Some resentments fade with time. Others… stick around like a family heirloom. One day a company “misplaces” your order, turns a basic return into a scavenger hunt, or slaps on a fee they swear was totally disclosed—and suddenly you’re on year 12 of refusing to buy so much as a pack of gum from them. The line’s been crossed, and it’s not getting uncrossed.
Redditors marianneouioui and istrx13 recently asked people to share which businesses they’re stubbornly boycotting and won’t spend another dime at after getting screwed over, and their responses are hilariously personal. Spoilers: more than a few of these grudges are old enough to vote. Read them below.

Nestle.... "Water isn't a human right..."
F those guys...
Also, they're really hard to avoid....
Worked for them. The township they use to draw water from sued them for: Demanding they be assessed as an Ag entity regarding property taxes. They bought up most of the land between the spring site and pumping station(they truck the water 35 miles), stripped the land of improved value(houses, barns, garages) thereby reducing taxable value, THEN had the cojones to claim an Ag designation. Thankfully the judge didn't play. LOTS of companies out there that bottle spring water so, no loss.
Not petty, nestle is pure evil and I applaud anyone that takes the time and effort to boycott them
Seriously, really hard to avoid. Especially when you factor in their subsidiaries.
Anything Elon Musk related.
I would choose to own a Yugo, before I would ever own a Tesla. I personally hope that he ships himself off to Mars, and never returns.
Hobby Lobby will not provide healthcare that covers birth control to their employees. I have never shopped there, and don’t plan to EVER because of this. Also ChickFillA. Both of these businesses are less than 1block from my home, but I will take a bus across town to get what I need and avoid them!
If people are peaceful about their religion, it's private and I'll leave them to it. Once they start shouting about it, that topic is now in play ... Matthew ch 6 v 6, I'm told.
Load More Replies...I won't go to either one for the same reasons. This isn't petty, it's standing up for people's rights. You also have the right to not share medical information, that's private. Hobby Lobby thinks it's their right to but into your medical information and treatment, and dictate what it is (only if you're female of course. Males can do what they want). It should be illegal.
We've never eaten at Homo-Phob-E Chicken either. Or Hobby Lobby, thank goodness. Both SO EWWWW. Hobby lobby tried to make it here and didn't last a year!
For those that aren't aware: Hobby Lobby has been caught in possession of other nation's antiquities.

