"So I’m driving down the road this morning and the cars in front of me are driving over a black thing in the road. It’s going between their tires so I’m guessing it’s a box. It’s a kitten just sitting upright shaking like a leaf. And some idio* had spread glue on its paws and stuck it to the road. I thought maybe it walked through glue somewhere but after looking at it, that was totally spread into her paws. She was wet and freezing and literally glued to the road. And NO ONE STOPPED. What the f$&k people??? I slammed on my brakes and stopped all the traffic and put my hazards on and got out and pealed her off the road. People were honking and all pissy....really??? It’s a kitten glued to the road!! So after a goo gone bath and some food and cream we have a new kitten. Luckiest kitten in the world!"
Thankfully that one person in a hundred who actually has some empathy came along. F**k people disgust me.
I haven't finished, the s**t stain who did this to the kitten needs to be superglued to the motorway, cue the 'but psychopaths have roights' brigade.
Load More Replies...Look at how that kitten is looking at her new human. She knows what he did. As she's still so young, the conscious memory will hopefully fade, but when she's 23 and hobbling about on her walker, she's still going to remember that he's the best human in the world.
You should be forgiven for several sins because you rescued that kitten, probably putting life and limb on the line.

Any person who is annoyed at rescuing an animal in need is not worth being around
We heard a dog screaming in the night, both of us leapt up and ran outside. Turned out the dog in question was, er, having intimate relations with another dog. Anyway, next morning, I said, "You realise that if you had said oh come back to bed it's only a dog, it would have been the end for us?" He said "Yes. Same."

I know! Isn't she gorgeous now? (really hope that dog's a female or this joke doesn't work...)

All I can say is God Bless this woman. Jake has been with us for a long time, is a senior, and has cancer in addition to skin problems. He was getting passed up time and time again.
But Melani came to the shelter not just to find a great dog, but to save a life and give unconditional love to a dog in need. As you can see, it's a match made in heaven. Please help us thank Melani. People like her are our heroes."
There's a guy in my neighbourhood who adopts senior dogs only. His dog and my dog are friends even though his dog can't keep up with mine bit will always come say hello
Same. I'm only three in on this list and I'm already bawling.

He was the abandoned in The townhouses I live in Kind of everyone's outside cat here for 10 years. Everyone used to feed him but I realized he started looking worse so I took him in and got him to a vet. Glad I did before winter because he has fiv. We have feral cats too one one day last summer he came home with some scratches and stuff looking like he got In a fight And I'm pretty sure that's when he contracted it So it was only the summer before Glad I got a minute when I did though Now we get shots every month just to keep it under control He's an inside cat completely now he's not too happy about it but he got used to it Safer than him being outside I'm just trying to keep them as comfortable as possible until that day Cuz I know we only maybe has a year or two left tops Yes too many bad teeth and I can't spend Of dollars on a cat And that is sick and old. Don't get me wrong I keep them comfortable he gets pain shots and antibiotic shots every Month. Just want him to be comfortable Until he goes.....😮💨😢😢
Another hero. That is the happiest pup on earth. What big smiles on both of them.
I would like to think that many people including myself could make that decision quickly and without regret.. but it's obviously easier said than done to take on an animal you would have for a short time and who is already sick. God bless her and the people like her who will take in and love the ones that most families can't.
“The inspector handed her over to me and she put her little head on my shoulder and put her front paw on my chest. I named her Cindy. They say animals can't speak but that day she told me she was so grateful that we saved her, and that she was going to fight her way back to a healthy life,” says Clare Travers during our interview. She’s seen a lot in her 14 years working at an animal shelter, but this is one of the memories seared in her heart and mind.
“It was two months ago,” she goes on to tell Bored Panda. “A member of the public called us about a puppy that was living on a rubbish dump. Our inspector went out and collected her, and brought her back to the kennels. She was around 3 months old and had been on the dump from about 6 weeks of age, withstanding the elements and struggling to survive. She was in horrific condition and severely neglected and emaciated. One of her legs was only half a leg and terribly infected. She was so sad and depressed on arrival.”
In 2012, a stray cat randomly entered a home in Wales where a blind dog was living and, after sensing the dog's disability, became its personal guide. The cat learnt to direct and nudge the dog away from obstacles, and would protect it while out on walks.
every disabled needs a strong and fierce guide..I'm in love with this kitty

