Yes, he called it like it was. I feel bad for the children of these “fools” too, because these so called childhood diseases are much more severe, even deadly, if you catch them as an adult.

Absolutely - I came very close to dying of measles as a 3 year old in the UK in 1966. I think before the vaccination program was fully implemented. I cant understand why parents would risk NOT immunising in this day and age. Probably because they gamble that modern healthcare is now good enough to fix anything

I attended nursing school in the seventies. Half of my teachers were veteran nurses who served in WWII. I caught their enthusiasm and wonder that smallpox and polio would be eradicated in their lifetimes. Maybe even measles, mumps and rubella. Enter the anti-vaxxers and their willful ignorance and selfishness. Monumental ignorance and homicidal self centeredness. Words fail to express my disdain, my loathing for them. Please remove yourselves from our society. Feel free to be an incubator for pathogens somewhere in Antarctica away from research posts.

Well said. Roahld Dahl's daughter died of measles, and he wrote a poignant letter begging parents to vaccinate their children. Sadly, it is still relevant: http://time.com/3692439/roald-dahl-measles-letter/

Another thought - if they developed an anti-cancer vaccine - would people refuse it for their children?

onemessylady avatar

There IS an anti-cancer vaccine and parents ARE refusing it for their children. The HPV vaccine covers the four most common viruses that are responsible for almost ALL cases of cervical and uterine cancer in girls and mouth, throat and, penile cancer in men. These vaccines consist of three shots over the course of several months and provide lifelong protection for kids. ... Parents would rather see their kids die than vaccinate them. The reason? It would “make” their kids have sex. Do they really think their kids are that stupid?

I do wonder - if people dont vaccinate because a disease is almost non-existant where they live - do they then take the children to exotic holiday locations where the risk is so much higher??

Yes. A “missionary” from an antivax megachurch in Grapevine Texas returned from Africa and was responsible for over 20 kids getting measles and a couple of them dying. The church changed its policy, too late. I think that man should be in prison for manslaughter - and the idiot parents should be charged with attempted murder and assault, losing custody of their kids permanently. ... There’s a law on the books in Canada that makes it a crime to “willfully spread an infectious disease”. Sometimes I wish those laws would be enforced.

Condolences, dude, condolences. The only thing even remotely "bad" about vaccination is that it stings for literally one millisecond. GET. YOUR. KIDS VACCINATED. I don't know any way to say it better. JUST VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN. ITS NOT THAT HARD.

I don't know what you tried to say with that comment, but anyways you just proved the logic behind of obligatory vaccinations against certain diseases, which then prove the so-called herd immunity, which agains prevents people from dying to those diseases.

THANK YOU! Everyone I know in my elementary school was vaccinated back in the 90's and we had no autistic kids and no one developed it! I only met a single autistic kid when I was 15 from another town whose dad fathered him in his 60's... and every single person I know is vaccinated.

The journal article that stated that autism was caused by medical vaccines was scientifically refuted and the authors were found to be on the dole for someone. I can't remember who, but I am sure a quick search will bring it up. Its unfortunate that so many believed such a lie in such a short time.

There is something causing autism. The anti-vaccine people should be focusing on trying to find it, instead of believe a made-up story. There are pesticides and herbicides, and there is BPA that have not been ruled out as causing developmental disorders. And rather than 6 doses, children are getting doses with nearly everything they eat.

You saw kids die daily from Measles? When was this? Where did you practice ? There was only 1 death from measles in all of Kenya in 2018. " In 2018, measles outbreaks were reported in Kenya. A total of 404 cases were reported from January 2018 to Mid-September 2018. Among these cases, 20 (5.0%) were laboratory confirmed and 1 death (CFR=0.2%). The cases were reported in five counties; Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Nairobi and Kitui. " http://www.afenet.net/index.php/news/news/471-kenya-feltp-response-to-measles-outbreak-in-mandera-county

Unfortunately they believe they are saving their children's lives by not vaccinating. There will always be a few who have a bad reaction. They are taking that as evidence against vaccines. Only something bad happening to them personally will make them change their minds and then it is too late.

