for young children).
My pharmacist has had to call my doctor a couple of times because his hand writing was completely illegible 😂

So glad I decided to become a veterinarian. No residency required although I did have to do one to get my board certification in animal dentistry. At least I got to snuggle my patients. I guess these guys could too, but that might cause a whole other issue lol.

You can buy them on amazon. they're very handy to have around the house.
My parents are idiots, they ask me (the media doctor) for medical advice. Then they proceed to go to another doctor, because they don't believe what I said. 'We changed your diapers, so we can't take you seriously!' Especially when I tell them things they don't want to hear. When they come back, 99% of the time the other doctors told them the very same thing
Ima take a guess and say... heart transplant and relations to the directional positioning of the body... dont fact check me on this its been 4 months since anatomy class...
