Chris Pratt and Chris Evans had a bet over each's hometown Superbowl match. The losing team/Chris would dress as his character to visit the other's children's hospital. They both decided to visit so the kids were the winners!

Most intresting trivia is when he drop the ball in the beginning of the film which was obviously unscripted, but he didn't break character, and the shot made it to the final version of the movie.

just learned today that Chris Pratt was once a homeless stoner, beach bum living in Hawaii, got a job & told his then boss he'd one day make it in "Hollywood as a famous actor making shitloads of money." Glad he did then, since he's paying back his dues to others.

My favorite piece of trivia is when Chris Pratt (aka Star Lord) hands the orb over to the Collector, he actually dropped it. It was not scripted. They liked it so much they kept and used that scene.

Stephen Hawking held a party once. He hired a room, put up balloons and a laid out a lovely table of food. He also had a banner made especially for the guests. It read "Welcome Time Travellers"! He waited alone for many hours and then left. He advertised the party a few months later. He was just so wonderful....

absolutely. And yes, his specific voice was under his own copyright so that it felt more like a vocal natural voice. And I can totally see him insisting they use it so that the voice was accurate to him in this biopic.

    The Godfather

Scene from The Godfather movie showing a man in a tuxedo holding a cat, related to fun facts about movies.

The cat held by Marlon Brando in the opening scene was a stray that Coppola found while on the lot at Paramount, and was not originally called for in the script. So content was the cat that its purring muffled some of Brando's dialogue, and, as a result, most of his lines had to be looped.

Kung Fu choreographer Woo-Ping Yuen initially refused to work on the film, and hoped that by asking for an exorbitant fee, it would turn off the Wachowskis. It didn't. From Wikipedia: Winston Groom was paid $350,000 for the screenplay rights to his novel Forrest Gump and was contracted for a 3 percent share of the film's net profits. However, Paramount and the film's producers did not pay him, using Hollywood accounting to posit that the blockbuster film lost money. Tom Hanks, by contrast, contracted for a percent share of the film's gross receipts instead of a salary, and he and director Zemeckis each received $40 million. Additionally, Groom was not mentioned once in any of the film's six Oscar-winner speeches.

It means that instead of getting paid with a certain paycheck, he agreed on getting paid with a certain percentage of amount of money that the movie makes. If it's a bad movie, it won't make much, so you might get less than you would with a paycheck. If it makes a lot, then your percentage on the movie would make you a lot more than you would with the paycheck. It's risky, but when it's an actor as talented as Tom Hanks, it's worth the risk.

When Was the First Movie Ever Made?

There’s some debate around this. The honor of being the first-ever movie is usually given to Roundhay Garden Scene, a 2.11-second clip shot in Leeds, UK, in 1888. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene of a family walking in a garden.

However, before this, in 1878, photographer Eadweard Muybridge took multiple photographs of a galloping horse and projected them as a motion picture using a ‘zoopraxiscope,’ a very early version of a film projector. His famous clip is called Horse in Motion.

Here’s another interesting movie fact: the very first feature-length film was The Story of the Kelly Gang released in Australia in 1908. The multi-reel movie was 70–80 minutes long and became a starting point for narrative movies.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

Young girl from The Chronicles Of Narnia movie peeks from behind a snowy lamppost in a winter forest scene.

Georgie Henley's reaction to Mr. Tumnus at the lamppost is genuine. She had not seen her castmate James McAvoy in his costume before the scene was filmed, so her screams and reaction were real. Georgie's first reaction to the snowy world of Narnia is also genuine. She was carried into the set blindfolded to make her first entrance, and her wide-eyed, delighted reactions to it, all are entirely her own.

I never understood the appeal of that book. Got it for Christmas one year and hated it. Always have, always will. It was so dry, so lacking in human warmth, very depressing. My sister got A Wrinkle in Time that year. And I loved that one. Nobody wrote about true human warmth (not sappy) and the possibility of actual joy, love, and caring better than Madeleine L'engle.

What Was the First Color Movie?

While The Wizard of Oz (1939) is believed to be the first-ever color movie, it doesn’t even come close!

The first-ever color clip is A Visit to the Seaside from 1908. The 8-second clip was filmed using green and red filters. The results weren’t perfect, though, as all the colors couldn’t be captured. However, it was considered a huge achievement for movie-making for its time.

