My Mom Keeps Opening My Mail Even After I Told Her To Stop

Torn Amazon package left on carpet in front of door, showing frustration with family members and online venting.

Me and my friends from out of state made Amazon wishlists to buy Christmas gifts for each other. I woke up today to my mom scolding me for buying more stuff online (I'm trying to save for a car). I had no idea what she was talking about as I hadn't ordered anything. She shows me the items she unboxed and I recognized them as things from my wishlist. The picture is how she left it on the table. My friends and I had planned on doing a group unwrapping call over Discord as soon as we'd all gotten our gifts so we could watch each other open stuff.

This isn't the first time my mom has opened packages of mine, but I was especially upset because she'd ruined the surprise. She got mad whenever I told her again to stop opening my mail, claiming “she doesn't check the labels on every single package that comes in.” I told her she should since there was more than one person living here, and she got even more mad.

Only illegal if it's a postal service delivery. With Amazon, since that's not a federal carrier, the only recourse is a return/refund.

I'd order the biggest fantasy D I L D O I could find and just leave it for her to find. Or maybe start with crotchless panties, then a pink sparkly strap-on. If all of the above somehow fails to teach her a lesson, a book on how to m****r your mother and get away with it (obviously don't actually k**l your mom!).

That would actively pi‍ss me the he‍ll off. Do you have parcel lockers (where couriers can dump parcels and you can collect them, no matter the hour -- assuming, of course, they aren't located in a locked building) or a PO box? Some expense for the latter, though, but arguably better than mummy going through your mail. And yes, also likely illegal, but knowing that and acting upon that are two different things.

Hate to say this, but OP over paid if the knife did that from chicken bones. That knife should be very well tempered, and hardened in such a way that this won't happen. This kind of break only happens when a low quality steel is used to produce the edge. It's also unlikely the knife is actually "hand made", as with these types of knives, the artisan who makes it, always stamps their signature on the blade. As others noted where the image originated "If this was a real hand made damascus knife like the OP claimed, this wouldn't happen. OP got scammed."

The stamp could be on the other side, but yeah, I think it's unlikely. Also, this is an easy fix. Any decent knife shop can re-edge the blade

Yeahhhh..... sorry but that is Not a handmade piece, nor worth 300. That's a mass produced piece of trash. Its hard to tell just from this pic, but the damascus pattern appears to be acid etched on, not actually part of the blade.

It’s totally normal to have both good and bad days with family, because when people are that close, emotions tend to run the show. Some days, they’re absolute lifesavers, the ones helping you plate dinner before guests arrive or cracking jokes that make the whole room lighter. Those moments remind you why family feels like home.

But then there are days when they test every bit of your patience. Maybe they rearrange your things, throw off your plans, or create stress when you’re already juggling too much. Family life is a constant mix of warmth, noise, and emotional weather changes. Most of us simply learn to ride the waves, even when they get choppy.

Still, everyday annoyances are one thing, real emotional strain is another. Sometimes the behavior shifts from mildly irritating to genuinely draining, the kind that wears you down a little more each day. When the atmosphere at home starts feeling heavy, it affects everything: your mood, your energy, even your sense of safety. And the numbers say a lot. In 2020, sociologist Karl Pillemer found that 1 in 4 Americans are estranged from their families, around 67 million people. That kind of distance usually isn’t impulsive; it’s a response to years of hurt or crossed boundaries. For many, stepping back becomes the only way to breathe again.

One big reason people drift from family is toxic behavior, something that rarely shows up all at once. It can be subtle at first: small jabs, dismissive remarks, or constant nitpicking that chips away at you over time. Sometimes it’s manipulation disguised as concern or guilt-tripping dressed up as advice. Before you know it, the atmosphere feels heavy every time you walk into the room. Toxic patterns build quietly, but their impact hits hard. Eventually, people withdraw not out of anger, but out of self-protection.

Either the person was very heavy, did something very silly (like a young child playing around, jumping etc.), the seat got slammed down hard (e.g. a man peed standing up, with the seat up, then when they put it back, it slipped out of their hand), or the seat was old and the material just got tired. Things break sometimes.

