Ever Wondered What A Year-Old Banana Looks Like? Here Are 50 Interesting Posts Just Like That
Our universe is fascinating, there’s no doubt about it. But learning everything about everything that’s happening around us is, unfortunately, not possible, no matter how keen we are. Learning bits and pieces on different topics, though, is a lot more doable.
To encourage you to familiarize yourself with our universe just a little bit better, we have put together a list of all sorts of interesting pieces of information, as shared by the ‘Everythinginterestings’ Instagram account. Do you know what a hedgehog looks like when getting an X-ray? Or what happens to a cyclist’s leg after racing in the Tour de France? Chances are you weren’t interested in either before, but you ought to admit – you are a little curious now, aren’t you?
Well, if you are, what are you waiting for? Scroll down to find answers to both and much more below, where you will also find Bored Panda’s interview with professor of psychology at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, Dr. Noam Shpancer, who agreed to delve deeper into why we find certain things interesting.

Load More Replies...I also have mixed feelings about this. My brother took his own life. And, while my family and I were absolutely devastated, it was his choice to end 23 years of brutal suffering. He was born with a painful and visible disability and was outright rejected by society. The love of his parents and sister was not enough to make his life worth living. He tried, for us. But, in the end, letting him go was the most compassionate love we could give him. TLDR; not everyone appreciates being "saved" I hope this man helped with a little follow through and didn't just turn them over to authorities. Attempted suicides get incarcerated. So, most of these people are now hopelessly miserable and locked up in cages.

Ironic, I bet this man would be in favour of talking about suïcide, not censoring it.
I think the person who downvoted this didn't understand. Talking about s*****e, bringing out into the open as something that can be understood and prevented, is important and should not be censored. My little sister committed s*****e in 1989. It came out of the blue. If she had felt able to talk to someone about what was going on, she might still be here.

From what I read, she had to give the puppy up for adoption due to her dads new job. Then when she went to adopt a dog from a shelter when she was an adult, the dog ran up to her and started licking her face. They checked the microchip that the dog had and it was her!

Well this factory is in France, so they can only use natural coloring.

Even bees like M & M's. The company should use this in their advertising!
More interestingly is the fact that the honey was deemed as not fit for human consumption as it was contaminated by the artificial colors the bees ate from the factories bio waste from the M&M production. But M&Ms are considered safe for consumption..........🤦♂️
Created just last year, the ‘Everythinginterestings’ Instagram account already boasts more than 260 thousand followers who are looking forward to learning something new; even if it’s something completely random.
You probably know the feeling when you learn something new and random, yet surprisingly interesting. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you will delve any deeper into the topic, but you are happy to have familiarized yourself with it.
If you’re wondering why that is – why people are interested in learning bits and pieces of random information – professor of psychology at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, Dr. Noam Shpancer, notes that there are several reasons for that.
Gary Drostle’s “Fishpond” mosaic, is a renowned artwork that uses shadows to create a 3D effect, with “core shadows” shaping the koi fish and “cast shadows” linking them to the pond’s surface for realism.
Drostle, a celebrated mosaic artist, began this style with a 1996 commission for the London Borough of Croydon, later evolving the design by studying real koi ponds to capture water movement, as noted in his portfolio.
The use of shadows in mosaics, as highlighted, aligns with techniques described in mosaic guides, where artists avoid black or grey shadows, opting for darker background shades or complementary colors to enhance lifelike depth.
For that matter, what are core shadows? I mean, it looks like an image of koi in transparent water, casting shadows in the bottom of the pond, to me. What am I missing?

Talking about trivia and learning with Bored Panda, Prof. Shpancer emphasized that there are various reasons why people are interested in these things. “Human beings are curious, and we are a learning species. Our ability to learn is our claim to fame in the animal kingdom. We are inclined to enjoy knowing more than not knowing. We enjoy mastery,” he said.
“At the same time, we don’t like effort. Deep knowledge requires effort. Trivia satisfies this desire for learning and knowledge with minimum effort, so there’s an attraction there. Situational circumstances also factor into this equation. If others are doing it; and more so if others are rewarded for it – then you’re likely to become interested, too.”
That's -31 in "Freedom Units". There's a point where the units don't matter anymore and it's around -40. -40F=-40C.

