This Is The Book Of Names In The Auschwitz Museum. It Holds The Name Of Every Known Holocaust Victim
How can anything like this exist and still have holocaust deniers? Nazis? Look at this. Just look at it for a minute and really process this.
And the obvious fact they were soo so meticulous with their horror...yet still people deny...damn people suck
Load More Replies...If the world was to hold a minute of silence for every holocaust victim we would be quiet for 11.5 years
Load More Replies...Sadly, these are just the ones they were able to find and identify. There are whole generations of family lines in that book.
Dose it also include the gypsys, the LGBTQ, the disabled, the political/prisoners of conscience, etc who make up more than 7 million of those killed?
Ooooooh Lawdy
I want to grab it's cheeks and bury my face into it's face. It's so fluffy! And yes, it'll be the last thing I do, but it'd be worth it lol

A Husky Next To A Wolf
Wolf's all like "Nice puppy, niiice puppy. Who's a good boy, whooo's a good boy? *BOOP*"
They're actually not that big. EDIT: Average adult US wolf 79lbs/36kg and 32in/82cm at shoulders, while alaskan husky "between 20 and 26 inches (51 and 66 cm) and weigh between 35 and 75 pounds (16 and 34 kg)". So they're smaller and especially much lighter, but not THAT much smaller. Wolves have the weight and length of a German shepherd, but longer legs hence taller.

I never knew this, but I have always been a fennec fox lover. We get normal red foxes in the UK, I have known a few people over the years who have rescued one and ended up keeping them as a pet. They are very loving, intelligent and affectionate animals and we have monsters in the UK that hunt them on horse back for sport. This is a practice that should be banned, it's barbaric.
Upvote because I thoroughly agree about hunting (they try to justify it by saying they keep vermin at bay) but I would never want a fox as a pet.

Load More Replies...This Absolute Unit Of A Wombat
While they are huge, this article is false. Wombats may have multiple burrows but can obviously only occupy one at a time and there is no such herding happening.
Although the herding aspect is obviously false they have been allowing other animals into their burrows.
I'm more concerned about the size of the animal in the pic - I thought that was photoshop! (By the way, it's fire-affected, not effected.)
These guys are pretty cool, they have tough skin that acts like armor on their backs so they can block their tunnels if need be, and their pouches are backwards so that dirt doesn't get inside with their joeys while they dig.
I thought that photo was fake but then I googled biggest wombat and holy c**p. They are not all that big but many are in the ballpark.
Hit one with your car on the road, and your car will be seriously damaged, more likely written off. They are muscle heavy...not that we want anyone to hit these cube pooping mammals, but sadly it happens...you might survive to tell the tale

This Baobab Tree Is Said To Be 6000 Years Old
Surprised that anything that old could survive humanity that long. That a war didn't knock it down or someone didn't try.to make firewood out of it. May it live another 6000 years. Look at how much humanity has changed our world in 350 years...
This is not a 6000 year old baobab. According to Smithsonian Magazine: "The oldest known living African baobab, the Dorsland tree of Khaudum National Park, Namibia, still lives despite the senior stems having recently toppled. It is approximately 2,100 years old.*
I love tall trees they make me so happy for some reason. It’s amazing to think of what they may have lived through. Undisturbed wildlife in general makes me happy :)
When you want to run errands without the kids so you tell them it's important they stay home and guard the tree. lol Weird to think of a tree this old. I've seen some really old giant redwoods in California. I have some things in my house from the 1800s and that is weird to think about - but kind of a drop in the bucket compared to 6K

Fat animals in captivity make me sad. If you keep an animal in captivity you are responsible for its health.

ohmigod a giant Banton chicken look at the floof legs LOOK AT THE FLOOF LEGS
I'm assuming you mean "Bantam", which means "small fowl", such as the Seabright & Pekin chickens (the ones I used to breed). There is no such thing as a Giant Bantam (it's like saying "a huge tiny..."). You can get bantam versions of a lot of chicken breeds, but those are not true bantams. The one(s) pictured looks like Cochin (but could be a Brahma), I used to have some in black, buff, & blue. They get massive!

