We perceive reality judging the facts we are given. We know that some things are true because we have proof or logical explanations for them. But there are things that we just know are true that we don't have evidence for. It might be things in your personal life or just about life in general.

Because there is no evidence for such things, everyone can believe what they want. Reddit user UnbentJohnson came up with the question, "What do you KNOW is true without evidence? What are you certain of, right down to your bones, without proof?" The Reddit thread got nearly 100k upvotes and more than 50k people shared what they believe is true but it could be difficult to convince others that it is.

What would you answer to this question? We are curious to know, so leave a comment down below and upvote the answers that you feel might be true!

That’s great, but it can be ruined by people who see this fact and acknowledge it and reap the benefits but refuse to show others the same kind of unconditional love. I don’t mean loving your husband after he turns into a murderous bigot or something. I mean people have so many conditions on their love towards their own partners and families and friends. But then praise a dog for not. All while bragging about their boundaries and rules and expectations.

Someone Asked “What Are You Certain Of, Right Down To Your Bones, Without Proof?” And 40 Folks Delivered That gardening is the secret to happiness. Sounds super strange, especially coming from someone like myself - an ex world of Warcraft gamer. I had kids, got busy with work, wanted out of the suburbs, got some land in the country, and started planting stuff. Years later I have what I call a food forest. I have replaced lawns with fruit trees, bushes, vines, flowers, all woven together to mimic a natural forest - except everything in it is edible. It has changed my life completely. I just think there's something about being outside in the sun, feet on soil, hands in dirt, planting s***. Watching it grow in the background of your life. Going out and checking on it and watching how much bigger it is getting. Watching life find it, and now you get to live WITH the natural world, not isolated from it. Birds making nests in your trees, frogs making home in your ponds, seeing bees all around your flowers, butterflies everywhere. Rabbits and squirrels moving in, then owls moving in to eat those. It's this wonderful trophic cascade that you started, and it's incredibly rewarding. Plus, being able to just walk outside and get chemical-free nutrient-rich dinner is amazing. I actually think a big reason depression is such a big thing these days is because we have all become so disconnected from the life that we evolved in for the last 6 million years. We evolved walking around savannahs and forests, pulling food off bushes and trees, out in the sun, feet in the soil, hands in the dirt. We couldn't be further from that, living inside our isolated homes, cars and offices. It's no wonder we're all so depressed. I think gardening is the secret to happiness.

Haha, same! Bought a house with a big garden, convinced I'd get into it. Nope. Hate, hate, hate it. The bugs, the dirt, the bending over, the constant battle against the elements (water the plants, it's too dry, whoop, now it's too wet and there's weeds everywhere, whoop, now it's autumn, time to rake those leaves). Yuck.

I couldn't live without access to internet, I'll admit that, but I also couldn't live without having even a small space to call a garden, where I can grow some herbs and such, which is what I currently am doing, alongside some tomato plants and peppers etc. When you have something you grow that you can turn into a meal that same day there's such a sense of pride that makes you feel great. That said, unfortunately sometimes sadness and depression can't be helped, I'm Schizophrenic and have DID so my mental health is rubbish, but gardening is a good way to keep your mind off of things too.

Hard disagree on this one. You found your passion and that's fantastic for you, but everyone's secret to happiness differs. My parents love to garden but I despise it. I take greater comfort in city noise than wildlife noise. People suffer from harsh allergies to the point of death. Again, good for you, but never assume what works for you is an insta fix for all.

On the other hand, there's a logical fallacy in assuming that because we are alive, life is likely to occur. If (just as an example) there is a 1:1000000000000000000000000000000 chance for it to happen, and it didn't happen, we would never know. We cannot use our existence as an argument that there should be any others.

That and the fact that what we now witness as the universe has been in progress for billions and billions of years. How many countless civilizations, life forms, planets and even entire solar systems have since come and gone, come and gone, come and gone as we one day will? Our solar system lies at the edge of the Milky Way galaxy, so we are relatively the new kids on the block, so to speak. Think about the vastness of time as well as the vastness of the universe.

Latest estimate is two trillion galaxies. Each galaxy having trillions of planets. If one civilization were to evolve out of every million galaxies just once we would still not be alone. The odds of being alone are something on par with winning the lottery a thousand times.

I agree with this to a point. We allow politicians who like to boast about how they did poorly in school, were the class clowns, etc dictate what should be taught in school. If you're the rich people who want to keep good education out of reach for the poorer people the best way to do that is to vilify public schools and demand more 'rigorous' testing policies that have little to do with actual student progress. This way the public schools have to spend more time testing than they do teaching so that the poor students get less education than the kids whose parents can afford private schools who aren't subject to those required tests. It's funny how politicians constantly point to public schools' failing standardized test scores, and tout private schools as the answer, yet never talk about how those private schools don't have to offer Special Education, take standardized tests, or even follow the mandated common core standards.

