The government can be blamed for the atom bomb, since none of the people involved actually observed the effects first hand. I get irrational bouts of anger, disgust, and cynicism - not only from holocaust documentaries but from WW1 docus, too, and from watching the news, and from hearing people defend a leader invading another country (killing thousands, of course) because "he felt threatened and had to make a point", and so many other things that on the whole it's better for me to avoid the news and keep the docus to a minimum.

We can still feel compassion with the dead, injured and deeply altered people who have suffered under the bomb. Especially with a child who had nothing to do with any of the doings of adults.