Locked my keys and phone in my car while picking up 6 pizzas at domino’s. They would not let me use the phone to call my wife to bring spare key. Will not go back. It’s been 11 years.
Oh it is terrible. I always go local, and luckily I live in a very pizza friendly city.
Load More Replies...Use a local pie place instead; they're much friendlier and the product is usually much better.
Our local pie place is way friendlier, unfortunately the pies are actually quite ew in comparison. The base is crazy sweet (good for a chocolate pie but not for non-dessert pizza), the ingredients are usually a bit stale, and they won't add more sauce in spite of it being crazy thin. I go there for their not pizza products, sadly Domino's is the best pie place for over 20 miles.
Load More Replies...You'd be better off eating the boxes they come in rather than the pizza.
I stopped with the Domino's, after the "Catholic City" Ave Maria story came out in the 90s.
Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby. They both support fundamentalist Christian freaks. No thanks!
FYI, they are OWNED by fundamentalists, which is fine - as an individual, believe what you will. But in both instances, they, as corporate entities, are allowed to expound those beliefs in how they treat their employees, (ie, no healthcare for transgender care, birth control, etc). That is f****d up.
My city won't allow Chick-fil-A to open here because they are not open on Sundays. No Popeyes either-one is 11 miles away
I worked at Wal mart for a month as a teen. They forced me to work overtime and did not pay me. I won some cash back in a class action lawsuit.
I refuse to spend a dime there. 27 years and counting.
I shop very minimal there. Unfortunately it is the only main type of store of that kind that is somewhat close to me. The next closest store of that kind is at least 30 minutes away.
I have no choice. 1. I'm on a fixed income, and can't afford to pay 3-4 times the price somewhere else. (Example: Benadryl at Walgreens is $5.99 for 25. At Walmart, you get 100 for that price.) 2. It's the only store of its type anywhere near me. I'm disabled and can't drive an hour to shop, spend an hour shopping, then drive an hour home, drag everything up a flight of stairs, and unpack it and put it away. It would c*****e me for days.
Load More Replies...I've always had a strong dislike of Walmart, but I haven't set foot in one since they wrongfully fired my mom due to her health conditions (that she had doctors notes for). She could've sued but didn't have the money and was scared to. A$$HOLES.
Once you realize there's nothing Walmart has that you can't get elsewhere, it's pretty easy to avoid Walmart. Especially when you take a bus and refuse to walk through their vast parking lot in -35 C windchill.
Starbucks. Bad coffee and even worse labor practices. No way am I paying a fiver for burnt coffee.
I live for coffee but the two times I have gone there it was awful. Just not for me. I've not been back in over a decade.
I actually like the taste of their coffee, but you're right, it's too expensive.
Starbucks in Melbourne (Australia) has a reputation for bad coffee, whereas Melbourne generally has a reputation for having good coffee/being coffee snobs. So the only people you really see in Starbucks here are a) tourists and b) students sucking up the free wifi, or c) maybe someone needing the loo and feeling bad about not buying anything.
I don't know what tastes more like burnt black licorice, Melita or Starbucks coffee. I wish Van Houtte wasn't so d**n expensive. I want to bring a bag of that to work as a treat.
Bank of America. They charged me 33 dollars a month for only having 5 dollars in my account for 6 months. I was 8.
Credit Unions are the only way to bank. I used a private ATM that charged me $3.25 service charge and my credit union refunded me that amount even though I really didn't mind paying the charge
Preach! If you watched "A Wonderful Life" this week then...what are you waiting for.
Load More Replies...BofA started this s**t back in the 80s when they started charging customers for not having a minimum amount in their savings accounts. In the beginning, it was sort of justified. Most people kept $1 in their savings account so they had an account they could cash their paychecks against and it cost the bank a certain amount to maintain those accounts. But now most people don't need to cash paper checks and their paychecks go directly into their accounts, so the banks don't have to have a large number of tellers anymore and the amount to maintain accounts digitally isn't that much. So it's all greed at this point, like airlines charging for picking certain seats.
Bank of America sponsored a debate titled "has feminism failed women?" 🙄 it's a matter of time under this regime women lose access to having their own bank accounts.
This calls for placards outside every branch. Carried by 8-year-olds, just to make the point. With parents there for safety, ofc.
Uber stole $2 from my bank account (1 buck, twice), and i was broke that week, resulting in 2 NSF charges, 45 bucks each. I called Uber to ask what the frick they were doing, they said "we're just making sure your account is active". I demanded the $92 back, they gave me the 2, said to take up the 90 with TD Bank.
I called TD Bank, they told me to stop spending money if I know I don't have money, even though I had just told them I wasn't the one doing the "spending".
I cancelled my Uber account, closed my TD Bank account (didn't pay the 90), and never did business with either one ever again and here we are 10 years later, neither one making a dime from me.
I had something similar some years back with a rented washing machine (we were poor impoverished students). Somehow I was the one that paid for the washing machine and everyone else paid me. The company (Radio Rentals) decided to change the date of the payment and sent me a letter saying they were going to take an extra payment by Direct Debit - even though I paid by Standing Order only and have never signed a Direct Debit agreement. Called and asked them about it and they said it was an error and to ignore it. The ****s managed to take the money anyway, resulting in bank charges. Had a barney with the bank for allowing a Direct Debit without authorization. ****s.
Maybe it's best to erase an uber account and remake it each time, or at least delete all card numbers from the app. It may be a bit inconvenient to have to reenter the information again, but it's better than having it all out in the open for them to just take money whenever they feel like it.
I have had nothing but positive experience with Lyft except maybe for leadfoot Drusila who drove fast and overshot my destination. I always tip $5 and gibe the drive a 5 star rating. I checked my rating as a passenger and it's 5 star. I'm low income and only use Lyft to get to medical appointments, but I just love it. Forget the bus, and forget about a car sitting idle 99% of the time
Two small deposits to test an account has been around for decades. It would have been smart for the bank to wave the NSF, though.
My favorite story would be from my best friend's dad. Every Thursday he would order a pizza from Domino's but ask that one quarter of it be cheese only for his children. Since they knew him, he paid the full topping price, and he did this so regularly they didn't have a problem with it. That was until one time when he was giving his regular order and the owner interrupted the employee taking the order, insisting that they would not fulfill a special request like that. He explained that he'd be doing it this way for over a year and its never been a problem, but the owner said absolutely not. He was patient with the owner, but with this betrayal of trust and how rude the owner was he would never do business with them again.
Cut to a few years later, the school he works at is taking bids from local restaurants to provide a treat lunch for their students. The contract would be regularly ordering enough for, I think 2500 students once a month. They got bids from a lot of restaurants and Domino's was the cheapest. So he called the owner, had him come up to the school for a meeting to iron out the contract details and explained, "several years ago you refused to let me get a pizza that was 1/4th cheese and I said I would never do business with you again. Therefore, this school's contract is going to [Pizza Hut] instead.
Dominos once sent us a pizza with a mosquito about half the size of a pinky finger baked into it
So he spent more of the school budget than he had to, because of a personal vendetta? 😬
Yeah, how dare he get edible pizza for the schools.

