I know we're all indignant that she got returned for being too playful but it's unclear what means. Is the cat running around all night long, keeping people up? Some people can't deal with that. Maybe you want more of a chill lap cat, which she's not? Your personality should probably match your pets. Ella is better off with people who enjoy her for how she is rather than people being annoyed with her thus making her life less enjoyable.

I have a cat that is the exact opposite. Her playfulness is more like, "Okay, now it's time for you to move that little red dot around and around the room while I just sit here and watch you." LOL. Cats are INDIVIDUALS and have a wide range of personality traits. Kinda like, you know, their humans.

EXACTLY. Ella would be miserable with people who want a more chill cat. Returning her worked out, thankfully, but is probably best for her well being and her former family's. People are making this out as a bad thing and it turned out not to be. As you said, pets have personalities and in the same way you wouldn't get into a relationship with someone you don't get along with, why would anyone think that's different with animals?

Six weeks after adopting two six months old brothers, Eddie, my black little devil, would get the 2am skrungees. He'd run around the bedroom and ended up breaking every lamb. I was so mad , I started throwing things at him. Of course I never did hit. He knew I was mad at him. Lying on my back back in bed, I had my eyes closed, trying to calm down, thinking maybe he's more than I can handle. The next thing I know, these little wet lips were kissing me right on mine. He had snuck up to me, and it was his way of saying I'm sorry. I mean how can you be mad after that!

Something like this just happened to me last night. I glanced out my window and there was a cat sitting on top of a fence post, head cocked a bit, watching me. Yes, I felt judged. 😳 The other thing is, I've lived here for 10 years and I've never seen that cat or any others in that particular spot._______ However, plenty of squirrels🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️ use that fence as a highway between the black walnut trees across the street and their nest in the tree in the neighbor's backyard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pets are great companions to many people, and we tend to anthropomorphize them to the point that we treat them like humans. 84% of owners, for example, say they speak to their pets regularly. We probably don't expect an answer, but we still think they can understand us as if they knew our language.
The reality is a little bit different. Pets, such as dogs and cats, don't exactly speak our language, but they do understand and respond to the way we vocalize, gesture, and what expressions we make. We, in turn, don't understand meowing and barking, but we do read our pets' body language: the movement of their tails, and their expressions.

I had a gray tabby that gave birth to a tabby, a white, a black, and a gray kitten. So cool!
A study in 2014 set out to explore how cats communicate with their owners. They found that verbal cues are enough to elicit a response. When a person (and not necessarily the owner) would call the cat, they would tilt their heads and pivot their ears while looking at them. Sadly, they wouldn't say "Meow" back.
But they do understand our facial expressions. A 2015 study from researchers at the University of Milan proved that cats react more affectionately to owners when they smile. They would purr and rub against them. When the owners in the study would frown, their cats would avoid them.

The man wasn't a skeleton when the cat first jumped on. But the cat wouldn't move, and the man didn't want to disturb him. And anybody who's had a cat in their lap knows exactly what I'm talking about.
But do cats have a sense of humor? When they do the silly things they do, is it random or because they want to make us laugh? Experts say that unlike dogs, cats think that humans are cats, too. While dogs probably understand that we're a different species even though dogs and humans are part of a pack, cats think of us as big, clumsy cats.

However, he says that they probably perceive us as clumsy; not many cats trip over other cats.

Unfortunately, researchers haven't found any evidence yet that cats do naughty things to amuse us. Experts claim that it's more of an attempt to get attention than something they do to laugh at us. Cats themselves don't laugh, although they do make other sounds that mean they're happy and amused.

A smiling cat means something very different than a smiling person. Some cats seem like they're smiling when they're relaxed and calm with a closed mouth. However, sometimes a cat's face might contort into something like a smile if they're in pain or stressed, too. So, it's better to look for other signs of happiness in your cat than a smile.

Well, many cat owners know the classic tell-tale signs of a happy cat: purring, rubbing against a human's legs and feet, kneading, meowing, or asking for attention with a touch of their paw. So, I'll run around a lot and make it look like there's a bunch of mice and you start running around. Then, I'll sleep all day, like you've killed all the mice or ran them off. They'll reward you big time. In a few weeks, when the humans start slacking off, we'll do it again! This is Job Security!

Our cat I think was never bothered with mice. I think she thought micing was beneath her. Don't get me wrong she was a highly skilled hunter killer. When she did kill a mouse in the house. She did not play with it, give it as a present nor tear it up. You came down in the morning to find a dead mouse in the middle of floor. Just dead. No marks on it. The cat asleep on the kitchen table bench. She had probably sat on the table middle of the night watching the mouse then just dropped on it from on high. It was like she was sending a warning to the other mice that our house was a no go area. It worked. I think we only had one other mouse in her life span and that met a similar fate.

Dog people like to accuse cats of being too cold and emotionless, but their disposition is actually the result of evolution. Our mini panthers' feline cousins, for example, don't show emotion as a way to protect themselves. To them, showing emotion is a sign of weakness, and one moment off guard could cost them their lives.

A truth teller here, sorry folks: I have the heart 'for her' to tell you she's obese. She does't feed herself. Her health is at serious risk. Please help her before she's diabetic, has a heart attack, cannot jump because of arthritis, the list goes on... Said all in love.
So, it's not entirely clear if cats have a sense of humor or not. Scientists say that cats don't understand cause and effect. So, if they do something that makes us laugh, they're not able to understand what it was that we found so humorous. However, some experts believe that they may have a sense of humor – we just haven't found a way to prove it yet.

My Eddie would act as my wingman whenever I had a girl over. He would rub himself all over her, purring and snuggling. When he was done, she was all warmed up for me. But if he hissed at her, that was the signal that he didn't approve of her. Cats are great at choosing the right person to spend the night with.

What do you want the human to do in this instance? Run and grab a ladder and attempt to bring the cat down? They'll probably only spook the cat in that situation (rattling ladder/stepstool, slammed against the wall for stability, etc.) If the cat cannot get herself back to the place where her back paws are, then yes, getting a ladder/stepstool might be warranted. But it is unlikely to be more than 8 or so feet to the ground, and letting the cat jump on her own rather than scare her into falling is a much better plan.

Could have been adoption too. Depends on whether it was a breeder, store, independent with accidental kittens, etc. Some people just say purchased if money was involved. We paid money to adopt ours from the ASPCA.
