These 50 Pics Prove That We’re In The Middle Of A Selfishness And Entitlement Epidemic (March Edition)
Interview With ExpertIt’s not wrong to want something more from life. This desire often drives people to grow, have a successful career, and build an overall better life for themselves. However, when a person expects special treatment just for existing, they are already stepping into the entitlement zone where they put their own needs before anyone else’s, doing a huge disservice to those around them.
Just like these people in the list, whose entitlement went through the roof this month. Scroll down to find the worst instances of selfish people lacking self-awareness, and don’t forget to upvote those that desperately need a reality check.
While you're at it, make sure to check out a conversation with a mental health counselor and founder of A Braver Space, Gayle Clark, LCSW, and a marriage and family therapist, Dr. Paul Hokemeyer, as well as therapist and owner of Pathways Counseling KC, Laura Bonk, MA, LCPC, LPC, and behavioral relationship expert Tracy Crossley, who kindly agreed to tell us more about entitlement.

Some People Believe They Are Entitled To More Than They Are
If Only There Were A Sign, Or A Law, Or A Guideline
The dogs-in-grocery-stores problem is getting out of hand. Every time I go (not exaggerating) someone has a dog in their arms, in their cart, in a leash, etc.
Just because your pet gives you comfort, does not mean that it is an emotional support animal that should go with you everywhere. Once at Costco in Southern California I saw a Chihuahua on a leash bite the hand of a young child and draw blood. The kid was just minding his own business waiting in line for a hotdog. Obviously the dog did not want to be there, and the poor child was injured because of it.
I bet the poor child's parents sued the stuffing out of the dog owner and Costco.
Load More Replies...And they're not supposed to be in there because it's a health issue, but we found out how many people cared about THAT during Covid with the masks.
(Sorry for my bad english.) Last year there was two tourists who took their dog into one of our shopping centers, and there was clearly signs outside the shopping center that said No Dogs Allowed, Exept The Service Dogs. 😤😩🤬🙈
No need to apologise, your English is perfectly good! A lot better than some supposed native speakers with their emoji speak! 😂
Load More Replies...If ADA is going to mandate service dogs go everywhere they really need to regulate service dogs
I have a service dog. I would have no objection to requiring a doctor's statement that a dog is needed. It would be a logistical nightmare.
Load More Replies...I don't understand why people feel the need to take their dogs to the supermarket. Here in the UK only guide/service dogs are allowed in supermarkets which is fine, but I don't get why people go to the supermarket and leave their dog in the car cooking to death while they're doing their shopping. Just leave your dog at home ffs!
https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-2010-requirements/ https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-faqs/ Emotional support animals are NOT service dogs and DO NOT have public access rights; they are NOT allowed in non-pet-friendly public spaces. The number of "Emotional Support Animals" out and about that end up attacking real service dogs and rendering them non-functional is insane. Service dogs are extremely well-trained, with thousands of hours and dollars spent on a working dog to help disabled people. They are our lifelines, and having some A*hole's non-trained, aggressive emotional support animal destroy that is devastating in so many ways. Stay HOME with your pet
This is happening more frequently at my local shopping centre. There is a place outside to leave your dog with water but people are bringing their dogs inside. It is against the local laws unless the dog is an assistance animal. People are just becoming more entitled?
You mean service dog, not assistance animal. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, only dogs are allowed as service animals. The sole exception is miniature horses which may be used as guide animals for the blind.
Load More Replies...exactly and emotional support animals are not the same as trained service animals. not to mention when actual service animals are out with their owner and working, the owner will 9/10 times put on a vest that says "dont pet me, im working" or some variation thereof because their service animal needs to focus. i see a dog or any pet without a vest on, i just automatically think thats someones pet and they think rules dont apply to them.
Compared to some customers I've seen in stores, I'm pretty sure the dogs are more hygenic.
I'd rather see dogs in the grocery store than listen to toddlers having meltdowns, which happens a lot.
Same, unless the dog is being disruptive then why are they not allowed but toddlers are
Load More Replies...I'd rather see a pet on a leash/in someone's arms rather than being left in a hot car
They should leave their pet at home if they have errands.
Load More Replies...I don't even like taking my dogs to the vet. They're a******s in the car.