Spotify.
They frick over musicians so badly.
And call me old fashioned, but I want to own the music I listen to. If I pay for something, I want to be able to hold it, do whatever with it - not keep paying to borrow it.
I've heard somewhere that if you buy a band's album on Bandcamp or a piece of their merch, they get an equivalent of several years of streaming on Spotify. That's why I don't feel bad about not having Spotify and having my music as MP3s / FLACs on my phone.
Heaps of record stores are still around selling vinyl and CDs, they're astonishingly easy to find.

I refuse to use a plumbing company in the area because in 2001 they gave a free quote, came out to the job to preform the work, said it was going to be triple the price which I refused, then charged me a service fee.
I refused to pay the service fee because, by logic, a quote isn’t complete until accurate, and they turned me into collections.
Collections called. I told them I’d be happy to pay as soon as they produce the non existent contract with my signature attached. Never heard from them again.

Dogfish Head Ale House refused to seat my disabled mother.
She had ALS and was in a wheelchair at that point. She just wanted to go out for dinner with the family to feel normal again.
We got there and put our names on the seating list. After 25 minutes they offered us a high top bar table, which was above her head in the chair. We said it wouldn't work, pointed out the wheelchair.
After another 30 minutes they offered us a table upstairs. We asked if there was an elevator. They said no, only stairs. We said it wouldn't work, pointed out the wheelchair.
They had a little discussion amongst themselves. After 20 more minutes elapsed they came came an offered us a high top bar table again. We said it wouldn't work, pointed out the wheelchair YET AGAIN. They discussed amongst themselves again and then told us they had a big party and couldn't be expected to move chairs in the main dining room to accommodate a wheelchair and that they couldn't help us.
We just went home after they wasted an hour of our time. My mom was so embarrassed she never tried to go out to eat again. I know it was probably just a bunch of kids working. But still.
Mom being in a wheelchair was an inconvenience to us too, you think we wanted her to be dying of ALS? It's been over a decade and I'm still mad about it.
If the restaurant had a big party, it could have been that they really didn't have room for any walk-in customers, except the high table they offered. The restaurants can't quarantee place for those who didn't have a table reserved. However, the restaurant should have been telling them from the start that the waiting time for a downstairs table is going to be really long and it might be possible that they aren't able to be seated. It would have saved everyone from hassle and some dissappointment.
I was out for dinner and a woman in a wheelchair arrived at the same time. The tiny entrance area was packed and she could barely get in. She had a booking and staff had advised her on the phone it was accessible (which it wasn't, it had two steps up to the door, so her friends had to lift her chair to get her in, which to someone in a chair is really embarrassing). The table they originally booked wasn't accessible either, so they had to wait another 20 minutes for one that was. It's not good enough!
My heart is breaking hearing about this. There's laws against this in America. Film them refusing to accommodate a disabled person, then sue.
Most of us who are disabled in the US are extremely poor due to the government not being willing to help it's citizens live humanely. Lawyers cost money. I can't tell you how many times I've been hit and sideswiped by able bodied idiots. I've been lucky, extremely,to only have slight damage to my body and chair. The pain and fear were real though