Because generally the people who believe the earth is flat are also the people who are heavily into conspiracy theories. For example, I've been told that the earth is flat, and surrounded by some kind of magical force or casing (the name of it escapes me at the moment), that there's an actual WORLD government that controls and protects the edge of the world,, specifically the North and South poles because that's where the ice wall is and something about protecting advance tech that they don't want the world population to know about etc etc. So to them it's not just "hey the earth is flat not round" it's "hey there's massive government coverups and they're controlling our entire lives!"

I am sure the truckers are making sure I'm in the right lane because I let them merge in front of me. I hate not being able to see what's ahead but if I let one over I seem to have easy merging later. I use my blinker a lot too. I always pick the correct lane. ☺️

The reason the other lane is moving faster is because other people were switching away from that lane ahead of you. Now apply that to other people in the same lane you switch from and you know why the lane you switch to suddenly become slower.

I love it! Especially because even though we are a small suburb all of the streets are 2 lanes each way. I know the timing of the lights and where people are likely to turn left without a turn lane. Don't speed through the locals area😂

This has actually been studied. A study of the traffic cameras on the M25 & M1 in the UK showed that if one lane was moving faster, more people would try to move into that lane, creating more cars in that lane, creating a larger backlog causing it to slow down, this however means less cars in the lane you were just in, meaning the traffic moves up to close the gaps and appears to be now moving faster. As cars are changing lanes, they are travelling a further distance adding more time to the journey and the whole process takes longer. The fact is, if everyone stayed in their lanes and stopped hopping, everyone would get there sooner. Unfortunately you will never get everyone to do the right thing.

Like Donald Trump. Some people actually think he's an extremely smart and savvy businessman thanks to The Apprentice and one ghost-written book that the author says he regrets writing. The truth is he's gotten by on other people's knowledge and skills, daddy's money, massive loans, and a bunch of really shady sh*t. I'm 100% convinced he's got legit ties to Russian mafia. If Trump hadn't been born into a wealthy family who could buy his way into good schools, he'd probably be living on the street ranting at strangers about the apocalypse.

I so agree with this. I think the proof for this is that many of them stay in their jobs for decades and you can't really pin anything down to what they have done. Then just as many seem to stay for a year or two, get a big severance package and jump to the next business. I mean, at the end of the day, you are selling stuff and you want people to buy it. I have an MBA and I think it's a pretty simple formula.

Someone Asked “What Are You Certain Of, Right Down To Your Bones, Without Proof?” And 40 Folks Delivered I'm quietly convinced I made a bestselling mystery novelist change the way he writes because I criticised him on Reddit. The novelist in question is Chris Carter; the books are the Robert Hunter series. (Yes, the guy who has built a career on looking for serial killers is named Hunter. He works for the LAPD's Ultra-Violent Crime Unit. It's not a series that's overburdened by subtlety, is what I'm saying.) They are as schlocky a bunch of thrillers as you could ever hope to find, but for some reason I can't get enough of them, despite the fact that they're... very much not great. They lean pretty damn heavy on ridiculous tropes, and I've never seen a more Mary Sue lead than I have in this series, but the biggest complaint I have with them is that the same line appears almost literally word for word in the first nine books ('Hunter’s biggest passion was single malt Scotch whiskey, but unlike most, he knew how to appreciate its flavor and quality instead of simply getting drunk on it.'). I made a comment about it on Reddit on an r/books thread about your favourite terrible authors. That post was made in January of 2019; in April, his book Hunting Evil came out, and the line was nowhere to be seen. I didn't think much of it until his new book, Written in Blood, came out a few days ago, and also didn't have the line in it. This comment is also one of the top answers if you google his name and the book series via Reddit -- exactly what you'd do if you were looking to see if people on the internet were talking about your books. I also can't find any evidence of anyone else pointing this out in a review or suchlike. So yeah... in short, three months after I made that comment, he broke the habit of a decade of writing and finally decided that after nine stories that used this as a crutch for Hunter's personality, it was too much. I know you're reading this, Chris. I know.

I truly believe that a review, even if it's not so good, if it's politely written can be really helpful if the person is willing to listen.... i almost always write reviews about restaurants for example and mention the good and bad without insulting and many times the owners thank me and reply that they will check it and get better! Be kind and you can make a difference!