Where is it that everyone is bringing their non service dogs into a grocery store? I live in So.Cal and even I only see this at like Walmart once in a while.
Lifelong SoCal resident here. I worked at Sprouts for 2 1/2 years. People would stroll in with their dogs all the time. One regular would bring in his gigantic Belgian Malinois. Sweetest Mal I've ever met (other than mine, lol) and I loved petting that dog, but it still irritated me that people just felt entitled to walk into a grocery store with food/produce out in the open with their dogs that clearly were just pets. I used to be in my department and see people leaning over the produce with their little dogs in their arms and the dogs would be licking the produce and the people would be oblivious. I also see people in my local Ralphs puttering around with their Pomeranians or Chihuahuas in their arms or in their shopping carts all the time, too. Maybe it's my city in particular (Huntington Beach) but I see people in shops and stores with their absolutely-not-a-service-dog dogs all the time.
Load More Replies...I’ve never seen a dog in a grocery store. Full disclosure, I rarely go to the grocery store. Also my dogs misbehave terribly and it would just be stressful and embarrassing.
Yeah I only bring my dog into petco. He likes to pick out his own toys.
Load More Replies...Of all the times I've seen "service animals" in the store, only one was actually trained as a service animal. (It walked beside its person who held its leash in an open hand, did not acknowlege other people.)
In Spain pets are not allowed in most shops, specially in groceries, pharmacies, bakeries or health centers, and I personally have never seen a situation like this. Most people is pretty respectful with that. What is a problem is finding dog 💩 or peeing in the middle of the sidewalks or next to your building door... Some people are just uncivil 😠.
Emotional support animal is a legal term not just bc you like having your dog with you.
The only law that covers emotional support animals is the Fair Housing Act. ADA does NOT cover emotional support animals
Load More Replies...Oh, the vest thing. My dog Kee hated wearing clothes, other than a backpack on trails. When I took the backpack off it would be covered with hair. She was an incredibly smart and intuitive dog who diagnosed a long standing issue I’d been dealing with for years. She was known to sign to me that a person in a waiting room needed her even though other people wanted her. She was such a good dog and would rebuff people who treated or approached her inappropriately. One time I was paying at the grocery store and interacting with the clerk and I looked down and a woman was right in Kee’s face saying “give me a kiss” and making Kee really uncomfortable. I was horrified and told the woman that “Kee was not that kind of dog” and to leave her alone. A similar thing happened at a bar. My poor pooch. I had to move her under the (outdoor) picnic table to get away from him. She was half Alaskan Malamute and, IME they overheat easily.
I live in the springs and dogs and pets are pretty much Allowed everywhere. Maybe not legally, but they are everywhere. 🤷🏻♂️
I take my dogs everywhere, but they wait in the car for me. No way would I bring them into a grocery store. Or any store that said no.
Thank you for being considerate. I'm sure responsible pet owners know not to leave dogs in a hot car.
Load More Replies...They really need to start fining stores that don't enforce this law. My grocery store started putting up these signs a couple years ago, but few care. The worst part - the store I frequent is literally directly next door to my city's department of public safety and I can't remember a time I haven't seen uniformed deputies, firefighters, or EMTs walking through the store not to mention I'm sure many plainclothes officials.
The fanatics that come cruising down the sidewalk with their dogs in carriages expecting everyone to get out of the way are the BESSSSSSSST!!!!
Real support animals have specifically color-coded harnesses and/or leashes. Look it up.
You look it up. There is no such regulation in the United States. And it's service dogs, not support animals, which have public access rights.
Load More Replies...I take my dogs everywhere I go lol litterally , I live out in the sticks n I’m housebound , oh hold on lol I’m allowed to as the only time I go anywhere is to take them TO THE VETS ! so kinda have to right 🤔shops however even when I could handle shops( walking is to painful n I don’t like people ) or even go to em my dogs STAYED AT HOME dogs unless they are service animal ligit ones not made up ones , I could say about mine cos they are in someways but dogs do not belong in shops ! Pubs yes our do go there with my two kids (don’t judge lol they work there ) but that’s it
I have a service dog who goes with me everywhere. For a while I was seeing other dogs in the grocery store I go to, they were quickly found out due to behavior and now the only dog there on a regular basis is mine. I have seen a service dog there a couple of other times. Every time I see the manager he compliments me on my dog's behavior. OK, so she's super at her job, saved me more than once, and I will hate on anyone who brings pets to stores. Except pet stores.