When they were shooting the scenes of the Fellowship crossing the snowy mountains, he'd spend two hours every morning, climbing from the base of the mountain, to the set near the top, already dressed as Boromir. The crew being flown up, could see him from their helicopters.

Why would he eat raw meat? People don't typically eat raw meat. There is solid evidence that the humanoid species we evolved from used fire. It may be that their use of fire to cook day old food was actually what helped allow us to evolve. We could then store meat, cook scavenged meat, which allowed for better planning, preparation, and living through lean times. All hunter-gatherer societies that we know about, anywhere in the world, always used fire, and it required the tiniest of technology. (When moving camp, they take some coals, wrap it in leaves, then when they get to the new camp, they use that to light up the campfire.)

My husband didn’t believe when I told him this a couple years ago until I looked it up online for him. Then last year we were at the Bronx Zoo and two turtles were going at it. Yep. Sounds just like it. It was a cold winter day so not a lot of people around so we filmed those two for a half hour, laughing our butts off, and staying warm inside! They were still going at it when we finally left.

It's sick that a man of such genius and who used it for the benefit of mankind and in turn help save the lives of so many people should be ridiculed and treated so badly because he was gay. Thankfully that wouldn't happen today and gays have the same rights as everyone else in everything they want to do. They are just the same as straight people and should be treated as such.

    The Shawshank Redemption

Prisoner standing next to a black crow in a dimly lit room, scene from the movie Shawshank Redemption.

When Andy goes to the library to begin work as Brooks' assistant and Brooks' crow, Jake, is squawking, Tim Robbins had to time his line, "Hey, Jake. Where's Brooks?" so that the crow wouldn't squawk over him, since the bird could not be trained to squawk on cue. Robbins was able to adapt to this and time his line perfectly by learning the bird's squawking patterns, for which Writer and Director Frank Darabont praised him. Robbins' improvisation is noticeable, as he watches the bird carefully while approaching it, waiting for it to squawk, and doesn't begin his line until after it does so.

Scene from The Martian movie showing an astronaut in a detailed space suit walking on a rocky Mars surface.

Matt Damon admitted that the scene where Mark was getting emotional upon hearing Commander Lewis' voice was genuine. The other actors had wrapped and gone home, and their pre-recorded voices were actually being played to Damon from inside his spacesuit. When Damon began to think about how his character had been all alone on Mars for two years, alongside how he was only hearing pre-recorded voices of his co-stars who had already finished their scenes, he began to tear up. Ridley Scott was so impressed with Damon's performance, that he only did one take of the scene, which was used in the film.

The crew wasn't even prepared for the collision much less be prepared, preserve the evidence and have it survive the accident is Ludacris at best. Same with the sinking. Who the hell had a stop watch measuring the exact time from collision to total sinkage? All guess work on unavailable data.

    Into The Woods

Witch character from Into the Woods movie scene, with wild gray hair and claw-like fingers on a tree branch.

At a Q&A session after screening of the film, James Corden recalled an incident during rehearsals in which Meryl Streep jumped on a table and her foot got caught in her costume. She started falling backwards, head first, toward a concrete floor. Both Corden and director Rob Marshall froze in the fear that they were about to witness the death of Meryl Streep. However, a pregnant Emily Blunt stepped in and caught Streep before she hit the floor.

Maleficent in dark costume holding staff, with detailed horns and intense expression in a movie scene.

Angelina Jolie admitted that she scared little kids while in costume on the set of Maleficent, with one kid actually saying, "Mommy, please get the mean witch to stop talking to me." She adds that her daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who played young Aurora, was the only child who was not scared of her.

    The Theory Of Everything

Scene from The Theory Of Everything movie showing a young couple spinning joyfully outdoors, highlighting fun facts about movies.

Eddie Redmayne met with Stephen Hawking only once before filming. "In the three hours I spent with him, he said maybe eight sentences," recalls Redmayne. "I just didn't feel like I could ask him intimate things." Therefore, he found other ways to prepare for the role. He lost about 15 pounds and trained for four months with a dancer to learn how to control his body. He met with 40 ALS patients, kept a chart tracking the order in which Hawking's muscles declined, and stood in front of a mirror for hours on end, contorting his face. Lastly, he remained motionless and hunched over between takes, so much so that an osteopath told him he had altered the alignment of his spine. "I fear I'm a bit of a control freak," Redmayne admits. "I was obsessive. I'm not sure it was healthy."

