40 Times People Had Such Wild Solutions To Problems, They Ended Up On The “Anything Gone Wrong” Page
If you’ve ever owned a vehicle, you’ll know it doesn’t come cheap. The average cost of a new car in the U.S. is around $50,000. While a used one could set you back around $25,000. And it doesn’t end there. You’ll still need to factor in licensing, insurance, maintenance and fuel. One study found that Americans spend an average of $6,684 per year in hidden vehicle-related expenses. And that’s on top of their monthly lease or loan payments.
If you’re forking thousands, you can only hope that nothing goes wrong. And if it does, you’ll probably want to make sure that you’ve picked the right person to service and fix your vehicle. To drive the message home, Bored Panda has found some perfect examples of what can happen if you cut corners to save money. Keep scrolling for the most unhinged solutions to automotive problems, sourced from the Facebook page “Anything Gone Wrong”.

"How to fix a rust spot"
right?!?! that is super clever and looks really cool
Load More Replies...I think it's incorrectly named. More like ingenious than bad. Edited to add: I'll take this back having seen the cardboard car door and tyre held together with straps. A few are ingenious.

I like it! You can sit and rest a bit and watch the river from inside too.
It's both a rest stop and a bridge. I think it's brilliant. 😀
Load More Replies...This on belongs in the "If it works, it isn't stupid" category.
This is the result of an accident that happened on 29th April 2022 in Tirana, Albania. A Mercedes Benz car bumped into the bus, which swerved and came to rest over the Lana river. There were no injuries despite the bus being full. People asked the municipality to leave the bus in place as a monument, but it was removed one week later on the grounds of making it available for technical assessment during the inquiry.
I'm pretty sure it would polute the river if they left it
Load More Replies...I like how some people think this is intentional, even with the police line and damaged bumpers
I didn't notice the Police line until you mentioned it (yellow doesn't show up well against green.) Also I thought I'd seen a picture on BP sometime ago where something very similar was done and deliberately left in place. It was regularly used and welcomed by the local people.
Load More Replies...Dont think it's deliberate though, that first step out of the exit at the front of the bus is a bit iffy.
The yellow warning tape is a strong clue that this isn't deliberate. Deliberate or not, I'd like to know how that bus got that far across the creek. "Bashika Tirane" means "Tirana Municipality". This picture was taken in Albania and that's a city bus.
Load More Replies...Creative idea and way cheaper than any build bridge, I guess. Only tthe entrance/exit on the far side seems a bit complicated for people who can't walk well, or not at all
"FIRST, I LAUGHED... THEN I PONDERED... NOW I WANT IT"
I think the straight lines running across the treads every six inches or so are where they were cut on the other side to get them to lay flatter. Then a little heat and a little weight would probably finish the trick.
Load More Replies...Tread carefully, this seems like an extremely tiring task, especially if you aren't having a goodyear.
As long as the cracks between the tires are sealed. Otherwise water will seep between them and ruin the bed. This would defeat the purpose.
Yeah, I'd be worried about water getting trapped under them and never really drying out, leading to rust. Or at the very least, some gross mold/mildew.
Load More Replies...it looks like it was stapled to a substrate... getting the material to lay flat? Perhaps heat? Not sure. Also not sure the staple were a great idea due to objects catching on them. Seems like some sort of counterbored or sunk screw could be used, but... Either way, I'd rather simply get an single-piece insert that protects the floor and the sides, is lightweight and a lot less fussy (aka pain-in-the-a*s).
I think someone would do well starting a business doing this. gump-geniu...8129f3.gif
Old tire tread is great for any application where you want something to resist impacts and abrasion. It's a fraction of the cost of any comparable solution. You solve the curvature problem by cutting it into tiles, as you can see here.
You might have heard before that most cars lose value as soon as you drive them off the showroom floor. And they’ll continue to depreciate for as long as you own them. By just how much depends on a few factors. The type of vehicle, the age, mileage, location and, of course, how well you look after it. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), a medium sedan that’s driven 10,000 miles per year will depreciate by around $4,680 a year.
With that in mind, it’s probably in your best interest to keep your vehicle in a good condition. So that you get as much as possible back when/if you decide to sell or trade it in one day. It goes without saying that you should not take a leaf out of the book of anyone featured on this list.
"This guy walks around at night and pimps random peoples cars"
At least he seems to be using masking tape so the prank isn't going to cause any damage. If I came out in the morning and found this duct taped to my car, I'd be really p*ssed.
I hope he removes it afterwards. I would be pretty annoyed if I came out to my car only to have to deal with a bunch of cr*p someone put on it.