Brazilian priest Juan Pablo takes abandoned dogs off the streets, and feeds and bathes them. Then he introduces a dog to each Mass and to find each one a home. Dozens of stray dogs have families because of this man. We hope this idea catches on. God bless you father
All God’s creatures great and small etc etc even as an atheist I endorse this man’s message on animals.
Back when I was living in Cleveland, the (now deceased) weatherman for Channel 8 was a big animal rights activist. The 6pm news, once a week, had a "shelter pet of the week" segment that did a great deal for getting animals adopted. I hope they've continued the tradition in his absence.
Travers dedicates her days to saving abandoned, abused, neglected and surrendered dogs. She still thinks of all the dogs she helped, including Cindy. “Our medical staff took a look at her and suggested euthanasia, because of the bad shape that she was in. But Cindy and I had made a pact - I would do everything I could to restore her health and find her a loving home, and she would be very brave and fight for her health.”
Thankfully, Cindy’s story had a happy ending. “With the help of the public we raised enough money to cover all her medical costs as well as her leg amputation,” Travers told us. “A foster home came forward, her adoption fee was sponsored, and as soon as she was ready for adoption the most wonderful family came forward to adopt her and give her a loving home. It wasn't easy for Cindy and she went through a lot but we both kept our promises to each other. Today she is living her best life and in the most beautiful family home.”

People forget it's not just humans that suffer when devastation hits, whether it's war or a natural disaster
I live in Southern California, where we have, literally, "wildfire season". When I was a kid, many pets would die in the fires. Now, there are a TON of rescue groups who IMMEDIATELY mobilize to evacuate dogs, cats, horses, and any other animals that live on farms/houses in the areas that are threatened by the fires once a fire is reported. It is so wonderful to see these volunteers realized that a lot of people keep horses in the areas that usually get decimated by fires - and a lot of time the owners would be so panicked to escape/evacuate their (human) family members that they couldn't always get the horses out in time. Things are very different nowadays :) (I live in a beach town, fairly far from where the fires usually hit, but I still have a plan/carriers in place for the disasters that COULD hit my area - devastating earthquakes and/or tsunamis/flooding)

My boyfriend is Chinese - born in the US to immigrant parents. He spent a two-month "study abroad" course in Guangzhou during law school with his school's Asian And Pacific Islander Student Association group. His parents are from Taiwan and cooked traditional meals all throughout my boyfriend's life, so he was no stranger to traditional (Mandarin) Chinese cooking. But apparently, in Guangzhou, the student group went to an outdoor marketplace where a street vendor sold them meat-kabobs and didn't tell them what meat it was. They all assumed beef. Turns out it was dog meat, and the vendor laughed at them once he told them afterwards. Boyfriend was horrified - he'd never had a dog himself, but I had a German Shepherd at the time and he loved her. He said the meat was super nasty, too - so I can't even imagine WHY it's a thing to eat dog when there are far tastier (and easier/faster to raise/breed) animal meats available.

Thats my personal opinion.
It’s true. It’s speciesism, and I don’t totally understand why we are ok with pigs who have the same intelligence and personality as dogs are ok but dogs aren’t. I’m horrified by all of it.

It’s stories like those that keep Clare going. Many times, her work is heartbreaking. “Every single day, there is sadness. There are dogs arriving that are so ill because the people have not done anything to help their sick animals and come to our shelter for help when it is too late,” she told us.
“Many animals suffer and don't get the help that they need. Many dogs are brought to our shelter for medical treatment. It's very hard to see their owners and how they are treated, because often you can tell that the dogs don't belong in a good home but there's nothing you can do about it. It's also incredibly sad when stray animals are picked up on the streets and they are in the most neglected and sad condition and you think about the tough life they have lived.”
OMG. My wife and I found these three on a hiking trip tied up to a pole with wire so short, they couldn't lay down and with no food or water, not that they could reach it even if there was. We knocked on the door, but there was no answer, so we took them. The white one collapsed on the way to the car, so I had to carry her the rest of the way. Animal cruelty should be a Class C Felony with a mandatory 10-year prison term.
Agreed. The babies look so peaceful and.relieved. i hope they are still with you.
Animal cruelty is the one crime where I believe eye for an eye is applicable.
Right! Lets tie them up with wire, so short they can't lie down BUT still put their favorite food and drink just out of reach, see how they like it.