    The Devil Wears Prada

Scene from The Devil Wears Prada movie featuring a stylish woman selecting clothes from a fashion rack.

On the first day of filming, Meryl Streep told Anne Hathaway, "I think you're perfect for the role. I'm so happy we're going to be working together." Then she paused and followed it up with, "That's the last nice thing I'll say to you." And it was.

Many fashion designers allowed their clothes and accessories to be used in the film, making it the most expensively-costumed film in history. Meryl Streep donated her wardrobe to a charity auction.

It's what we introverts would like to think, but people in general actually need other people more than they think. We're fine for a long time without much physical contact, or even talking directly to others, but remember that we're constantly reading things written by other human beings and seeing them around in the streets even if we don't interact. We also have a lot more to do than we would in a deserted island, and have a feeling of security and familiarity with our surroundings that makes it much easier to be alone.

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan did a body transformation for his film Dangal to play the same character from his 20s to about 60. The director wanted him to be fit/young first and then fatten up but he felt if they went that route he wouldn't have the motivation to lose the weight so they shot his older scenes first and then he trained/dieted like a madman for five months. Arnold Schwarzenegger worked with guns every day for a month to prepare for the role. The first two weeks of filming he practiced weapons stripping and reassembly blindfolded until the motions were automatic, like a machine. He spent hours at the shooting range and practicing with different weapons without blinking or looking at them when reloading or cocking. He also had to be ambidextrous.

The bees were bred specifically for this movie. They needed to make sure that the bees were only twelve hours old, so that they looked like mature bees, but their stinger wouldn't be powerful enough to do any real damage.

Never seen the film. How snooty of him. Can't spare a few hours of your life to review your own work in context and be able to converse about it with your fans? That's not an oversight, is it? It's "I'm too highbrow for this". Not above getting paid for it, though.

That's not it all. A lot of actors don't watch their own films after it's done because it's just awkward for them. Also lots of people do their jobs just to get paid. It's nothing snooty about it.

    Kingsman: The Secret Service

Underwater action scene from Kingsman movie showing characters in a confined space with intense expressions and movements.

In the film and trailer, when the new Kingsman recruits have their first night's sleep interrupted by a deluge of water pouring into the dorm, on-set the scene went horrifically wrong. As Matthew Vaughn recalls "I shouted 'action!', the computer got it wrong and vrrrrssshh, everyone was twenty feet down underwater. Cameras, sound guys... Guys were in waders full of water, panic, everyone diving in and pulling people out." The set, painstakingly planned and rehearsed using height markers and computer-programmed water tanks, washed away in a near-biblical flood when said computers went rogue. "Those actors weren't acting, they were absolutely terrified," shudders Vaughn. "It was awful for the first day of filming."

This was filmed in my city, Wellington, and accuratley reflects life here. The bar the vampires get into easily, The Big Kumera, was a notorious student bar, known for cheap drinks and bouncers with low standards.

    The Social Network

Scene from The Social Network movie featuring a young man at a party, highlighting fun facts about movies.

During one of the depositions, it is mentioned that the invention of Facebook made Mark Zuckerberg "the biggest thing on a campus that included nineteen Nobel Laureates, fifteen Pulitzer Prize winners, two future Olympians, and a movie star." One of the lawyers then asks, "Who was the movie star?" and the response is, "Does it matter?" This movie star was, in fact, Natalie Portman, who was enrolled at Harvard from 1999 to 2003 and helped screenwriter Aaron Sorkin by providing him insider information about goings-on at Harvard at the time Facebook first appeared there.

Scene from The Social Network movie featuring characters in dramatic lighting, related to fun facts about movies.

The doll in the Phantom's lair that is supposed to resemble Emmy Rossum is not actually a wax mold. It is Emmy Rossum. The production produced a mask of her face to use on the mannequin but when they put in the fake eyes it didn't look like her. She suggested to stand in as the mannequin instead. This was done by her being made up like a doll with waxy makeup on, and her standing very, very still.

LOL. Personally I despised Dances with Wolves. It was insulting, inaccurate, boring, and didn't even make sense. (Why would the white woman who grew up with the native Americans not dress, do her hair, and act like the rest of her community? She had lived with them since she was a small child. Even those small details alone made it seem like a really low-quality film that wasn't thought out very well.)

