Meanwhile I wore bright unnatural color hair inorder to attract partners. Like a bird! And like a bird species that are monogamous, I was hoping to attract someone with funky hair as well! To have funky hair together! Cause it's fun! And I like birds! Fun fact, most species of birds that share the same plumage between sexes mate for life. Bald eagles, macaws, etc.

I think it's mostly that agriculture (both meat and plant) isn't talked about that much in school anymore. The places where it is if the school is affected by it. Where I grew up, there's a land grant university, so agriculture is a massive part of its history. Because it is, they have a creamery and one of the field trips the elementary schools take is to said creamery to learn about cheese and ice cream making.

We’ve all been there. You swear that one actor is in that film- no, you’re not mixing them up with someone else! Or you know for a fact that this song came out in 1997, not a year earlier or later. But sometimes, we’re just wrong! Everybody makes mistakes, and as embarrassing as it may be to have to own up to them, it’s even worse to dig your heels in and get called out online.

That’s where the Confidently Incorrect subreddit comes in. If you respectfully try to correct someone, and you’re actually right, you don’t need to worry about ending up here. But if you’re incredibly smug and simultaneously wrong, well, you might end up learning the hard way that you should be careful what you post online.

Well to be fair it is also passed through the blood. There was a very low risk, but if he and another player collided by accident and were injured enough to draw blood, it could have been transferred. But I don't watch basketball so I don't know if players get badly injured like in other sports.

The sentiment behind this is also BS. You're not going to be happy if you never put yourself first, if you are always putting others first. Not prioritizing yourself gets you burnt out, disappointed, overlooked, and stressed. We need to stop romanticizing the idea of giving selflessly all the time. That's a recipe for misery, not happiness.

So why do we become overconfident even when we’re wrong? “Because it works – at least in the short term,” the communication expert says. “Confidently stated nonsense can sound convincing, and it often leaves others too uncertain to challenge it.”

“Plus, when we project certainty, it’s easier to convince ourselves that we’re right, even when we’re not,” Dr. Gerharz explained. “You could call it a psychological safety blanket: ‘If I sound confident, no one will notice I might be wrong—even me.’"

"As the saying goes: ‘A bold assertion beats weak evidence.’ It’s a quick fix for uncertainty that creates the illusion of truth,” he added.

This is the weirdest false equivalency I've ever seen. It makes my brain hurt analyzing this. Greta isn't guiding anything. She's an advocate and a protestor trying to save the world. She's famous but she has no political power. Epstein was a disgusting POS who abused undergage women for fun and profit. This isn't apples to oranges, it's apples to used tires.

Clearly, the people featured on this list didn’t do a great job of correcting others. But is there a polite and respectful way to do so?

“Correcting someone is a delicate art, like defusing a bomb,” Dr. Gerharz says. “If you’re too blunt, it blows up; too cautious, and it still blows up. The trick is to snip the ego wire first. Keep the conversation focused on the idea, not the person. For example, saying ‘That’s wrong’ can feel like a personal attack.”

The flag paraphernalia Republicans douse themselves in are also a violation of said code for desecration. Neither is the US flag to be used for overt commerce/marketing. However minor, there is absolutely zero bottom or end to republican hypocrisy. Every. Single. Aspect. Of. Their. Lives. Including and especially their sacred patriotism (quickly devolving to nationalism before our eyes.) SO sick of the star-spangled-azsholes this country cranks out. Display The flag should be displayed from sunrise to sunset, but can be displayed 24 hours a day if illuminated. It should be flown in fair weather, unless it's designed for inclement weather. Hoisting and lowering The flag should be raised briskly and lowered ceremoniously. When lowering the flag, it should be received by waiting hands and arms, and no part of it should touch the ground. Maintenance The flag should be kept clean and free of damage. When it's no longer fit to serve, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner. Other considerations The flag should not be used for advertising, or as part of a costume or athletic uniform. It should not be dipped to anyone or anything, except as a distress signal. When the flag is displayed on a vehicle, it should be firmly attached to the chassis or clamped to the right fender. So, yes, there are rules for proper display and care for the U.S. flag.

Actually NASA until 2007 used both, I know someone who worked as a physicist for NASA (had a PhD) and said for some thing they use metric and for some they use imperial, and they keep records in both measurements. Even since to 2007 switch to ful metric everything is kept in dual records. At the US Section of the ISS uses Imperial and NASA will not let them switch to metric. They only went all metric after an error with a Mars lander happened because the dual system led to an error. Edit: At the time of all the moon landings, they exclusively used imperial

Instead of immediately telling someone they’re wrong, Dr. Gerharz recommends instead trying, “That’s interesting—I’ve always heard it differently. What do you think about this perspective?”

“Questions like these gently nudge toward the truth. They invite a conversation instead of launching a debate,” he explained. “Also, remember: nobody likes a know-it-all, especially one who doesn’t. If you’re swooping in to correct someone, make sure you’ve done your homework. Otherwise, you might end up as the next feature on the subreddit.”

I assume the discussion is about abortion. But it feels a bit scary that OP seems to think only those capable of living independently deserves to not je killed. That also rules out a lot of people that are injured and disabled. Sometimes you can live a happy life that is not independent. Or start dependent and then get better. I do get what he is saying though, there are white supremacists who use ø in words where it doesn't naturally belong, to signal their views. But obviously he should have said "Using ø in English, without good reason, CAN be a white supremacist give away", because there are many cases where people use this letter for legitimate reasons. Like words/names from Danish, Norwegian and a couple of other languages. And people who are into Viking cosplay.

And if you realize that you’re made a mistake, Dr. Gerharz suggests simply taking accountability. “We’ve all been there: halfway through a passionate argument, only to realize we’ve been confidently—and gloriously—wrong. The best approach? Own it. Fast,” he told Bored Panda.