Load More Replies...I'm a Bear; among my dearest friends is a Fox. (Scouters will know the reference.)
Really? I don't want to be disrespectful but can you cite some background please?
Load More Replies...Now that you know the reasons, you might be wondering what determines the extent to which a person is interested in learning something new, which is also a complex issue.
“Important outcomes in life are multi-determined. There is always more than one cause for how things turn out. Your interests are shaped by a combination of genetics, personality disposition, cultural and environmental conditions, personal experience, and luck,” Dr. Shpancer explained.
Let me preface this that it was the 80's... But two of my favorite pets growing up were guinea pigs and we didn't know how social they were and only had one at a time. Meep. I STILL feel terrible about it. Also some alpaca are into hugs... They're very sweet animals. Or can be? (Can say same about people)
Generally speaking all pet/livestock animals do better in pairs at the minimum and suffer loneliness if kept alone. Also they groom one another and look after each other so it is easier to look after a pair than and individual. Obviously some particular individuals are different.
They're well known for making mid-day meals too...how many times have you heard, "Alpaca lunch."
That's cool until you realize that these guys put Rudolph out of a job.
They did this as an experiment in 2014, which didn't work out because the paint didn't last long. Therefore, it is not true that it's actively done here in lapland.
So do the reindeer not have any enemies - besides humans in cars ? Also, I can imagine it didnt last long because they rubbed it off to get rid of light.
Load More Replies...This is too similar to the giant Greenpeace f**k-up in the late 80s when they spray painted baby seals to make their fur worthless to fur hunters, thus destroying their natural camouflage and serving them up to polar bears. The whole ecosystem swung out of balance: more baby fur seal died than before, polar bear cub numbers went way up the following year, then they starved to death when the spray painting stopped. Painting an animal because we are too stupid not to kîll them is not a solution. They have evolved the way they are for a reason. We need to change US not THEM.
"have had their antlers painted" makes it sound like the reindeer actively sought for someone to paint their antlers. "Say, your antlers look great, who is your antler painter?"
This reminds me of a scene from an Abbott and Costello movie. Costello: "We were hunting for deer." Abbott: "Reindeer?" Costello: "Not yet, honey."
It is to make it easier for you to write moronic comments.

Be it browsing random facts or diving completely into one topic, curiosity also plays a significant role when it comes to learning. According to Dr. Shpancer, it’s our existential position to be curious. Just look at children, for instance; they tend to have many reasons to be afraid of things, but they are usually more curious than afraid, the expert noted.
Curiosity often wins, and that’s because the “story of our species is a story of chasing our curiosities.”

Prof. Shpancer continued to point out that learning is a good exercise for your brain, but there’s a caveat. “The brain and body are ‘use it or lose it’ propositions,” he said. “So to the extent that learning trivia exercises your brain, then it is a helpful habit.
“Some familiarity with diverse fields can be helpful, so long as you don’t mistake some familiarity for expertise. You may look at it this way: some people are ‘neon lights’ – they have shallow knowledge across a broad area. Others are ‘laser beams;’ they derive meaning and satisfaction from developing deep focused expertise in one area to the exclusion of all others. My guess is that diversity is healthy here. We need both kinds.”
Workers in the USA have no idea how badly they are being screwed.
😱…and McDonald’s doesn’t abandon the country because it is forced to treat workers well? It’s almost as if all the excuses given that we cannot raise minimum wage and working standards are just garbage!

Because they don't do it voluntarily in Denmark. There are laws that require every employer...I mean, because evil communists in Europe hate liberty and force employers and people with superior birthrights to treat the poor-born classes somewhat like...humans?

