I use 12 Foot Ladder, it will bypass the paywall for most, but not all of these. The name comes from, "Build a 10 foot paywall and I'll use a 12 foot ladder".

I used to work for this pharma company and one summer they celebrated the release of two drugs and did a huge annual meeting bringing all employees from across the USA to California. They paid for super fancy meals and had bands like Weezer playing at the party. No less than a month later, they let go of all contractors or about %40 of the company.

Those bonuses might account for the equivalent salaries of a couple hundred people....part of running a company is finding the most productive and cost efficient way of doing things, so it's less about them getting a fat bonus and more about the fact that despite that fat bonus their operating costs have still decreased by 5/10/20x.

They’re also one of the more benign forms of capitalism. I’m more angry about M&Ms purposely trying to start a fight about gender to distract people from the fact that they were being taken to court for child slavery than I am about mildly annoying online hawkers whom I’ve been able to ignore easily so far.

anyone working a full time job should be able to afford housing, food, utilities, transportation, clothing, healthcare, vacations, self care, entertainment,/fun, family functions AND be able to put some back for savings as well as retirement, with some left over. 40 hours for fast food workers is the same amount of time as anyone else's 40 hours. No one should have to work multiple jobs just to be able to live. Also if you're being asked to tip (regardless of the type of establishment), there's a 99.999989% chance that the employees are not getting minimum wage. Just like servers, bartenders, and hosts. Because corporations want you to not only pay for the goods but pay the employees too.

    Chris Borei

You say "Also if you're being asked to tip (regardless of the type of establishment), there's a 99.999989% chance that the employees are not getting minimum wage.".... first, that is not true. Fast food workers are not waitstaff and must be paid an hourly rate at least minimum wage by federal law and in today's day and time, there are very few fast food restaurants paying employees only federal minimum wage. Secondly, even waitstaff are actually guaranteed full minimum wage by federal law. Yes their actual hourly rate is lower, but if the tips they collect plus their wage dies not equal the federal n minimum wage, then the employer must make up the difference. This is federal law.

It’s the business’ way of avoiding raising their employees’ pay. They’re just making consumers pick up their slack—-like double dipping by getting our money for their products AND cutting their payroll by using our money for tips instead of their money for raises—-and they’re probably laughing about it all the way to the bank. The f*****s.

I'm not American, but I've been there often enough to be up to speed with the tipping. In August, we visited our daughter in Fort Lauderdale and she took us to our first baseball game. During the game, we went to a counter for some food and ran into this spin-the-iPad routine. I thought "B******t!", looked the woman in the eye and hit the "skip" button. I'll tip the waitress who gives us the full service in a restaurant or diner, but some iPad spinner is going to miss out every time..

War is almost insignificant in terms of population control. WW2 killed 45m out of 2,530m. Many of those were old, so had little impact on future births. we are now 8billion. So there'd have to be catastrophic levels of genocide to have any impact on our numbers

There's a reason. By destroying infrastructure and killing people, capitalism is able to reset markets to free up the ability to rake in new profits whenever things get too efficient and we get to the point where the poor can no longer be bled for another cent.

I'm dumbfounded and horrified that war is still a thing in this day and age. Senseless killing because of a toxic ego. War is NEVER started for any other reason. If you want to own a country that isn't yours, YOU go out and battle it out in person with the other countries army. Not the people you dictate over or repress - YOU. - Looking at you P and X.

Finally, someone else took up the chorus! Barack Obama began an entire movement that washed him into the White House and the folks that do all the bit¢hing need to emulate it. For starters, put down the phone, tablet, etc and go vote!! Get involved in the things you feel that need changing. That gets your fingers in the pie, when you belong to an organization that answers back to those in power and holds their feet to the fire, folks remember who you are. That's how you get started, but count on it pretty much eating up your personal life because that's how it works.

