Correct for that region, obviously not universal. Cottages in England came well before cottages in North America and they are something quite different. And, given that they came first, they would be more “correct” if there were such a thing as a correct definition for a word used differently in different places.

I feel sorry for teachers, the stuff they have to deal with on top of teaching and organising the kids, paperwork etc. They should be paid magnificent salaries!

Mr EEB and I are child-free. He didn't want kids, I was neutral. People..OK let's be honest, women kept telling me " Oh, you wait, you'll get a bit older and then the baby fever will start and you'll want kids!" So I waited..and waited.. and it never did. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like but basically I don't feel I missed out. If you're going to have children I think the feeling should be well above "Meh..."

As a dude in his forties, there's no way I'd be interested in a person that young. That's super gross. I can look at an 18 year old and think "she's pretty", but in the same way you look at a little boy and think "he's a cutie". I honestly don't think I could date anyone more than 6 years younger than me. Even between my little bro and I (8 years) our life experiences were so different.

I'm glad this worked out but am I the only one thinking that it was a huge amount of pressure on his then girlfriend to say yes to the proposal. Both families there?! Including her mum who he describes as "notoriously difficult"! What if his girlfriend was unsure? What if she felt obligated to say yes because of the set up? Public proposals, really not a good idea, especially in these circumstances.

Amazing how nothing in any of the scenarios is the OPS fault. He blames it on his mum, his dad, the dad's new partner, the mum's new partner, even the mum's new partner's young children. But he's responsible for nothing. Not the bad grades or behaviour so awful he was nearly kicked out of school, or saying horrible, hurtful things, or throwing tantrums etc. etc. I'd suggest therapy, but then it would probably be the therapist's fault. He's the arsehole. But then he's 17. At some point he'll be an adult and he's going to have to take charge of his own life. I don't hold out much hope based on this little outburst.