A lack of support drives people apart too, and it goes far beyond financial help. Emotional support matters just as much: being heard, being understood, being treated with respect. When family members brush off your feelings or minimize your struggles, something cracks. You stop sharing your wins because they won’t celebrate them. You stop sharing your worries because they’ll only criticize. That kind of emotional distance doesn’t happen overnight; it builds from repeated disappointments. And little by little, people choose space over being dismissed.

Someone From My Family Sprinkles Salt All Over My Bed Once In A While

Close-up of fingers showing tiny plastic microbeads, illustrating moments people were infuriated with family members online.

I know someone might believe that it will cleanse me from demons or somethings, but holy hell, let me lay in my bed without salt on my mattress.

Also my parents didn't believe me or gaslit me for a year. I thought I was going crazy.

Purchase plastic snakes, or spiders, or other offensive creatures, and place them in your bed, so that when the covers are pulled back (for the salt) the culprit gets an unholy shock and a reminder that this is not appreciated. Do not forget you put them there. Repeat until the message gets through.

My Mom Burned All My Drawings

Dry, c*****d paint spilled on grass near a house wall, showing a frustrating family member moment to vent online.

So I’ve been drawing and posting anime girls for a while now and my mom got mad about it. At least I still have previous photos. No drawing today though.

My ex wife did this to my sketch books. She was jealous that I had drawings of women. It didn't matter that they were drawings I did of other paintings. It's not like I had a line of women willing to pose n**e for me. There were male nudes as well, but those bothered her less. She also threw out any photo albums I had where there were photos of other women. Didn't matter what my relationship to those women were. My photos of me working in Japan are gone because my Project Manager was a woman. My photos of me when I was living in Egypt are gone because the daughter of a family friend came to visit me. I am 46 and I have no past.

And of course, changing times play a huge role. Today, people value mental health, boundaries, and individuality more than ever. Many are unlearning old habits, like staying silent to “keep peace” or sacrificing their needs to fit into traditional roles. As people grow, they realize they don’t have to live by outdated expectations. But not everyone in the family evolves at the same pace. When new perspectives clash with old beliefs, the tension can get real.

Then there’s the classic clash of values. Maybe it’s career paths, parenting styles, or even basic outlooks on life. When values don’t line up, even small disagreements can become full-blown arguments. Over time, every conversation feels like stepping on a landmine. What starts as discomfort turns into constant friction. Without mutual respect, interactions become exhausting instead of supportive.

I assume you would still get Q since the letters aren't based on the actual keys, instead on the programming in the keyboard itself. That's why keys in games and systems are able to be customized since it only matters what the programming thinks it is

The OP needs to buy a set of coasters that are thinner. In fact Christmas is coming: ask Dad for a set of coasters as part of their Christmas present, then he’s got an incentive to use them.

We also spoke to Priyanka Baid, a PhD holder and lecturer who runs a boutique in Jodhpur with her mother-in-law. She shared how family dynamics can feel especially intense for women. “As a woman, I feel some people just don’t want to see you grow in your career,” she said. The moment she started achieving more, the criticism followed. Instead of encouragement, she got suspicion and resentment. Her experience mirrors what many women live quietly: success can attract criticism from the very people expected to cheer for you.

All I did was complain because she said she would be home by 11pm from the bar but didnt get home till 3am and I was stuck watching my younger brothers and sisters but had to go to school in the morning. I was 10... this is not isolated and not the worse that happened. When you live with a narcissist alcoholic its a roller coaster. She added, “I’ve faced harsh criticism from some family members saying I take on too many things, like ambition is something to hide.” The negativity wasn’t occasional, it was steady and discouraging. Relatives doubted her abilities, questioned her choices, and acted like her drive was something to apologize for. She kept pushing forward, but the emotional weight of constant judgment took a toll. Eventually, she had to step back to protect her sanity. Sometimes, the people closest to you still don’t understand what growth looks like.

What hurt her most was when the criticism went after her motherhood. “They said I’m a terrible mother just because I work and follow my dreams,” she shared. Those words cut deeper than anything else. Instead of celebrating her strength, some relatives tried to shame her for wanting more out of life. But Priyanka knows ambition and motherhood aren’t enemies, they coexist in millions of women every day. Their judgment forced her to rethink which relationships were healthy for her and which weren’t worth the emotional burden.

