Gaming is the sort of hobby one spoke about in hushed tones to avoid being tossed into a locker two decades ago, but has now grown to be one of the most popular activities out there. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that there are memes aplenty just for the gamers out there.
The laconically named “Gaming Memes” Facebook page is dedicated to just that, hilarious and relatable posts about video games. So get comfortable as you scroll through during a loading screen, upvote your favorites and be sure to share your own thoughts and experiences in the comments down below.

We did have to blow a little air into a cartridge now and then, but that was no big deal.
"People have to be comfortable with not owning their games anymore" - CEO that doesn't has a company anymore
And now, ironically, you can play rereleases with subscriptions and needing to update to get more
I tried replaying Fallout Online but both shelters refused to save after I built the overseers office.
Load More Replies...My initial computing experience was in the early 70s over shaky copper telephone lines to a flaky server on the other side of the state, so I learned to hit save like a rat working eagerly working on his next pellet. I eventually got it down to saving every time I did something I didn't want to repeat.
Woohoo! A sharpened spoon! Much better than that crooked stick! "Equip" Yes! +10 weapon damage.
Load More Replies...I hate the "picking up boots" phase of a new character.
Load More Replies...Step 1: Create character Step 2: Look at store to see what armour set you want and realize you can't afford it. Step 3: Steal everything that's not nailed down..
If you have ever found yourself staring at a screen at 3:00 AM, fueled by nothing but spite and a lukewarm energy drink, you have likely participated in the grand, pixelated tradition of gamer memes. These digital inside jokes are more than just funny pictures of frustrated cats or "Press F to Pay Respects" moments, they are the connective tissue of a global community that speaks a language composed entirely of shared failure and improbable triumphs.
From the "lag" excuse that we all use to cover up our own terrible aim to the "gamer lean" that occurs when a boss fight enters its final phase, memes have become a vital tool for navigating the social architecture of the internet. According to research on the evolution of internet memes, these artifacts function as cultural shorthand, allowing us to communicate complex emotions, like the specific agony of a blue shell in Mario Kart, faster than any spoken word could ever hope to achieve.
Ah yes, the famous plant in Bethesda's office... though, seriously, clipping bugs appear in pretty much every studio's games.
I have a special level of disdain for a game that forces me to turn off clipping so I can exit the wall. Memory wryly suggests that they all rhymed with 'ethesda.'
Load More Replies...Perhaps the most iconic archetype in the gamer meme canon is the "Lag" defense. It is a universal law that if you lose a match, it wasn’t because your opponent was more skilled, but because your ping was briefly high enough to contact the Voyager spacecraft. While it sounds like a convenient lie, there is actually some fascinating science behind our perception of delay.
Side quests. Applies to real life if you have ADHD
The museum mod for Skyrim. Not all of us want to fight our way through EVERY game. Sometimes a good story, puzzles and building something beautiful is just as fun.
Doesn't matter how many times I play them, every Pokemon game turns into me obsessively collecting Eevees so I can have ALL THE EEVEELUTIONS.
Please tell that to Hinterland, who are the creators of The Long Dark, they put out the release date 4 times but had to cancel it every time, and then they announced they were making a new game, they finally released another release date and hopefully it actually comes out
A study on how humans perceive latency suggests that even a few milliseconds of lag can disrupt our brain's ability to sync visual input with physical motor responses. This means that when you scream that the game is "literally unplayable," you are technically making a valid neurological observation, even if everyone else in the lobby thinks you’re just salty. The meme exists because it validates a shared physiological frustration that exists at the intersection of human reflexes and fiber-optic cables.
Rather, as if that buggy and glitchy game would even work for at least a year. Game companies always try to entice pre-orders with some pointless "exclusive" digital junk.
There are some that still sell an exclusive questline, like Witcher 3 did.
Load More Replies...My younger brother laughs at me for being a gaming tourist... I play the easiest mode available. No shame. No regrets.
Civ AI cheats so badly I quit at Civ4, where yiu can cheat right back!
