Once per week. 4 lines. 17 characters per line. Ladies and gents, please meet the internet's beloved Wallingford Sign at one Seattle propane gas station. Every week, it puts up a whole new joke, pun, or one-liner that brings smiles to people’s faces and entertains its fans around the world.

The humorous Wallingford Sign rose to popularity in 2005 when the owners converted the auto repair shop into an ExtraMile convenience store and petrol station. “It had always been easy to think of useful messages to put on the sign for things like service promotions and store specials and the like,” says the sign's official Facebook page.

So the ExtraMile owners went an extra mile, and the puntastic Wallingford Sign was born. Let’s see some of its best weekly jokes below and be sure to check out part 1 and part 2 when you’re done scrolling through this one.

Just putting this out there FYI: A cookie is a type of biscuit. To use cookie in such a broad way is just irresponsible. If I went to the U.S and wanted a cookie, I'm playing a dangerous lottery if I ask someone to get me one!

Obviously some people don't get the joke. They are taking this seriously.

As a Brit, it's still cookies. A biscuit and a cookie are completely different things here ★

True, it's confusing to watch BBC & have them discuss "biscuits".

If only we did call them biscuits. I could tolerate them more if they were.

The internet-famous Wallingford Sign board is situated at Seattle Propane at Wallingford Chevron. Not only does it put smiles on locals’ faces, it has become a well-known online source of jokes and puns. They usually feature 4 lines that are made up of up to 17 characters, and come up once per week, just like a good ol’ newspaper.

Bored Panda reached out to the creators of Wallingford Sign to find out more about how it became internet famous. The representative told us that initially, they were getting around 30 to 50,000 views, but it all changed 4 years ago. “Then about 4 years ago we posted the sign ‘make America grate again, ban pre-shredded cheese.' That one went up to about one and a half million views on Facebook and introduced us to a worldwide fan base.”

When it comes to selecting funny lines for Wallingford Sign, the creators said that “We avoid common, sappy, motivational; we try to do edgy, clever, odd.” Sometimes, they “make them up, we borrow them, and we get lots of suggestions,” they added.

“It has always been easy to think of useful messages to put on the sign for things like service promotions and store specials and the like. But with the ExtraMile, there were no more cars to fix and the place was plastered with store specials. So we decided to do something different.”

But Wallingford Sign is not the only sign of its kind. In fact, these humorous boards are pretty common across the US and if you’re into a punny fix, make sure to check out our previous article with 55 of the funniest signs spotted around the world.

This is a fun thread, I don't mean to bog it down - but I will share that after I read the anti-caking agents and mold inhibitors they have to add to pre-shredded cheese to keep it consumer ready as it sits on the shelf, I've not bought another pack and shred my own now. (I get vaccinated and believe in western medicine, I'm not a kook or anything, but esp since shredded cheese can often be more expensive it's an easy choice!)

We might not have gotten zombies, but it's certainly exposed the brainless members of our society.