"A secret technique to protect your car against flooding"
it actually works. alot of ppl did this with their cars in florida during hurricane milton after a video of a guy with a brand new super expensive car did it went viral. ppl started copying him and cars were perfectly fine
Everyone ridiculed him for it but he had the last laugh when his car wasn't damaged.
Load More Replies...This is genius and I can't believe this isn't standard for areas that call for flooding. This is wonderfully simple and effective.
It won't work if there's too much water. The pressure against it becomes quite high as the water gets deeper.
Load More Replies...They probably have one of the new cars where the lights turn off automatically after a certain amount of time.
Load More Replies...One of the easiest and cheapest ways to look after your vehicle is to keep it clean. Whether you choose to take it for a professional wash or you do it yourself, a little sparkle goes a long way. But once every few months, you should book your car in for a wax as well, to preserve the paintwork and prevent corrosion.
If you’re doing the wash yourself, remember that washing your car under direct sunlight isn’t the greatest option. The heat will cause the water to evaporate faster than you can wipe it off, and this could leave annoying watermarks. You might also experience unwanted spots from soap foam that dried before you could rinse it off. You’ll also want to be super careful about the sponges or cloths you use, so you don’t end up scratching your vehicle.

Load More Replies..."When a plumber works on his own car"
The reason a valve, any valve, is not typically used for this application, is because they do not seal reliably. If I took my truck in for required emissions testing and they saw this on there, I don't think they'd certify the vehicle, due to the obvious threat to ground water.
Fumoto makes a version of this that's awesome & I have it on one vehicle. A simple valve to drain. The Fomoto one has a nipple valve that you can attach tubing to if you need to route the oil different than just straight down. You just have to be careful when installing to rotate it so it doesn't stick down & present a break-off hazard.
Another very important tip is to take your car in for its service as and when required. For most cars, this is around every 5,000 miles or every six months. Whichever comes first. Those oil changes and inspections are super important, and the mechanic will let you know if there’s anything else that needs to be seen to. It is possible to do the oil changes yourself if the vehicle is just due for a minor service. But make sure you know what you're doing, and you use the right oil!
Honestly, if the end of that yellow cord is anchored safely/securely, this is a smart idea!

finally, a worthwhile use for flip-flops (I HATE anything between my toes)
Me too. I once helped on a kids daycare scheme when I was only 16 myself. There was a little boy (about 6) struggling to walk in flip-flops. He said he didn't like them, I asked why he wore them and he said, "My Mum says I have to." It's a small thing but I didn't know what to say and felt really sorry for him. Great idea, but he's cutting down the efficiency of his air flow with that flat bottom on the exterior 'funnel' piece. If were a smooth taper into the piping, he'd get a higher volume of air. Had the same problem on some of my home heating ductwork, they fixed it when we got a new furnace.
There's actually a product like this (but not so redneck) where you can direct air to the back seat where your baby/kid is sitting. Some cars have vents in the back but a lot of them (including mine) don't and it can get pretty hot back there until the air con cools the whole car.
For some services, you’ll need to call in the professionals. Do not attempt to figure things out as you go along, or you could find yourself featured on a list just like this one. Nothing lasts forever, and at some point, certain parts on your vehicle will need replacing. By a professional. These include things like spark plugs, oil filters, fuel filters, PCV valves, belts and hoses. While some of the major services can cost a pretty penny, it’ll cost you way more if your car packs up altogether due to cutting costs.