Load More Replies...As a women, I hate playing online, even if I am very good. Fistly, I don't want to play with a bunch of teenagers, and secondly, once they find out you are a woman it becomes just a bunch of derogatory comments, who wants that? No, I am not going to make you a sandwhich and just shut the f up.
Then there is the "Souls-like" obsession with suffering, encapsulated by the infamous "Git Gud" mantra. For the uninitiated, this might seem like toxic elitism, but for the community, it’s a celebration of the "flow state", that psychological sweet spot where a challenge is perfectly balanced with a player's skill.
I love this picture and use it a lot when I'm training new colleagues, or when they make their first few little mistakes :)
Always say "Blue Elf needs food badly!" "Wizard is about to die!"
Load More Replies...True. Easy mode is the "power fantasy" experience for when you need to relax and fix your mood after a stressful day. And you can always challenge yourself with Hard mode when you finally decide to.
I do that. Played witcher 3 at least 20 times, all add ons and allways in easiest possible mode because i enjoy the story and getting k****d by monsters is to much stress. Actually i could do without them 🤣
I played through 3 times, increasing the difficulty each time, and I support your playstyle! Don't let anybody tell you you aren't a "real gamer".
Load More Replies...For me, it all comes down to the gameplay and how intuitive it feels. I play some games on the highest difficulty level (Mass Effect, Witcher 3 come to mind), others on the easiest. Like Resident Evil (Horror games in particular) 😄
Yeah. I only use higher difficulty because I need to, like to unlock more courses in Mario Kart DS or Ness in Smash Bros 64
As I've gotten older, I'm a) worse at games generally and b) prone to suffering from hand and wrist cramps from spending too much of my life painting tiny figures, which makes some games incredibly painful to play. The inclusion of 'Easy' or 'Story' modes is a godsend to me for some genres of games (like character action games)
Psychologists have long studied the appeal of difficult video games, finding that the intense frustration of failing a thousand times actually makes the eventual victory significantly more dopamine-rich. Memes about dying to the same boss for six hours straight serve as a digital support group, they remind us that the struggle is the point. When we share a meme about a "tutorial boss" destroying our will to live, we aren’t just complaining, we’re signaling our membership in a tribe of masochists who find joy in the grind.
The subsciption on Switch that already gets paid for costs an additional 50$ a month to get n64 games? S***w you, I have emulators
I basically have to do something illegal to keep the games I bought years ago running on Windows 10 since the DRM isn't supported anymore
Mine's fairly unique, in as much as I've been recognized from other games.
The physical world of gaming also provides endless meme fodder, particularly the "serious gamer posture." You know the one: you’re reclining comfortably until the stakes get high, at which point you lean forward, elbows on knees, as if getting six inches closer to the monitor will somehow improve your character's stats. This "gamer lean" is so ubiquitous that it has become a visual cue for "it’s about to go down."
If I do end up with wings, I doubt I will hang out on clouds watching folks wank and whatnot lol
Load More Replies...The moment you understand that you will never own a home or retire in a meanigful way, you become truly free. Go. Buy that horse armor. Live.
I think something went wrong in a relationship if one partner needs permission to have fun with their hobby
My husband doesn't need my permission. I don't care if he plays. I have my hobbies, he has his. We are adults and can decide for ourselves how to spend our time.
Not always. Mr S bow and I game together every evening after work. His skills are far superior to mine, but with his tutelage I build powerful characters and we have great fun rampaging through enemies. We both look forward to it.
Load More Replies...This shift in posture is actually a fascinating example of how our bodies react to increased cognitive load. Research into posture and cognitive performance suggests that leaning forward can actually increase focus and reduce reaction times by aligning the body for a more alert, ready-for-action state. So, the next time you see a meme about someone sitting up straight when they lose a life, remember that they are literally optimizing their biological hardware for the comeback.
Doesn't even need to be "free". See: War Thunder and the Soviet BMPT.
