Probably Should Have Said Something After The First One
What a polite way to express my fascination and absolute disgust and horror, thank you :)
Load More Replies...But due to the lack of teeth it just salivates and sucks on you
Load More Replies...Omg. I would probably buy one for the charity. Then it would have to go inside some protection circle and then sacrificed.
I didn't know there was something worse than those ceramic baby dolls until now
Yeah, maybe another kind of fabric or material would do the trick. I find them a little frightening but apretiate the work done.
Load More Replies...No. No no no no no no no no no no no. NO. Nope. Nopers. Nein. F*ck NO.
The Pillow My Mom Made Me Really Ties The Room Together
Doesn't appear to be much floor room for big pillow. Hope so.
Load More Replies...While people are complaining the size I am more annoyed by the one beige square.
For me, it is the two same patterns on one side, not opposite each other. It is the equivalent of having two of the same color christmas lights in a row.
Load More Replies...Holy Cow!!! Either that pillow is gigantic or your room is teeny tiny!!!
My corgi would love a new bed like this. She's a diva. Not too firm, but not too soft.
My Sister Legitimately Tried To Paint A Picture Of Stevie Wonder For My Dad On His Birthday
Not gonna lie, I find this amusing as heck. Although I question her choice of skin tone? It looks more like a warped Freddie Mercury...lol
Yes, the motif might be better placed a bit more to the right. Otherwise it is just a good kind of quirky. Catches his style, and that is more interesting than painting like a camera..
First off, let’s give a big round of applause to these wholesome people who decided to entertain everyone by sharing their funny masterpieces online. Because poking fun at your blunders is an excellent way to show that humor is a powerful tool that can boost your mood in no time. And crafting is a complicated business — only dedicated crafters succeed in creating flawless objects on their first try. So seeing the funny side of the handmade world can immediately lift the weight off any enthusiast's shoulders.
To learn more about the most common crafting mistakes and how to keep the creativity flowing, we reached out to Emma Jewell, a Cricut expert and all-around craft lover who shares inspiration and knowledge to help people in their crafting journey. "A lot of common crafting mistakes I see are not having everything you need at the start of a project," Emma told Bored Panda.
After all, it’s easy to get caught up in the joy of making new objects and fail to notice you’re bound to end up with a questionable product. "I often see projects that have gone wrong because they are using the wrong type of glue for the material used or the wrong type of paint, it just ends up in a bit of a mess! Make sure to read the bottle and get clued up on what kind of materials you are working with before you start."

Can't tell if the terrier looks disappointed or relieved...it does look perfect for the whippet, though!
Of course it does, whippets are naturally chic. God I love this picture
The terrier seems to be concerned for his or her brother or sister. Awwww….The hat is unique and adorable!
With so many mishaps floating around online, it’s clear that some enthusiasts bite off more than they can chew. According to Emma, people sometimes tend to overestimate their abilities.
"As crafty-minded people, our first thought is always 'I can make that!' So wading into a project that might be way above our capabilities happens a lot," she said. "But that’s also the fun of crafting — having a go, and finding out if it’s going to be a success or not!"
"I think a lot of crafters are winging it, but that’s where the joy is, in the making part — even if the finished project isn’t what you set out for it to be, you still had a lovely time making it," Emma told us.
My 4 Year Old Found Permanent Markers And Is So Proud That He Is Now Darth Maul
How DO you remove pen markers from a face? Don't damage eyes, nose, mouth.
Load More Replies...I want to know how you fixed it...or did he have to live with it til he shed the skin cells that had the color on his face?!?!
Permanent markers really aren't that permanent, they come off pretty easily. Alcohol wipes, sanitiser, or I think some make up remover wipes work too.

