We humans have invented loads of things throughout our history. Some inventions are absolutely amazing and we cannot imagine our lives without them. That includes medicine, technology, transportation and many more things. However, not all the things we invented are that good; some are even devastating.

Redditor NPT1506 asked internet users: "What is the worst human invention ever made?" and many chimed in to answer. From bombs to ads, people prove that lots of things we came up with are really not that great. What do you think is the worst invention? Share your thoughts in the comments down below!

For-profit healthcare system. There is no reason people should suffer financial burden seeking the right to live a healthy life.

IamtheTruman Report

The same redditor that asked the question gave us an amazing interview. First we asked them what they think is the worst invention ever: "I have thought a lot about it, and I would say it probably is single-use plastic, because many tons of it are now breaking down into toxic compounds that are lurking in every corner of the Earth and these compounds will stay there for a very long time unless future generations know how to deal with it."

We also wondered what the main problem with inventions today is. In their opinion: "I think that inventions are now more and more modern and can be applied in many cases, but there is a problem that the creators focus on the profits that they bring them rather than improving and upgrading so that it can be used to maximum capacity and suitable for everyone!"

I am going to defend my religion and all others as best as I can and to be honest it’s kind of depressing that I’m going to get downvoted into oblivion for it. Anything can be used the wrong way, and some people use religion, but if they didn’t have it they’d just find something else, so let true believers live their lives without being insulted left and right here

I can't agree with you more. Religion is not the biggest enemy of humanity. Humanity is the biggest enemy of humanity. It's man's indifference to man that causes problems, not Gods indifference to humanity. He doesn't have any. I wish that people would actually look at what Religions teach and that the ones who live those teachings are usually more quiet and kind about it. It's the zealous idiots that give it such a bad name. Doing evil acts in the name of Religion doesn't mean Religion is bad. It means that a bad person did something evil and wrongly attached Religion to it.

Part of my anthropology minor included religious studies and one of the most fascinating classes I took was hermeneutics (study of the bible from a historical and cultural viewpoint.) It was such a wonderful class as there were students of different faiths and we were compelled to interpret parts of the bible from a historical, cultural, and linguistic viewpoint. Our professor made us ask questions and I truly think it forced a lot of people outside of their comfort zone. Many people can quote important parts of the bible, but are unable to view them from a sociocultural and historical context.

Religion is not the problem. It is the way people abuse it. It is used as a facade for powerful people, but when it is used in a right way, it can massively impact others for good. I believe, for instance, that the Bible was never intended as a weapon, but as the ultimate self-help book that people can use to be humble and read ALL of it instead of ignoring the parts that you don't want to hear about.

Like all the parts about rape and murder? About the vengeful, jealous god who has decided that we're all guilty because someone ate off a particular tree once so now we have to believe some convoluted story about him sending himself to sacrifice himself to himself as some sort of loophole around it, and if we don't believe this then he will torture us for all eternity? I could go on and on about the messed up stories in the Bible but my point is that the odd uplifting "love thy neighbor" certainly doesn't make up for all the violence, xenophobia etc.

I say this as a Christian... I agree. Humans can be so hateful towards each other, and religion seems to get used as an excuse to attack each other and take the 'holier than thou' attitude. I don't believe that that's what God wants for us, and it makes me so sad. Whatever your beliefs are, we are all in the same boat, and we should love and respect each other. Whatever your gender, sexuality, or ethnicity; we are equals.

I have a relative that constantly claims how the world is going downhill as Christian values are being decimated by "woke" people. They freak out and yell at you when you use God's name in vain yet say hateful things against nonbinary people and occasionally people of different political standings. They also believe that the Covid vaccine is killing people and that people who are boosted are stupid. I wish I could educate this relative yet I feel like they are so blinded by this fake Evangelist "white Jesus" b******t that they refuse to learn and challenge their ignorance. Blind religion is terrifying. Some people who I've met that say they follow the way of Jesus have been so incredibly ignorant and nasty.

Evil people twist great things to horrible uses. Religion is no different. There are plenty on penitent people around the world who use their faith only for good. You don't blame the guy who invented trains because Hitler used them to transport jews to the holocaust. Don't blame religions like Christianity and Hinduism that teach pacifism and love because evil men twisted them for power.

Except religion has never actually BEEN all that “great”. Not through all of history. It didn’t need to be twisted to horrible uses, it was designed that way from the start. “You will believe what I believe or you are evil and shall die. You will obey me blindly since I claim to speak directly from the only true god/gods, or you shall die. If you’re not a christian, you’re a subhuman without any morality or sense of decency and will burn in hell”. Historically it’s ALWAYS been about power and money and no current humanitarian notions can change any of that. Soo… Well, no; “great” really isn’t the word I would use, unless if referring to size alone.

