People From The LGBTQ+ Community Laugh At “Homophobic Culture” By Sharing The Worst Posts They’ve Seen (50 Pics)
The members of LGBTQ+ have to deal with a lot of hate. Whether it's in real life or online, as a group, they're constantly under attack by spiteful people who question their very own existence. So in an attempt to create a safe space for venting, they started a subreddit called "Are the Straights OK?"
Even though the sub is relatively new — its birthday is October 2019 — it already has 329K subscribers, tackling difficult social issues like sexism and homophobia. Here are some of the most-upvoted posts from "Are the Straights OK?"

Breeding Culture Is Creepy As Hell
Look at your bodies, people! Mouth, stomach, & intestines. God created you for the magnificent job of eating food & ignoring all other body systems! What can be more important than this?!?!
Bored Panda contacted the moderators of r/AreTheStraightsOK and one of them was kind enough to answer a few questions about the subreddit and what goes on in it. "The most popular theme across this subreddit is the lack of self-awareness when it comes to certain couples and their toxic relationships," the mod said.
"It's like that one guy at work who comes in every day complaining about his wife and you constantly ask yourself 'Why are they even still married?!'"
The mod thinks the community of the subreddit is really great. "We have a bunch of genuine users who share a lot of personal moments as well as laughs and friendly jokes. We do get trolls, and they sometimes are subtle, but for the most part, we really like the community that posts here," they explained.

YES! we need to stop assigning a gender to things and actions, its pointless and harmful
Well, I hope you only speak English. Most European languages assign gender to absolutely every noun and most past particles.
Load More Replies...I'm thinking the same. It could be a no right/wrong question that is meant for discussing gender issues. It does say share ideas with the class.
Load More Replies...I look better in a suit than by boyfriend. He never tried wearing skirts but I'm sure he would rock them! :D
Suits and tuxedos tend to look great on anyone they are tailored to fit, regardless of gender.
Load More Replies...Wearing a suit won't turn me into a man, and wearing a dress won't turn a man into a woman. Honestly, I always felt bad for men who had to attend a formal event in high summer wearing clothing that covered them from neck to toe, while we women were comfortable in strappy mini-dresses. (This issue reverses somewhat in the dead of winter. It's hard to find formal clothing for women that keeps us warm, but not as hard as finding a suit that keeps you cool.)
my niece says things like, "that's a boy color, and that's a girl color". And I'm like, there are no such things as boy and girl colors, there is just colors.
I´m a gay man and fully agree anyone can and should wear whatever they want. That said I still feel that guys wearing high heels or dresses are kind of doing it more to make a statement or to seek attention.
Where was this? I'm curious because this seems (don't come at me, it's just my observation) to be a cultural/regional thing. I don't want to put my age here so I'll just say I'm about due for a midlife crisis as context. I didn't have this growing up. Kids wore what they wanted, played with what they wanted. Per my mom, that was what all the parenting books etc recommended back then and it makes perfect sense to me. Just let your kids be who they are. (PS my parents were conservative Christians
Im sure someone would ask something like that so I felt the need to clear it up.
Load More Replies...This is something I would do. Then my homophobic mom would see it and make me change it to “her opinion” (I’m homeschooled)
as soon as you have enough money, ditch the mum and pay to go to an actual school
Load More Replies...I'm not a dad, but if I had a kid who brought this home, I don't care what grade they got on it, that's a trip to their favorite restaurant right there.
They are shoes. They are also known as sneakers, runners, trainers, etc.
Load More Replies...Right wing propaganda. School is supposed to educate kids not brainwash them.
I love this kid. I hate whoever decided that question should be in the book.
This was clearly a good pairwork session, they agree that anything here is good enough for both sides.
Is It Gay To Love Your Son?
Some critics of this subreddit can be heard saying it is simply putting labels on people and pitting them against each other which only widens the gap between the LGBTQ+ and straight cisgender folks but the mod of r/AreTheStraightsOK believes they misunderstand what this subreddit is actually about.
"First and foremost, it was created by a straight cis woman, and second, it includes straight people (both cis and trans) within the mod team and the community. Critics seem to be missing the information that's provided right in the sidebar on how this subreddit is not aimed at straight people in particular — it's aimed at bad relationships and sometimes sexist/LGBT+phobic people. Now, if critics fell into one of those areas themselves, I could at least understand why they think it's widening some sort of 'gap.'"

