50 Times People Embarrassed Themselves Because They Didn’t Realize Who They Were Talking To
InterviewThere’s something so sweet about seeing a smartass getting off their high horse. And the subreddit “Don't you know who I am?” is giving us a rare glimpse into multiple such occasions. Created on the 21st of June, 2015, the community has grown to 429,000 members who play a part in collecting all the internet’s “gotcha’s!” gone wrong.
“This is a place for instances of people not realizing who they're talking to is who they're talking about,” says the description, and you must already know what to expect. Like, the embarrassing moment when a recruiter rejects a job candidate and sends him some “write-ups to study to get an understanding of the process” only to find out that those were written by that very candidate.
The level of cluelessness in this post is dangerously high, but this is what makes it particularly funny. So, buckle up, we’re about to feast on some hand-picked Don't you know who I am?’s.

Telling A Doctor To Educate Herself
Why do people just assume that their kids having autism is worse than them dying? Which would you rather have? Plus, she’s right! Vaccines DON’T cause autism!
So much this. I have come across more than one family who refuse to have thier child assessed for autism or to facilitate thier neuro diverse needs becuase they dont want the child to be "labelled" and "s/he just needs to learn" and "i refuse to accept there is anything wrong with him/her". Of course there is nothing wrong with your kid, but you are doing them a disservice by not learning about and supporting thier needs - and you begin this by assessing what thier needs are. Autism is not a death sentence.

If you ever get the opportunity to debate an anti-vaxxer in person, I highly recommend telling them you’re unvaccinated and have Asperger’s. Their reaction in priceless.
Load More Replies...As someone with mild autism, I can say it's hurtful to see people think something is wrong with me just because I can't handle some things, like social situations, as well as others. I understand some autistic people need lots of help in life, but all of us could go without being told it's because of vaccines.
Flitterbug, thank you so much for your input!! Your perspective is incredibly important and remember, ALL of us need help!! Flitterbug, you are perfect and loved!!
Load More Replies...For pro-life antivaxxers: not vaccinating your children is abortion with extra steps.
I think that if some is stupid enough to not vaccinate their children and their children catch whatever preventable disease and infect someone else and that person dies, then the stupid parent, the one who would not vaccinate their child, should be charged, at least, with manslaughter.
If vaccines caused autism, then why weren’t there mass cases of autism when vaccines first started against smallpox in the 18th Century? There are a number of vaccines available that make life so much easier for us. You can get a vaccine to ward off the Plague in places where it still exists. When was the last case of polio? Measles was all but eradicated in the US until these morons started their vaccines cause autism BS. People are utterly selfish.
The vaccine autism link only came about because of a study by Andrew Wakefield about the triple vaccine, MMR. He lied for financial gain. He was struck off. However, the harm was done and people got scared. At the time it was understandable, it needed checking and it was, so it isn't understandable anymore when the facts are very clearly known and easy to find (published results from studies). Since then it has been proven to be rubbish numerous times. This doesn't seem to penetrate some people's thick skulls.

Most of today’s artists have degrees in their field (music, theatre), a liberal arts degree or some other such. Many have masters or higher. There was a Reddit video that was a compilation of guys doing dumb stuff. I made a joke about this being why women lived longer. This idiot dude had the nerve to say “no, it’s bc men go to war.” I spent 6 years in the military during a war... (p.s. I’m a woman).
So it was during a war not in a war. So was I. Maybe he didn't think your joke was funny. Even though his response was not well thought out.

To find out more about the “Don’t You Know Who I Am” subreddit, Bored Panda reached out to its moderator u/Acoustag, who took over as a head moderator around a year ago since the team at the time didn’t have time to maintain the subreddit any longer. u/Acoustag is now in charge of day-to-day operations of the subreddit.
“At the moment, we average around 20 new posts per day, but usually half or less of those actually get approved,” he said. Turns out, the sub had an issue with mass reposting of content in the past, but the mod team has now solved that.
Meanwhile, they try to keep the content fresh. “Certain niche subreddits like ours definitely struggle for new content, though. There are only so many 'Don't You Know Who I Am?' interactions happening each day,” u/Acoustag explained.

Load More Replies...I love all the people who dislike this Pope for being too liberal and loving. Ya know, actually trying to act like Jesus. The irony.
I was listening to the (very interesting) podcast You're Wrong About the other day and there was an episode about the 'American Taliban' John Walker Lindh. One interesting note was that, pre-9/11, this young American from a Christian family found Islam and went to Yemen to learn Arabic and his parents were pretty supportive. At the time, the parents were happy that he had found religion and didn't see Islam as being so different to Christianity. Which it isn't, in many ways.
It is not at all, just some customs. Religions bind people and make them come together. But just like two sports clubs basicly do the same thing, they will still be rivals about who's the best.
Load More Replies...I'm always annoyed at people who are mad at the Pope for being kind. Bruh. If you're a Christian you're supposed to be kind. (I'm not religious btw) I'm pretty sure it's in the Bible somewhere.