<3 Avatar. Yes, I know the story is as old as time but so what? It's still a nice, if somewhat predictable, story, and I love fairy tales. The visual effects were imo absolutely stunning, I've literally watched it 3 times in the cinemas just to enjoy the colourful beauty of it on the big screen. Part of it probably goes to the fact that I'm absolutely mesmerized by bird-like flying and it has quite a bit of that and it's done exceptionally well.

He was wrong by making the largest grossing movie of all time. Haha. Good one. It was a bad movie in your opinion and I've heard many complaints but a huge amount loved it, so it sounds a bit arrogant to say he was wrong. Most of the complaints were about the story being unoriginal, when really the notion of anything being original even when they appear to be is a ridiculous assumption.

So if you want to do away with all this auditioning bollocks, I'll fucking fight those other two dudes. I know who they are. You can bring them both in here. I'll fight them both. Now You See Me

Woman performing an underwater escape illusion in Now You See Me movie, surrounded by an amazed crowd of onlookers.

Isla Fisher got into difficulty while filming the piranha tank scene. The top of the tank remained opened so that Fisher would be able to swim to the top to get some air, and there was also an emergency lever inside the tank that, if pulled, would alert the crew that she needed help. During one take, Fisher was running out of air, and tried to swim to the top, but the chains on the handcuffs she was wearing got stuck on the bottom of the tank, so she was unable to swim to the top, or pull the lever. She then attempted to alert the crew by hitting the glass of the tank, but since her character is supposed to be panicked and scared in the scene, the crew thought she was acting. She was stuck for three minutes, before the Stunt Coordinator finally realized that something was wrong, after he noticed that her handcuffs were stuck.

DEFINITELY truer to the book, and MUCH more child friendly! Hell, the freak out boat scene from Wilder's version still creeps me out.

That doesn't so bad. I mean just imagine - you're working on a multi-million movie, millions spend on the decorations, hundreds of hours spent rehearsing, a million things inevitably going wrong and then when you FINALLY get the scene just right some Na'vi's cellphone rings and they jerk in that direction by reflex to answer it and bam - the whole scene is now ruined. There is a scene where the Duke rips the necklace off of her neck whilst he's beating her. I'm curious to know if in that shot, it was replaced by a replica, because it gets ripped and broken and chucked on the floor. That doesn't seem like a great thing to do with something that you just spent a million dollars on. At least they made it and didn't damage someone's personal jewellery which would have had sentimental value.

Given the unusual style of filming long takes, Edward Norton and Michael Keaton kept a running tally of flubs made by the actors and actresses. Emma Stone made the most mistakes. Zach Galifianakis made the fewest. He actually did mess up a few lines during the filming, but played his mistakes off well enough, that the shots were included in the film.

Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles

Behind the scenes of Interview With The Vampire movie with makeup artists applying details on the vampire actor’s face.

All the actors playing vampires were required to hang upside down for up to thirty minutes at a time during the make-up application. This would force all the blood in their bodies to rush to their heads, causing the blood vessels in their faces to bulge out. The make up artists would then trace over the swollen veins creating the eerie translucent-skinned vampire look. Unfortunately for the actors, they would have to repeat the process several times over, as the blood would quickly drain from their heads. This, in part, accounts for the lengthy make-up process.

Production of the film had to be shut down for four days, due to Ben Affleck's refusal to follow David Fincher's vision, and wear a New York Yankees cap for a scene where Affleck's character, Nick, is at an airport. The Bostonian actor said to Fincher, "David, I love you, I would do anything for you. But I will not wear a Yankees hat." Eventually, the two settled for Ben's character to wear a Mets cap. I disagree agree with this statement. As a Physician, the chances of a cardiac needle being inserted into a heart would cause massive bruising and cardiac arthymia. And render the patient severally incapacitated for a substantial amount of time.

After first completing the arduous 600-foot climb on Ireland's Skellig Michael island, Mark Hamill had hoped that he could avoid having to repeat the trek for additional scenes if he could somehow remain on the summit overnight, thus forfeiting the luxury of room service at his hotel. He suggested sleeping in a tent and 'staying in character.' However, after some inquiries were made with the Irish authorities, he was told by producer Kathleen Kennedy that he was not permitted to pitch a tent because the location is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It's a fairly substantial difference.... it's going from admitting you don't know enough about the situation to really understand it, then going through a s**t load of research and learning theoretical physics to come out the other side and state clearly that there is no higher level, only science. I think that's a fairly clear distinction. Its the exact same change as going from not knowing, to completely believing in God and Heaven. So yes it's a big thing. Educate yourself.

