You raise a good point. I must admit I'm someone who finds it very hard to push myself forward. It's the fear of rejection. I'd say reach out but that's because I'd want someone to do that for me. I'm over the moon when someone makes contact and makes me feel wanted and cared about - I make sure they know how much I value it though. So at least they know they are wanted!

When my father had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital needing surgery, I went. I literally sat in the room and read a book. He fell asleep with me there and woke up with me there, and he never forgot it. That is all it took. I knew that he'd be ok, absolutely was sure of it. Yet I still went. Meanwhile, I didn't even rate a get well card soon from my job, let alone a visit from friends.

Yes, but when asked, don't say that nothing's wrong when it's obvious that something is wrong. Instead, say, "Yes, something is wrong, but I'm not ready to talk about it." At least you're not misleading your partner, then pulling the rug out from under them later (when you are ready to talk about it).

Because hair is different person to person and can react differently to dye. She also has turned down requests that she knows won't turn out well, or that she doesn't think she had the ability to do. I am from the US, but have lived in the UK for ten years. Most of this is not true here. There are plenty of homeless people. Everyone is not bilingual. There is trash everywhere. The beaches are a mess. Junk food is consumed all the time. It is common to stop at the "chippie" for a snack. Also, chips (large French fries) with many meals where I would never expect. For example, lasagne and chips? That's common. Health care is good if you can get it, but it has become an access nightmare in the time I have been here. It has become difficult to even get an appointment with a doctor. The doctors in my area have switched to scheduling appointments online. But the staff frequently shut down the website, reducing the 24/7 access to about two hours a day. And people die waiting for an ambulance for hours. The ambulance can't get there because it is lined up at the hospital trying to unload the previous patient.

I have a friend like this. When we go anywhere she just looks at me expectantly until I get out my wallet. She makes shitty comments about my weight and appearance when she’s feeling insecure about her own. She borrows clothes and refuses to give them back, claiming I’d said it was a gift. I’m getting better at boundaries and have ended the friendship several times, but she always ends up crying at my front door because something awful happened. And they were awful things: her mum's cancer, her mum dying, her being evicted (I narrowly avoided her moving in with me - she never would’ve left), her boyfriend beating her up and throwing her out of her own apartment, an abortion after a one night stand, so much pain. I want to help her, but she drives me up the wall when she slips back into her old patterns…

Have a "best friend" just like this. We've been friends for 22 years. Haven't actually seen her in person in 2 years now though and we live in walking distance from one another which is sad really. Makes every excuse under the sun. We even have sons that are months apart in age and i always thought or imagined that they would grow up to be good friends too but again, every excuse has been made in the past 2 years to meet up or even get our boys together to play. An occasional text here and there for the past 2 years... I call her my pen pal now just 😔

I wrote a journal for many years but stopped when as an adult my mum took my journal (not the one I was writing) and read it. She later told family members what I'd written and used it in arguments against me. That was several years ago and I stopped writing the day I found out my trust had been broken. I recently bought a house with my partner and he told me if I wanted to write again he promised me he would never look. So I am back writing every day, my journal ives on my desk and I have no doubt my partner will keep his word. The only time I will move it is when my mother visits!

Possibly the friend has social anxiety. You know, afraid to reach out, might accept an offer to do something but then backs out. I have a friend like this and I'm not sure what to do. I'm nearly always the one to make contact. I notice she gets very nervous sometimes, and she's mentioned being on anxiety meds. One time we got together she said she was feeling very anxious and needed to go home. Last time we got together was last year, and we had a really nice time hanging out at a local coffee shop. When we parted she said, "Let's not make it so long between visits!" I haven't heard from her and am wondering if I should contact her again.

Nail salons seem kind of gross to me. Maybe it's just the ones I've taken my mom to (never had a manicure myself), but all that nail dust floating around, and the dead skin from foot scrubs. I'm not usually squeamish, but eewww! One of her friends got a serious infection from a pedicure and ended up in the hospital. Are salons required to sterilize equipment between customers? Does the Department of Health do inspections on these places? *shudder*

More probable is that you're a captive audience when you're on the pot, kind of like when you settle on the couch to read a book. Cats know you'll be just sitting there for awhile, so it's a good time to get some undivided attention.

Crows like bread and most leftovers, especially eggs and meat. Put some out in the morning in the same place each day, preferably when they're nearby and can see you. They also like cat and dog food, wet or dry. If you put out dry food or dry bread, it's nice to also put out a pan of water for dunking. Don't leave food out at night unless you want to attract scavengers. If you're lucky, a mating pair of crows will hang out in your area and eventually bring junior around for a snack.