One of my favourite videos of all time is the Skyrim Randy Savage dragon mod.
I orient forward off the line of dead bodies in my backtrail, and I use the presence of dead bodies in a room to keep track of where I've been.
As we used to say at work, when you're getting flak, you're over the target!
My son just plays open world games. Even if there are quests he just wanders around doing stupid shit. There is no finish. It really annoys me, I need a goal lol
My dream is a Pokemon game that never ends, where you can just keep on playing with little stupid side quests that never run out.
Load More Replies...Finally, we cannot ignore the "One More Turn" syndrome, which has kept civilization awake for decades. Whether it’s "one more match" in a shooter or "one more day" in a farming sim, this phenomenon is driven by the Zeigarnik Effect, a psychological quirk where our brains remember uncompleted tasks much better than completed ones.
I built a rig early last year and scored Gskill 32G 6000 for $200. That same pack is now $500. Now is not the time to be building a high end rig. Hell, I just sold some 32G of some old DDR4 ram from my old rig with the MB for $350.
These are LLMs. They can put any number of ram/cpu and they still will be dumb as a shoe. just faster.
Load More Replies...Every Resident Evil player knows that you have to keep onto those 40+ magnum bullets in case there is a post credit boss fight
Every bloody time. But still, what if I DID need those 95 Ultra Healing Potions for the final boss? Hmm? Better to be safe.
Ever played the original Star Fox?
Load More Replies...Games are masterfully designed to keep a "to-do list" constantly refreshing in your mind, leading to that 4:00 AM realization that you have forgotten how to be a functioning human. Memes about the sun rising while you’re still trying to organize your digital inventory aren't just jokes, they are honest reflections of how modern game design interacts with our primitive brain chemistry. We are all just monkeys with controllers, trying to satisfy a loop of digital rewards that our ancestors never had to worry about.
I always help respawn other players during the final boss fight, at great risk to myself. It's a little hit of dopamine if I manage it without getting splatted myself.
Load More Replies...I actually tried in GTA V. Using the traffic lights was harder than just running everyone over.
Load More Replies...I just play backgammon now. My life has been a quest in and of itself. I do remember grinding 18 hours a day for weeks to gain a level though lol
Load More Replies...It's always a good feeling when you really finished a game. I just finished FFX (for the 1.3947.828 time since 2001) and can now choose a new game from my pile of shame.
I still haven't finished that yet 😅 I have no good reason, because I remember really enjoying the bits I played. I think (well, knowing me, I assume) I got distracted by something else.
Load More Replies...Only four? Try telling that to my Steam playlist 😂 (Edit: 371 according to Steam. To be fair, some of those have been played/completed on different consoles, but I am very much a collector.)
I saw some article that said that something like 80% of the games purchased on Steam are never really played. I know I've got more than a few in there.
Load More Replies...For me it's "games I gave up on because I am absolutely abysmal at video games."
And of course they send one guy with a 9mm to go through all that instead of dispatching a platoon of marines + fire support after the very first report about the situation. "Nice El Gigante you have there, would be a shame if an AGM hits it..."
Let me phrase it this way: I would have had no trouble assembling the LEGO GameBoy set correctly...
I was in high school when the PS3 first came out. Great console but terrible hardware. That CPU was a nightmare to code on
I only got a PS3 because it was free with my 24 month broadband contract...
Many, many years of my life spent on just this! (I may be exaggerating...)
We’re going to have to shovel the driveway for the third time this weekend today, but at least it’s not this!
I'm still wearing sandals, We pay for it by living in a furnace the rest of the year, but January is perfect!
Load More Replies...Trade it in and get real RAM. Edit: Dear downvoter, you obviously have a ute/truck/whatever you call it to try and boost the size of your tiny manhood. Protip: It ain't working. If you're not a gamer, why the fuck are you in the gaming thread?
Whatever your feelings about this person taking away your imaginary internet points, is there any need to resort to cheap body-shaming jokes? I thought we'd moved past that by now.
