Made This Rocking Chair In ‘97 Wood Shop Class When I Was 14. Had No Idea Why I’ve Kept It For 24 Years. 38 Now And I Have Finally Realized It Belongs To My Son. Might Be A Dumb Post, Sorry, But His Face Makes All Those Years Worth It
And one day, your Son will repair it a little, probably repaint it, and tell his Wife that 'The Kid'll love it!"
I'm amazed you made a tiny rocker when you were 14! This was meant to be! Great job😎
Your son is adorable, and your chair is being put to very good use.
Congratulations on your beautiful boy and your fantastic craftsmanship
Dare I Say.. The "Neverending Fence" Is Complete!
It'll only last a few years before starting to rot. The benefit of doing it this way is that individual rods can be replaced as they rot, rather than having to redo the entire thing. But that requires constant maintenance. But OP said they knew what they were getting into by doing this.

Ron Perlman seems like the type of person who remains humble and grounded no matter how much of a celebrity he is. I admire that.
"I'm strong to the finish, 'cause I eats me spinach..."
Load More Replies...I have loved Ron Perlman ever since I see him in a little known movie called, The Name of the Rose. He just had a small part as the main cast was Sean Connery and Christian Slater. Perlman played the part of the hunchback and he nailed it with his acting chops !
Some of the earliest materials that humans used were stone, clay, animal parts, and wood. And as civilization advanced, so did people’s capacity to handle these materials with more and more proficiency.
From the primitive tools used by prehistoric tribes to the very advanced machinery we use today, woodworking has progressively developed over the ages. However, it transcends mere craftsmanship; it represents both a profession and a deeply fulfilling hobby.
Maiden Voyage Of My First Cedar Strip Canoe! No Kit, No Plans, No Staples
I know it was probably only 2% of the project but I just love the wicker seats
You appreciate the eye for detail - more than half the time - that's the stuff the creator wants you to notice!!!!!!!!!! I am the same way!!!! They are super cute!!!

Heard There Was A Plywood Challenge So Here Is My Plywood Rocker For Consideration
Amazing. You really made something that most people think is mediocre into something beautiful.
First Violin Is Finished!
For people who choose to make it their livelihood, it is a timeless craft that demands precision, creativity, and dedication. Whether they are making custom furniture pieces or building architectural wonders, professional woodworkers shape and transform wood into functional pieces of art.
For instance, there’s a stunning façade made entirely of timber in the Tamedia Office Building in Zurich, Switzerland. Designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, this innovative structure pushes the boundaries of conventional construction. It’s a striking example of how thoughtful design and material choice can create buildings that are both visually stunning and environmentally responsible.
This Is A Cat Themed Wooden Chess Set That I Designed And Sculpted Myself
Imagine a cat playing chess- Queen's p**n to under the refrigerator! King's knight to under the couch!
I'll have you know that the knights are the only pieces other than the overlord allowed behind Purple Chair, so don't go getting ideas.
Load More Replies...This is beautiful you must have a lot of cool things you have carved
Why are the pieces not all under the 'fridge ? You DO have cats, right ?