There is an age minimum. Why ffs is there not a mandatory retirement age? Term limits and for God's sake why does the courts not have age limits and term maximums as well? This country is doomed to swim in it's s**t if we don't change the narrative. We'll never change the narrative unless we change the players. Possibly my biggest gripe with so called democracy.

Career politicians should be the ones banned, if you think about it you’d hope that people got into politics due to their being a cause they believe in, so let’s just say for arguments sake that cause is help and provision for victims of domestic violence, once they’ve achieved that goal they should leave office as no matter what the next cause is they just aren’t going to care enough/the same about it as the cause that lead them to act.

From what I understand the life story thing helps with search engines? Decent sites have a button to go straight to the recipe. Although we shouldn't complain really, if they're giving us recipes for free. Once upon a time you had to write really fast during a cookery programme to get a free recipe.

As someone who uses recipe sites A LOT, I suspect people like OP just like having someone it’s socially acceptable to be rude to. Almost no one has talked about their life on recipe pages since about 2015; these days SEO is done by writing detailed instructions on how to cook the thing. And even if they did still post about their lives, y’all are the ones mooching off them instead of buying a cookbook or getting one out of the library (I just saw that you pointed that out too and I appreciate not being the only person saying it.)

Honestly, I don't get most pranks anyway, even from long before the internet. I cannot see how it is funny to frighten or humiliate someone, in the hope that they will actually lose their temper. The only sort of prank that entertains me is the one where people are just confused, like the time I gave DH a box of chocolates and every night I refilled nearly all he had eaten from a spare box (it had got partly melted in the sun, hence I had to buy another one before his birthday). Seeing him sit there one day and ask 'what is going on with my chocolates, I am sure I've eaten some of them already' and just look perplexed was hilarious.

for sure. i also hate when you're playing a game on your phone and there is an ad that requires you to press X multiple times, sometimes redirecting you automatically to the download page, even though you didn't click anything, and when you try to go back, it's cancelled the reward you were meant to get, or worse, reset the game and caused you to lose progress

That's not the issue though. I agree with your statement but hate speech is a clear and concise topic. You can't call people racial slurs and then act buthurt when your posts with those racist slurs are removed. That's different than pointing out white Europeans were terrible to the native population of North America.

My understanding is that we have the freedom of speech, with very specific exceptions but that doesn't mean you can say whatever you want and not have any kind of consequences, just that nobody can stop you from saying it regardless of how ignorant. Say what you want but be ready to stand up for those convictions if there's a response. No crying about free speech, the other side has the same protection

Housing should primarily be in the hands of the state, not private companies. Everyone needs to live somewhere and for a society it's better to have it's members live in a home rather than on the streets with all the other problems attached to it. Private companies can play a role in the higher segments of housing, but everyone should be able to live under a roof.

Perfect example of the #1 problem with our healthcare. Major for profit corporations ahs been allowed to take over just about all of it. They care nothing about the patient other than how much they can take them for. And now they're taking over private practices so you can no longer talk to your doc unless you make an appointment 6 weeks or more out.

Or being low wage and having 25% of your take home pay stolen by medical wage garnishments. Yes, I call it 'stolen' and I'll die on that hill. Those who make $7.25 an hour get every cent above 29 hours stolen from them. Let me explain why I use 'stolen'. I can see garnishing due to unpaid credit cards cuz that's done on purpose. One doesn't need to use/max out cards when they can't afford them. But getting ill, needing hospitalization? That can not be helped. So the poor worker who is barely getting by with normal take home now has 25% stolen for months to years upon years. Get a 2nd job and they take 25% of that too. And no one can afford ch7 bankruptcy since that's $1400+ needing to be paid in full before it can be discharged. Poor people get severely punished for daring to get sick/injured. It's not right and it's not fair.

The truth of it: a man who survived the initial wave of covid with over a million dollars in medical debt, and a certain president who denied covid, spouted lies about those reporting it, and fed the people idiotic alternative treatments, such as horse wormer, bleach, and sunshine as a solution - walks out of the hospital after his bout of covid without owing a dime, and then calls those who didn't survive, "weak". HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE? The world has lost its mind.

