According to data collected by Zenger Folkman, a professional services firm providing leadership development, quiet quitting is usually less about an employee’s willingness to work harder and more creatively, and more about a manager's ability instead.
Their researchers looked at data gathered since 2020 on 2,801 managers, who were rated by 13,048 direct reports (on average, each manager was rated by five direct reports), and compared two things:
- Employees' ratings of their manager's ability to "Balance getting results with a concern for others' needs."
- Employees' ratings of the extent to which their "work environment is a place where people want to go the extra mile."

I went to college with an intelligent yet very naive girl. A gorgeous blonde. She went to get a waitress job at a local, popular club & convention center. A bunch of us were hanging out & she had gotten a list of what she would be required to wear. She was confused by the list. And also that she would be working not in the main area but the cabanas they had there back in the wooded area but high scale guests. She was excited that she would get big tips. One look at her dress code & one of the girls in our class told her she would most certainly get a tip & much more. It was all high heels & lingerie. Most of us did not know the place at a dirty little secretive side business.
I'd have never thought this possible in New Zealand. How didappointing.

He says, "Great, but if you want the place cleaned up a bit I have an idea where you can stick a broom".

I once had to go to work (quick serve manager) feeling absolutely terrible because no manager would cover and the big boss didn't care. I left immediately after my shift and told my boss I was going to urgent care. I barely remember getting there and I ended up on an IV. I send my boss a picture of my arm taped up with the IV. They ask if I will be in tomorrow... not the first time they pushed me to work sick.
Last year I met a very intelligent, and very interesting, man at work. He was rambling about “first one to the finish line” and yaddiyadda. He said that he had sold his very expensive house, quit his well paid job and moved his family to a farm with solar panels and his own water and everything else one needs for survival. I thought it was slightly odd but now? Because fukc society.