I make exception to tie out cables when setting up camp while hiking with the dogs. It keeps them safe and out of the way for the short time it's needed and protects the wildlife from being harrassed.

I have never understood how people can just dump animals off somewhere like that. He is a really nice looking German Shepherd and somebody would have been happy to take him instead of being dumped like trash.
The look on his face just breaks my heart into pieces.... thank you from the bottom of my heart for not even hesitating to bring him in. What a wonderful person you are! I know you and your family will be just what he needs to live the fulfilling life that he deserves!
The person who did this to him should be strung up with fishhooks by the genitals, then drawn and quartered and left in the streets so the animals of the night might feast with gusto on the remains of this total miscreant!
It takes a special kind of person to be able to work in this kind of environment. Being an animal lover is not enough. Travers says for her, it’s a passion. Not a job. She’s been at Animal Welfare Helderberg in South Africa since 2010. “You never know what the day is going to hold,” she told Bored Panda.
“My average day would involve taking in strays, taking in surrenders, dealing with adoptions, doing home checks, making sure all the kennel animals are healthy, assisting the public that are coming to view the animals, taking dogs into theater for sterilization and other operations, getting all vaccinations and deworming up to date. Lots of admin work.” Travers is a Jill of all trades, doing a little bit of a lot every single day. All in the name of dogs.
“Getting any ill dogs checked out by the vet, networking, advertising and posting animals on our social media pages, dealing with a huge amount of phone calls, emails and WhatsApps from the public that need help with rehoming their dogs or helping their sick animals, and the list goes on,” she explained.
"My grandma passed away last week, and every day, without fail, she used to feed the foxes that visited her garden. Today, when we went over, the baby fox was sitting outside, waiting for her to come out. Seeing his little face broke my heart"
I hope - if one of the relatives inherited the property - that they do not sell it and continue feeding the future generations of foxes :) I know we're not really SUPPOSED to feed wild animals as it causes them to get acclimated to humans (and possibly become scavengers/bin-raiders) but IMO the tradition of feeding this particular fox family needs to continue XD

George, the valiant Jack Russell Terrier, heroically saved five children from a ferocious attack by two pit bulls in Manaia, New Zealand. Despite his small size compared to the attacking dogs, George bravely defended the children by barking and charging at the pit bulls to shield them. His courageous actions resulted in severe injuries, leading a veterinarian to put him down due to the severity of the mauling. George's heroism did not go unrecognized. The New Zealand Society for the Protection of Animals honored him with a bravery medal, and he was also awarded the PDSA Gold Medal by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals. This medal is considered the animal counterpart to the George Cross, underscoring George's exceptional bravery. Additionally, a monument was erected in his honor.
I know that it is an unpopular opinion with pitty owners but they need much more restrictions on the breed. Go to any shelter in Atlanta, it's 90% Pitt bulls that aren't safe. They are bred for killing. I'm sure yours is a sweet baby, but you can't deny the statistics and what alot of people are breeding them for. It's disgusting and the breed really needs to go. Not because of the dogs because of the a**holes that want them for bad reasons.
They’re not bred for killing. It’s the owners that go don’t train them, restrict feeding, maki g them hungry and angry. Pitties are some of the safest dogs around and are brilliant with children. It’s the owners who need jailing, not the dogs.
Load More Replies...My Mum's rescue bichon got between her and a neighbor's dangerously aggressive, very large dog. This dog had already knocked my elderly Mum down twice. The third time, she couldn't get the dog to back down, even with her walking stick. He charged her, but Duffy attacked this massive Rottweiler and in the ensuing fight, had his poor little back ripped open, but he got the dog away from my Mum. Mum had broken her coccyx but she wasn't bitten. You could see Duffy's spine and the vet had little hope, but he knew why Duff was injured, so he spent the next 24 hours keeping him alive, and Duff survived. It took years for Duffy to allow anyone, who was not family, anywhere near my mum. He lived with me after she died and within a year or so, he finally went back to the friendly, sweet dog he truly was. He's gone now and I miss him.
People who say, oh, pit bulls are sweet, gentle dogs, it's bad owners who are the problem, here's the two flaws in that logic. First, bad owners, especially those involved in crime or just stupid, are attracted to this breed. So as long as pit bulls continue to be bred, there will be a long lineup of bad owners waiting to adopt them. So you're just breeding many of these dogs to be abused by bad owners. And victims don't care that it was the owner's fault instead of the dog's. Second, unlike most breeds, once a pit bull gets hold of you, a child, or your pet, the damage will be severe. Sure, other breeds bite, but most you can pull off and many will stop after a series of bites. Our dear dog who was just enjoying a leashed walk in the sunshine when he was attacked from nowhere. It was horrific, he didn't survive, and I have still have nightmares. It's not just bad owners, it's people who keep advocating for the breeding of pit bulls that cause these tragic situations.
https://people.com/crime/2-children-killed-pit-bull-attack-tennessee-mother-hospitalized/ Here's a case where a pair of loved pit bulls, who had been with the family for EIGHT YEARS, attacked and killed their family's 2-year-old girl and a 5-month old baby. They also attacked the mother. It's not just "criminals" who have "aggressive" pit bulls - pits that are raised their ENTIRE LIVES with the same family can sometimes snap and attack and kill the members of their family.