"A sense of entitlement shows up when people have a belief that they are somehow inherently deserving of special treatment," says mental health counselor and founder of A Braver Space, Gayle Clark, LCSW.
Some signs of entitlement that she mentions include:
- Lack of empathy—struggling to consider other people’s feelings or perspectives.
- Unrealistic expectations—expecting special treatment, even when it's not earned.
- Difficulty accepting “No”—reacting poorly to being denied something and sometimes resorting to anger or manipulation.
- Rule-breaking—thinking that rules apply to others but not to oneself.
- Complaints—complaining about being poorly treated or victimized and blaming others when things don't go their way.
- Rarely saying thank you—not acknowledging help, sacrifice, or kindness from other people.

Entitled Customer Gets Instant Karma At The Coffee Shop
Marriage and family therapist Dr. Paul Hokemeyer adds that usually, the most apparent sign of all of them that a person is entitled is being highly demanding.
"They feel like they deserve the best of everything, the best table at a restaurant, the best designer accessories, the highest and most prestigious awards. They demand special treatment. They get incensed if they have to wait in a queue or be a part of the challenges of humanity," he explains.
"They also are highly emotional and can easily become unhinged and histrionic when they don't get what they feel they deserve. In my clinical practice, I refer to these clients as having very thin skin. They see nearly everything that even remotely challenges them as a personal affront, and they act out as if they sustained the most egregious insult if their unreasonable and undeserved expectations are unmet."

The entitlement mentality can come from a variety of places. The most common one is childhood. "If a child receives everything they want from their parents/caregivers during their childhood and is rarely told "No," this can cause a sense of entitlement," says therapist and owner of Pathways Counseling KC, Laura Bonk, MA, LCPC, LPC.
When parents give in to children's tantrums and don't teach them to work for what they want, they might start lacking resilience and expect to receive everything they desire in life without any effort.
"Our culture of instant gratification [also] definitely plays a big role in creating entitled individuals and an entitled culture overall," Bonk adds.

Entitlement can also be a characteristic of some diagnosable personality disorders, says Clark, in particular, narcissistic personality disorder.
"It can also be seen in different ways in people with borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or dependent personality disorder. There are many people who don't meet the criteria for a diagnosis but may still exhibit narcissistic traits. While it may appear that someone who is entitled thinks highly of themselves, from a mental health perspective, entitlement is often linked to deep-seated insecurity, a fear of rejection, and low self-worth," she explains.

All these dickheads are well past the safety lines. They are there for a reason, beyond that, it is disrespectful to come to a place of beauty like Hawaii and be that self entitled. Hawaiians are inviting you and allowing you in to their beautiful territory, Be Pono, not ōpala.
Can you fine them, say $20.00 per person for ignoring the safety lines? Enough people see you writing tickets for these curious people, it might keep them from doing the same thing.

Naturally, the behaviors that entitled people exhibit affect people around them, too. "You know you are in the presence of an entitled person if you feel constantly on edge, constantly wondering if anything you say will offend them," says Dr. Hokemeyer.
"Entitled people are draining. They make you feel emotionally diminished and physically exhausted. They can also evoke strong feelings of anger and resentment. This is due to their projecting airs of superiority over those around them, a superiority I hasten to add that is not justified by any measure. In sort, you feel invisible, devalued, irritated and angry around them."

Customer Took The Filling Out Of Every Purse She Looked At, And Brought It All To The Front
I don't know why people are like this, if you are looking at a purse and they have stuffing in it please put it back. She had it in her cart and I put it all in a bag, I'm going to double check with my manager if she wants to hunt down some purses that need filling. We leave them in because it gets things on the shelf quicker and they look better filled. To kick me while I'm down, she didn't even buy a single purse all she bought was a pair of pants.
Please don't do this, do not be this person.
Same with shoes. They have the paper/filling in them for a reason. If you are trying shoes on and put the paper/filling back in them once you are done with them. Even if you are going to buy them. Take the filling home and dispose them yourself. Don't leave it for the store to get rid of it.
"Entitled people can be difficult to be around and hard to maintain healthy relationships with," adds Clark. "There are often higher levels of conflict, as they refuse to compromise or take responsibility for their actions. It can be emotionally draining to feel that you constantly have to attend to an entitled person, leaving you feeling drained, used, or manipulated.
Over time, entitlement can lead to resentment and an imbalanced relationship, with one person feeling like they are giving so much more. Accommodating the needs of an entitled person can cause stress, exhaustion, or emotional withdrawal, much like burnout."