This sort of happened with my daughter. She prefers a booth, or a cushier seat that doesn't strain her hernia in her lower back. She walks with a cane and cannot hop on a high chair at a high top bar table. Pony Corral, a waitress told her to get out of an empty booth table, kept repeating that to her as she struggled to get out of the booth, with a very harsh tone. Then proceeded to tell us to sit at at high top bar table with narrow high chairs. I'm taller than my daughter and even I have to do a bit of a hop up, and there's been times I've nearly fallen with the chair. I told them she can't sit there. So, the waitress said we could sit at a different booth (something about group sizes, but the booth we were allowed to sit at was bigger than the one my daughter originally went for.) but that booth was right next to the very loud speakers, and it was karaoke night. She couldn't handle it. We left. It really shouldn't be that difficult to accommodate those with disabilities. Even then, do staff just ignore signs of a disability, or are they just that ignorant about it, or is it some obnoxious way to make someone feel unworthy of service but they can't say it outright, so they just cruelly imply the message?
It's that last part. My mom and I live together, she's my part time caregiver but she's also in an electric chair. The looks from people who treat us as side show freaks are frequent.
Load More Replies...Sounds like they made a poor job of it, but wouldn't it have been a good idea to just, you know, book a table in advance? Hardly their fault if all wheelchair-accessible seating was already taken or reserved.
Reservations can be cancelled by the business at their own discretion, and they will do so if another party is expected to spend a lot more than the first party.

DoorDash. Customer service not refunding the tip to a dasher who stole my dinner doesn’t sit right with me.
Doordash also doesn't let you take the tip back electronically. Too many times when I was sick the effing driver left my order outside my gate in the rain, or on the ground outside my door (which opens outwards). I have a table marked very clearly that it's for deliveries, and instructions to use it. They don't deserve a tip for making an ill person walk outside, and around the house to get the order.
Wait. You tipped them before you got, or in this case didn't get, your meal? Tipping is supposed to be a reward for good service.
I assume these posts are from the US where people have been tricked into paying the wages of service personel instead of the employers
Load More Replies...I've boycotted doordash, skip, and any delivery service since they started...
I will never use a secondary food delivery service. Ever. If the restaurant does not provide an in-house delivery service, then I will order takeaway. But I will never use GrubHub, UberEats, or Door Dash. At least not knowingly. Found out that Lowe's uses companies that employ dashers, when I had 20 bags of lava rock delivered. With specific instructions of where it was to be unloaded. I am unable to lift repetitively, after sustaining career ending on-the-job injuries. So I get a woman in a designer mini dress, designer thong sandals, and lots of gold jewelry, driving a Ford Taurus, with my 20 bag lava rock delivery in my trunk. She is from 🇨🇺 (Huge Cuban flag stickers on her car) and is unable to; understand the instructions, lift the bags out of the trunk safely, or even communicate with me. Evidently Lowe's loaded the bags into the trunk for, and the count was short too. It was a fun morning. I was in pain rate of 8, for a week.
DoorDash (assuming it works the same in the US as it does in Aus) asks you to tip prior to finalising your delivery. Given what I've read about some Dashers refusing orders based on their failure to tip/tip 'adequately' in the US, I can see why people would tip prior. Fortunately here tipping is still seen as a privilege, not an expectation. (Hoping that remains the case.)

There’s this pizza place near me that didn’t give me the garlic knots I ordered, and told me I was lying that I didn’t receive them. Haven’t gone to them for 3 years now because of that lol.

Wal-Mart. Haven’t shopped at one in 20 years after reading “Nickel and Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich in 2004.
I do a lot less impulse spending, and less over-spending not shopping at Walmart. I used to believe I was spending less while I was grabbing stuff. Once I get to the till, they don't show the tally amount as the cashiers are scanning. You have to ask them. Then I see that the total is way over what I expect. I have to either deal with the damage or wait for them to call over their one manager in the store. I walked out of the cosmetics department for that very reason, all the while the cashiers calling me, demanding I stay and wait. I left everything on the counter. She thought I had stuff I needed to pay for. But, I'm still in the d**n store and I had left everything on the cosmetics counter. I'm not going to be held hostage. I may have to go to separate stores for everything I need to buy, but that means I'm able to stay aware with an eye on the prize.
It’s only been 2 years since we started boycotting Amazon after they ran over my dog, but it takes a surprising amount of effort to do.