It's because they are trapping a bunch of water and moisture in the washer by closing the door all the way against the seal when it isn't in use. It creates an ideal environment for mold/mildew.

Change the PW so he can't use it again.

“Some people you can talk to and reason with,” Priyanka reflected. “But others… it feels like a lost cause.” She learned that not every conversation leads somewhere meaningful. Some relatives are so rooted in their beliefs that even calm explanations bounce right off. Trying to convince them only drains energy that could be spent living life. Over time, she figured out which relationships mattered, and which ones were simply too exhausting to maintain. That clarity became her compass.

Priyanka wrapped up with a message that hits home: “At some point, you have to choose your peace. I’ve learned to cut out the toxic people and keep the ones who genuinely care.” For her, family isn’t just blood, it’s the people who show up with compassion, respect, and honesty. The ones who celebrate your wins and sit beside you in your lows. Anyone who constantly tears you down doesn’t earn that space. Her story reflects what so many quietly feel today: protecting your well-being isn’t selfish, it’s essential.

My Mom Ate My Clearly Labeled Food And Then Lied About It

Two plastic containers with lids labeled no, showing family members' infuriating behavior vented online.

I would like to start by saying I cook all the time. I also buy and share food all the time. She very rarely does either of those things, but whatever I can feed myself. She lets me stay rent free while I’m in college so I figure it works and I can pitch in that way. Anyways, this time I didn’t want to share so I very clearly labeled my food. I come home to eat the food I was looking forward to all day to find this is all she left me. She then tried to blame my grandpa. He has had three strokes and is 86 and does not eat that much. So I tell her I know good and well he did not eat it. I show her it was very clearly labeled “No”. She then lies again and says she didn’t see the label. There is no way she didn’t see the label.

My mom used to force my sister and I to hide snacks we bought for ourselves as teenagers because she uses the inability to eat things is beyond her control. We would hide things in drawers and clothes in closets. Not only would she eat the entire thing, but would leave empty wrappers/containers where she stole them from.

As said above with another thermostat post: Blood thinners. It works both ways, cold or hot. People on blood thinners can get VERY sensitive to temperature changes. Some get too hot at relatively cool (70-80F) temperatures; while others get insanely hot at the similar ranges.

Totally fair and reasonable point. Counter-point, it isn't mother's house. She gets to ASK to keep the temperature at a particular point, not force the issue. That shows a lack of respect. Now we don't know the dynamics of the relationship, but it is generally home owner's rules, not guest's.

There are plenty of people whose parents taught them manners and respect, which they promptly forgot. It is not always the parents' fault. Some offspring will not listen to anyone at any age. I find it hard to believe you were perfect as a parent.

Although the minting mark can make a difference in the value of the penny, in this case, you don't even know the year the penny was made. And for any penny , to be worth between ten and five hundred dollars, it would have to be extremely special. My guess is that this penny is too shiny new to be worth even ten dollars.

Possibly I take TOO much care of mine, but I simply cannot afford to just replace it on a whim, so keep it in the best condition I can. Mom Thinks Basement Sink Is A Portal To The Upstairs Trash Can

Kitchen sink filled with trash and empty bottles showing family member mess causing frustration and venting online.

A lot of foot trafficked in the basement, but I'm the only one who lives down here. She likes to put trash in here and say 'just take 3 things whenever you go upstairs'. But I hardly ever pass the sink when I'm going upstairs due to the layout of the basement. Dishes and rotten food from the downstairs fridge are also dumped here. So I find myself picking up soggy and gross things usually covered in whatever dryer lint she pulled out of the of the machine as well. Waking up to this just pisses me off for some reason.

Sister Washes Her Clothes With Mine And Ruins My Laundry

Hoodie stained with ink spots and discoloration, showing a frustrating family moment shared online for venting.

I intentionally wait to do my laundry on Sundays since 1) the rest of my family do theirs on Friday and Saturday, 2) I prefer to get my laundry done all together so I’m not waiting all day for everything to be ready, and 3) I know how to take care of my clothes. Everyone in the house knows this.