That Car Is A Good Enough Reason To Take Up 2 Spots? Seriously?
If a person notices that the entitlement of others is affecting them in these ways, there are measures they can take to deal with it.
Behavioral relationship expert Tracy Crossley suggests trying out the following ones:
- Be honest about everything—from keeping expectations in check about what you are willing or not willing to do to saying how you really feel. Saying how you really feel without blaming them is to maintain your own sense of worth (people who are entitled will trample you if allowed to).
- Stop worrying about their sense of entitlement and instead focus on why another person's wants supersede what you want for yourself.
- Look at the value of your interactions with them; is this a person you want to spend time with? If you feel you have no choice, then practice self-awareness when the conversation starts to go to their expectations, either state that you don’t wish to talk about it or shift the focus of the conversation, or leave.

He will never forgive you or forget this for this as long as he lives, and will probably mention it in your eulogy.
"Handling entitled people is a big effort, and one of the first steps is to realize that it is very unlikely that you will be able to change them," notes Clark. "Entitlement continues because, very often, it works for people—they don't necessarily have an incentive to change."
So the best thing to do would be to limit engagement with that person," says Dr. Hokemeyer. "To the extent that's impossible, work on setting personal boundaries around them. To be effective, these boundaries need to be clear, consistent, and enforceable. Your responsibility is to your self-care and peace of mind," he concludes.
In A Packed Tube, A Woman Prioritised Her Dog To Get A Seat Instead Of People Who Were Standing
The tube can be frustrating as it is, where people really push past you to get a seat without any consideration.
But this shocked me, there were 5-6 people standing on the right, and this Ms prioritised her dog getting a seat (also it was early in the morning, everyone going to work). Is this not getting out of hand? Shocking how much people lack empathy in this city sometimes.

Load Your Damn Groceries Like The Rest Of Us
This has been an increasing problem at my local Costco. Hit a peak version of it so I wanted to get some second opinions/am I the a*****e.
At this Costco some shoppers wait at the door while someone else fetches the vehicle so they can load, as shown, in front of the door.
This picture is poor, but there are three in a row all in the process of loading, all loading baskets of regular household purchases - by this I mean no large bulky items, no furniture, nothing they are getting assistance with from staff.
This choice is inexplicable to me, causes mayhem with traffic both vehicular and pedestrian, and feels like “I am the main character” energy. It was obnoxious to get in the doors this day, complete cart traffic jam.
I don’t get it. Am I missing something? Considering a complaint in to the local store and I wanted to calibrate against the community as I might be “more Karen than correct” this time?
I could be wrong but they are parking in a no parking zone. If there was an emergency, they could be hindering emergency vehicles from doing there job. They could also be fined for that.

My Mom Ate My Clearly Labeled Food And Then Lied About It
I would like to start by saying I cook all the time. I also buy and share food all the time. She very rarely does either of those things, but whatever I can feed myself. She lets me stay rent free while I’m in college so I figure it works and I can pitch in that way. Anyways, this time I didn’t want to share so I very clearly labeled my food. I come home to eat the food I was looking forward to all day to find this is all she left me. She then tried to blame my grandpa. He has had three strokes and is 86 and does not eat that much. So I tell her I know good and well he did not eat it. I show her it was very clearly labeled “No”. She then lies again and says she didn’t see the label. There is no way she didn’t see the label. Ugh.

The Entitlement Of Drivers Towards Disabled Pedestrians Is Absolutely Revolting
When I, a wheelchair user, tried to get to my bus stop I had to go around this car on the grass. The driver then came over to get stuff out of it and when I told them it's illegal to park there they told me that because they couldn't find parking (there is a park nearby) they had to park like that because they work nearby. They explicitly told me they don't care that they affected my ability to use the footpath.
Drivers in Australia feel like they are entitled to every piece of infrastructure and if anything is built for someone who doesn't want to or can't drive it's something being taken from them, something that they should be able to use at our expense.