Turns out that the viral “Tony Hawk” posts where people don't recognize the legendary skater were the ones that inspired the whole “Don’t You Know Who I Am” concept.
“They definitely started it all for me. Tony holds a special place of reverence in the heart of our community. Just google 'Tony Hawk not recognized Twitter' and you'll find tales of many confused strangers suggesting that Tony Hawk must be related to the skateboarder, Tony Hawk. Or Tony Hawk looks like the skateboarder, Tony Hawk. It's all so ridiculous.”
The overall content in the subreddit is best defined as "light-hearted fun," said the mod. “We're not looking to shame people for acting important, or to 'call them out' for not recognizing somebody important.”
Apparently Women In Science Can’t Be Real
This happens to women (especially to successful women and even more so to women successful in male-dominated fields) ALL THE F*****G TIME!!! Just a reminder if you ever feel like women and men are equal. We might be in terms of the law in many countries but we're far from being considered equal.

I had "the virus", so if you'd like it proven to you, I gladly would've spit in you drink. Fortunately for you, G Orlando, I've been clear for 3 weeks.
Having said that, some interactions can indeed get a little heavy. Like, “involving gender, race, religion, etc.—we aim to keep the discussion clean & civil, and remind our community that most posts here boil down to an 'Oops! I didn't realize!' moment.”
Today, the subreddit has loosened some of the posting rules to allow for more content (posts no longer require well-known people). At the same time, the team “cracked down on reposting rules due to karma-farming accounts. We've held polls in the past to see what changes the community would like to see, but everyone seems to like it as it is,” u/Acoustag concluded.

This doesn't belong amongst making a fool of himself if you ask me. This is a sweet way or recognising somebody, not realising person is said someone and isn't being overly awkward about it.
Years ago my cousin's husband was at Watkins Glen in the pit area. Someone asked him for a light, and he told that person, "Has anyone told you you look exactly like George Harrison?" Harrison said, "That's because I am". Struck us a very nice little friendship with a regular person.

A good ND (mine is fantastic) truly supports allopathic (regular) medicine and believes in using natural and homeopathic remedies as a supplement to it. There are many people out their claiming to be natural practitioners who are not part of their college
Thank you for saying this. Actual Naturopathic Doctors, who have earned an ND degree, are licensed and accredited physicians. They can do everything an MD can, including prescribing medication. In fact, they have as many hours of pharmaceutical education as MDs. Unfortunately, there are still some states in the US that choose not to regulate their medical professionals well, and that allows some people to call themselves "naturopaths" without any qualifications. Those people are charlatans. But actual NDs are well-educated, qualified medical practitioners. There is a huge difference.

He had no syllabus, no introduction, etc. it was an online class and my information merely had his first and last name. Wowza....still aced his stupid class, but what a pretentious jerk!

This sort of thing happens to me all the time. I work a job as a technician in a hospital. When I have patients who have an MD or a PhD, I call them "doctor," and if we get to chatting, I tell them if they want, they can call me "doctor," too, because I have a PhD in Religion. I don't work as a technician for fun. There are no jobs.

Old White Men In Black
Well, not everyone realizes that Ed Solomon wrote the screenplay for "Men in Black". Still, those people shouldn't have been rude to him. And, he was humble enough to apologize.
I'd go as far to say most people don't know know he wrote the screenplay. The issue is discrediting someone's opinion on the fact they're an old white male. I get that there are issues with people 'mansplaning' but those sort of people don't tend to offer their explanation first.

The people were unnecessarily rude. I love when people add their thoughts. Hubs and I were in a beverage shoppe looking at wines and an older man offered his advice. We were delighted. It was Harry Morgan, Colonel Potter from M*A*S*H*.
I would have politely vetted him first. Was he going to offer advice as the kindly Col. Potter, or as the insane Maj. Gen. Bartford Hamilton Steele?
Load More Replies...Being rude does not mean you are "more intelligent" or "more conversant" or "more anything" it just means you are rude. Mr. Solomon was the epitome of a gentleman, they were rude bullies.

From now on, if I even think a dude looks like Tony Hawk, I'm going to talk to him like I know exactly who he is! Throw him off for a day.LOL. If its not him, no harm done.
I used to set up car insurance policies for people. One lady wanted to add her big brother as an additional driver. His name was "Tony". I asked if that was his full first name as it appears on his licence (just to be safe, didn't want her getting caught out for a genuine mistake). Book People Reminiscing Words From Not-So-Book People
Nah, Al Pacino doesn't bug strangers. Fairly private, from what weve observed.
Why do people do this. Even if it was someone that could do with putting their phone down for once and reading a book, that's not how you're going to win them round, is it? It's just about making the speaker feel better about themselves at the expense of the person they're criticising.
When my car broke down and I had to wait two hours for recovery I resorted to reading a really good book - on my phone. People also need to stop assuming that just because it's tech that we're not using our brains or doing something worthwhile.