In the USA they spell it whiskey, because of the Irish connection. So despite it being Scotch, which should of course be spelled whisky, if the book is American they are likely to use the spelling convention that originated in Ireland. If that makes sense.

We don't (and will never) know his name or the name of his village, whether he was admirable or villainous, kind or cruel, generous or stingy. And we will never know anything about the people he lived with either. Millions have lived and died over the millennia and left no trace. That's not sad, it's just life.

Pish posh. The majority of the highly intellectual, learned people throughout history have also claimed faith to one religion or another. And loyalty is considered a virtue in nearly every society. Now, misplaced loyalty will bite you in the a**. But faith and loyalty, in general, are not the problem. The problem is that our schools teach children to memorize and regurgitate information, don't question, and don't think for yourself. So when the chosen target of your faith teaches you claptrap and lies, you are not discerning enough to know the difference.

Retired Art teacher here. Creativity taught after they are taught basic techniques. They learn how to first then they learn how to put those basic ideas together to come up with new ways of doing things. There are those that can only repeat what they learned, those that can get creative with it across media and subject matter, and those that don't need the basics but can come up with their own way of doing things from scratch. The latter group is the least. On top of that developing their individual artistic style is paramount. We are not teaching basic creative learning skills in regular curriculum. Art only meets 30 minutes to an hour a week for approximately 40-65 lessons a year depending on how many times their class is redirected to something else (fire drills, etc). We can do better. Especially since we are turning out the future Architects, Engineers, and Computer graphics people of the world. Not to mention over 4000 other professions. That is my soapbox speech for the day.

I'm convinced of this to. There's been way too many occasions now where I've just been talking about something random (or even something has come on the TV in the background) and all of sudden I'm getting ads about it for it to be a coincidence. I know manufacturers swear blind this doesn't happen and I've followed all the advice about changing the settings on my phone. That doesn't explain how just the other week a friend and I were casually chatting and joked that we wished we'd bought bitcoin back in the day when it was cheap. Next thing, BAM, every website I'm going on has ads for crypto trading platforms (something I've never searched for, just literally mentioned whilst talking).

I read something just the other day that explained that no, our phones aren't actually listening to us, but companies have access to a crap-ton of data about us and the people around us. Like, they know your location and call history, obviously, but they also know your online activity and the online activity of other people you're regularly in close vicinity with and they cross-reference all that data to make targeted ads. I wish I could remember where I read that... they explained it much better than I just did.

Someone Asked “What Are You Certain Of, Right Down To Your Bones, Without Proof?” And 40 Folks Delivered Back when I was 10 there was a competition for schoolkids to write a treatment for an episode of Doctor Who, with the best one being developed into an full episode in the next series and the winner receiving a writing credit. I was a huge fan of DW at the time and the competition was actually run through schools, so my teacher made the entire class do it, but I was very excited. I began writing a story about the Doctor landing on a planet full of defective cybermen, who's programming had gone a wry and had been left on this asylum planet to rot. The Doctor lands there in response to a mysterious distress call from a woman and attempts to find and save her while avoiding the dangerous dysfunctional cybermen and the looming threat of planetary destruction at the hands of the normal cybermen. I finished my short treatment and gave it to my teacher to submit. Unfortunately it turned out the competition was very strict about the formatting of submissions and mine was returned because I had used the wrong formatting in some way, it seemed like a weird reason. I was a bit disappointed and that was the end of that. But then, a year or two later, there was an episode of DW called Asylum of the Daleks, which seemed incredibly similar to my story except with Daleks. So incredibly, eerily, similar in fact, that to this day I am absolutely convinced that Steven Moffat saw my script and came up with a formatting excuse so that he could remove me from the competition, steal my story, change the bad guys and claim it as his own. I have zero evidence, I don't even still have the treatment I wrote, or any letter from the BBC about my submission, and yet I know in my bones that Steven Moffat stole his script from 10 yr old me.

Yes, people always assume that aliens will be humanoid creatures that either look similar to humans or do human-like things, or even both. We assume that aliens could only live on planets that are like Earth, that's in the Goldilocks zone with water, plants, and other Earthly things, which is why NASA is trying to explore Mars lol. But what if aliens don't need to drink water, or can live in incredibly cold environments, colder than humans can even imagine? What if their body structures were completely different from that of a human? What if aliens were like humungous pink snails with 20-30 eyestalks and no bones? What if aliens were like jellyfish, with no brain and no heart, yet they still live, some even being immortal?

