To us outsiders, being pregnant seems like such a beautiful experience. Months of researching baby names, learning about the human body during doctor's appointments, and bringing a new life into this world. Honestly, it sounds so magical.
But the everyday life of pregnancy is so much more than that. And way less glamorous than the movies want us to believe. Stylish maternity clothes are really expensive and hard to find, and that "glow" that everyone keeps mentioning is more sweat than sprinkles.
To paint you a more accurate picture of what it's really like to grow a human being in your belly, Bored Panda has compiled a list of honest posts that mothers and their loved ones made about them expecting.

Unsolicited Advice
It's ok to assume one is pregnant if it encourages to be polite (to give a seat, open doors, etc) but if it's used to control and humiliate like in this example... Makes me MAD.
Oops
To help you make sense of what pregnant women go through, Bored Panda contacted Vicki Broadbent, a writer, director, broadcaster, and founder of the parenting blog Honest Mum. "There is a myriad of changes which take place when you're pregnant: hormonal so chemical/emotional changes and of course physical as your body expands to house your precious cargo," the bestselling author of Mumboss (UK) and The Working Mom (the US and Canada) said.
Vicki herself has two boys and a baby girl on the way. "I believe pregnancy has provided me with somewhat of a maternal superpower too. My instincts are sharpened so my boundaries are stronger; I have less tolerance for any BS or drama as I'm protective of my mental and physical health and that of my baby's and my focus is firmly on that which brings me joy," she explained. "I recently read that women are born with all of the eggs they'll ever have in a lifetime and that when my mother was in my grandmother's womb I was there, nestled within her as a tiny egg. How incredible is that? I like to think there's a generational strength that has been passed down to me from this strong line of women, empowering me on a cellular level."
That's true, female babies are born with all the egg cells they're ever going to have; around 1-2 million of them! No new egg cells are made during their lifetime. When a girl reaches puberty, she has between 300,000 and 400,000 eggs left.
A Gift My Husband Made For Me To Use When Strangers/Family Get Too Grabby Towards My Belly Without Asking First
Feelin’ Like A Whole Chicken
Pregnancy starts taking its toll right from the get-go. "First-trimester nausea and fatigue certainly aren't fun. Nor is indigestion and insomnia of the second trimester but as this is my fourth pregnancy and third baby (I sadly lost a baby last year), I am relishing the magic of pregnancy as much as possible," Vicki Broadbent said.
That being said, Vicki still faces challenges. "I can't lie and say I'm fully at peace with my changing body as society/the media and my own pressure to not look 'too big' does affect me but I'm certainly trying to be kind to myself with loving affirmations and making healthy food choices and safely exercising. I'm doing daily meditation too so I can be more responsive and less reactive — hormones can be wild at times — so that helps!"
Tommy's, the largest UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, and neonatal death, also recognizes that it's natural to get a bit stressed when you're pregnant and acknowledges that coping with your symptoms and changing lifestyle, as well as everyday life, can sometimes be overwhelming. To relax, Tommy's offers these tips.

My Pregnant Wife Had To Dress Up As A Superhero For Work Today
Another way in which Endgame delivered! (The more serious being showing a superhero battling depression, generally being a mess, and crying, while still being a superhero.)
Personally, Vicki prefers meditation and allowing herself to feel all the emotions that arise. This includes crying when she needs to.
"Talking candidly about how I'm feeling is key," she said. "I kept a lot of trauma buried within me after a tough first birth and I learned from that period that not expressing my pain was detrimental to my mental health so now I talk (and talk) to those I love."
The mom listens to her body too. "When I need to sleep, I sleep and any guilt I might have harbored to try and be superwoman in previous pregnancies has definitely gone this time around."
Vicki discusses her experiences in her blog Honest Mum as well as on Facebook and Instagram. She will be releasing a new post today so be sure to check it out. Nobody is quite as articulate and sincere as she is.

What's the worst unsolicited comment you've heard about your pregnancy?
Very often they're only kind people being a bit clumsy. First one: 'oh, you're 7 months pregnant, but your belly is very discreet'. A week later, (admiring tone) ' wow you're due in October, but your belly is already quite big' (really depends on the clothes I wear). I know my baby is OK, I didn't overweight, I'm in good health and shape, so I really don't mind comments like this as they're first meant to be nice.