These Blackberries
I wonder if they have much flavor. I had access to a field where a berry farmer had some different varieties of raspberries and blackberries for testing. A variety of blackberry had much larger berries than in the wild (maybe 1/2 - 2/3 the size pictured). The vines were much less "spikey" making them easier to pick. A win and and a win. BUT - the berries were sadly lacking in flavor compared to the wild blackberries that grow all over around here.
So what's the name of the nuclear plant near by? Might want to lay off eating those monsters
This Massive Boi A Japanese Fisherman Found
I feed a bunch of strays who now live on my porch and one of them is this massive black cat called Alois that everyone on my street calls the panther. He's not far from being this big. I never saw a cat this size apart from Mainecoons. On the other hand I also have MiniCat, the smallest cat I have ever seen. At 2 years old she's the size of a 4 months old kitten.

Absolute Unit Of A Bison
Love them from a distance please. They are literal tanks on legs. And the bulls don’t moo, they do this creepy roar thing.
Load More Replies...Google tells me : "The heaviest wild bull ever recorded weighed 2,800 pounds (1,270 kg) and, in captivity, the largest bison weighed 3,801 pounds (1,724 kg)." For comparison, we used to have a Charolais bull named Samson who weighed in about a ton. We took him to the fair one year and he made the other cattle looks small. And that 'largest bison' is almost double his weight. Holy Moly and so on.
And yet idiots get out of their cars and try to pet these beasts
Load More Replies...When used to humans they can be quite gentle though still very dangerous. It's amazing to see how well they are bouncing back. If bison wasn't so expensive I would 100% switch from beef. It's so much better <3
This Fella
The way the plaque is positioned makes me think this is, sadly, not a living creature...
In Alaska there was a stuffed grizzly where you could stand right up close to it. The paws / claws are just MASSIVE. Each claw was roughly entire length of my hand from wrist joint to finger tip and most folks think I have big hands. It made those stories of "a bear knocked off somebody's head" much more believable.
Depending on when this was stuffed it may be exaggerated. But to be sure I would need a banana for scale.
Let me help. Lots, that bear is lots of bananas big.

Load More Replies...A happy memory for me is that in the 90s I got to pet the giant tortoise from the original 1967 Dr. Dolittle film. I watched the movie in theaters as a boy so it was weird to run across him. (her?) He was living out his retirement years at Reptile Gardens USA in South Dakota. He was in a large cement 'circle about 18" tall which kept him in but you could sit on the wall and visit. Nobody was waiting so I just sat on the little wall and visited him for a while. He was an absolute unit and super friendly. By "pet" I mean he really liked having his neck and arm pits scritched. Basically the parts of him he would have trouble rubbing against things himself due to being close to the shell. I did not try (cuz rude) but he was so big if I sat on his back he could totally have carried me around. It was weird to think I was an adult in my 30s but this guy was a lot older than me. I believe I read he has since passed but he lived a long life and was apparently well cared for.
Sadly not all islands, they get very little space to roam freely (I only know of Moyenne Island and Cousine Island, both tiny), some privately owed enclosures mainly as magnet for tourists, some are in botanical gardens on Mahe and some on La Digue. Many tourists treat them appallingly, feeding them c**p, having their kids sit on them taking pictures, heck even having full grown fat a*s adults sit on them for pictures. Seychellois let anything happen in their country as long as they get paid, it’s sad to watch where it’s heading.

The Mighty Mississippi And Her Many Tributaries. An Absolute Unit Of A River System
For an idea of what a unit the Amazon is, its discharge is TWELVE times that of the Mississippi-Missouri-Ohio river. (Everything West of St Louis is fairly arid. East is more rainy, but still no way near rain-forest rainy.)
That's the Mississippi drainage basin. These water bodies do not all connect like this. Why is this thread so full of such outright incorrect information?
Is there any room left for roads, houses, workplaces in these areas? (Britisher here.)
Tiny bits of both MI's upper and lower peninsulas do drain eventually into the Mississippi (via the Lac Vieux Desert in upper and some ditches that make it to the Kankakee river in the lower). Plus a few small acres of SC do drain into the Mississippi eventually also.
This would be more credible if the map didn't show Ontario as a massive lake

I Was Told This Sub Might Like To See This Giant Lemon From My Sister-In-Law's Lemon Tree. She Gets A Few Of These Every Year. Regular-Sized Lemon For Scale. It's 5 Lbs!
This may be because lemon trees are a hybrid. One of the parent plants is citron. I'm guessing this tree was started from a seed, and when you plant lemon seed the resulting plant may not produce true, but a mixture of the parent plant(s). I'm a plant nerd, and I approve this message. 😎