While learning something new everyday can be good for you, you shouldn’t make it a chore. Asked about this, Prof. Shpancer noted that he personally doesn’t agree with giving people strict, rigid, and narrow rules for living.
“I don’t think you need to learn something new every day – unless this is what you want and choose to do,” he said. “As a general principle, however, spending time and energy regularly and intentionally learning new things is a healthy life habit.”

This happened to a tree while I was standing RIGHT NEXT TO IT. It remains to this day one of the loudest noises I've ever heard. I nearly jumped out of my skin. I wasn't hurt but the tree died.
Sitting in a soccer stadium in Virginia and we're on rain delay, lightening struck the center of the field. Loudest sound I have ever heard, followed by a few seconds of absolute silence from the onlookers. Makes you feel very insignificant...
I followed the aftermath of a lightning strike on a parking lot light to the ground, across the lawn, into the building, passed quality surge suppressors and across the motherboard on three different computers.

Load More Replies...Yes, and no. This pic originates from a 4 year old Daily Mail article. This isn't a 'remote' tribe, it's from a well travelled area. The article has a lot of photos and it's obvious that while the tribe does traditional things, it also is very much main stream. There are people with red and blue dyed hair, and a lot of the photogs dressed them up to appear more "tribal" and beautiful. So while the pic is real, the description is not entirely true.
This photo is from 1997, the girl is 22. The photographer went back and took another photo of her when she was 39. He had to travel to a city at the edge of the Amazon then take an 8 hour boat ride to reach her remote village. Her name is Penhá Goez, you can look up the story.

The North Sentinel Island tribe near India has been known to k**l people for visiting the island. As such, the Indian government forbids travel there in order to protect the tribe as well as aspiring visitors, especially the former.
The people living on what we call the North Sentinel islands are, from what I've read, also peaceful and just want to be left alone. From what I've read, the only times they've k!lled outsiders is when the outsiders have been daft enough to continue to intrude when they've been warned off.

Load More Replies...My neighbour did something similar on his farmhouse, but then used plastic water tanks to store the water. They lasted maybe five minutes before melting when the last fire came. Just enough to dampen and save the main house. Uses steel tanks now.
That looks horrible and extremely painful. After the race, do they just knock him out and then massage his legs?
It's a rider named Janez Brajkovic about 10 months after the2018 tour, while he was dealing with bulimia. It's from the front, but here's a picture of 2023's top three, along with a picture of Brajkovic on 2020 untitled-6...e8c0cf.jpg
May I ask how you were able to post a pic in your comment? I've been unable to figure it out. Thank you!

When I was young, French currency included small aluminium coins that you could blow out of your hand!
I remember those. They felt like plastic to me, and weighed practically nothing.
Oh, the racists had a field day when he was included as a character in Assassin's Creed
Yasuke was part of the court of Nobunaga and had the honoured carrying Nobunagas weapons. Quite an honour indeed at that time. There is very little real history about him (just a few pages). The whole "he must have been a Samurai" thing was popularised by an US historian who has a flair for "extrapolating heavily" apparantly. But by the strict definition Yasuke was probably not a samurai since you needed a household and lands to hold the title by thecrules of thevtome iirc. Partbofvthe court, yes, and in an honorable position? Absolutely. Warrior? Also true afaik. It's too bad that we will never know for sure, but much documentation was lost. There was a quite nice anime that went with the idea, though. I'd suggest watching that instead of playing the game since, disregarding the controversy, isn't that good. To bad, I really liked the older AC games when they did bother to get things accurate regarding the setting.
Then it would likely surprise you that for most of its existence it had a giant "CITROEN" in bright lights emblazoned on it!

You can. You'd need to rehydrate the banana somehow, and I definitely would not recommend eating it, but you could make it

A wall one brick wide would fall over if it were straight. You have to go three or four bricks wide to make the wall stable. Or you can snakerail it. It's like how corrugated sheet metal is stronger than flat sheet metal.
Crinkle-crankle walls are mostly found in Sussex and East Anglia. Building like this allows for stronger walls with curves acting as buttresses. So single brick width construction saved a lot of money at a time when bricks were heavily taxed.
Each little curve zone creates a microclimate, so if you plant fruit trees in them on the side facing the sun, they'll survive frosts better

wrong. This is the clock of the Elizabeth Tower. Big ben is a bell inside the tower, not the tower itself
If I'm not mistaken, this is at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, UK. Amazing place, with some really stunning exhibits.