My Boyfriend Painted Our Dog
I actually think it’s pretty darn adorable, especially the eyes.
My Mum Tried To Make My Sister A Teddy Bear. I Present Quasimodo In Bear Form
He looks pretty good except for his face. He looks like a drunk surgeon sewed him up after a motorcycle accident.
Don't judge this too hard if you've never done it. It's very easy to think you have that eye in the right place then find out you're wrong once you pull the stitch tight
Looks like she sewed the features on before sewing the pieces together. Don't do that.
You know what? I actually like it. She tried and doing this stuff can be really freaking hard; I've unraveled near complete crochet projects that started looking like this. I just want to put a tophat on him and name him Sir Derpington
My mom calls it frogging her project. Just ribbit (rip it) apart
Load More Replies...But some people can’t help but feel discouraged if their project didn’t turn out as expected. After all, even the smallest crafts can take us hours, days, or weeks to finish, so it’s perfectly normal to get bummed out when your expectations swiftly fall apart. And the digital world doesn't make it any easier.
You rarely see the weird and the ugly side of failed attempts at making craft projects. As our Instagram feeds are filled with carefully curated and choreographed finished products, looking at these messes is a refreshing sight. Thankfully, lists like this one provide us with a slight sense of relief by reminding us that, in reality, everyone can make a mistake. Because crafting isn’t always pretty, and it’s absolutely fine.
I Named Her Barry B. Benson
I realized 3 things while making this bee. 1) Don’t buy jumbo size yarn. 2) The magic ring is hard to do with jumbo size yarn. 3) Free-handing a project will get you drastically different results. She kinda looks like a bee and a caterpillar.
You missed the lesson: "double crochet" in UK patterns is single crochet in the US. And jumbo yarn makes AMAZING amigurumi.
Yes, you always realise you did the wrong kind of crochet if the length to width ratio does not fit.

After Numerous Failed Projects, Finally A Success. A Slipper That Would Fit An Elephant. Now I Just Have To Acquire An Elephant
If you broke your ankle, your foot would swell up to fit this. It's radical, but it's definitely an option.
Or to go over a plaster cast to keep your toes warm!
Load More Replies...The one time I tried crochet, I made a slipper supposedly for my 9-year-old daughter. It ended up so small that she used it as a "sleeping bag" for one of her hamsters. I gave up crochet after that.
Yeah, the darker blue part is fine! It's that super puffy yarn that made the cuff enormous.
Load More Replies...Whosoever this slipper shall fit shall have the honour of my hand in marriage!
Emma pointed out that if you ever feel hesitant to continue elevating your craftwork after a hilarious disaster, just keep going. "Part of the skill in crafting is creative problem solving, so finding a way to switch up the project halfway through or finding a creative way to cover up a mistake is part of the fun!"
"A lot of the time as adults, we haven’t crafted since school, so don’t be hard on yourself. You are flexing a muscle that you haven’t used for a while," she added.

I Took My Art Very Seriously In High School And Thought I Was Pretty Good. Looking Back At This Piece, I May Have Been In Denial

All I Know Is That Somewhere Along The Line A Mistake Might Have Been Made
Actually, you're not that far off. I think you skipped a step towards the end.
Was that step, the undo it all and start again at the first fold?
Load More Replies...Moreover, we sometimes forget that even the most minor tweaks and changes can make a huge positive impact on our projects. "I always say that there is no such thing as too many embellishments, adding a bit of sparkle has helped me disguise many a mistake," Emma told us. "There is always something small you can do to cover up a mistake or level up the finished project, be it adding a pom-pom or flipping the project over to show its good side."
Emma was kind enough to offer a few pieces of advice: "Always have fast-drying glue to hand, a glue gun is my weapon of choice as that will stop you from getting into a gluey mess. Take time to enjoy the process and the problem-solving aspect of the craft, and don’t be too hard on yourself! We all started somewhere!"
The Top Is Pottery That My Mom Got In Germany, The Bottom Is My Attempt To Make It In My Ceramics Class
I did this! My husband loves it so much, he took it to work for his desk!
I made a really ugly lizard in school, my Mom used it at work as a paperweight until she retired, and still has it around the house. It really is the ugliest thing. Basically just a stick with four legs and a tail, its mostly green with red and yellow spots.
it has nice shape, just the painting requires a little work, but still not bad work.

I assume it’s meant to be Thomas the tank engine and not a flashing pervert in a blue coat….lol
But you were so happy with it at the time such an adorable big smile.
It's like a cross between a flasher and a shark with some numbers thrown in for good measure. Thomas is rolling over in his engine house.
When you do pick up a new form of art, you’ll see the benefits in no time. Working with your hands and engaging in creative and meaningful occupations has the special power of getting your mind into the flow state. And there’s an abundance of evidence suggesting that it leads to countless physical and mental health benefits.
A worldwide online survey of over 3,500 knitters found respondents reported they derived a wide range of perceived psychological and social benefits from the practice that contributed to their quality of life. The majority said they felt relaxed, relieved from stress, and got a boost of creativity and a sense of accomplishment. Moreover, there’s a significant relationship between knitting frequency and feeling calm and happy.