Amazon makes ripoffs of their most sold items, then promotes their own over the original. This includes handcraft specialty sellers.
I've been boycotting Amazon for several years now. It's actually not that difficult. You have to compromise in terms of convenience, and I've probably shelled out a bit more than I would have buying through Amazon, but it's worth it (to me). My current pet peeve is ordering something from eBay and it turns up in Amazon packaging! Unfortunately I am compelled to use IMDb and IMDb Pro for work, but otherwise I try and actively avoid Amazon-owned companies and products as much as possible. Terrible treatment of their workers, dangerously monopolistic, and obviously Bezos is an awful person.
I've found the only time I use Amazon is if I cannot find something I need in my price range, or when a family member sends me an Amazon gift card. I don't like how they park on my street, obstructing traffic. I abhor how they treat their employees.
Enterprise.
Someone renting their car crashed into me.
They knew I had insurance but repeatedly harassed me personally to not only pay damages, but also pay for their lost revenue. (And again, they crashed into me, not the other way around.)
I told them if they called me again I'd sue.
I still use other car rental companies that are part of the same parent company because it's impossible not to but I'll die before I rent from Enterprise again.
I rented a car from Enterprise. The deal was $19 a day, plus mileage. I drove 16 miles a day (to and from work) and only had the car 3 days. My bill came to $231. I complained about this, and while they didn't actually say "Too bad", that was the gist of their response to me, and they showed some serious attitude while talking to me. I paid the bill, and will never return. I also badmouth them every time their name comes up, as it just did.
I haven’t bought Exxon gas since 1989 because of the Valdez spill and the fact that they lied about it.
I refuse, unless there is no alternative, to use Shell(apartheid). My brother in law will not use BP(due to their malfeasance).
Wells Fargo. They put our rent check through twice, causing everything else to bounce. They wouldn’t refund any of the $200 of NSF fees, even though they’d send us an email that they’d made an error. The email saved us with our other 1st of the month bills pays, but heck them forever. This was around 2002.
With their email admitting fault, I'd have been considering legal action.
I went to a department store that I shopped at a fair bit. As I was in the change room I heard two associates outside saying “you better check her when she comes out.” I immediately got dressed, handed them all the items, most of which I planned to buy, and told them I’d never shop there again. That was twelve years ago and they went out of business in June.
OP didn't attack them personally, they took it out on the store. If it was store policy or not, that's the payback.

Kohl's. They refused to price match their website, even though their signs at the register stated they would. Even the manager refused. Won't go in one. Won't even return my Amazon stuff there. I hope they go out of business.
I stopped going there because they cancel your Kohl's card and make you reapply (which takes time) because you don't use the card often enough. My Mom stopped shopping there for the same reason. We're not going to spend over half an hour in line applying for a new card, then wait weeks to get the new one! You should get one store credit card and keep it for as long as you want, just like any other credit card.

I once tried to donate furniture in very good condition that my children had outgrown. A truck came to collect it and the men complained that they didn't take "cheap pine stuff." A local church gladly accepted it for a needy parishioner.
TBF I know that some styles of furniture is difficult to sell with very little profit compared to the hard work of carrying it from the donor to the store. All thrift stores have to calculate it it is worth the hassle and the space to take in such furniture and possibly having it unsold for quite some time. 20 years since a contractor’s van overtook me in a dangerous spot while speeding. I’ve never used their services and never will.
If it's a big firm, it might have been worth reporting that van to HQ , who won't relish the bad effect that driver is causing. If it's a small firm, probably the boss driving, so, wouldn't necessarily work.
Totally agree, it's worth calling a company to report one of their vehicles being driven recklessly or dangerously. Sometimes they'll take it seriously, sometimes not, and their response lets me know if I want to do business with them.