So I bring everything downstairs to wash as per usual, start my first load of laundry, and head back upstairs to clean out my room. When I came back downstairs when the laundry was done, I notice that the washing machine was more full than before.

My sister chooses to put her clothes in the wash. With my clothes still in there. I’m assuming she waited until I was upstairs and threw her clothes in there, but didn’t recognize that she had a pen in her clothes.

Sister Refuses To Actually Clean The Litter Room

Corner of a room with pet sand scattered on the wooden floor, showing frustration related to family members.

My sister and I both have a cat, so we both take care of the cats, I do the food and water, and she does the litter boxes. She's been fussed at by our mom more than just once and she says she'll clean it then she never does, this same thing happened when I used to do the litter and she used to do the water and food bowls. She wouldn't keep those clean or feed them for half a day and it got to the point algae kept forming in their water bowl. So I offered to switch since she said I had the easier task, so we did. Well guess we can see how that turned out.

It seems to have 'lumps' in it, so have the cats been using whatever spilled out of the trays? In that case, you need serious disinfection ASAP, as humans can catch some pretty serious diseases from cat excrement.

    Should I Finally Respond?

For the past month I haven’t replied at all, haven’t sent a dime. Just ignoring the requests. Today, he leveled up: $15.

I don't recall them saying the child was unsupervised, you have made an assumption. It is quite possible they were sitting outside with said child, set their phone down to say give said child a sippy cup or a toy, and the child tossed it. Also, Lady Eowyn is correct, if YOU have PERSONALLY watched a child fall from a balcony, that does say rather unpleasant things about your character. Also, if you believe that open balconies are a problem in your area, perhaps you should take it up with your local counsel and DO something about it.

Father Thinks These Socks Are Still In Usable Condition

Worn-out socks with large holes on feet resting on a couch, illustrating family frustrations shared online.

My 74 year old father is a bit old fashioned and likes to get his monies-worth from his clothes. But for the life of me, I cannot see the point in using socks that literally have 50% of their sole missing.

When asked; he says that 'I like these ones because they are loose fitting and comfortable'. I have tried to explain that we could quite easily get him 'loose fitting' socks that in fact have complete soles and would probably be more usable. He doesn't agree.

What is even more strange is he literally has dozens of pairs of new socks waiting to be worn that people and family have bought him.

My mum always did too, but with five kids they mounted up fast so she stored them in boxes in the shed. A shed that my brother and his mates climbed on the roof of, which led to it bending and getting a leak, destroying a lot of them. I think she still has many that she could save though, even now my youngest sibling is 25. I have done the same for the kids I have babysat and taught, but I laminated them and put them in a folder. It's nice seeing the names that I had forgotten about and the memories coming back.

As a parent, I throw away my kids schoolwork brought home all the time. I look at it and let them show me proudly but then recycle next day but bury it under some other stuff not to upset them. They bring home dozens of pages every week, I can't save it all.

It's recommended that blades are washed blade down because of safety, but they kinda wash better facing upwards, especially if yout utensil basket is quite full. It just depends who you live with and who fills and empties the dishwasher. If kids are involved in anyway, downwards is the only right way, if not, do whatever you like.

I did this too when I was using a dishwasher. I tried putting the knife point down then the point of the knife would get caught in the bottom of the container. Also I put the knife and fork tine up. Also I could get more silverware in the drain container that way.

I'd put them up too because it cleans better and I am an adult, not a little baby.

Buy her some oreo thins, they have less filling than regular oreos, won't be so much waste.

Throwing away this "cookies" is not that bad idea. But I mean whole. Not just the brown part. Oreo tastes like sand with sprinkle of artificial chocolate aftertaste.

Hate to say it, but after fighting with these bags, and having an inordinate number of them have the "resealable" section be welded shut at the factory... I can't blame her.

They really don’t work half the time. Easier to cut the bag open and reseal with a clip.

There are bigger problems here, all of that plastic-wrapped bread, multiple packets opened, none of them properly re-sealed, and if that's what you're eating you don't need a bread bin anyway.