I can cook. I did so since I was 15, because I wanted to. And, really surprising - my balls did not fall off, nor crimpled into some raisin-like remain of theirselves, nor did any other bad happen. Only effect I'm aware of is that I get decent food whenever I want. Uh, how'd that happen, eh? And I'm straight, even that didn't change.

I never quite understood the english "girlfriend". Can't boys have normal friends that are girls? The norwegian word for it, "kjæreste", leaves the gender out. It simply means "dearest".

LMAO! Wuss. I learned early not to embarrassed by this. It shows others you are in a relationship woman. Because why would the guy need them? Now, I have a wife and 3 daughters. I have carried arm loads of these out of a store. This is the dumbest s**t to be embarrassed of.

can we please just GET RID of fragile/toxic masculinity?!?!?!
Yeah
I would imagine that a straight person's motivation for telling a gay person that it's okay to be gay is to let them know that the straight person is an ally. Probably not the most effective way of communicating that fact, but it sounds like a straight person who is trying.

Wow, I forgot that was even a thing until just now....but dammit, back in the day, that term was EVERYWHERE!!!
Is It Gay To Not Have Skin Cancer ?
Imagine. If we could get everyone with masculinity so fragile to go battle the sun, I think the world might be a much kinder place to live. (Joking. I'm not actually advocating for genocide. I'll settle for changing minds.)

Seriously Help Yourself Before Committing To A Relationship
No. Nonononono. I hate this saying, I find ot extremely dangerous. Phrases like this are one of the reasons why so many women (and people, in general) are in toxic relationships - they sooo believe they can change the toxic person by power of love and even refuse to accept help. But some people arr still spilling bulls**t things like this and believe it being "romantic".
Apparently, Love Is Gay...
I hope they break up so he can find someone better, & she gets the cold, distant, unloving boyfriend she desires.

WOW, that is just offensive for so many reasons. I just hope the daughter hasn't been struggling to conceive and has to see that.
Dear Fellow Inked Ladies, We Are Mentally Corrupted And Emasculating
She wants to be a stay-at-home mom. You marry her. Aliens invade. Your 15 year old daughter refuses to leave the house. She uses all the power from the generator to power the vacuum cleaner. Your attempts to fortify your home are botched by your daughter's constant flower gardening and window washing. Your house is gleaming. The aliens easily find you. As they devour your brain, you conclude this is somehow all your wife's fault.
This One Isn't
Well, I would never again wash his clothes. His action made that decision pretty easy.
Half of these are just sexist comments (which are terrible but not necessarily LGBTphobic) or gross generalisations about straight people. Bigotry needs to be fought but generalising all straights are sexist homophobes is contra producent. Also fails to acknowledge the extended biphobia in the gay world (I can’t tell my best friend that I am bi despite him being gay ).
Yes! Biphobia is a thing, and it get completely ignored. So many people just don't get that there are unique issues when it comes to discrimination against bisexual people. I'm sorry you cant talk to your friend, Burs. Maybe if you told them their reaction would be different than you are expecting? And, if not, is that really the kind of friendship you want to hang on to? I realize that's over simplifying things but, maybe something to consider. I hope things work out for you.

I´m gay and really dislike the LGBTQIA+ movement. As a teenager I did tons of volunteer works for WJNH the leading gay rights organisation in Belgium but I seriously got turned off of all of it. The zealotry of the current movement is more harmful than helpful.
I feel that its a small minority that isnthis extremist but sadly the loud hateful people is heard more than the reasonable ones
Load More Replies...I really did NOT think that by now we'd still have so many bigots against LGBTQ+ and people of non-European descent in my country (the US). I was a teenager in the 80s and although we didn't hear much about trans people, I had gay friends and we had pride parades. I never met a racist person. I was so naive to think only the oldest generation and a couple of quacks would have any lingering bigotry. It's also true about workplace sexual harassment. Young women think that raising awareness and fighting against it is new, which is really sad, because we were all aware of it 20 years ago. We thought THAT was the moment we would put an end to it.
A lot of this is embarrassing to read, although there were a couple laughs though.
Christina Applegate's character on Married With Children summed it up this way: "I hate people who hate people. ... There's something wrong with that statement." People are so blinded by their own hatred that they cannot see that their own hatred is just as harmful if not more so. I could go on to quote a verse about a splinter in someone's eye, but I will leave it at that.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry, WHAT!? "Promoting pedofilia"? Not only did you spell it wrong but that is an absurd and DISGUSTING thing to say. Does anyone know how to report a comment and ask that it be removed on here?