After the loss of his parents, Roscoe, a 3-year-old orangutan, became so depressed that he refused to eat and didn't respond to medical treatments. The vets feared he might die of sadness.
Meanwhile, the zookeepers discovered an old, sick dog wandering the zoo grounds where Roscoe resided and brought him to the animal treatment center. Coincidentally, the dog arrived just as Roscoe was receiving care.
From the moment they met, the two forlorn creatures became inseparable companions. Roscoe found a newfound purpose in life, and both strive to be the best of friends to each other.
They spend all their time together, enjoying various activities in Northern California, where swimming is a particular favorite. Although Roscoe is somewhat afraid of the water, his canine friend helps him overcome his fears. Together, they have rediscovered the joy and laughter in life, cherishing the value of their friendship.

Her work is taxing but Travers says she wouldn’t change it for the world. “I love everything about my job but there are two things that are particularly wonderful. Firstly, it's when our kennel dogs are adopted and find loving homes. There's nothing more beautiful than watching an orphaned shelter dog go home with a loving family, and you know they are going to be so happy and spoiled,” she said, beaming from the inside out.
“The second thing that I find very rewarding is when abused dogs arrive at the kennels that are petrified of the human race and after a few days of working gently with them they transform into happy, loving and confident dogs. It's incredibly rewarding to see that transformation.” It's why Travers finds it hard to part with the dogs that do get adopted.
John Unger adopted his dog Schoep when he was a puppy. Today Schoep is 19 years old and has Arthritis. He's in pain and can't sleep. His owner John, trying to find a solution to his pain, discovered that the water from the lake helps relax Schoep, so every night he takes him for a swim in the lake so he can get some sleep. The photo was captured by Hannah Stonehouse Hudson, who wanted to portray the unlimited love this owner has for his dog.
I have seen this many times, and every time it pulls my heartstrings. The look of relief and calmness on the dogs face always gives me this feeling I can't really express. I guess I am just a sentimental fool.
While I can understand the owner, I fear it is rather selfish and cruel to let an animal live in constant pain apart from some moments when floating in the water. The dog is 19 and is suffering most of the time. There is a time when you just have to see what is best for your animal friend and not what is best for you.
Schoep died in July of 2018 about a year after this photo was taken. After the photo appeared, owner John received a number of gifts for his dog which were all aimed at giving Schoep more comfort and ease. He was 20 years old.
A copy of this shot is on the wall behind me. The money made from sale of this photo went for vet treaatments so neither had to soak in the lake.

Ouch poor dog and 19 years old. My last dog was 15.5 when I had to have her put to sleep, we got her when she was 9 weeks old. The 2 that I have now will be 5 this month and the cat will be 13 next month.
My husband and his colleague were traveling on a remote road in South Australia. About thirty kilometers from the nearest town, they encountered a dog walking along the roadside in the darkness.
The dog was old and visibly exhausted, but he gladly hopped into their work vehicle. The men decided to turn around and head back to Coober Pedy. Upon arriving, they found the local Police Station closed. Turning to Facebook, they came across a post about a missing dog and contacted the owner. It turned out that the 13-year-old dog had been missing for six days, and the owner had nearly lost hope.
The men reunited Max with his owner before heading back out on their journey.