Cat Found A New Scratch Post In My Latest Portrait. Lesson Learned = Never Leave A Clay Portrait In The House With A Cat. Make A Good Horror Sculpture Though
Bwahahahahahaha I laughed so hard I almost peed! 😂😂
Load More Replies...I'd dry it and fire it. Sell it with proceeds to an animal charity. That's what we did with the happy " accidents" of our studio cat. She often sold her pieces more successfully than well known potters at the studio!
mmmmm..... really? those don't look like cat claw marks. Some are way too deep. Some are singular marks. You never get 1 scratch from cat paw. I call BS
Cats don't normally scratch sideways and they hate the feeling of wet things being stuck in their nails
Load More Replies...I call big time bullsh!t. A cat would NEVER try to scratch wet clay. They hate getting that sort of stuff stuck in their claws. Plus cats use scratching posts/sofas/chairs etc to sharpen their claws, why would they use what is effectively wet mud to do that?? Maybe after it was fired a cat might try but not in this state. 👎
Not from a cat...but I would be deeply concerned about your roomates.
Clay Monstrosity
This is that immortal snail that follows you forever, trying to kill you, isn't it?
"Crafting can help move people from inactivity to engagement and it tends to make them feel good," Gayle Torres, a board-certified art therapist at Cancer Wellness at Piedmont, said. "While it isn’t art therapy, crafting does offer stress reduction."
Torres explained a few physical benefits our bodies feel when we carry out activities involving repetitive, similar motions. "Crafting projects can help the brain send signals to the body that all is well. Blood pressure and tension are reduced, resulting in a sense of well-being."

Load More Replies...Before Hitler used it for his logo- swastikas were used regularly in designs but today it seems quite thoughtless, indeed.
I was traveling around Indonesia and saw a lot of them that were used long before Hitler stole them. My grandparents are from Krakow so it would definitely upset me to get this.
Load More Replies...Don't feel bad - someone worked on this for days, maybe weeks, and they apparently didn't pick up on it. (Or at least I hope not...)
Load More Replies...What's wrong with it? Clearly a lot of sewing skill went into th- oh no.
My thoughts exactly.... Took a few seconds to notice it...
Load More Replies...Oh my... They should not have used all white strips in the middle and it would have avoided this unfortunate effect.
Yeah, I've done this pattern. I learned pretty quickly to lay out each square before I started piecing it, so I could see if I needed to rearrange or swap colors to avoid...this.
Load More Replies...Maybe they read the Wikipedia article on Swastikas and learned: "The swastika is a symbol with many styles and meanings and can be found in many cultures." and "The adoption of the swastika by the Nazi Party and neo-Nazis is the most recognizable modern use of the symbol in the Western world." I think a lot of people, even if they weren't even alive then have this generally negative association of this symbol, because of Hitler and the Nazi Party and neo-Nazis. Perhaps they had family members who survived the Holocaust and told stories about the horrors of it, or they watched documentaries about it to learn about their history. I only learned back in January of 2020 that it isn't/wasn't always used to mean Nazi things.
Load More Replies...I must say I get mildly annoyed whenever someone is legitimately appaled by this symbol and then some smart a*s comes along saying "oh but it used to be a positive symbol! It's from Buddhism and Hinduism!!" Yes, we all know that, but that doesn't change the fact that it is now associated with Nazis. It is NOT an innocent symbol. I can assure you that neo nazi assholes who graffiti it onto buildings (on refugee shelters even) do NOT mean it as attempt to "give it back it's original meaning", so as long as there are such people, no, it cannot be used innocently. End of rant (and I know what you're going to say, Tell me you're German without telling me you're German, lol) Edit: I do know that in this pic, it was not done on purpose, I mean in general
Doesn't it make a difference it's in the opposite direction, so it's not actually a swastika?
Load More Replies...My Friend Got His Dreads Cut Off, His Mom Turned Them Into A Cat Bed
Of all the many people ive known who've had dreads in their hair, not one of them hasn't been disgusted with what they found once they finally cut them off.
Can confirm! "EEW! But...but it never itched! I have felt nothing!" I still hear the screams of my roommate, looking horrified at all the critters hurrying away from her freshly cut dreadlocks... She decided she wanted to get rid of it, we all threw a Farewell-party, festive atmosphere, everybody cut a lock, booze, good music,... The hair ended on the kitchen table, after 5-10minutes someone suddenly started shouting "Eew!". It was like watching rats leaving a sinking ship.
Load More Replies...Isn't wool just sheep dreds? I thought it was quite stunning. Colors subtle, etc.
Exactly! At least no sheep were harmed in the making of this cat bed.
Load More Replies...Why gross? Just cause it's hair ya mean? I used to have dreads forever ago, people would ask me if I ever washed my hair...lol! Of course I did! And the dreads got tighter and better when I used really strong bar soap to strip the heck outta it and make it knot up tighter...not all dreads are unwashed!
Exactly! My cousin has them and she's very clean with them. They are so beautiful.

