A new trend continues to sweep the internet — people are editing dad jokes onto the iconic Captain America elevator scene and making us laugh with their cheesy puns. The Captain America Elevator meme with Chris Evans started popping up and going viral in February 2020, and now there are more and more posts of them each day. There’s a bit of a backstory involving the four stills used for the joke, so if you haven’t seen the Captain America or the Avengers movies, beware of minor spoilers!
The stills used for the meme template come from two Marvel movies — Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In Winter Soldier, Captain America takes on a bunch of Hydra soldiers in an elevator in one of the standout fight scenes in the movie. But when Cap goes back in time in Endgame and the scene happens again, he instead whispers “Hail Hydra” to Jasper Sitwell to avoid the fight altogether. Chris Evans is reportedly a fan of puns himself — rumors say that he likes to crack a few dad jokes whilst recording on set!

Avengers: Endgame grossed Marvel Studios nearly 2.8 billion dollars and it’s no wonder that Marvel wants to repeat its success. With “Phase 4” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming, there’s a lot to look forward to.
According to Time, upcoming Marvel movies include Black Widow, an Eternals film with Angelina Jolie, Shang-Chi & The Legend of the Ten Rings, and a Blade reboot in the future. However, most of these will be released later than anticipated due to delays in filming. For instance, Black Widow was supposed to come out on May 1.
Marvel Studios had been struggling until Disney bought it just over a decade ago. Before that happened, they were on the ropes and sold off the rights to their most popular and beloved characters, including Spider-Man which they sold to Sony and the X-Men which they gave to Fox.
But Disney helped bring back some of Marvel fans’ fave superheroes. Disney teamed up with Sony in 2017 to make Spider-Man: Homecoming and are set to make even more films about Peter Parker together.
Speaking of Fox, Disney bought it in 2019 and merged the Marvel and X-Men universes into one. So we’re sure that there will be plenty more great Marvel movies to come and we’ll be seeing more of Captain America sooner or later too. After all, he’s great for making dad jokes.