Red Robin. Has to be 13 years now. Coupon for a free birthday burger with purchase of another meal. Let the server know before I even ordered that I had the coupon. When the bill came I was charged for both meals. I told the server and she said that the burger was a seasonal item that didn’t work with that coupon. Manager backed the server. Okee doke. That used to be a go to easy place with groups of six or more. Haven’t been back since.
The last time I went was a nightmare. It's a burger joint; their menu is about 20 pages long. It's the noisiest restaurant I've ever been in in my life. Every square inch of the walls is packed with "decor" of some type. It's a sensory nightmare.
I haven't been to red robin in several years because the last time I went there was a hair in my fries. But not just in the fries, it was a long dark hair WRAPPED AROUND a fry. It was disgusting and baffling. Like someone twisted a hair around a fry. I saw it as soon as the waiter set my plate down but I'm very shy, so I just, didn't really eat lol....
The time for the server to question the coupon was when you offered it. Pass the word that their papers aren't necessarily valid.

I've been 3 times. Two it was someone else's choice and money..The only time I went there voluntarily was it was the only place open in a new shopping center and I was having a low blood sugar episode.
Bank of America. Once worked at a company that had that BoA as a client. They were awful.
Bank of America was started as a small bank to help "the little people". It's not that I don't expect banks to change with the times, but I do expect them to remain ethical and not have such greedy bastards for CEOs like all banks do these days, especially BofA.
The other thing about BofA that I now have a grudge against them for, is that I worked for them for 14 years and was vested at 10 years. They refused over and over to see if I was due money for being vested once I retired. They just refused to look over their records. And just getting a hold of anyone was a trial. If you call them, you can't even be connected with a live person unless you can give them an account number. I had to go into a branch and when they wouldn't help me (no surprise), I had to get legal help. I'm telling you, those people are such big a******s, I'm not surprised all their brains fell out through their buttholes.

Subway fired me for putting too many olives on a sandwich l. Haven't been back in 15 years.
Subway is great if what you want is a loaf of bread lightly garnished with sandwich fillings.
I haven't been to Subway since they wouldn't close up shop in Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. Fûck Subway
They have terminated all rights in Russia to their brand and product as of June 2024, they no longer operate or have franchises there and they are not allowed to run any there.
Load More Replies...Used to be you could add extras to sandwiches at Subway. I asked to have extra meat put on mine and was informed if he did that he'd have to charge me for two sandwiches. Wasn't true but I wasn't gonna argue with him.
Well, if it was up to me, I'd promptly jail anyone for one william years for putting olives anywhere /j
The veggie isn't terrible, but it's way overpriced and there's a good chance the bread will be stale. Hooray.

Soup Peddler in Austin. I’ve been boycotting them for 23 years because they told their customers the website I built, like used my name, was causing order delays. Only problem was they moved to a different website made by a different company 2 months prior. They couldn’t even be bothered to apologize.
Sue them for defamation. This will effected your business and personal stranding
I realise that , in this case, OP is out of time, but in general that seems like a good idea.

Local Mexican restaurant. Went to use a gift card i was given for Christmas, the following August. Was told they switched gift card systems and had no way to tell how much gift card was worth. Told me to call a 1-800 number. Left the food since it was a pick up order and have never been back. Been 9 years. Always refuse invites to go out there.
I had a gift card to a local place that I didn't use for about 5 years. When I finally went to use it they had a new gift card system. The server had to get the manager who had to call his manager for instructions to log into the old system. I felt kind of bad, but they were great about it.
If their financial side is that incompetent, how bad might their cooking be !
This might be a stretch, but it probably isn't the same people doing both

BP. I will drive to E to avoid them because I’m still mad about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Same for me. I cannot forgive them for their attitude to the spill. They're the Nestle of oil companies.
that would be you, read all other comments and dont get why you posted what u did.

They have made the boycott very easy by getting rid of all the policies that made them appealing in the first place.
McDonalds. I just don't like their food.
Autozone. Had issues with their parts, then sales, and then customer service. Bunch of know-nothing jerks cosplaying as mechanics. Very corporate shill energy. And again, bad parts that are not worth it.
Right. They quit doing all the little "extras" they used to do. Probably just as well.

