It's probably no coincidence that the teacher is trans. If the teacher wasn't, nobody would probably bat an eye about some student who thinks she shouldn't have failed her paper. But as soon as a story involves a trans person, the right wing start spreading the story like wildfire, just to flood people's timeline with stories of trans people doing things wrong, hoping that it will make people dislike trans people. And if the trans person wasn't actually wrong, as in this story, they will twist it around to make it seem like the trans person did something horrible. Trans people are not our enemy, they're just people who were born in the wrong body. Just normal people who are trying to live life in a way that makes them happy.

I mean some monogamous parents behave the exact same way towards their kids, I remember a story here a few months ago about a couple who made their relationship the first priority (like having couple's vacations without the kid every time) and now the kid had no contact with them.

It almost seems like it’s the finance who has an unconscious bias against OP’s lifestyle, even though his parents don’t. He was the one who was too embarrassed to tell them the truth about it, which is what happens when someone is biased against something but wants to have the appearance of being open minded. Yes, even liberal parents can have a child who is extremely—-sometimes even cult-like—-conservative and judgmental of anyone who lives their life in any way different from their own very narrow and unbending rules. Yes, fiancé (spellcheck initially corrected a bad keystroke for the word fiancé to d***e, which I think is kind of apropos) needs counseling. Maybe some cult deprogramming too, while they’re at it.

OP is NTA. She lost her mother at a very young age and just 2 years later the dad got another wife and stepkids. It was all very quick to OP (no judgement on the dad's choices from my part regarding his second marriage but it would be fast for a child like OP was) and she needed a moment with just her father and mother. She asked the dad to be alone, he agreed. BUT he ended up making everyone join, breaking his promise made to OP. He is the AH for that, and for getting mad at her for her very valid feelings regarding that memory.
