Yup. With the exception of Japanese, I can't tell any flavor of East Asian from each other. Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian ... they all look the same. But my Chinese co-worker can tell them apart in an instant. I guess we become sensitive to the faces that we grow up around.
I once spent a summer as a counselor at a camp where perhaps 95% of the kids were black. I'd have a group of about 12 kids for 2 weeks at a time, and each time around there were a few kids I'd confuse for the full two weeks. I'm pretty sure that the grain of truth to "they all look alike" is in how things like skin tone and hair color/style can be an important part of recognizing people. There's probably a similar range of skin tone across black people and white people, but none of the kids in my groups had red or blond hair, none of them had straight hair, and the differences in length were fairly limited.

No dear, it's not. My niece in law doesn't look anything like my mother's best friend, who doesn't look anything like the family which lives on Croft Road, none of whom look like George Takei, who is easily distinguishable from the botanist James Wong.

Swedish churches tended to be all white inside in modern times, until it was discovered that people hundreds of years ago started to hate the pics in the ceiling.. Try to do work for just two minutes. Tell yourself it's only two minutes. Sometimes, you'll be able to get work done after those two minutes. Sometimes, you won't (in which case you can try again later). But those two minutes of work are better than doing nothing and scrolling on BP :) Which is what I'm doing right now, so I guess I'm not very qualified for advice, am I?