Since they're no longer in business that's pretty much a given, isn't it?.
My dad has been boycotting Ford for 50 years because of the Pinto. He won't even rent one.
I don't think tying will suffice as payment for any car.

They actually did fix that after the story broke, and it was never a problem with the wagons, but American compacts were generally just bad cars back then

Jimmy John’s. I ordered a #16 Club Lulu with chips and a coke. No chips or coke came and the sandwich was literally mayo and lettuce - Nothing else. I was so mad I called them to get a refund and they refused. I have never gone back after they did this to me and never will!!!
That bad? There's a reason it's called "Subway" ...

I've been to Jimmy John's. I think lettuce is the main ingredient in all their sandwiches.
It's a pretty big sandwich chain in the US, competing with Subway and Potbelly and Quiznos

I don’t get what made the husband break down in tears. Was he overcome with emotion because of a cow sitting at the kitchen table?
I think because NO NUTS were allowed. He had to go sit in the car.

Back in 2020 I saw an AMA with their VP of HR answering why they seemed “understaffed in an area” and they blamed it on all their competitors paying above market value wages, and them wanting only people passionate about their brand. That was followed by them posting a huge party on social media during lockdowns, and the “cookie wars” where they tried to sue their competitors for also using “square boxes” among other things.

Canada here, Tim Hortons.
Have had tim.hortons 2x not sure if same location. But their donuts are the most flavorless pos I've ever had
Tons of reasons. It's been long bought out by an American company, which has brought in so many unwanted, unnecessary changes to the franchises that the whole establishment is ruined. It was never high end stuff, but it was at least once considered a Canadian comfort to go to a Tim Hortons, have a seat and enjoy a decent enough cup of coffee and an actual freshly, made-in-store donut. Now, many of the franchise locations have ridden old staff and have been abusing the Temporary Foreign Worker program. The washrooms are not cleaned as often, nor as thoroughly, as they used to. Despite cleanliness and pest issues, the food quality has gone down. The coffee is a cheaper kind. (Mcdonalds now uses the coffee beans Tim Hortons used to use.) The creamer dispensers are dispensing less than they're supposed to. (My 3 cream 2 sugar now tastes like a double double. I can see and taste the difference. Other people have noticed the same with their coffee order.) The bread for the sandwiches are ..

I don't use and never will use audiobook services because they exploit authors and offer lousy commissions, plus the number of books read by AI is starting to increase alarmingly, and that's a saving when a company doesn't have to pay a human to read a book aloud. If my eyesight ever fails, the library has its own audiobook selection for the blind.
Apple. The way they treated Steve Wozniak was bad enough but their active refusal to support their existing Apple ][ base in order to push the Macintosh really pıssed me off. While I was in their repair shop here for a translation/editing project many decades ago I overheard some techs grousing about having to repair the older machines and mocking their owners for using "dinosaurs". That annoyed me so much that when the time came to move on, I went the MSDOS route instead.
Subway charged my young son for each individual item rather than for a combo so it costs him more money. I marched in and demanded the difference and haven't at a Subway since. A pox on people who cheat children.
I had a very bad experience with Dreams beds in the UK many years ago. Ordered a sofa bed, it was constantly delayed and the shop was no help. Asked for a refund and to cancel the order. Get a call from their Head Office saying they will give me 10% off, some other bits, just give them to the end of the week. The end of the week came and nothing. Called the guy back and asked for my refund. Fast forward a bit and I am abroad on a work trip for a few weeks. I get a call saying my sofa bed is ready for delivery. I explained that I cancelled the order some time ago and HO knew. She said she would look into it. I receive another 6 phone calls saying my sofa bed is ready. At this point I just lost it with the last caller. As I was abroad I mentioned it to my parents in a phone call about how dumb this is. Couple of days later my dad calls me saying he went to the shop in person. Turns out the shop never cancelled the order. It got sorted there and then.
Adobe. Found cheaper/free replacements for all their products I used. I think they are patient zero for software extortion.
Only one, have refused to purchase ExxonMobil products since the Valdez spill.
Staples. They have a mean, rude photocopy station lady! And no I'm not going to prepay, on only a credit card, for photos I haven't gotten developed yet.