When You Find Out Yarn Weight And Needle Size Matter In A Pattern
The First Sweater I Ever Made
I knew nothing about sizing and was so nervous it'd be too small so it ended up being HUGE, but also, the neck was so small I could barely squeeze my head into it. I've since taken this sweater apart and make a throw blanket I love with it. Live and learn!
I was so close to making the same mistake!! I actually ripped out the whole thing from halfway done when I realized what was happening and started over 😭😭 Such a long, painful process but now I have a great sweater that fits
Same, I overestimated the size and when it was almost done I tried it on because it looked huge and it went down to my knees! I frogged THE WHOLE THING and am remaking it following my measurements, not just the size (I wear an XL Tshirt, wanted the sweater loose so made a 2xl sweater, then frogged it and am now making a l one).
Load More Replies...Shame about the neck, it makes me uncomfortable just looking at it. Otherwise not bad at all! I love over sized sweaters!
I like this one, I live in Vermont which is so cold for such long periods of time that this sweater has room to layer under it! And big enough to wear two pairs of leggings or long John and leggings. I'm saying this is not a bad sweater at all. In my opinion I'd use it all day up here ITS FLIPPING COLD
This Painting My Grandmother Copied
What? Shaming your grandma for trying to paint? Look at the details she has in the hair, and how she has tried to replicate the ruffles, and the lovely shadow tone under the neck she’s added. Face proportions are hard to do, and this will be a great learning experience for her to see how to adjust them for next time.
Right? I bet Gram's isn't making fun of the goofy cards you made her for Christmas every year, shame

Condom Beanie? Top Is What I Made, Bottom Is What It's Supposed To Be. Oops
There is no way the top was made with a pattern for the bottom. The stitches and yarn are completely different.

Next time use a bigger loom, and then make it longer and tie the brim to the hat so it won’t unfold. Talking from experience, I have made a condom Beanie before lol

I like the little blue earrings in her actual ear! The DIY thing, not so much ;)
I Tried Making My First Pair Of Pants Today. I Goofed, But The Result Was Hilarious (I Fixed Them And Finished)
Look at the dimensions. She cut the pieces right, but when she sewed the seams, she legged where she should have crotched, and crotched where she should have legged.
Load More Replies...Ah, she forgot how legs in trousers work. The long seam down the front of the 'garment' is meant to be the seam of one trouser leg. There will be a similar seam going down her back. That's meant to me the other leg seam.
What? NO. The only thing she did wrong was to cut the fabric from crotch to waist too long. Otherwise, the shape of the pants is correct. The rise of pants goes from the front of your waist to the back of it. Pants are constructed in 4 pieces and she has 4 pieces sewn together properly. Unless you're not expressing yourself as you mean to, these pants are put together correctly. The rise is just way too long.
Load More Replies...This made me laugh... um... very, very hard. I am still laughing. A lot.
I'm kinda curious how she didn't notice that earlier in the process. But love the enthusiasm! 😂

Seriously, could be . Though I am now wondering what could be done with old socks...
Load More Replies...Lol! No purpose, just so fun! Ooh, idea, rugs for in front of your cats' litter box. 😃
If you see someone doing this... you should probably have them checked out. ESPECIALLY if they're someone who is normally very crafty & likes to sew. This could go for anything. Say someone is doing something within their realm of interests but there's something off about what they're doing... like this. She's seeing. Seems normal. But then it's like wtf? That's a sign that something isn't connecting in the brain right. Best to have grandma checked out. Could be nothing but a little brain fog. Could be a sign of a stroke. Could be early signs of dementia. Or grandma could have eaten a weed gummy in accident. Who knows but better safe than sorry.