I am a psychologist. If you were diagnosed some time ago, you may not be familiar with a “level”. The current DSM-V criteria include levels of severity for the social-communication and for the repetitive behavior criteria, based on the level of support a person needs related to such.

I only partially agree, yes people should talk to a professional and prevent false diagnosis, and some people lie to get attention. But there are people who aren't able to get a proper diagnosis. This can be the result of a variety of variables in each individual person's life. I, for example, am currently not "officially" diagnosed because my autism was undetectable due to my heightened angsiety during the time of my exam. I am unfiagnosed despite all of the many proffessionals I was ABLE to talk to agreeing that I have autism. And I am one of a lucky few examples that was ABLE to talk to my parents, ABLE to talk to my doctor, and ABLE to afford those types of appointments. Women are harder to diagnose because mental illness isn't studied nearly as much in us. So yes, people should be cautious to diagnose themselves, as well as be cautious of believing people online who self-diagnose, but sometimes that isn't an option.

I'm curious. Why the desire to have that particular label? You had an exam and it was negative. Even if you do have some mild traits. What does having this "diagnosis" provide. You don't need to be autistic to have permission to have whatever quirks you have. And getting the diagnosis doesn't help you with medication. Is there a specific type of therapy you're hoping to get by having this label? I just don't understand why people get so invested in having a particular MH diagnosis.

some guy in TN tried this. His "prank" was to run at an unsuspecting person while waving a large knife while a friend videoed the reaction. TN is a Constitutional Carry state. Predictable results occured.

Fentanyl. I had an 18 year old niece who died from taking a pill she thought was a painkiller, but it was fentanyl and she was gone in 20 minutes. Her "friends" did nothing to help her. Nobody was charged for her death even though they knew who the drug dealer was. Talk to your kids about fentanyl! No family should have to go through this nightmare.

I'm sure there is more to the story than that tiny quote actually said. Chances are the friends were unaware that anything was actually wrong, not that they "did not even care". Similarly, charging someone with the death requires proof (and a pretty high burden at that) so "knowing who the drug dealer was" probably isn't enough. Yeah that situation sucked and it's awful, but there is always more to it.

My boyfriend was on Fentanyl for 2 years, because he had stage 4 cancer with two big bone metastases. It's a damn good medicine if used properly. He got rid of the Fentanyl patches step by step after he got better.

Problem is that it has a use in a medical setting. It's the illegally made impure stuff that's the issue. Illicit drugs are already 'banned', but folks still want to 'try' them. Yes, talk to your kids/grandkids, but explain the concept of 'peer pressure' as well.

The funny thing about this is my parents are these parents and I went through school in the DEEP south in the 90s early 2000s and I have no problem with any of these. The problem is some people trying to shove antiwhite propaganda at the same time as they try to teach everyone to get along. Yes a lot of white people sucked at different points in time, but I am not them thier actions in noway reflect the current reality or generation and to try to shame whites in general is the same as saying all Arabs are terrorists or all blacks are ignorant gangsters and is in noway true or even close, but just like a bunch of stuff in Femensim it's easier to gather allies if you can set a target for hate which at this point happens to be cis white men.

Aka MND in Australia. When my eldest brother was being diagnosed, this was one of the conditions that was queried. We went for years not having an official diagnosis of anything because the condition just wasn't known about, but it was similar to Muscular Dystrophy/Leukodystrophy too. We are so grateful for the human genome sequencing that has helped a lot of neuro-muscular and degenerative conditions be understood more!

I still think there should be an automatic retirement based on age. You get to be 70-75 and you're out. I know Bernie Sanders is a hero to some, but he's way past that age to retire. Think of Dianne Feinstein. She was senile and frail and still in office in her 80s-90s.