"Is this even legal"
Towing the car is legal. Not sure about the single axle trailer though. I'm assuming that's what the poster was questioning.
The car? The way it is "secured"? The trailer size/rating? The hitch? The Break lights? The trailer License plate? The way the ladder is strapped?
Yes, and we living in a touristy region, approve. People forget that our parking spaces in front of supermarkets, attractions, in our small towns and at the beach are not made for these battleships, flooding the area during holidays. For many tourists cycling is too far, too tiresome, too complicatey, too... . So in order to keep the white box invasion limited to camping sites, it is good if people think ahead. Actually, those who don't, have a double problem: Random overnight parking outside of official campsites is heavily fined.
Pretty sure this case would be a "No" looking at the trailer. If a proper trailer would be used I see no problem
Load More Replies...Yes, as long as the brake lights are functional and the trailer is rated for that amount of weight.
"This guy has it figured out"
The man was annoying his wife, and she said, "Can't you go outside and find something to do?"
You can mow and grill at the same time. By the time you get done mowing you can relax and have something to eat.
I'm not even entirely sure what I'm looking at here. Is it a functioning lawnmower, or has it been turned into some sort of grill exhaust system?
Neither. It’s a lawnmower converted onto a sturdier cart for the grill.
Load More Replies...they probably do have it figured out... although I am uncertain what, exactly.?
The last thing you need is for your brakes to fail in an emergency. So get them checked regularly. And if you notice anything unusual when braking, take your car in just to be safe. You may or may not be aware that a car has various fluids that keep it going smoothly. It’s not just a matter of fuel and oil.
You should aim to check the engine oil, coolant, power steering fluid and windshield washer fluid levels at least every month. You’ll also want to have your brake fluid checked every few months.

Don’t be like this person. Tire tread is important. As Bankrate notes, “low tread on your tires puts you at risk of losing control of your vehicle, particularly when you’re driving in the rain, sleet or snow.” You don’t have to take your car to a professional to have this checked. You can buy a gadget that treads the depth, or you can use a penny.
“If you choose the latter, insert the penny upside down into the tread with Abraham Lincoln’s face looking outward,” reads the Bankrate site. “If Lincoln’s head is fully visible, you probably need new tires. Take the car to a tire dealer to confirm.” And if you are advised to get new tires, it goes without saying that you should take the advice.

On the topic of tires… Don’t forget to check your tire pressure. It affects vehicle safety and fuel fuel efficiency. Newer vehicles will alert you on the dashboard if your tire pressure is low. But if you have an older model, you can either buy a tire-pressure gauge or you can go to the gas station.
Most cars have a sticker on the inside of the driver’s door that’ll tell you exactly how much tire pressure your car needs. And remember, this changes depending on how loaded (with passengers or luggage) your car is.

Is that right off of the water shut off valve? So if it goes out quite a few people will be without water? You would think they would take better care of it. they could have all of the pieces they needed for a replacement in, probably, 2 - 3 weeks and have it fixed within 4 hours.
There's so many jubilee clips on there, it would have been cheaper and more efficient to buy new pipe.
Gotta be on a farm! There's more money invested in hose clamps than an actual repair would cost.

It is an air intake, not exposed to high temps. The original intake was also probably either PVC or ABS plastic.

Retraced his steps to the now cordoned off road, where the metal part had come loose, bounced up off the road and through the windscreen of the vehicle behind him at the time, instantly killing the driver.

Brings back an interesting story. Back during the SR-71 production days, there were certain parts that had to have a special coating due to the high temps they experienced. Even a scratch, and the part was worthless. Major challenge for the production line folks and they lost a lot of parts during manual tool work due to filings, little bits, etc scratching them. One guy had an idea: he bought some astroturf and tried doing all his work on it. All the little bits fell down into the astroturf and parts loss fell to near zero. Guy was given a _major_ award for that.