It's still an ongoing battle of Americans claiming that the USA has handled the pandemic much better than any other country in the world. Cold hard figures prove them wrong, time and time again, but somehow they are really focused on winning this "competition".
Actually, most of us know that our Government has handled this horribly especially compared to almost all other countries.

Telling A Marine To Ask A Marine
As a retired Marine with 22 years in service- only shitbirds care about being called a "Marine" by a civilian. However, if I, a Marine, referred to my Marines as troops? Different story.
I understand and appreciate your point. I guess I feel like once someone tells me that they don’t like to be called something, it is my responsibility to make an effort not to do it again, you know? So I actually appreciate this information.
Load More Replies...It can depend on the individual, however, as a Marine vet myself, I don't like being called a soldier. We are Marines, not soldiers. Our title is earned. I was once told that you can be a soldier in anyone's army of whatever, but Marines are something special. My experience has been that most Marines care & less don't care.

We Are Moving Forward With Another Candidate But Let Me Refer You Some Write-UPS That You Wrote Because I Can't Do Basic Research
In the reply, I don't know that it would jump out at the recuiter that he was saying he wrote that write-up. Saying " I am literally that guy" might just go over their heads and not even try to interpret it literally. Also, the horrible punctuation and grammar in the resonse would not lend itself to a message that the recruiter is likely to pour over in great detail. They would probably give it the briefest of glances and dismiss it without thought. Not a great comback on D's part.
Recruiter: “Thank you for apply” also “I wish you the best with YOU future applications”
Load More Replies...Yeah... this is just the same person writing to himself, to promote his website. The 'recruiter' and the 'applicant' both have bad grammar ('Thank you for apply'? 'You future applications'?) and don't put full stops at the end of their paragraphs. They also have trouble capitalising here and there when they should/shouldn't. It feels pretty obvious
Expecting recruiters to actually read your resumé is a bit optimistic, expecting that they actually know anything about your field of expertise is lunacy.
I was once employed as a butler and was tasked once with looking after the Queen. Standing out the front of Government House was a crowd of royalists awaiting Her Majesty. I had been for a run & was returning to work. As I moved through the crowds, looking dishevelled from the run, I was met with comments like "show some respect, get dressed, the Queen is coming". Safe to say they were very surprised when the gate was opened upon my arrival & I strolled straight through security.
I could tell so many places never actually freaking read my resume... The questions asked during the interview were often a tip off. So frustrating.

The concept of not recognizing someone's true identity or expertise, as highlighted in the subreddit "Don't you know who I am?", echoes similar themes of misunderstanding and mistaken assumptions seen in the story about the creative professional who was unexpectedly challenged despite his direct involvement. How Dare You Not Support Our Brave Nurses!
Not quite sure what clapping for the NHS accomplished anyway. They need actual help. The UK government offered £10, 000 to each of the MPs for "additional office costs" during the first Covid lockdown on top of the £26,000 MPs can claim to cover office costs. Apparently, it was for things like extra computers and printers, but in my humble opinion, the NHS needed it more.
They were offered the money to make sure they could support their constituents effectively during the lockdown. They did not ask for it and they did not have to take it if they didn't need it. It's a completely separate matter that didn't need bringing up here. In the early days there was a mad scramble across the world for PPE and our government got as much as it could as soon as it could. Like every other. Clapping for our carers was a shallow empty gesture considering the cases have risen and we passed 100k deaths in the UK today. If we'd really wanted to help them, the entire nation would have stuck to the rules and not been the selfish idiots some were.

Once had someone argue with me on IG that you couldn't see organs (specifically heart) on x-rays. Me, who went to college for 5 years to be an x-ray tech, which I've been for 15 years now.
I was at a convention once, sitting at a table next to the Dymocks Books stall, underneath a big poster which said "K.J.Taylor" and behind a nameplate which also said "K.J.Taylor". A guy came up to me and said "Hey, uh, is K.J.Taylor here?" I patted myself down and said "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm here!" I guess he was one of my readers who assume I'm a dude, because he looked really confused.
Couldn't finish reading them, I got sick of all the ignorant people who think they know all.
I did finish reading ...just so that I could convince myself that Im not as stupid as I usually think I am.
Load More Replies...My favorite one was from a triathlon forum I frequent. Usually its just average Joes & Jills talking about the sport and how to improve at it. Then I read this and it made me spit out my coffee I laughed so hard. Annotation...76-png.jpg
It seems like a legitimate question to me? “What’s your swimming history?” They probably didn’t know the person who was talking so they asked a question to find out more about them. What am I missing here?

Why is it when when actual scientists are talking about their flied on twitter, people say "You're not a scientist! Get a degree! Do some research!", yet when Karen posts about the dangers of vaccination ingredients, or how every country and industry in the world are working together on a COVID hoax and don't want the civilians to know the world is flat, they are all ears. I think there should be aptitude tests before people are allowed online,