The biggest problem I see with "cancel culture", and most social media based "incidents", are those that jump on the bandwagon without any vetting. For the most part, citizens have no accurate knowledge of the accused or the accusers, and just react. "Innocent until proven guilty" doesn't seem to exist on social media. That being said, those whose words or actions have proven to be poisonous deserve all the "cancel" they get.

Cancel culture is about stopping people working because they have different views from you. It's not about physical violence. It's more about not employing someone, or buying from them, because they don't agree with the trendy ideology of the mob. As Ricky Gervais said, just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right.

Two things. One, if you don't want ads and you don't want to pay for it, how do you expect them to be funded? And two, you have to pay for regular physical newspapers and they're full of ads, so it's not like this is a new phenomenon!

All true but it’s the intrusive ads that get in the way that are the real problem. A sidebar with ads that lets you still see the content is not a problem. A video that pops up in the middle of the screen, blocking the site content with a tiny cross to close it is a real problem. With newspapers, you can skip over the ad pages and the ads don’t cover up the articles.

The housing problem worldwide needs to be tackled NOW if anything because we're pushing people to situations where they have nothing left to lose, and that is the immediate step before violence (tho this old fart wouldn't mind seeing the streets burning if that instilled a bit of fear and empathy in our governments)

Yep, you get 100 homeless people you can have police department move them if they become a problem , you get 1000 or 10000 you looking at having to call in the army and anytime your using military power to control your own civilians your goverment is now a police state. My step-dad is in the bury your head in the sand stage where people with money can do whatever they want and charge whatever they want for rent my response was yeah insurance might cover the first apartment building you lose to a molotov but by the 3rd or 4th they aren't going to payout and now your screwed. He said we'll you will go to jail my response was So? I get free housing and food? Sounds like a win if I'm homeless, maybe even pick up a few hobbies I can't afford now. His face went red. Not my fault the system is broken, you had twice the time to figure that out and fix it then me. 🤷‍♂️

How about the BS banks now charge for everything related to getting a mortgage right down to paying the loan officer to do the job they bank is paying them to do and then the out of control rates. Bank bounced me around to 4 different loan officers on a simple refi. In the end 6 months of payments went missing (in someones pocket no doubt) because they didn't refund the payments I made while they dicked around with a simple refi that should've been done in less than 30 days. And yes they tried to explain away the missing money but in the end I was so fed up with the whole thing I just let it go. Banks are nothing more than federally banked loan sharks.

What is a convenience fee and how the hell is that legal? Who pays their rent with cash or cheques? I let out two properties and the rent is paid by direct debit each month directly from my tenant's bank account into mine. It is much more convenient for both parties and there are no extra fees.

A lot of places here in the US charge you a fee to use your card/bank account rather than cash/check. It's ridiculous. Our city utilities are this way AND their office to accept those physical payments is only open M-F 900-1500, so if you actually HAVE a job to pay your utilities, it's nearly impossible to get there so you end up paying online and getting a $3+ convenience fee every time. So much in the USA is a total scam.

uBlock Origin is fighting the war with YouTube and keeping up with YT's adblocker blocker updates. If you want to watch videos on YT, install uBlock browser extension, (or if installed and your seeing the YT adblocker blocker) go to uBlock settings, click on the Filter List tab, click on Purge all caches, click on Update now. Thats it, no more adblocker blocker, watch all the videos you want ad free. Make sure all other adblockers are disabled for YT. Brave browser users can download from the chrome store.

Small companies, some only one developer, need money to keep going so they release their work as early access. These indie developers have come up with some great games like Kerbal Space Program. I bought that when it was bare bones early access.