“Something like: ‘Wow, I totally goofed there. Let me set the record straight.’ This not only clears the air but shows you value getting it right over saving face,” the expert explained. “Bonus: it also makes you more relatable. People trust those who admit their flaws more than those who act flawless.”

One time, after telling a guy that I'm Indian, he asked me what tribe? I am genuinely annoyed that the same word is used for two totally different groups of people that I don't think could be any more unrelated. I've always wondered but never had the chance to ask if Native Americans like the word "indian" to describe themselves or if they prefer a different word. I would prefer they used a different word. My people come from the Indus valley, the word Indian makes sense. We call native Americans Indians because some explorers a few hundred years ago were confused about where they were (at least that's my understanding). There must be a better word to use for describing people who lived on this land before the USA was a country. -- Google tells me the preferred terms are "Native American" or "indigenous".

You will find people who prefer Indian, Native American, indigenous people, First Nations, aborigine, or the name of their respective tribe. And people who hate some of those options. Only way to know is to ask the individual.

What he said is true for black bears in general. What the EXPERT said is true for the case she was talking about which was a momma bear with cubs. Almost *any* female animal will attack you to defend their cubs (there are a few exceptions, mainly animals that have multiple litters a year and can afford to lose the offspring in order to preserve their own life)

Best to avoid bears, but James Blackley is correct. There have been a total of 86 lethal black bear attacks in 240 years of American history, about 1 every three years. Of those, the "clear majority" were after the bear was attacked. You're 200 times more likely to be attacked and killed by a dog than by a bear. The normal behavior is to charge as a threat, but not to attack. And the person who wrote the caption is the one that mixed up black bears vs brown bears (some populations of which are known as grizzly bears).

Many years ago, I took a training class in which we had to solve a maths problem. Everyone - including the trainer! - got the wrong answer because they did the equation left to right without following the order of operations. When I explained why it doesn't work that way and explained the order of operations, one of the other participants tried to claim they didn't have the order of operations when they were in school.

Well, if we think about languages other than English, the matter is no longer so clear-cut. The best example is the Japanese term キノコ狩り (kinoko kari) whose translation is literally mushroom hunting. I also wouldn't say in Finnish that I go to collect mushrooms, but it has its own word that contains the word mushroom, sienestys. You can also say that you are going to a berry forest, marjametsälle or a game forest, riistametsälle. The word hunting is completely missing even though both are about it. the Finnish term metsästys contains the word forest and does not really explain what is being hunted there in the forest. Stones, plants, berries or people. who knows.

It's not uncommon for the word "hunt" to be used instead of "search" in English also (at least in my part of the world). It's not restricted to things to do in the forest either. You could be hunting for your shoes, or hunting for a job.

I used to teach and study evolution and I think this all the time about people who say they don't "believe" in it. Evolution doesn't require belief; it genuinely doesn't matter what you think about it. It's been happening for 4.5 billion years on this planet, it will continue most likely for another 5 billion when the sun goes nova and swallows the planet. Your opinion on whether it happens or not just... doesn't matter.

my take away from this is, wow I thought uranium was a rock or ore type element, and not like a soft metal like lead. so I looked it up.. . here is the answer. uranium is considered to be as malleable as lead, meaning it can be hammered into different shapes without breaking, although it is generally considered a slightly harder metal than lead; both are classified as malleable and ductile metals when in their pure form.

When people confidently state rubbish like this, do they not look to other languages and note the obvious similarities in the words? News is literally the things that are new. It's the same in Welsh: new = newydd; news = newyddion. Also, acronyms are a relatively new thing. So no, golf does NOT mean "Gentlemen only, ladies forbidden", posh does not mean "Port out, starboard home", and fúck does not mean "Fornication Under Consent of the King"!

THIS. As a rule of thumb, any word that is not military or techological in origin, and no world at all that predates the twentieth century, is an acronym.

Here in Germany, I remember a discussion about whether agriculture is an essential part of ecomony, because it only makes up about 1% of our gross domestic product. Like people actually seem to think that we could just stop doing agriculture and only lose some money. Imagine a country that has to import 100% of food from others.

Ok, I have said this before, and have been resisting the desire to say it again, but I can't, so here it is...Why do people equate "snowflake" with an insulting term? I would enjoy being called a snowflake. Why? Well, because there are no two alike. Their entirely unique beauty is unto themselves, and much like life, their intricacies become more profound when you realize the transitory nature of a snowflake.

Took husband to hospital today for further checks after his pulmonary embolism. The nursing assistant, (or whatever the correct term is, sorry!) did the usual questions and answers, do you have any allergies, when did you give up smoking, have you had the 'flu jab, etc, then she stumped both of us by asking him if he'd had the "ammonia" jab. Turns out she didn't know how to pronounce "pneumonia". It was rather sweet!

A PC isn't a laptop though in the terms I assume this man means. I wouldn't call someone's laptop their PC. Yes, I know PC just means 'Personal Computer', and therefore a laptop is a PC, but in my day-to-day terms, a PC is like a desktop, and a laptop is a laptop. I have a desktop at work, that I sometimes needs to remote into from my laptop. If someone asked if my PC was working, I wouldn't check my laptop.

Why (apart from stupidity) isn't the obvious counter-answer 'I'll drive at more than 75mph then'? And for those asking where you could possibly do that, this screenshot doesn't state that it's point-to-point. It could be laps on a NASCAR race circuit. They do an average of 180mph, so 11.1 hours continuously.

That's if they plan to drive 75 the whole way. If they bump it up to 88, they can go back in time a few hours and have enough time to make the whole trip in one day.
