My favorite Christmas memory, ever (other than the year I got a Fonzy motorcycle), is the time we saw a life size Nativity scene. As my kinda devout Catholic mum slowed down so we could all get a good look, my younger sister piped up from the back of the station wagon with "please don't stare at the exhibit for too long. The mother WILL eat her young." I started laughing so hard, I almost wet myself. It only got worse when my mum started sputtering "CHRISTINA FRANCES!" over and over, which only encouraged my cackling fits. I had the mother of all headaches by the time we got home, but it was sooo worth it. I still can't see a Nativity display without the urge to start laughing.

A friend of mine got his mom to drive me around to do this for the first time when I was in my twenties visiting Canada, it was magical. We don’t/can’t really do that here.

My dad still does that! This year he took my daughter (17) and her boyfriend - they loved it!

We have this one family in our city who goes all out rents a radio station to sync his light to (as to not disturb neighbors) plus if you go to watch their show they bring around homemade cookies. They're such a sweet older couple and somehow their light show gets better yearly, I love them!

One of mt kids got glasses this past December. Driving home from the glasses store with her new spectacles, she was constantly going "WOW looks at the lights!" No one realized she couldn't tell they were individual lights and not just bright blurs. Now she can appreciate Christmas in full detail!

I grew up in a poor rural area, so my father would bundle us and the neighbor kids up, stick us in the back of his hay-lined pickup truck, and drive us into the posh neighborhoods. I can still see all the bright lights reflecting off our delighted faces.

Still happens here in Ireland, there are several houses which always have big displays, and generally they collect money for charity. The 9ne nearest me has raised €70,000 over the last 27 or so years, all going to the hospital that cared for a family member before their death.

My dad still tries this. Unfortunately, there was an 'incident' in my childhood at a light park in WVA (along with my parents, sister, grandfather, cousin, uncle, 2nd cousins, and great-uncle, an ill-advised car "caravan", multiple bathroom trips, and missed medication schedule) that has forever impacted my ability to do this as I am still traumatized over 30 years later...