Every afternoon, when his small business closes for the day, the kind-hearted owner leaves food and water for the stray dogs in his town. I don't know him personally, but he has my utmost respect.
Travers bonds with each and every dog that comes through the shelter doors. "I grow to love the dogs so much and they're so special to me. They're all so unique. I spend so much time with them and give so much of myself to them. I love them almost like they're my own," she told us.
Her aim is to find forever homes for all the dogs. But she says it's bittersweet each time an adoption happens. "It's so wonderful to see them go off to loving homes. It's really beautiful. But when they get adopted, it's so hard to see them go and to say goodbye. Knowing that you've invested so much of yourself into the dog and the dog just gets taken away, it's a very hard thing to deal with. It's really hard to let go," said Travers and we could hear the sadness in her voice.

In 2007, a US Marine in Iraq befriended a stray desert dog called Nubs. After someone stabbed the dog with a screwdriver the marine nursed him back to health, developing such a bond that when the unit left Nubs picked up the scentand walked 70 miles through Iraqi desert warzone to be with him..
The marine was able to take him home. Wrote a book about him. Sadly, Nubs passed away in 2018, at the age of approximately 12. From the owner's facebook page: "If you aren't tracking his story, I met Nubs in Iraq in September of 2007 while on deployment. He has been with me and our family through thick and thin, all over the world for over 10 years. He was a loyal friend, a patient and devoted companion, and pretty much a near-sibling to our two young sons. He lived a great, long, and amazing life and now rests in the sand dunes of Padre Island with a daily view of the Gulf of Mexico."