I would like to point out that huntsman spiders are also afraid of humans. So if they see you, their day is ruined as well. Some of them are actually way more social than a lot of humans - they live with their family of up to 300 members (maybe don't think too long about that if you see one in your home), they share their food with each other and their bite (if they bite at all, because they really want to stay away from humans) is harmless to humans. Meaning your bite could hurt the poor thing much, much more than the other way around. https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/388489-Delena-cancerides

I recently saw a YouTube video in which the argument was made that he is probably also the tallest man that ever will live, because we have good ways to treat the condition that caused his giantism now
Depends, you're probably right, but there is a lot of the world that doesn't have easy access to the medical treatment. Plus there is a boy, who right now is 11 years old, and 6ft 9, with plenty of time left to grow. His mother however, does happen to be the tallest woman in India though, so it shows that in some ways, height is genetic. But it is unlikely that even with genetics someone would reach or surpass wadlows height, surely.

It's colour you smear on to show the muscles better.
Load More Replies...At this point it's considered suicide, your body is not meant to be pushed to those limits. Working out and getting strong is good but when you go to these extremes you are destroying your whole body. You may look strong but you pretty much cut your lifespan in half and you will have so many medical problems and complications.

OP says Alaska! Runs a mighty fine price of $17!
Load More Replies...For years there was a local burrito place called Banditos Burritos. Their burritos were about like this. Just loaded. Sometimes I could eat a whole one but usually it was save the rest for dinner kind of thing. Sadly they got closed down due to legal issues. It wasn't just a name. They had ties to the Banditos biker gang and a number of years back there was a sting operation and a bunch of arrests. (not for the burritos - for other crimes.)
That reminds me of the size of the tacos at rolando's super taco in San Antonio, like 4 times the size of a normal taco... best part is when we would make a taco run at work and the new guy would insist on 3 tacos not realizing what he was getting into, and watching the fool TRY to actually eat all 3 of them...
I love a good taco stand. That's the one thing I miss about living in Arizona. My mom continues to go to my favorite hole-in-the-wall when she visits family.

the color of the skin of the banana doesn't matter. inside, the fruit is probably just the right amount of sweet. you can put a whole banana in the embers, if it's black on the outside, it's cooked and sweet on the inside. Maybe it was in the refrigerator and that's why it has a brown skin. you can't tell what's inside from what's outside.

55in TV vs. The New 98in We Sell
Up until just a few years ago Panasonic was still selling 100 inch to 152+ inch Plasma screens, spoiler alert after their initial production run they had to be made to order, took months to be delivered and the cheapest (100 inch) was almost $100,000 AUD - at the time AUD was almost on parity with USD so ~$99,000 USD I guess. The place I was working at wanted to order 4 of the 100" ones until they realised it was going to cost over half a million with shipping and fitting (plasma screens are HEAVY and very fragile so not the stuff you just get a couple of IT staff to put on a VESA wall mount... it needed a authorised AV company to setup else, worst case, lose your warranty). Still, having seen one of them installed at an exhibit in Japan to say I've never seen better since

This Cruise Ship
I know some people love big ships like that, but I want one small enough to feel like I'm actually on a ship, not a floating hotel.
This is a render, "She is scheduled to enter service in 2024, and will have a gross tonnage of 250,800, making her the largest cruise ship in the world by gross tonnage." according to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icon_of_the_Seas)
So this thing is longer than a US Nimitz class aircraft carrier (approx 3.5 football fields long) and can carry 1k+ more people. It was hell with about 5k people, I couldn't imagine 6-7k. And they can dump untreated, raw sewage into the gulf and Caribbean greater than 3 nm from land. Bigger isn't always better. I bet this thing is either going to cause an environmental disaster or isn't going to be able to handle choppy water.

They used to call the idea an Arcology, I wasn't aware anyone had ever really tried one. It probably would've done better to be a hexagon, i.e. fold it up a bit. You'd get a bit tired of having to walk a linear kilometer to get to something at one end, from the other, but a closed shape like a hexagon would let you have a nice courtyard/central area and the same amount of building, plus being able to cut across and general shorter distances.
Imagine the noise of 5000 windows all opened to the same inner courtyard. 500 arguments, 200 people playing the piano, the snoring, the TVs, the stereos on too loud..... nope
