Visitors always exclaim that they would "sit and read there for hours". Even as an avid reader I have to admit; you probably won't. the reality is that a real couch or chair is way more comfortable than these can ever be. There's a cold window pane in your back, and even with thick cushions, ergonomics is going to be not superb By all means, lust after them on pinterest, build them if you have the space, but don't get too hung up on a very idealized interior idea. The cats, however, love them;)
They're only cold in the winter. There are lots of places where it's warm all year long. And the other places it's nice to have a spot in the evening to read or just watch the light change. My mother has a window seat, and I sit there for hours doing my sewing whenever I visit.