Load More Replies...It's never been cheap, for sure, but the prices in the last couple of years are something else.
Load More Replies...Me too. There can be only one glorious savior of the world :)
Load More Replies...Why take them with you then? I'd go to the mall just for that booth.
I stopped playing warframe two years ago having 3100 hours.. So yea this 400 is puny ;)
Load More Replies...Meh. Much as they're extremely common these days, I happen to like both of those things..... If they're done well.
@Corvus either BP censors have gotten smarter and recognize your attempt to subvert them, or have gotten stupider and are giving false positives (again)
Steam sharing has given me more games than me and my children will play in a lifetime
And back when they had manuals? With actual interesting stuff, not just the controls?
I remember... and now I will quietly crumble into dust :D
Load More Replies...When I was in second grade, I would bring manuals of games I wanted to play during the weekend to read during reading time instead of an actual book. I specifically remember bringing Nintendogs and Animal Crossing: City Folk.
FFVII really was something else when it came out. It should have won a Nobel Prize.
The original FFVII was amazing. Can’t get into the woke remake, though.
Load More Replies...If it's more trouble than "turn it on and let it update when it wants" it's way too much trouble for me.
Load More Replies...Honest question, who needs more than 16 GB for just gaming anyways?
You're not really getting great performance under 32, imo.
Load More Replies...And inside you can find "The Half-Life 3" but you will need a crowbar.
Load More Replies...Gaming chairs are just (mostly) just good office chairs with a dlc skin on them. That said I love my Secretlabs chair, it's the most comfortable and supportive chair I've ever had. So I'm part of the problem.
Managed to get one as the guy HMV where people were queuing to get one suggested trying Toys R Us. He said they would have loads as no-one would think to go there. That was almost 20 years ago though. We still have it and it still works. Only had to replace one of the controllers.
Ahem, a PC can be used for thousands of other things than just gaming. Tell me how you can make an Excel spreadsheet or edit video on a console ;)
It's really not worth the price differential between a gaming PC and say a console plus a refurbished Lenovo laptop.
Load More Replies...Possible useage outweights the cost though - No extra charge for internet connection to the console network, easer user interaction, the possibility to mod games and software, less limit when it comes to shopping + PCs can be upgraded even over time. Consoles nowadays are basically PCs with restricted functions in comparison to older generations
Everything is expensive. It's only too expensive if you don't get enjoyment out of it.
Thanks to AI and data centers, computer parts have become very expensive. That will also mean that other electronic devices like phones will become more expensive. When I'm not playing on a PC, I write on a shockingly expensive typewriter.
But my PC can be used for a million other things, and is TAX DEDUCTIBLE 😎
Why? There are plenthora of low-cost gaming options. Just get cheap pc and play few years old games. You can get premium/definitive/goty editions without overpaying for DLCs, most of the bugs will be long fixed, you’ll find lots of mods and communities online, you’ll find reviews beforehand and it will cost few bucks. I never buy new AAA titles, have ~10 years old pc (which was mid-tier even when i bought it) and I just happily play the old games.
I have NEVER paid full price for any gaming console, computer or games (or mobile phone)... Saved me thousands over the years.
I still game on my Series X more than my PS5, but mostly because the majority of games have cross-saves with the pc versions so I can just continue where I left off either on console or PC. Microsoft really did fumble the ball and stamp on it, though.
Not even an original model 360, that's the later S model......... I'm so old.
The neat thing about different media is that the definition of "classic" changes easily. On games, it's 8 years. On movies, 20 years. On music, about every 30 years
You're really going to have 2 monitors, each showing the same thing? I don't think so....
You can even plug a USB to USB-C cable from the port on the front of the XBox to the controller.
Load More Replies...That was the last COD I played. After that, they lost me with all the extra, over the top stuff
If you're a fan of the COD campaigns, Black Ops Cold War is an excellent Cold War thriller, and Modern Warfare 2019 is a great deal of fun in its own right.