Pregnant women aren't weired. Pregnancy is a weird moment and these things are rather common, even though every woman will have different body reactions (no cravings for me). But the most important is that these 9 months pass very quickly and afterwards you usually don't bother all the little troubles. Feeling your baby moving in your belly, talking to them, preparing to welcome a little person is wonderful and the whole process is worth, if you choose it.
As much as I find some of these funny and somewhat relatable ( I have a 7-month old son) I think these posts do scare future mothers - no, your ancles won't disappear, no, you won't necessarily end up with a 5 size bigger panties (no doctor will say that you have to eat 3 breakfasts) - some women do have a difficult pregnancy, but there are many more who do not have any major difficultly during those months (therefore there aren't any funny posts on look I still wear the same size, I can shave etc.) I just hope ladies you don't take these posts super seriously :)
Ladies, please remember, you don't have to do something just because society forces it upon you. If you don't want kids, don't have them. If you want to adopt, adopt. I made the same decision years ago, that I will never get pregnant and nothing and no one can change my decision, and I have been so much happier and so relived. I always saw birth as something to be terrified of, and dreaded, but something every woman is forced to go through, until I realized that I had a choice.
Can I just say...I AM SOOOO GLAD THAT I NEVER GO PREGNANT!! My nieces and nephews and one of my sisters kept telling me that I would wish I had. Nope...70 now and I don't think I missed out on anything!
Here is an interesting biological tidbit: Pregnant woman are as different from unpregnant women as unpregnant women are from men. The changes in the biological processes, hormones, etc. are mind boggling.
Yep, never getting pregnant. This article is just reason number #98498634983
Pregnancy and labor varies tremendously from woman to woman. I had an employee who was VERY small and VERY thin and her longest labor of her five children was 20 minutes. As in, feels something and gives birth 20 minutes later. Then there are people like me who go 72 hours and die during the process. But most people are in between. I think a lot of the fear and surprise comes from the fact that most of us no longer live in community settings where we see pregnancy and labor up close and are used to that aspect of life. We all live in our little nuclear families, separated from most other people and so pregnancy and labor and delivery are quite foreign concepts to a lot of western women. Best clue you will have is to find out what kind of experience your mother and/or maternal/paternal aunts had, because you may well follow a similar pattern. But there are plenty of people in the world, so choosing not to have a child is well valid.
I wish these posts showed all the good stuff about being preggers. There's all the crap, but it's an incredible experience too. I don't want anyone to feel scared of this process because of the bad days. That's just how life is.
A pregnancy was always so scary for me. Another human growing inside of me has freaked me out since I was about 12. I don't know why.
Sooooo, the last two months of my pregnancy, I couldn't sleep. Of course I started to hallucinate. In the middle of the night I thought my cat was trying to attack my baby 😂 n her crib so I threw the cat across the room. The baby was still in my belly and the cat was a diet coke.. pregnancy brain at it's finest 😂
Anyone remarking how pregnant women are crazy needs to have a few doses of the hormones circulating in a pregnant woman's body, then comment.
I really want to have kids, but whenever I think about going through labor or having to deal with all of this, I get a little scared. I know it's worth it though to actually have a child.
Some of these make me NOT want to be pregnant t someday tho......... =(=(=(
I hear all the time what a pain it is, so no, I can't see how beautiful it is
Gee, I'm so glad I never had children. My 50th birthday is coming up in April. I'm really going to celebrate.
I am just sitting here wondering why you would go through the trouble of painting your toenails, shave your legs or cooch at this point. Baby won't come out wearing it like a beard and no one will be looking at your toes or pet your hairy legs while they are supporting your legs to help you out during birth. Just let it be and tidy it up once you've gone back to semi regular.
90% of these comments are either braindead, selfish or annoying. i don't want kids either but God damn stop making these posts meant for pregnant women about yourselves and how much you think the pregnant body is disgusting. holy sh1t grow up.
I expected more sexual harassment. I'm very happy for these ladies that it wasn't there. Just surprised, is all.
My first pregnancy I was so swollen with excess fluid I could only wear flip flops. I put on 35kg because the gynaecologist cut my thyroid meds in half when they should have been doubled. My second pregnancy I only put on 9kg had zero fluid retention and had a 5kg baby. My third pregnancy I put on 22kg, stomach grew to 51" and had another 5kg baby. The second was the easiest, I felt comfortable the entire time. I craved fruit with all 3, mandarins first, passionfruit second and fruit in general third.