“I was driving up 75, and saw the trooper in the turnout... checked my speed, oh I'm good. A few minutes later, I see a dog in the ditch by one of the signs for exit 20. She looked bad. I was in the left lane, heading to an appointment, and was torn. I decided I would go back southbound and risk a ticket by going to the turnout. I turned in and the trooper was still there! Yay! He rolled down his window and said "Yep! I'm here" to which I told him about the dog and I didn't want a ticket, but if I could help that dog, it was fine by me. He just asked where the dog was and was on his way! I followed and we found her, still there, panting like she was fixing to die. That trooper dumped his jug out and fashioned a water bowl for her. Then poured a couple of bottles of water. The dog was scared of him, but frozen in weakness. She sniffed the water, then realized this kindness was for her! She drank that water down in minutes! The trooper went and got her some more, plus a Little Debbie. She watched him warily the whole time. She sniffed his hand but was still wary. Next thing, he goes to his vehicle and gets a chair and an umbrella. He told me he would stay here until she trusts him, so he can get her to a shelter, or take her home. I believe his being there at the right time, was one of those little messages reminding us of the good in our world. Meet Trooper Tudors of the TN State Highway Patrol. She has a message to anyone considering adopting a dog, or any pet for that matter. “Make sure you have all the resources you need and that you are fully prepared for the addition of a furry friend. Dogs need good quality food, a safe home environment, training, attention, exercise, medical treatment, stimulation and companionship. Adopting a dog is a commitment that you make for 10 to 18 years.”
But it goes a little deeper. For dogs, cats, horses, bunnies, and other animals alike. “If you are adopting a specific breed, make sure you understand this breed and have researched their temperament, character and personality," explained Travers. "Make sure that they are suited to your life. For example, a border collie is very well suited to an active person with a large spacious home or a farm.”
This guy has this dog, and she can't walk anymore. So he takes her out for a walk every day in a wheelchair. I couldn't find any words for this
This reminds me of the little girl that did the same thing for her arthritic dog.
There's a chap with an elderly beagle cross who sometimes feels up to walking and sometimes doesn't. When he doesn't, the pushchair comes out. I don't know what will happen when the little dog crosses the rainbow bridge, the man is a recovering alcoholic and he swears the dog saved him.
My dog Stilgar had distemper as a puppy, and it affected both his neurologic system and his muscles. His "long muscles" twitch uncontrollably and constantly (myoclonus). While he was fighting the virus, he lost the ability to walk for two months. His back legs were paralyzed and we didn't know why. He had to wear diapers and belly wraps, and couldn't walk. We still wanted him to enjoy life and the world around us, so we bought a dog stroller and took him everywhere with us :) Fortunately he beat distemper and regained the ability to walk! He still has permanent neurologic damage, balance issues, and the myoclonus, but I'd have happily stroller-pushed him for the rest of his life if need be, as long as he was still enjoying life! THOSE EARS! He's adorable and I hope the rest of his life is long and happy
Load More Replies...Out on the streets, I saw a lonely dog searching for scraps, his hopeful eyes met with indifference. My heart ached, and I knew I had to help. Now, look at him curled up peacefully, his full belly a testament to a new beginning. Adoption is love, and this sweet pup has found his forever home
I adopted my blind dog, and even though he can't see, he's just like any other dog. Every day, I remind him that he's the most beautiful thing to me, that he's unique, and that I love him exactly as he is. He's a happy, healthy, confident, and loving pet! Disabled animals can absolutely enjoy well-being and quality of life, and they deserve forever families! I've never regretted adopting a blind animal; it was the best gift ever.
They are doors that let us open and let the light in, when we are sometimes so dark.
I fostered a blind dog years ago, and I even took her for hikes. She loved getting out. I was careful with her, but most trails are pretty clear of obstacles!
Here's my disabled boy enjoying a trip to the beach! (He had distemper as a puppy and has balance and mobility issues, plus he has myoclonus, which means all of the "long" muscles in his body twitch constantly and uncontrollably, even when he's asleep.) Disabled dogs adjust VERY well to their disabilities and can easily live long, happy lives. Sometimes they need a bit of help from their humans ;) beachdoge-...6d698c.jpg
Our rescue dog developed diabetes and went blind at 1 1/2 years old. We didn't realize it immediately because she memorized the floor plan of the house. She absolutely loved Starbucks puppy cups, and would do the "Starbucks dance" every time we said the word (we had to start saying "SB" instead, but she still picked up on it). A cousin criticized us for giving a diabetic dog whipped cream, but her vet said since she was 9 at the time, and most dogs only live about a year after they developing it, we must be doing something right.
Travers advises going to the shelter and spending time with the animal to see its personality and if the two of you bond. “There must be a connection,” she said. “Adoption is such an easy and beautiful way to get a pet. Not only are you providing a home to an orphaned dog but rescue dogs are the most loving, faithful and devoted companions.”
Travers has two adopted dogs of her own. So she knows what she’s talking about when she says the rescues are among the most loving and loyal. But this woman doesn’t discriminate. To her, all animals are amazing. “Animals cannot speak for themselves, yet they are unconditionally loving and so loyal and devoted to their owner,” she told us. “They have such a positive effect on our life and it's a known fact that our bodies release a lot of endorphins in their presence- the hormones that make us feel good and lift our mood.”
Two photos taken an hour apart... before and after adoption. Dogs are like humans they don't like to be in a cage
This is probably one of the cutest pictures I've ever seen.
Doggo seeking shelter from rain went inside a church where a wedding was being held... And took a nap on the brides veil.
If she were to choose a companion, it’d be man’s - or woman’s best friend. “Dogs are like soul therapy and have a way of naturally warming our hearts and brightening our days. They are such vulnerable, innocent and loving creatures, who do no harm unless it's been taught by humans. They are completely devoted, faithful and love with their whole hearts.”
My dad was under a lot of stress, so we thought getting him a dog might help. Seeing him now surrounded by the dog in a cuddle puddle, it looks like our plan worked!
Kabang: The Hero Who Taught Us the True Meaning of Love and Sacrifice ❤️
In the heart of Zamboanga City, Philippines, a humble dog named Kabang captured the world’s attention with a single, selfless act that would define her life and legacy forever.
One fateful day in 2011, Kabang saw two young girls—her family’s children—crossing the street, unaware of the speeding motorcycle heading straight toward them. Without a moment’s hesitation, Kabang leaped into the path of the oncoming vehicle, saving the girls from what could have been a fatal accident. Her brave act cost her dearly; Kabang sustained severe injuries, losing part of her snout and jaw in the process.
But what Kabang lost physically, she more than made up for in spirit. Her story spread far beyond the Philippines, touching hearts around the globe. People from all walks of life came together to support her recovery, raising funds to send her to the United States for the specialized surgeries she needed. Kabang became a symbol of unconditional love, bravery, and the deep bond that can exist between humans and animals.
Kabang lived the rest of her days surrounded by the love of those who admired her courage. On May 17, 2021, at the age of 13, she peacefully passed away in her sleep, leaving behind a legacy that would inspire generations to come. In July 2021, she was laid to rest near a statue of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, a fitting tribute to a dog whose spirit embodied the very essence of compassion.
In recognition of her extraordinary bravery, a statue was unveiled in Kabang’s honor in Pasonanca Park, Zamboanga City, on August 13, 2021. The statue stands as a permanent reminder of the little dog with a huge heart, who taught the world about the power of love and sacrifice.
Kabang may be gone, but her story will live on forever in our hearts.