Super mario brothers was released for the NES in 1985, having taken two years and $800,000 to develop it sold for $50. Adjusted for inflation, that is a modern day price of $151. Compare that to modern games. AAA titles routinely cost hundreds of millions, and have a development time of 5-8 years. Red dead redemption 2 cost $565 million dollars over 8 years....and launched for $60. It took four times as long to make, costing 706 times as much....only to have a sale price that's equivalent of 39% of what we were paying 30 odd years before. Provided that people actually buy the thing during the initial launch window.....and current data puts those numbers at about 25% of total sales. Most are waiting until prices drop to by 50% or more. Perhaps part of the problem is that modern society is a bit spoilt, doesn't have any semblance of perspective and expects too damn much in return for almost nothing.

I’m 63, and up to about 20 years ago, I thought bedbugs were made up critters for fairytales and children’s rhymes. “Sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite” is something my parents used to say to me when I was little. But noone ever told me they were real. The reason being that they were basically unknown where I live when I was younger. Then again, we were eradicating diseases through mass vaccinations back then too. Oh, how stupid some of us have become, to have opened the door to a return to pre-vaccine levels of easily avoidable diseases, cause a few very stupid and very loud a******s spouting utter B******T and convincing the weak minded and gullible—-and STUPID—-amongst us that science and vaccines are bad but prayers and crystals will keep you and your children healthy. They have found bed bug carcasses in ancient places, we will never be rid of them. And it's not a sign of filth or neglect or squalor, my mother picked them up on a grayhound bus from Arizona to Texas and it took 6 MONTHS to get rid of them completely. THEY'RE EVERYWHERE. And only 2\3 of humans react to the bites, so theoretically you could be getting bit every night and not know it til they multiply enough to become obvious Edit: also they only bite people, and are a strictly people problem, so until all the people go away...

If its done right. The reactor crediting the video (and linking the og video) being genuine reactions (not faked) and not being mean (knowing the difference btwn being critical and just plain rude)

I've seen some adorable ones of musicians being exposed to new things, like a rap artist hearing Weird Al for the first time and being absolutely blown away by his wordplay and ability to spit REALLY fast. He heard Amish Paradise and kept having to pause because he was doubled over cackling with pure delight. He was engaging with it artistically, which I think is the difference.

I like reaction videos. Just need to find the good channels. Watching people discover new music is a very nice thing to watch. I have also discovered bands I had not heard of before through these channels. Plus some like The Charismatic Voice explain how singers are doing what they do.

I enjoy watching people react to music they've never heard before. You learn who the good thoughtful reactors are and follow them and skip the rest who are only in it for the clicks to drive revenue.

THIS inflation is absolutely a scam. Corporations are making record profits by using the excuse of supply chain issues that no longer exist.

What we are experiencing now isn’t true inflation. It is price hiking by corporations to raise costs while not raising pay so they can make record profits. It FEELS like inflation, but the cause is entirely different. It is manufactured, deliberate and (for its creators) working.

Scam? Inflation is a concern when incomes and prices dont align. Best solution to inflation is high income through education.

I don't understand how the economy works when currency is no longer backed by anything. It's basically us believing numbers in a computer and a dwindling amount of paper stiffened with rags as well as annoying coins.

Mosquitos are important to the ecosystem, places that heavily sprayed and eradicated them are now seeing huge impacts to the ecosystem. Use OFF, it works, and the world health organization is working hard to better protect people in more tropical environments without damaging the ecosystem.

Our HOA allows our board member who like to 'decorate' the property to put up large colorful ceramic pots all over the place. Then the plants die, and it fills with water and breeds mosquitoes - we've never seen so many around our complex in the past. But HOA won't do anything about it. The Benson in Renton, WA

I do get tired of the campaigns that raise thousands of dollars for people who were just stupid enough to get themselves into a situation. I have a ton of sympathy, but I'm not paying for some guy's idiocy, or people's normal life circumstances. I don't ask anyone to pay for my normal life s**t, I'm not paying for yours.

For those wondering: broccoli hair style is the hairstyle where its shaved on someone’s sides and most of the time the back of their head where theres some hair left, and then on the top is curly hair. In my opinion, actually pretty cute. (If you need photo, look up
