Being Able To Take Responsibility For Pets And Plants

Being Able To Take Responsibility For Pets And Plants

My mom clipped off a part of her christmas cactus, which I grew up with and have fond memories of in our dining room. Gave a piece to each sibling to care after. My wife and I are both awful with plants and it did not survive, despite us being told that it would be incredibly hard to kill. Thankfully, our children are not dead yet and our dogs are doing well so we're not total monsters.

my wife has a Christmas cactus cutting from her mother's from her grandmother's. It is over 100 years old.

My mom stole grass from the beach (in which that specific beach told us not to do) and she kept it alive for a whopping 2 weeks.

I am responsible enough to know to not buy plants. And to give any plant someone gifts me back to them so I'm not responsible for it's death. Everyone who truly knows me knows not to give me plants.

No need to know how to look after pets or houseplants if you don’t intend on having any. Caring for the natural environment so wild species can thrive, that’s another matter

Why? Why must I? I don’t want pets or plants. I have 3 children who I have managed to take responsibility for since I was 30, why do I need to add pets and plants to that?

Well, you know, the dog comes and sits in front of you, mouth watering, tail wagging, gets up, walks toward bowl, comes back and sits down again, until you get the message. Plants don't.

I check my personal inbox about once a week to once a month, when I'm expecting a specific email. Similarly, I don't check the horizon for smoke signals or ride my horse down to the Western Union station to check for telegraphs anymore.

Where is the option "I carefully control who gets my email addresses, and as such don't have thousands to deal with in the first place. And so, I open each, determine if I should file/delete/do something. And so, my inbox is usually empty."

I get leftovers from the previous night from the fridge or pull something out of the freezer. Also, option 3 applies but that still doesn't rule out option 1 or 2. (But I don't get takeout multiple times a month, that's not such a big thing here).

I'm in my 40's and I hate small talk. I've never been good at it and would rather do almost anything else. Probably doesn't help that I'm also one of those people who is perfectly comfortable with silence. If I have something to contribute to a conversation I will but I don't feel the need to fill silence with talk of the weather.

Absolutely. I dress like the village idiot most of the time. In autumn and winter, I dress elegantly in a serial killer or psychopath jacket, depending on how rainy or cold it is. For special occasions, I have styles in my wardrobe like a mushroom trip, it came from the 90s or a depressed gallery owner who came to work straight from a funeral.

I love to cook. I can barbecue for thirty-plus, create a fine dining dinner for eight to twelve, and cook a celebratory meal at Christmas for twenty. I’m proud that my friends never hesitate to accept an invitation to dine at my house. Having said that, eating at a restaurant means no cleaning up.

I registered for a china pattern when I got married back in 99. I got a few settings and I have never used it. Same with the good silver and stem ware. I knew deep down I would never entertain, but I just thought it was something everyone did when they got married.

Never understood this. Why is a knowledge of old material better than a knowledge of contemporary material? All of our school projects were on "classics" and they were all depressing or violent. Handmaid's tale, Of Mice and Men, Macbeth. Even the anthologies were about famine, war and disease. Is it only worthy of note if it makes you feel like c**p.

100% disagree with this one. If you enjoy "classics' then by all means read them, discuss them, do whatever. But I don't think it's a necessity for anyone who has reached 30 to have a basic knowledge of them. I read some classics in high school like The Scarlet Letter and Billy Bud and HATED them. I read Shakespeare and enjoyed it. This is just about personal taste and no one should feel ashamed they didn't like or make the time to read Moby D**k or A Tale of Two Cities.

Have to disagree with what you said about movies. There are true masterpieces, movies that changed the perception and the lives of their viewers, movies that turned everything upside down, movies that are pure revolution. They don't end up with the same few themes, and if, it would be the same with music, books and every kind of art.

That is two different things. I can very well have a perfect excuse (on forehand) not to go or do something I don't want to. Yet, when you have my word to do something, or to go somewhere, I'll stick to that if anyhow possible. And of course life happens, so it is not always possible, but there is something about being trustworthy and thinking before answering and then have to make excuses afterwards ....

Dry frying pan. From cold, heat gently with a lid. When the pizza is hot, remove and then fry an egg in the pan with a little oil. Two slices of pizza (toppings internal) make a great egg banjo.

I'd love to take up stained glass, but I don't have the room.

I'm cheap. I hate spending money. That's why I have decent savings.

I really don't have a budget. I know what my expenses are and my money comes in and my money goes out.