Load More Replies...Gold is really heavy, hence it sinks to the bottom of rivers and can be panned out as you can wash away the lighter sand/silt. Source: Dated a competition gold panner and got dragged to too many national/world championships. Competition pans are usually flat and ridged. Competitors are given a bucket of sand & gravel containing an unknown number (but same for all) between 8 & 12 tiny pieces of gold (think slightly smaller than a poppy seed). They can pan them out and get them into a phial and cap it in less than a minute. Time penalties for any missed.
I had no idea there were competitions! That's amazing! I live near a smallish theme park in California, USA (Knott's Berry Farm) and one of the "attractions" is a "pan for gold"-themed game. Next time I'm in the park I'll have to ask the workers if any of them have competed XD

This is an old story that goes as far back as Mao and out of curiosity, I checked Snopes and yep they still do this in the 21st century.
Lots of incorrect comments here. Clearing it up: The military does not make the soldiers do this, the soldiers do this so they can remain at attention. It's a trick, their choice. The only thing the military does is make them stand at attention. If you know anything about world military, you'll know these type of tricks are common the world over.
The soldiers don’t put them there themselves. This is “a corrective measure for soldiers whose postures aren't up to standards. Photos show their instructors holding threads as rifle guides, or sticking needles in soldiers’ shirt collars, pointed at their necks, to correct poor posture.” Let’s normalize looking things up before we try to correct others 😁 https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/posture-pins-chinese-officers/

Load More Replies...The Aquamen are a performance art duo from the Netherlands, known for their unique and often bizarre street performances. Their most iconic act involves wearing fishbowls on their heads, each containing live fish. The absurdity and surreal nature of the act draw attention from the public, turning ordinary spaces into stages for unexpected art performances.
The group tends to emphasize a sense of absurdity and strangeness in their performances, challenging traditional expectations of public space and art. Their work has been described as both whimsical and thought-provoking, using minimal props-like the fishbowls-to create surreal, sometimes unsettling, experiences. Through these performances, they encourage people to think about the environment, human interactions, and the often strange intersection of art and everyday life.
While the fishbowls have been a signature element, their work isn’t limited to just that. The Aquamen’s acts are designed to spark curiosity, wonder, and sometimes confusion, making passersby pause and question the meaning behind what they are seeing.
The group isn’t just focused on shock value; they often explore themes of human nature, vulnerability, and the absurdity of modern life, offering a form of performance that blends street theater with deeper social commentary.
So they're committing animal cruelty and calling it "art", like that creep who was going to crush a live pet rat to death with a brick live on stage. (The audience was outraged. They rushed the stage, beat him up, and Sniffy the rat was rescued).
Is there an article I can read about that? /gen (dont want to seem sartastic but thats interesting and sad)

by Glico, known for its playful yet eerie transformation. It starts with a cheerful smiley face on top, created using fruit or chocolate sauce injected into the ice cream. However, as you eat, the design distorts, often forming unsettling or horror-like shapes.
This unintentional effect has fascinated consumers, turning Panapp into a unique treat that surprises with every bite. While some find it amusing, others see it as mildly creepy. Despite this, its delicious flavors and fun presentation make it a beloved dessert in Japan, enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
It only turns into a creepy face if you carve it out that way with your spoon
No they're not. I just checked with a dropper tool. The blue and red ones are actually closer than you'd think (like, the dropper is showing that they're basically the same color but the blue ones are grey? I don't know the words to explain this), but the green ones really are a completely different color.
I just found the original image. Looks like this one is just messed up because of poor image quality or something. In the original, yup, they really are all the same color: https://kottke.org/21/05/all-these-balls-are-the-same-color
I checked with the dropper, and they're definitely the same colour, just different shades.