People who abuse Religion for self gain are what's wrong with it. Religion is where the basic laws that govern society come from. Ten Commandments are the source of where it's illegal to kill, steal, etc. My church, The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints has done an unfathomable amount of good in the world, The Church gave $906 million to Charity, and everyday Latter-day Saints spent 6.8 million hours in humanitarian service. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints engaged in 3,909 humanitarian projects in 188 countries in 2021 alone! In my life personally, they have helped us with food, rent, and presents for Christmas. They have also helped nearly eliminate homelessness in the state of Utah. This is only one project that they have been a part of. Literally giving homes to the homeless. I hate these blanket statements against Religion. https://www.deseret.com/2017/11/2/20622520/lds-church-donates-10-million-to-construct-housing-for-homeless-in-salt-lake

It depends on the religion. We have to stop grouping all faiths into one bad thing when that simply isn't true. Some are bad, yes, or have more than their fair share of bad people. But if a person is happy with their faith, doesn't cram it down others' throats, doesn't hurt others, doesn't judge and lets others live their lives in peace, we shouldn't demonize them.

All religions claim that they’re the one true church of God but if you look at their members, bunch of hypocrites. I might get flack for this but it’s my own opinion. If one doesn’t agree with it, then fine but don’t try to change my mind. For me, I can praise and serve God in my own way without having to be a member of a church or religion.

Religion had its time and place. When we encountered our first tornado, yeah we needed SOME kinda placeholder explanation. "AHHHH FARTING DUST DEMONS!" But now it's time to move on and realize religion in any form should be private and relegated to dealing with the afterlife; one of the few places we still have a placeholder question mark (though if they all dried up I wouldn't exactly press F)

Those willing to commit horrible acts against others will use any excuse available to them: be it religion, science, nationalism, etc. Each and every cause can be used against others if given the chance. Eugenics proponents used science to dehumanize racially, atheists used national interests to wipe out millions in Soviet Union and other places. Even now it can be argued that pro-lgbtq use mutilation on minors for sex change in the name of freedom of choice. I would even go so far as argue that religion with all its flaws has still kept and is keeping most people in check from carrying out their personal interest at the horrible expense of others. Outliers and power hungry tyrants will always use what ever is at their disposal. Name any cause you hold dear, you better believe it can be used against others. Only personal growth and individual enlightenment can help avoid that.

While nukes are horrible beyond imagination, humanity learned to avoid them as a way to ensure their own survival, it's wise, but egoistical nonetheless. Chemical weapons on the other hand traumatized the f**k out of the survirvors and the ones who called the attacks and got to see the aftermath. They were so horrible that many soldiers deserted after using it and many went mad. I wish never having to see the skin melting off in the face of a barely alive toddler.

Throughout the last century we successfully banned almost all of those - the 1925 geneva protocol, the 1980 chemical weapons convention, among others, but I'm afraid when the next generations start to forget the horrors of chemical warfare, it will resurface in the likes of whats happening with fascism.

I think despite the weapons being horrible themselves, they secured peace between major factions in the last decades, without the MAD principle nothing would have stopped another massive war in Europe after WW2. They are the perfect example for the saying "the best weapon is the one you never have to use"

**Corporations.**

- Legal entities in that they can own property.
- Immortal.
- Fines of millions of dollars have little effect when their profits are in the billions.
- Able to shift their revenues from nation to nation to avoid paying taxes.
- Zero ethics...if you won't evict Grandma, then we'll fire you and put someone in your chair that will.
- Able to donate a pittance of their profits to politicians who now reside in their pockets, and legislate to serve the corps and not the people.
- Anyone who defies a corporation will be ground to dust by their legal team.

Somewhat ironic since Bored Panda is one of the worst. I have to repeatedly reload the page until it finally gives up on asking me to disable my ad blocker.

Single ply toilet paper is used in public bathrooms and other places that have high volume because it breaks down more easily and is less likely to clog pipes and back up the system.

I’ll add to this: hand dryers. They are way too noisy, barely dry your hands and the heat they pump out is probably not good for the environment. Paper towels are much better.

"Why Does This Even Exist?" 35 Inventions That People In This Online Thread Find Strange And Useless This will be a hot take, but hear me out- cars.

They kill 40,000 people in the US every year,

They are the reason most cities here are unwalkable, which is a huge factor leading to obesity and heart disease (so add many more thousands to the death toll indirectly),

They are the least efficient, least safe, most expensive way for people to commute,

They chew through fossil fuels and other valuable resources in droves,

They raise the price of engaging with society by thousands of dollars between the initial cost, fuel costs and repair costs,

And they turn otherwise reasonable people into raging, belligerent a******s.

I was born in 1960, when leaded gas was all that was sold. I was in my twenties when unleaded was first offered, catalytic converters were required in all new cars, and they stopped selling leaded gas (older cars could run on both unleaded and leaded, but newer cars with catalytic converters could only run on unleaded). What pisses me off the most is that I didn’t learn until about twenty years later that everyone of us who was alive before they stopped selling leaded gas has trace amounts of lead—-a heavy metal—-in our lungs, simply because we breathed before lead was removed from gasoline, because the lead in the gas was expelled into the air in a car’s exhaust. No one mentioned that at the time. We were poisoned without even being given a warning or heads up about it. Big f*****g secret to keep profits rolling in. Big Oil, big business. M***********s.

Fun fact: mustard gas was intended to immobilize but not kill. That way it takes two soldiers out of the game--the victim and the rescuer. I worked as an environmental clean up contractor at an army base so this is what we were told. On the bright side, a bacteria was discovered that would consume and neutralize mustard. Haven't heard of any mutant, mustard devouring monsters in my region-yet.