This is Togo, the unsung hero of a daring 1925 mission that saved a whole town in Alaska. When a deadly diphtheria outbreak hit Nome, over 10,000 lives were in grave danger. The only hope was to get life-saving medicine across 1,120 miles (1,800 kilometers) of frozen wilderness in just five days. It was a race against time through some of the most extreme and dangerous conditions imaginable. Togo, a brave sled dog, took on the hardest part of the journey, covering an incredible 260 miles (418 kilometers). This is the inspiring story of a real-life hero who defied the odds to save an entire town.
THATS his name. I forgot for a sec. We saw the movie during free time back in 2nd grade 🥲
Load More Replies...From Wikipedia: "ogo (1913 – December 5, 1929) was the lead sled dog of musher Leonhard Seppala and his dog sled team in the 1925 serum run to Nome across central and northern Alaska. Despite covering a far greater distance than any other lead dogs on the run, over some of the most dangerous parts of the trail, his role was left out of contemporary news of the event at the time, in favor of the lead dog for the last leg of the relay, Balto."
This trek to the Iditarod races held every year from Anchorage to Nome.
I watched the start of that race every year I lived in Anchorage knowing the history. It was amazing and depressing how many spectators thought it was just a show for tourists.

Amazingly culled from a true story and a reminder of how deadly life was before vaccines. Please get your kids their DPaTs! (protection from diphtheria, pertussis (another infant killer), and tetanus). And if you think those germs are gone, they resurface wherever immunization lapses or is not available. Yeah, people get natural immunity - the ones who don't die or have permanent health effects. Eye opener to read London hospital records in the 1800s about a family that lost 4 of their 7 children to diphtheria. Togo's story is a great combination of science (antiserum) and low tech reaching where high tech can't.
Load More Replies...Yes, it is! The only reason why Balto is more well known is because he and his musher did the last streak to Nome and actually delivered the medicine. The hardest part of the journey, that was before that, was however mastered by Togo and his musher.
Load More Replies...Ben Dysart, one of the doctor heroes who made that journey, was a friend of my grandparents. I still have the armchair he gave them as a wedding present. Walt Disney made the movie "Balto" about the brave dogs and men who saved so many lives.
"My husband and I rescued this little guy last year...we rescued him from this crazy lady, you could feel him relax when we started to drive away. This was taken on the ride home, he was literally smiling at my husband like this for the rest of the day. Best decision ever. Meet Harry Houdini"
One of the cutest photos I've ever seen it. The love that he has for a man, that he barely knows, is awe inspiring and a testament to how much animals can love.
Sisu. The dog who broke into a Dollar General Store 5 times to steal the same purple unicorn-the same exact one. Not others like it near by, but that one in particular. Animal control was called, and the officer, Officer Lane, bought the toy for him before she brought the dog to the Duplin County Animal Shelter. I got to talk to Officer Lane. She purchased the unicorn with her own money, and said, 'well, it is what he wanted"
I spotted a woman at a feral cat colony, sitting on the cold ground, all bundled up and offering bites of canned cat food to the cats. These feral cats were all over her, rubbing against her and even climbing onto her beat-up old Ford to sit on its warm engine hood. The selflessness of some people is truly heartwarming, especially in our "me-first" society.
When I was a kid I read a picture book about an old lady who always feeds the local stray cats. But then she's forced to go to a retirement home. One night she sneaks out and goes back to her house but can't get inside and it's the middle of winter. But before she can freeze to death, her friends the cats come back and next morning she's peacefully asleep in her purry friend blanket.
I take care of 2 feral colonies, feed them mornings and evenings. I sit and spend time with them while they eat, they all have names and some will come and brush up against me, every once in awhile I can sneak in a pet. I wouldn't trade it for the world
I have a friend in Miami who feeds and cares for the neighborhood feral cats. She's made sure they are all spade and neutered. And she makes sure they received medical treatment as needed. She even has taken in two of them who were no longer able to live outside. I wish more people would do this.
There’s a cat colony down by a canal near my neighborhood. Several women feed and water them, as well as give them rags and boxes for shelter. When a new one shows up, they are taken to get fixed and vaccinated. Truly amazing work!

