Researchers from Hungary’s ELTE Eötvös Loránd University set out to understand what really happens when people bring a pooch into their homes, so they surveyed 246 dog owners, asking them to weigh in on everything from vet bills to emotional bonds. What they discovered perfectly contextualizes these memes.
“We were interested in seeing if all these aspects of dog ownership could group together into bigger components,” said Laura Gillet, lead author and Ph.D. student at the Department of Ethology. Her team found three main dimensions to the human-dog relationship: the feel-good factors (emotional, physical, and social benefits), the challenges (negative emotions and practical difficulties), and the commitment factor (daily responsibilities and routine changes).

My dalmatians favorite thing was to pull all the stuffing out of the animal squeakers, until he got the squeaker. Then he would happily squeak it until inevitably his tooth would puncture it and it wouldn't squeak anymore. Then he would be despondent. The most ecstatic he ever was was caterpillar that had like 10 squeakers in it.

My sweet dog brought in a "gift" in the middle of the night, put it next to my bed and then she woke me up. It was like 3 am and the lights were off. If you want your dog on the sofa, but want to be mindfull of guests. Train your dog to lie on a blanket on the sofa, so when guests come you can offer them a relatively hair free and dog free coutch. This also mean you can place your dog on any couch that is more convenient for you, by just moving the blanket.

I have several dog bikinis that my old gray cat used to wear XD She liked wearing clothing/costumes. My current cats aren't as into it, so Wintressia's costumes are all languishing in a box. I hate to be that person, but, German ShepHERD. As in, a herding breed.
However, while most owners believe it’s perfectly acceptable for the dogs to be on the couch (70%) and on the bed (67%), a vast majority have strong feelings against their pets joining them at the dinner table (70%).
Ultimately, the thing that research and these memes demonstrate is that dog ownership is far more complex than a simple cost-benefit analysis.

All my dogs learn not to stare. Sometimes they'll be looking to the side and turn their heads to the other side with me halfway between and their eyes lock on me while their head is turning. Eventually they learn to sit with their backs to me and listen to me eat. Every time I take a bite their ears perk.

My GSD mix loves going to the vet too! He had distemper as a puppy, so we spent a LOT of time at vet appts, neurological specialists, the emergency vet, and so on. Everyone thought Stilgar wouldn't make it (distemper's fatality rate is 80%-90% in puppies) so everyone on staff always fussed over him extra. He came to realize that going to the vet meant tons of extra attention XD He survived distemper and just recently turned 3 years old, and is STILL an absolutely unapologetic attention-sponge!

My tuxedo cat will absolutely walk up to you while you are eating and will SLAP food out of your hand/off of your fork in order for him to steal it XD He sometimes is so quick that I don't even have time to react. If there's anything dangerous in the food I'm eating (garlic, onions, etc.) I have to shut him in a bedroom or eat standing up XD

One of my dogs had distemper as a puppy, and while he survived, he's fairly neurologically disabled - he has mobility and balance issues and has constant, non-stop myoclonus (full-body twitching.) He can eat normally and plays and runs like a normal dog, but I've often wondered what I'd do if I had to go somewhere (I don't take vacations, but like if an emergency happened.) I don't know who I'd trust to care for him, or if it would be better to board him at the vet's who have known him his whole life, etc. XD My mom used to feed my cat pretzels and rice with teriyaki sauce, so I'm not sure she'd be a good candidate for watching after my dog XD

That would be my van windows and the window over the couch and the French doors. All of my windows are the same level as the one over the kitchen sink. I'm happy about that for security reasons, my front door was kicked in 1 time and the other time my house was broken into they couldn't kick in the door because of how my husband fixed it so 1 guy boosted the other over the deck rail and a brick was thrown through the old sliding door. Those jerks cost me almost $2000 to have the French doors put in and a security system. This was almost 20 years ago and only an idiot would try to break in now with 80 and 98 lb German Shepherds in my house.

My dogs don't really go in for the "nose art", but the side doors of my van (the plastic handrests/windowsills) are marked with my dogs' "tooth art" from when they were puppies XD (GSD/Kuchi Dog mix and a Belgian Malinois.)

My windows were always smeared at the bottom because I had Wire Haired Terriers. We called nose art "pupkis".

There are a few reasons for that.You can check on any behaviorist or trainer YT channel. But always you have to train the dog with little steps how to do it correctly.

Anxiety and stress will do that. Plus the cage is way too small. I hate cages anyway. If dogs are left on their own too long, this is what happens. They're social animals and need company
