Living in climates where winters are cold means a few things: you gotta have one hell of a warm blanket, a huge cup to keep yourself on a constant stream of boiling hot beverages, and patience to get through the coldness and darkness you never asked for.
On the other hand, it’s the season of ugly sweaters and stay-in nights with Netflix binges that make you feel like Kevin McCallister from Home Alone even despite the fact you’re thirty or so.
So today we are taking you on a photographic ride into the freezing temperatures that are snow and ice-castle approved. Some of them may make you shiver just by looking at them, so get yourself that warm blanket we already talked about!

For many, the freezing temperatures of winter are an annual source of dread and discomfort. But for some, sub-zero temperatures are just another part of life.
For the indigenous people of the Arctic, life in freezing temperatures has been the norm for centuries. The Inuit, Yupik, and Inupiaq of the Arctic Circle have adapted to the harsh conditions by developing clothes and tools made from the materials they have at hand, such as animal hides and bone. They have also developed unique ways of cooking and hunting to survive in cold environments.In other parts of the world, people have also developed ways to cope with the cold.

This happened to me, I didn't go out and bust it up, when it melted slightly, it slid off the roof and busted 5 of our windows, it was over our sunroom/porch, so a lot of windows were in the line of fire! Make sure this doesn't happen to you. Winter was expensive that year!

Don't ever eat icicles off your roof!!! Fun fact/gross fact.... obviously icicles form from water that's runs off your roof. Well you know what else is on your roof? Bird poop. A lot of it. And that water picks it up, and freezes it in the ice you're eating bird s**t!!

In Siberia, the Yakut people have developed a unique form of yurt, called a chum, made from animal hide to provide shelter from the cold. In the Himalayas, high-altitude communities have adapted to the cold by wearing thick layers of clothing and using yak and sheep wool for blankets.
Speaking of Siberia, on January 17th, the city of Yakutsk, notoriously known for being one of the coldest places in the world where people live, saw an abnormally long cold snap. The temperatures here fell to minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit.
"You can't fight it," one resident dressed in two scarves and multiple layers of gloves, hats and hoods told Reuters when asked about the cold here. "You either adjust and dress accordingly or you suffer."

High winds during severe cold is the worst. Normally my house is quite well sealed against drafts, but 40mph winds press in past the seals on my doors and windows. Around christmastime We had -15F and high winds, I gave up and stapled moving blankets over all my west-facing windows. It made a bigger difference than I thought it would.

Oh wow I am so freaking homesick looking at these. I love where I live most of the year (summer is awful) but I do miss real winter. Actual cold. The sheer exhilaration of ... okay,w ell, sometimes, just surviving it.... but it's in my DNA to love it, I guess?

Lol, c'mon, we really start whining when it gets below 70f! At least we do in southwest FL, lol! I'd rather deal with a hurricane every 20 years or so than be freezing! As long as Waffle House is open! I go visit my brother in NY and he keeps his house at 68f year round and I'm bundled up with sweats and blankets. Brrrrr...

Great examples (sort of) why winter's my favorite season: it's the most beautiful one in my opinion. (well, there's more to my love for it too) But really, despite the beauty, I'm glad these extremely frozen over sceneries and houses etc. aren't normal where I live. We get -10 C/14 F to -15 C/5 F during a regular winter (sometimes -20 C/-4 F or colder, but not for long), which I really like because it's usually not very windy. Lots of snow, everything's covered in white-silver glitter, it's VERY quiet (except for the snow under the foot, that's loud), still and peaceful and the air is just cold enough to feel crispy fresh.

Don't worry. It's warm enough my hometown back North had to cancel the annual 5K cross-country ski race b/c there's no longer guaranteed snow in *January*. Trust me, climate change has made "up north" more like "middle". :-)

I live in Ar but work all over the us. It never fails. I end up working in Tx La or Ar during the summer and burn to death. Then end up in North Dakota or Nebraska in the winter and freeze. But I prefer the cold. I’ve had too many heatstrokes over the yrs.