I'm shocked (if) it even got to -40 actually. St Petersburg area really isn't that cold really, due to the sea proximity it usully has milder winters than Moscow, and I've only ever seen -40 in Moscow once during my 26 years of lifetime. Also wolves and bears "outside of St. Petersburg"? This kind of sounds more like a movie legend than a real happening tbh. There're really few bears left in the central regions of the country and legit running into one out of the blue would be akin to a miracle.

How can you determine a potential time period to treat an infection. Especially bacterial. Would/should never take inpatient, three week period of antibiotics to fight any level of infection. Especially if the medication is Administered by IV infusion.

    Boyhood

Split face of a boy showing youth and adulthood from Boyhood movie scene, related to fun facts about movies.

Richard Linklater cast his daughter Lorelei Linklater as Samantha because she was always singing and dancing around the house and wanted to be in his movies. At about the third or fourth year of filming, she lost interest and asked for her character to be killed off. Linklater refused, saying it was too violent for what he was planning (Lorelei eventually regained her enthusiasm and continued with the project).

This movie is about nothing. Literally the most boring and meaningless movie ever created. You could just as well stare out of your window for 3 hours and probably see much more interesting things during this time.

It was filmed using the same cast over 12 years, which is why it garnered a lot of attention. Not sure the final product was worth the trouble, but there ya go.

It was horrible. When I first saw it I thought that Arquette was the absolute worst actress ever. And she won the Oscar for her acting in it. Blech.

    Ex Machina

Scene from Ex Machina movie showing a female robot interacting with faces on a wall for 118 fun facts about movies.

Throughout the film, the colors red, blue, and green are prominently displayed in each scene (the green forest, the red brick hallway, the keypad's red and blue functions, etc.) This is a nod to the RGB color model, which is used to display images in electronic systems, such as computers. Ava, of course, being the main computer in the film.

How to avoid them? Film in greyscale?! In other news, CGI was heavily employed, in "a nod" to computers. Such as Ava. Come on.

This movie is boring as hell and a complete rip off of the British movie 'The Machine' which was made in 2013. It stars Caity Lotz & Toby Stephens among others. 'The Machine' is a cult classic and a great movie.

Germany has strict laws against displaying the swastika, though artistic displays are specifically exempt. Filmmakers usually use incorrect swastikas to avoid causing public outrage. The producer wanted swastikas for authenticity, so the crew posted warnings around the filming locations. Still, a local resident filed an official complaint with the city, who pressed charges against the owners of some filming sites.

During the Cannes Film Festival press conference for the film, Lars von Trier responded to a question about the use of Wagner's music, by calling himself a Nazi, and saying that he sympathized with Hitler. Despite apologizing for his remarks, he was banned from the remainder of the festival, and declared a persona non grata by festival organizers, a first in the history of the festival.

In addition to abundant additional atrocities, the Nazis were really big on suppression of thought, speech and action; in fact that is how they began. Can't people see they are doing EXACTLY the same thing? To fight the evil that the Nazi's exemplified, should one actually act like a Nazi? You can say anything you like, as long as no one is offended by it? Offense lies in the offended, not in the offender. Sometimes you really just have to buck up. We'd better be careful, as it is events such as this that will make full suppression of personal expression a requirement in our NEW WORLD ORDER, and we will find that we have become Nazis ourselves. If you need a modern day example, just look at Israel, and their egregious treatment of the Palestinians, as well as their atrocious ADL laws against mentioning it. In fact, I could get into serious trouble right now just for having said that. Welcome one and all to the prison of your new life. Maybe I should be banned from Bored Panda now.

    Mother!

Scene from Mother movie showing a tense moment between two characters in a dramatic movie scene.

Jennifer Lawrence got so much into her character that during the climactic scenes, she started hyperventilating and even cracked a rib. After filming the scene in which Jennifer Lawrence hyperventilated (and production was put on hold while she was placed on oxygen), members of the crew came up with the idea to make Lawrence her very own "happy place"--a tent complete with gumballs and clips of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" that play on a constant loop.