That is easy to prove. There are way weirder lifeforms in the deep oceans than any science fiction author could dream up ...and that is just on our own planet! Since it can get that weird in our own "home", a planet that has a totally different composistion must certainly give rise to something that is even more different than the lifeforms we allready know. Nature is way more creative than even the best designers, and often find the most unimaginable sulotions to problems when given enough time.

I mean, I only have a medical degree and talk to a lot of other people with medical degrees, but the point of contention seems to be the broken hyoid bone. Well, you CAN break a lot of tiny bones in a hanging ---- it's essentially strangulation from behind by a *rope*. His own weight did the job. Was his death convenient and the cameras turned off in a shady way? Absolutely yes. Did he commit suicide? I'll bet yes. The guards may have helped by turning off the cameras (to prevent footage from being released). If he was wanted dead by "mysterious powerful pedos" I doubt they'd do such a crappy job. He was scared for his life, so he ended it. Not a patsy, but a pimp, IMO.

Do you care that there are probably more dangerous paedophiles in positions of power today as a direct result of the fact that 'Epstein committed suicide'? Or that scores of underaged girls were sexually abused by those paedophiles who will now never be brought to justice? They had him killed to evade justice and that's why we care that Epstein didn't kill himself. No-one cares for Epstein. But instead we care that the rich paedos escaped without charge and most importantly, we care for the victims.

Someone Asked “What Are You Certain Of, Right Down To Your Bones, Without Proof?” And 40 Folks Delivered That the entire U.S. mattress industry is a front for criminal organizations. Virtually every city has more mattress stores than it needs. When was the last time you bought a mattress? So then why does a city of 80,000 have like 7 separate mattress retail places within like six blocks?

So, imagine that people buy a new mattress every 20 years or so; that would mean in a town of 80,000, approximately 4,000 mattresses a year are sold. Divided across 7 mattress retailers, that would be about 1.5 mattresses sales a day per location (if they were open 365 days a year). Given that a typical mattress is around $1K (at least where I am) that means they are bringing in revenue of somewhere in the range of $45K revenue a month per store. Depending on the rent for the showrooms and the base costs of mattresses, that is enough to support a business that doesn't have a large number of employees. Note, all of this was based on educated guesses on my part, but it does seem at least plausible that they could be in operation and making a reasonable profit absent mob support.

I have also worked in many office type environments where I get paid for showing up, and where I have seen people be half as productive as I am now working for myself, but getting paid twice as much just because of the hours they are physically present.

If my phone has negatively affected me it’s because I have access to learn about all the shitty things in my country that I have no power to change, not “boo hoo someone disliked my selfie”. There are things that societies can do to promote mental health; we're doing the opposite. That was in 2006. It doesn't seem incorrect to me.

Nope, no evidence of any life on Mars, but still, given the size and age of the universe, only a compete idiot would claim to know for a fact that ET isn't out there. Of course, that doesn't mean he's visiting us. No evidence for that either.

You don't. However if you have dinner at a friend's place that does not eat rice often (some countries don't) or is not a frequent chef, then you better hope they use cups/ml/whatever and a timer.

It is true. Show up late or early and you affect everyone and everything else. The end-of-day outcome may have been entirely different otherwise. That is just an exclusive bubble. If you were late because you broke down and now you need a ride to work and a ride home, that can have extensive effects. If you call out sick and they call someone in to cover for you and that person gets killed in a car accident driving to work to cover your shift, how is that NOT a butterfly effect?

I often wonder how my life will have turned out if I made different decisions in the past. My family emigrated to Australia in the early 1970's from the UK. We came back to the UK in 1978 after I was born. I often wonder how different my life might have been if my parents hadn't come back to the UK. My sister returned to Australia in 2000 for a holiday. She brought back some of the rock from the area where I was born and I cried. I feel such an affinity for Australia that I don't feel here in the UK.

In Islam, we believe all souls are eternal, including animals and contrary to believe, animals are highly regarded. There is a Hadith that the Prophet Mohamed pbuh was at war and saw a dog with her puppies, and he stationed a soldier to protect her. Another was a woman(prostitute) who saw a dog pacing around a well, she climbed in and retrieved the water with her shoes, it is said, her sins were forgiven. (Please don't attack me for mentioning Islam, I just wanted to give pet owners, some "hope")

Dejavu is a situation that is similar to something you actually has experience before (perhaps seen in a tv show, picked up on on a commercial billboard etc.). However that memory is so eroded, that your brain cannot make the proper connections to recall exactly what happened and more important when it happend. There is some kind of link in there to something -enough to give you a feeling of having seen it before, but not a stong enough connection for you to explain it.

