If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that the internet was practically invented for sharing photos of adorable cats. Ok, maybe not solely for this purpose, but you can’t deny kittens have immense virality potential and people love to fawn over them. Today we’ll take that to a whole new level, though. As self-proclaimed cat connoisseurs, we cannot help but be fascinated by the wide variety of unusual markings that nature blessed cats with. What if we told you there’s a whole world of feline fur patterns that goes far beyond your average tabby? In fact, after some research, we found out there are six main varieties of cat fur patterns: tabby, solid, bicolor, tricolor, tortoiseshell, and colorpoint. These distinctive fur colors and marks emerge while a cat embryo is developing, with neural crest cells (which later give cat fur its color) first appearing along the cat’s back. Narnia is probably a genetic chimera of some sort, (or perhaps has mosaicism), as is Venus the cat, who has similar half-and-half markings :) When I was a kid, we had a dog whose face was half black and half white... her name was Split, of course XD

I love how this owner named the cat narnia. Everyone knows the Pevensey children are transported from their British home to the wonderous world of Narnia. And this to me has a similar idea of binding 2 different counterparts , but into one form. One grey cat and one black cat into one cat interest. Purely love it 😀 😍

Scrappy started out as a black cat, but he had vitiligo, which resulted in his amazing marbling! He lived to be 19 years old :)

I think this little kitten has a "fever coat", which can happen when mom cat has an illness or injury while pregnant. Usually the "fever coat" grows out in a few weeks or months and the kitty has a normal black coat, just like any other adorable void :)

My one cat does that to me! When I go to clean the litterbox and he’s in it, he looks at me like “excuse me, i’m pooping” and I always, always apologize for interrupting and walk back out to wait until he’s done!

A marble tabby! Sometimes referred to as classic tabby or blotched tabby as well. It is a coat pattern, not a specific breed :)

Tortoiseshell point kitty! Sometimes people call them "tortie points" or "tortimese" as Siamese are the original "pointed" breed of cats (but many other cat breeds have "pointed" as a breed standard coat, nowadays)

Uh, yeah, sorry to whomever made this article, that's not a male cat XD So it should be "look at HER feet" and "count HER toes". 99% of calicoes and tortoiseshells are female; only 1 out of every 3,000 are male.

Fosters are in temporary homes, usually due to overcrowding at shelters or because they're too young to be weaned, or are feral and need to get used to a home and people. A foster fail is when the foster family chooses to adopt the fostered animal. Rescued animals often need extended or intense health care, which may affect adoption. It also is used to mean "rescued from a shelter" by the adopter.

I have 2 cats that used to have pure pink noses and toe beans, but over time they got black dots. We call them dum dum dots cuz they seem to get another one every time they do something dumb, they even ran out of room on their noses and toe beans and had to use their eyelids and lips.