'splitting From The Norm'. A 16-Year Old From A Local School Has Made An Insanely Awesome Piece
If you feel inspired looking at these photos, note that woodworking is not solely reserved for the seasoned artisan. Anyone seeking a creative outlet can try their hands at this craft.
Whether you want to make a handmade gift for your loved ones, or simply want to attend a workshop, woodworking might be quite meditative. Especially if you are someone who loves the smell of sawdust.
9' Hollow Wooden Longboard
Carved A Rope And Knot From Basswood
Basswood is very soft. I'd imagine that makes it probably 8 times more difficult to not break it or mess up the carve.
Owner Wanted To Cut Down The Tree For The Deck, But I Talked Him Into Building A Bench Around It Instead. I Think It Turned Out Nice And Saved The Tree
I've noticed how prone people are to cutting down trees and promptly putting up parasols and awnings
Load More Replies...Sometime I think my family sees me as the lorax because I'm adamant about not cutting them down. Thank you fellow lorax for saving one.
My dad did this on my parents' deck. So far, it's outliving my dad. It looks so neat, too! Beautiful work, Sir!
Had an uncle do this at his place. The important thing he learned is to direct a downspout over to the tree under the deck. The tightly fit wood was preventing the soil from getting enough moisture and almost killed the tree. But it's thriving now that he did a little rerouting
That's a really good point. We have a western red cedar that we built a hot tub pad near. When we empty the hot tub (four or five times a year) the tree gets a really good watering (and yeah, it pretty well does soak most of it up as far as I can tell). We live just a little inland from one of the few temperate rain forests though, so the tree isn't even slightly short on water otherwise, but I still like to think we make up for covering a tiny bit of its rooted area... and also use the waterings to discourage the tree from trying to crack through the pad for water.
Load More Replies...For many individuals, the different types of wood are key to creating beautiful and useful pieces from raw materials. After all, you can’t just ax any tree and use it for woodworking. If you choose to work with hardwood, it usually comes from broad-leaved trees. The wood from these trees is dense, strong, and durable. These factors make it the ideal material for building furniture.
I Made A Spice Rack
My 14 Year Old Daughter Made This In Shop Class And I Couldn’t Be More Proud!
I think it's amazing that they have shop classes for 14 year olds.
One thing shop class in school taught me - it's really not easy at all to get a smooth, level, flat surface (without fancy machines).
Beautiful Project I've Been Working On For A Few Months. Thought Everyone Here Would Like To See!
Best use of that space other than a room for little sorcerer's. Mine (tiny house) has raised several goats and ferrets and pigs and stores ammo
Once those drawers are loaded up with stuff I think they will find the small k**b will need to be replaced with a bigger handle to be able to pull the weighted drawers open. I built large drawers for my CDs and DVDs and the weight split the wood where the slider mechanism was mounted.
The bottom would probably be a more mechanically sound location for those knobs. Brilliant use of space.
Possibly the most common hardwood used in construction is oak: It is frequently utilized for cabinets, flooring, roofs, and buildings. Red and white oak are the two primary varieties; white oak is more frequently used to make furniture as it has good moisture resistance. When oak is properly cut, it doesn’t bend or twist out of shape.
Now cherries are a robust and multipurpose timber. It’s a reddish-brown wood that is perfect for furniture and interior construction. And because of its environmentally friendly harvesting practices, cherries are typically among the most expensive hardwoods. But it provides woodworkers with ample material for crafting projects. The consistent grain patterns, uniform coloration, and improved density of cherries contribute to the overall aesthetic of the finished products.
My Complicated Looking Greenhouse Without Cutting Any Compound Angles
If like me, you haven’t a scooby do what a compound angle in woodwork is, google says a compound angle occurs at the intersection of two sloped sides. I do not consider myself any wiser from that definition.
It must have been so exhausting to make, that plants must wait until next season. But really handsome.

Curved Shelf Experiments
I feel like I went down the rabbit hole chasing the white rabbit in the waist coat.
I am very glad that none of my cats are looking just now, or they would demand such a shelf to lie on.
Maple is a light-colored hardwood. With tools like a hand lathe that you might have on your workbench, carving and manipulating maple is a breeze. Because of its toughness, maple is a common material for furniture like dressers and cabinets. As it stains easily, woodworkers can make it look like cherry or mahogany.
Musical instruments like violins and guitars are also commonly made of maple. Drawer knobs and spoons made of maple are also quite popular.
I Made A Squirrel Bar
OMIGOSH! The little corrugated tin roof and the little lights.. too much cute
No better place to meet up on Payday. And located on 5th Avenue, too. Life can be a Rocky Road, but when you can hang out with friends and tell bad jokes while the bartender Snickers, $100,000 can't top the Mounds of joy you receive.
I tried SOOO hard yesterday to not run over a squirrel, but it ran back under my car and I couldn't see it. I was really unhappy, and since it's just down the road from my only way out, I keep having to see it! Sorry, Squirrel People! I didn't mean to kill your bro!
Desk Dog Lamp
Vlad The Builder: Project #(We Lost Count)
In general, hardwoods tend to be more expensive than softwoods. Softwood is usually obtained from cone-bearing trees such as pine and fir. They are often used in framing, interior paneling, furniture making, millwork, and outdoor construction.
Their affordability, availability, and ease of workability make them a top choice for professional and hobbyists alike.