I think the article was cool as a mom of 3 boys(15, 9 & 8) it's funny to think about my odd cravings for each pregnancy. My 1st craving was for lo mein and my husband brought me "lo mein" BUT it was made with skinny spaghetti noodles. I wanted the traditional lo mein with fat noodles. My poor husband I unleashed the evil and asked how he thought this was ok when obviously it was spaghetti NOT lo mein noodles. Every restaurant has their spin on it now my sane brain gets it but not 15 yrs ago.lol btw- I also couldn't eat chicken during all 3 pregnancies I would vomit. I had a weird cotton candy craving it could only be in blue NEVER in pink. My youngest sticky rice. I'd shape it similar to a shrimp roll and dip it in soy sauce. It was worth the cankles.lol
I wish someone did one on our sense of smell. I smell 1000x better than I did before like I can smell what my neighbors are cooking. I can smell 3 rooms over if my cats use the liter box. I can tell if the trash needs to be thrown out without entering the room. It’s like super nose or something 😂
I was so lucky that I skipped so many of those problems, but I feel for all the ladies that go thru that. Bless their hearts.
I empathise so much!! Women are amazing. Some of these made me laugh till I cried.
For every scary story there are more funny & beautiful stories. You should see a therapist to address your anxiety. If you decide you want to have a baby, you should look into getting a trained doulah who can help you during the labor & delivery & you can do hypnobirthing -it trains you to relax so you won't be overwhelmed by your anxieties. I did both & had 2 kids. With my first delivery I did both & it made for a great experience I do not regret. My doulah knew this amazing trick she told the midwife to inject a small amount of sterile water just under the skin in 4 places on my back & poof my lower back pain went away. The deliveries were major events in my life but I remember them as intense not painful. I did not have an epidural by choice. (I was very fearful of having a C-section & an epidural because I had heard horror stories so in response I did my research enough to find what I would be comfortable with. You do you & be confident in your choices dybe ruled by fear. Hugs GL!
Honestly, a huge amount of these comments are very annoying. This post has nothing to do with what you as a person want for yourself. Its just a silly post about pregnant women's problems. These are relatable and funny to any pregnant woman out there and even to those who are looking to be future parents. If you don't wanna be a mom good for you, but seriously stop flooding the comments with "yep this is why I'm not having kids" ffs it is not the worst thing in the world, it's just weird things that happen for 9months that pass by in a blink of an eye for most mothers. Stop making it sound so tabboo. To live in a day and age where people think pregnancy is weird, disgusting and uncomfortable is just embarassing. Pregnancy is beautiful, yes it has its own set of problems, but its great for anyone who genuinely wants to be a parent. As I said, if you don't want to have kids that's your choice, but don't pin the reason on preggo problems or how "gross the belly looks".
They should show real problems pregnant women can have this world and people in general dont care about pregnant women.
I was almost 8 months pregnant with twins and hadn't been able to go as far as the shop (500 meters) for more than a week. I wanted apples. I needed apples. And husband bought apples for me. It was the wrong kind of apples. I cried.
While I was pregnant with my youngest, I yelled at my husband. During last trimester I enjoyed and carved for Lipton ice tea lemon. In pouches, not bottles. So when ever he went to buy groceries, he would buy ten pouches for me. So one evening I drank one liter of ice tea (9. Pouch), and wanted more. So I made the last one. I thought it smelled different and tasted it, it was peach taste. So I yelled at him for solid 15 min, for not paying attention to make sure that ALL 10 were lemon. Then he left to buy more pouches, like 10-15 min before the store closed. When he came back, I didn't want it anymore. I was 7 months pregnant.
Hey...just a reminder that if you seek God, you will find Him. He cares about you and wants you to give Him your life <3
I managed to shave my legs when I was 9 months pregnant. foot up on the tub and lean a bit to the side.
I have 3 absolutely gorgeous children....well young adults now. I am 63 and one thing I miss about my younger days is being pregnant. It was always a magical time for me. I guess because I didn't focus on the uncomfortable, undo- able moments, but on watching my gift from God flipping and flopping in my belly. My oldest daughter would push my left side so hard, every night, that I could count every little toe. We would communicate by tapping a spot and getting a push back. I miss being pregnant so much.

Pregnant women are very beautiful women as long as they don't get mad.
