194 Breathtaking Photos Of Dancers In Motion Reveal The Extraordinary Grace Of Their Bodies
The NYC Dance Project is an initiative designed to showcase the magical world of dance and dancers. It was founded by fashion/beauty photographer Ken Browar and dancer/photographer Deborah Ory, and the beautiful pictures you can see here are taken from a book called The Art of Movement that's soon to be released.
Inspiration for the project came when Ken and Deborah were decorating their daughter's room. They wanted to fill it with pictures of contemporary dance stars (their daughter's an aspiring ballerina), but unable to find many they decided to photograph those dancers themselves. They got in touch with a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre and asked if they could photograph him. He agreed, word quickly spread, and soon Ken and Deborah had several requests for collaboration from other members of the NYC dance community. Take a look at some of our favorite pictures below. The Art of Movement is released on October 2 and you can pre-order it here.

The yards and yards of silk and organza move so perfectly with the dancers.
If there were such a thing as a Flamenco ocean wave, this is what it would look like.
Yeah, no biggie, I'ma just suspend the laws of physics by suspending myself here in mid-air for a bit.
Such beauty is almost too much for this mere mortal to bear. The exquisite gown and her soaring height are spectacular.
This. Such pain it requires to create such mind-blowing, effortless-appearing beauty.
*swoooon* The black-banded hem makes this cloud of organza even more marvelous.
Anyone who believes ballet is frivolous needs to see these photos. The human strength and discipline required to achieve such impossible beauty is mind-blowing. Perhaps the only difference between Olympic athletes and ballet athletes is that these dancers must make it look completely effortless.
The power and strength of these athletes of ballet seems superhuman. I could not watch the film the Black Swan because the director had portrayed, especially with sound, the physical pain and brutal impact on the feet that was too visceral, too palpable for this wimp to withstand.
A glorious cheetah; silent and utterly still before exploding in pure muscled energy.
Can we get some credit for the designer in these photos? Couture dress made by Liz White of LWD Couture http://lizwhitecouture.com/
He reminds me of Prince just a bit. Also reminiscent of a Robert Mapplethorpe type of photo. This man's stillness almost makes it feel necessary to whisper while observing.
Extremely graceful!!!!!!!!!!!!!So Pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous. I wish the dancers were credited as well - I'd love to know who they are and where they dance.
I understand they are credited in the coffee-table book. I recognized some of them--Misty Copeland, Julie Kent, Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild, Chase Finlay--but I do wish there'd been more captions.
Load More Replies...Magnificent powerful beauty. Bravo to all who helped create such magic.
So graceful, elegant, beautiful!!! Βodies, dresses, expressions! And you can see the years dedicated to be able to make these dance moves! ~~~<3
I love the pictures as I am a ballerina myself, dancing with one of the best ballet schools in all of the World.
Just think on their salary... versus their chiropractor bills...
Love all of these. Can any of them be purchased. It is art I could look at all the time
Just magnificient! I started adult ballet 15 yrs ago and the more I practice the more I am enjoying it! It has been so far the most challenging sport and dance I had ever done but absolutly magnifying! The grace yes, yes and yes! I started photography at the same time and developped both arts together with singing and tai-chi! Each one of them influences the other ones bringing us in other dimensions of self! The grace is necessary in all of them indeed a lot in ballet and photography, to make us dream and admire human being s habilities to be so gracefull! I suppose....each art needs so much time to access to its techniques first before being able to express it freely with so much grace! And, the possibilities are so vaste that it is encouraging for those who are creative, start and never stop...things happen when we are IN! Many gratitude to the dancers, photographer, costume designers, persons who edited and shared the Grace of art of being Human! Live arts of expressions forever!
This was so beautiful! I just think that the name of the dancers should be mentioned.
I loved the way all the dresses flowed with the dancer... It looked beautiful. They all danced with such grace
Thesse are stunning to the OP what lighting equipment are you using? They must have a great t.1 rating?