Wow that looks so difficult 😳. It's beautiful you are very talented and smart
All these posts are just affirming my solid belief that woodshop should be a requirement in middle/high school. Working with our hands is so important and creative.
I think that was one of the biggest mistakes was taking wood and metal shop out of most schools.
Load More Replies...I'd guess opening the cabinet sober is much easier than closing it after savoring its contents.
I have so many questions. I want to see that, study it, see how it works.
Like something where Jules Verne would keep his cognac. That is amazing!
Pine is a reasonably priced softwood that's frequently used in door frames and inside window sills. It's a fantastic material for construction because of its straight grain. Pine ranges in hue from light to golden. To prevent warping in the final goods, woodworking projects must use seasoned pine.
To prepare pine for woodworking, it must be dried so that its moisture level is lower. Air drying can take many months to a year and is dependent on the natural breeze outside. But when it comes to kiln drying, it is a more regulated process that takes roughly days to weeks and uses specialized chambers to control humidity and temperature.

Better to be known as a Builder than an Impaler. You Rock, Vlad!
Load More Replies...Commonly utilized in projects requiring doors, beams, fencing, posts, and closets, cedar is a popular softwood. Its ability to withstand deterioration is one of its outstanding qualities. The aroma of cedar is well-known for its ability to keep insects away. Because cedar is lightweight, craftspeople find it both easy to work with and sturdy.

We Just Finished Up Rapunzels Tower And Cottage Playhouse. Next Up A Bit Of Landscaping
Lucky kid! Lots of our city's professional athletes live in my town, and one of the baseball players spent 40K on a playhouse for his daughters. It's nicer than any place I've ever lived!
I would have LOVED to have had something like that to play on as a kid! AMAZING!
Hey, this might be the answer to the housing shortage. Just scale it up a bit for adults. 😉
Made This To Replace The Stupid Lazy Susan Cabinet. 👍 Or 👎?
You'll have slightly less space but it's so worth it cause you'll actually be able to use it!
And nothing falls off in the back, never to be seen again.
Load More Replies...So much better those lazy Suzy spots were such a waste of space
And even they are better than the cupboard in my parents' apartment. It just stretches wayyyyyy long into the room corner, and is pretty much useless, since half the stuff needs to be taken out before you can access the rest. Stupid cheap design.
Load More Replies...We have a Lazy Susan in a space like that. I hate it. Pretty sure there are spices from the 80's hidden back in there. God only knows what else. It's a total pain to use!
I once found teething medication. hidden in the far reaches of the cabinets. It was morphine dating back to 1964. I never knew that my sister was so bothered when she was an infant.
Load More Replies...In high school foods class i remember this dude forgot what a lazy Susan was called and said "spinning Betsy" instead and I still use it to this day
Very practical. I shake my head at that impossible space going to waste.
I have a useless lazy Susan cupboard in the same spot. Sadly I couldn’t do this if I tried
Bout do I need this done in my kitchen. I got a Lazy Susan, but the shelving for it isn't even attached to the door like I thought it would be. It's really just useless to me! I do store my pots and pans there, though. But I wanted it for canned goods. Nope! Just taking up room in my pantry now. Ugh.
I Carved A Tiny Maple Owl
If OP has made other animals, I would very much like to see them too.
It’s Done!!! Now Should It Hang Like A Diamond Or Square? 2 Tone Stains On Birch
Normally I'd agree, but then the majority of the inner décor would hang square - I think a "square" frame for a "diamond interior" might look better.
Load More Replies...I'll be a rebel. Place it on a turning mounting, to be realigned at a whim.
Square, the diamond will still be right there in middle of the piece!
Custom Made Bed For My Son. He Is Beyond Excited
Not as badly as with a bunk bed... or a loft bed. I. Hate. Them.

Longship Cradle I Made For My First Grandchild Is Complete
So so beautiful now I'm jealous getting ready for my 8th grandchild
Is it bad that my first thought was "Newborns don't sleep - so yelling "Release the Kraken" while picking up said screaming infant would be appropriate.
Awh, if only they would stay small like that for longer... Congratulations!
As is the grandchild, who appears to be perfectly happy. And it rocks! In more ways than one.

What Is This And Where Do I Find The Plans?

For anyone wondering, OP wanted the drawer under the microwave in the island and some integrated spice racks in the window area (not visible yet). HD just does standard cabinet setup so won't do anything that doesn't fit that box style. So OP's father built it all himself.
And now, it needs a circular banquette seat and dining table in the elbow of the "L" of the island
That's because nobody would block off a door. A pretty dumb idea is still a dumb idea
