My maternal grandmother had this in the 1990s. I was a kid and watching her slowly díe was awful. When she got to the point that she couldn't take care of herself, we moved her into our house and my family took care of her, including us kids. I changed her diaper and sometimes had to clean the carpet when she would walk around the house and she'd "leak". It was awful when she started having difficulty swallowing and she couldn't eat normally or drink non-thickened liquids (there's a special powder you can mix into liquids to make them thick for people with swallowing difficulties.) She would sometimes choke horribly on food. When I was 12 or 13, she díed in our house from respiratory failure - the muscles that controlled her breathing eventually stopped working one night. It's a terrible disease.

I don't find it so sad. This was a well loved toy that reflects the ingenuity of its maker. Whatever their circumstances, this family ensured their child had a toy to call their own.

Of course Jaxon's life matters, which is why I said I do not propose or favor eugenics. However, my points about the parents' other children (if they have them) still stand, and my points about the child's need for 24/7 care for the rest of their life, even if they live into adulthood, also still stand. I also didn't say he deserves to die. I said (well, implied) that parents may wish to consider abortion when the scans reveal such a profoundly-disabling condition in the fetus, as the child's quality of life will be nil and the family's suffering may be quite deep and painful if they bring the child to term. This isn't a child with cerebral palsy, or Trisomy 13, or lissencephaly, or FAS. All the forms of anencephaly mean the child is missing large portions of their brain. Every child deserves love, and no child deserves to die, but there are certain congenital conditions where one must weigh the depth of care, the cost of care, and the potential impact on OTHER family members/children.

Jaxon ended up dying when he was five years old. All types of anencephaly are a tragedy for the whole family. The child generally has no "real" awareness of the world around them and have profound intellectual disabilities (as they are missing all or most of their brain.) They are not "miracles". Even when the children live for years or even decades, they require 24-hr complete care and cannot function or do anything for themselves. If they survive into adulthood, the parents will need to set up a facility or other family member who will be willing to care for the disabled child if/when the parents díe. I do not favor eugenics, but I do support abortion, especially in cases like this. Babies with this severe of a physical disability do not truly get to "live", and put financial and emotional strain on their entire families. Parents need to also consider their existing children (if there are any) and how a profoundly disabled baby who needs 24/7 care would impact the care and attention that the other children in the family receive.

This is one of the downsides i see with social media. Any nutjob can post their wild theories and anybody with a half brain can read it. There is no one there to tell them why it is bull💩. In the old days, what people new was mostly from books and in order for them to get printed, people were checking the facts ( for science books). Now, people get fed with so much stupitidy that it is for them very difficult to pick what is real if it only makes sense to them in some kindergarten logic.

I'm not sure what other term than perplexed or confused to use after reading some of these. Apparently, I would avoid the spectrum if my mother wasn't "old", didn't take paracetamol, was Amish, refused any vaccination for me, let me undergo measles, skin cancer, put dirt in my mouth, had "good vibes" and let me "become a "Florida Man". Whenever I ended up sick, I should have been treated with oregano, not drink water and in no way should I visit a dentist because it's a scam. If I ever have a cancer-related health scare due to genetics, it's because of emotional and spiritual trauma and I should avoid use of any therapy that prevents cell division and/or damage the cells that are causing the issues. And obviously, it's impossible for me to have freckles before the age of 30 unless "each freckle is a body I caught". I know there was a lot more to digest, but... can you hear how illogical it sounds? P.S.: Reductio ad absurdum - I may have used it to make a point, but unless you know what you are talking about, unless you know what the people you are talking about are going through, unless you have an unbiased study to present - just because you have an opinion, it doesn't make it a fact.