Decided To Paint My PS3 Controller
Don't do that, even if you're good at painting! The controller will get sticky and smeary from it, the paint will start to come off and get stuck at your hands or under the buttons and joysticks. You're basically ruining your controller for throwaway
Wouldnt a minimalistic design with nail polish work tho?
Load More Replies...There is special paint just for plastic that you use. Spray paint the base coat then carefully hand paint details. Add a couple of layers of clear coat and let it sit in a cool DRY place for a few days. That stops the sticky and smeary. (source: I customize phone cases and controllers.)
That could easily be fixed with some sanding with 1000 grit wet/dry sand paper.

The Handle Fell Off At My Moms House, So She Glued A Pair Of Espadrilles To The Door
Hey. No need to lock it. Nobody else is going to break in a house with shoes for doorhandles. 😂
With Just Two Easy Steps, You Too Can Make A Nightmare
Felting is just soooooooo boring. I tried it but it was just tedious.
I tried doing it but the texture feel just is like nails down a blackboard to me. I do not like felt.

I Just Started Crocheting And I Tried To Make My Son A Kitty
But you know what? Your son will treasure it. I have a blanket my mom made when I was born and it is…bad. And I love it.
Might've started out as a cat, but they wound up with a pretty decent bear.
From o crocheter to another, for a first atempt it is very good and unique.

I Followed The Tutorial But Hers Is A Circle And Mine A Hexagon?
For those that don't know, making something round like this requires you to make multiple stitches in the same spot. This looks like the 1st round was 6 in one spot. Then it would have been 2 in each of those stitches, bringing it to 12. Then you would alternate 1 stitch, 2 stitches. Every round increases by 6 and those increases always happen near the same point. Most rounds look slightly hexagonal until you get your stitch tightness down, until then just tug and stretch it a bit and you'll get that round shape
The ones my students make are sometimes rounder then mine as they talk while crocheting and guess the times they need to add. Usually this is not good at all, once in a while it works perfectly.

This Accurately Depicts My Co-Worker's Roller Coaster Of Emotions After Working On This Sculpture For 5 Years. Before vs. After
Okay so I checked the source - it wasn't destroyed as such. They made a mould of it, and the master sculpture gets broken to get the mould off. So it looks more heartbreaking than it is, but even so I bet it was hard to see all that work in bits!
Was feeling terrible for him but reddit told me: 'Apparently this is an ole bait and switch. They made a master mold of the sculpture in silicone and the original has to be destroyed to get it out of the mold. It is now being cast in a more permanent material.'
This post shouldn't be on this list even. He is a professional sculptor - its hardly a diy project.
And this thing in pieces isn't unexpected. Statue was intentionally destroyed

Actually were well done handcraft, it's probably uncomfortable but looks impressive! Also, it's just Jeans fabric, people, it can be washed. Should smell fine.
Personally I kind of like this... only because it was Converse haha
I really like it! Well, not the weird white parts around the neck, but the rest is awesome, and I'd wear it if I had the figure for it (and if it was... clean). :-D
Honestly though... What else are you going to do with them when you've worn a hole through them? It's not like they make the soles to last like they used to.
Tried To Patch Up A Hole In My Corduroy Pants With A Bit Of Leather And Some Thick String. Total Fail. Any Advice For How To Patch Up Corduroy Pants?
You can get an iron-on patch at a fabric store and — um — iron it on.
I'm no patching expert, but always use fabrics with similar elasticity. The hole needs to be clean of thread pieces and tears and cut flat. Sometimes I put the fabric spot first on the wrong side and then the other one on the outside, which is more aesthetically pleasing. Then you have themed pants for Diy projects!
The patch needs to be inside and bigger than the hole. Then you can embroider the edges like Japanese Sashiko. = perfection.
Pinata Creation Was Not A Success. The Product Was As Far As It Went
Lessons learned - don't use corn flour as a flour substitute, don't have thick paste, don't choose a difficult shape as your first project, don't put it in the sun to dry (it popped the balloon before we were ready for it to pop). Ugggh. Oh well, live and learn.

The first one turned out to be half smaller than in the picture. I tried again with a bigger hook and the same thing again. Then I gave up and crocheted two more layers and now they are the right size. Such mistakes are inspiring because you have to be able to laugh at mistakes.
None of these are fails. I see someone who took their time and effort to create something. No one failed here at all.
Thank you! I get that it's emotionally safer to put yourself out there as a funny fail, but let's all not be so down on ourselves! These were great, and as other people have said, everyone has to starts somewhere- and personally, I find it more satisfying to trial and error, than not try at all.