Those must be the "delivery" guys. When your loved ones passes away at home, they are the ones who come and collect the body. "Private ambulance" cars are the ones, usually small refrigerated vans. Tough job, those guys see a lot of s**t, they deserve their cigarette and end of the shift beers...

Someone Asked “What Are You Certain Of, Right Down To Your Bones, Without Proof?” And 40 Folks Delivered I watched flight 93 go down. I would never share that in real life because it’s f****n grim and no one would believe you (the geography of the reports are off ). I saw it clear as day from Kent state’s main campus (Ohio). I didn’t know what I was seeing other than I remember thinking “that plane is way way too low (we had a aviation college so planes were common) and too big and it’s jerking around like how a toddler drives a power wheels truck....”. Continued on to class. You don’t wanna be late even at a liberal college.

I'm not sure what you saw, but you didn't see a plane that crashed around 200 miles away from you. There were enough ordinary people who WERE in that part of Pennsylvania that DID see it crash and then there were all the reporters who went out to that place, who are not part of a conspiracy to pretend that the plane crashed around Canton, Ohio just because. Like you said, you're next to an aviation college. That would be the most likely explanation for it.

Given that I know someone who was called to the scene of the crash in Pennsylvania ----- to recover remains (read: personal effects that could be identified) ------ no. Not. Not even close. Radar data shows this event clearly, and it didn't go down near Ohio. You live near an aviation school, you get used to nutty flying, FYI. Military dad. They rpactice crazy AF maneuvers that, from the ground, look like insanity, but are part of their training. SMH.

I call BS. Kent State is almost 190 miles from the Flight 93 memorial, and "the geography of the reports are off"??? It was a very public event; the location of the crash is well known. Yes, the flight path took in within visual range of Kent State, but it would not have been possible to "watch Flight 93 go down" from there.

They never said they watched it happen. They said they watched the plane being too low and jerkily moving around. And referencing one of the comments in the link, around the time the hijackers were taking over the plane lost a lot of altitude and was moving wonkily for a while until it was gotten under control.

There's many reasons no one will believe you. Not even conspiracy theorists. It was not that low over Kent. Yes, it was not far from Akron, but not erratic at that time. I would have been likely to see it if it was, but just as a jet in the sky as usual being between CLE and AKR. But my eyes were glued on the tv and twin towers before we knew 93 was in danger. And remember, that plane didn't stall, they drove it the ground when the passengers started fighting back when they learned what was happening. That was after they passed Pittsburgh area.

Since every plane in the sky was being grounded, it is not surprising that you saw planes flying lower than normal making landing approaches.

Looking at the flight trajectory, it could have very well been observed from Kent State. However, at that point, it was not flying in the manner you describe.

That must be a horrible thing to remember. Well, at least you know they did their best and didn't got out without a fight. It's over now and a loss was averted the other day from what was learned after flight 93 went down, to keep the cockpit door locked so it can't be breached so some good came out of it. We can only move forward now.

McDonald's actually has an agreement with Coca-Cola wherein they receive their syrup in stainless steel containers instead of plastic like every other restaurant does. McDonald's also uses a larger width of straw than most fast food places, so the bubbles bust on your tongue and disburse the flavor differently.

It is different, and not in a good way. But maybe it varies across franchises? I had a coke zero at maccas in London Victoria that was so vile I couldn't drink any coke zero for a year, and it still tastes that bad there. A branch in Leicester Square has diet coke sweeter than its regular coke.

I have weird indirect connections (but still too close for my liking) to two notorious Canadian serial killers, my ex brother in law sold cement mix to Paul Bernardo (he worked at a hardware store at the time and was questioned by police to confirm it was actually him that bought it) and my Aunt was invited to 'dance' for a party at Robert Picktons farm (lucky she found him creepy and turned down the offer or she likely would have been one of his victims fed to his pigs)

Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is a spectrum. Serial killers all fall into either the Psychopath or sociopath category of that spectrum. These 2 groups make up around 1-4% of the population. Of that 1-4%, around 70% of those will commit a violent act. Of that 70, 80% will commit violence to another person as the 'aggressor' or 'instigator'. Around 20-30% of that 80 will habitually be aggressive and or abusive personalities, out of that 20-30 only 50% are likely to commit homicide.

I was born in the same hospital that serial killer nurse Genene Jones worked at before transferring over to join a pediatrician's private practice, and at the same time Jones worked there. Genene worked in the neonatal unit, but thankfully since I was delivered on time and without complications I probably spent little time there. Had I been born with complications I might have been under Genene Jones's care and then I might not be alive at all today (since she started her murder spree at that hospital).