Unvaccinated individuals who have contracted a preventable disease kill! Do your research. You will find a lot more support for this claim that your previous one. Or maybe talk to a parent that lost a child due to contracting a disease from an unvaccinated child who was too young to be vaccinated how they feel about optional vaccination. I bet their response would not be as nice as this.

"First world parent who don't vaccinate are spoiled fools." No, first-world parents just know that, with proper nutrition and a healthy immune system (both lacking in most third-world countries), measles has an almost-zero chance of developing any complications. And they also know that any doctor who presumes to force any medical procedure on his patients is a Fascist.

This is Roald Dahl describing his daughter's death from measles "but even now, if a child with measles happens to develop the same deadly .... measles [encephalitis] as Olivia did, there would still be nothing the doctors could do to help her." Children still die from measles, and they still die from whooping cough. Most importantly, they don't have to suffer through this diseases, or put their lives at risk, and vaccines protect other children

I don’t get why everyone hates anti-vaxxers so much. It’s their own choice, and they can have their reasons. I still think they are a little spoiled, but just like it’s people’s own choice to have abortions, they can do whatever they want with their body.

They are not affecting their own bodies. They are exposing all the other children who are then exposed needlessly to diseases that could kill them. Not vaccinating children results in the resurgence of epidemics like measles and whooping cough--that kill.

And then they drop their kids like trash when they can't handle something. Parents like that should be ashamed of themselves and never allowed a moment's happiness.

YESSS!!! I'm an aspie. So is my son. We suspect my husband is as well (that's why we get along so well - we understand each other's quirks). Vaccines do NOT cause autism. Even if they did, I would not trade my aspie struggles for whooping cough, rubella, measles, or any other disease I've been vaccinated against. I am a bright thread in the tapestry of life. I am different, and I am worthy.

Holding hands is very powerful. My brother was in an accident far away from home. Nurses in the hospital came everyday to talk and hold his hand. My brother, big man, said it was the kindness that kept him fighting and recovering. Most of the time we are afraid of touching. We shouldn't.

Yes, it is so important. I was in the or, leaned over the surgical table getting a spinal tap done for the first time. I was so scared, and the nurse put my head on her chest and stroked my back and told me kind things. I was so shocked at the comfort i took from her gesture. I felt like I was with my own mom.

When my Fallcon was admitted to hospital the last time, he asked me "are these the ladies who are going to help me die?" and then he said "thank you" to them. That's a rough job to have, but I know he died with as much dignity as they could give him.

I read somewhere that the reactions of people in an emergency call on a Bell curve. 10% of people in an emergency are able to take charge and direct the needed response efforts. 80% will cooperate with what the leaders tell them to do. The last 10% will blindly panic and will sometimes interfere with rescue efforts. Nobody knows how they will respond in an emergency until they are in the middle of one. This is why first responders, medical people and the military train so much. They are least likely to be the ones who panic, but they train so that their training will take over if the mind fails them initially.

i have read something similar a while back - a father came in to find his child crying - with a head injury and both the child and the dog covered in blood - the father shot the dog. All the blood belonged to the dog which had gashed it's foot. the child had slipped in the dog's blood on the floor and cut his face

i am so sorry Chris. You got an award because you did not give up on a Person that gave up on herself. That was very very brave of you, to fight for someone who had no fight in him left. I am sure it made a difference, at least for the Family knowing you were theretrying your darndest, i am sure they would tell you so if they knew how you felt. Thank you for what you did.

Wow. This hits close to home. My second boy was born with fluid in his forehead, between the brain and the skull. He had surgery when he was just 4 months old. I was 27, dad was 26. We were kids, turned grownups. He'll be graduating kindergarten and turning 6 yo on December 9th. FOREVER THANKFUL FOR DOCTORS AND NURSES. Thank you for telling your story :)