"Come on, boy!" On our way home, we had stopped by a pet shop to pick up cat food. While there, I noticed a baby crying and saw a sign indicating it was up for adoption. But then, Darrell and Sue Rider saw Bandit's Facebook post. Darrell, also in a wheelchair, felt an instant connection. "He was just like me," Darrell said.
After careful consideration and discussions with the shelter, they finally met Bandit. The connection was undeniable. Bandit's tail wagged furiously, his "smile" wider than ever. They knew Bandit was home.
Saying goodbye at the shelter was bittersweet. But as Bandit settled into his new home, his joy was contagious. He explored every corner, his wheels whirring happily. The Riders were finally complete, their hearts overflowing with love for their furry companion. Bandit, surrounded by love and understanding, had finally found where he belonged.

When one of my dogs died, I decided to get another. I went to my local SPCA, and walked the place flat looking for the "one". As I walked past the last row of kennels, this dog jumped up at me. I walked on a little then turned back. She jumped up again. Mind you, Blaise, was an odd looker. She looked like a Collie who'd had her long legs chopped off and stumps attached instead, and she had an overbite. I asked the staff about her. They told me nobody wanted her because of the overbite. I took that dog home with me. She was Harry Houdini in dog's clothing. Every morning I would have to check my fences for holes. But she was so affectionate, and loving. And her overbite didn't affect her eating at all. Miss that little rascal.
13 years later, and the bond is as strong as ever. From nap times as a baby to shared moments as a teenager, this boy and his loyal dog have grown up together, proving that true friendship stands the test of time. Best friends forever

My mom adopted Violet, a shelter kitten, when I was three years old. As we both got older together, Violet chose me as her favorite human. By the time I was in high school, Violet and I had a routine: every day, I would come home and sit in a chair while Violet would come and fall asleep in my lap. In the midst of chaos on Interstate 24, a true act of loyalty and compassion emerged. Meet Lucky, the courageous dog who refused to leave his injured owner's side during a devastating accident.
When an RV overturned, emergency workers, including firefighters, police officers, and even an air crew, rushed to the scene. Amidst the shouts and sirens, Lucky stayed with his trapped owner, providing comfort and companionship. His unwavering presence allowed his owner to find solace, even in the direst moments.
Bill Compton, the fire chief of the Kuttawa Volunteer Fire Department, witnessed this incredible bond firsthand. "Lucky being there helped the victim keep his mind off things," he said. "He'd pet the dog, talk to the dog."
After the passengers were safely rescued and airlifted to the hospital, Chief Compton carried Lucky away from the noise and activity, calming him down. They took a quiet moment together by the roadside, a poignant reminder of the power of love and loyalty.
Rescue workers, law enforcement officers, military personnel, etc, to me, always seem to have an innate bond with animals, especially animals in distress. Big, tough men and women, doing their duty, dealing with the worst situations, day in and day out, and along comes some poor creature and those men and women become putty in their paws. There's not much more redeeming than that.
“Found this boy tied up outside a supermarket. Stayed for hours until I realized they just abandoned him. I searched for days trying to find out if anyone forgot him, lost or anything but to no avail. Today I just passed the chip in my name. We are officially a family!!!
When I told him he smiled and I took a picture to share!!!! Animals do have feelings. You will never feel this much pain and insecurity again! “
Again puppy jackpot. Ridiculously adorable doggo. Congratulations that hooman, is a very blessed hooman. That puppy will bring years of happiness.
So you checked off the vet on your to-do list. Is the beauty parlor next? He looks clean, thank you, but nails and a trim might be good for him. I wouldn't leave him alone there though. Just tell him guys go to the beauty parlor too
You can tell that hooman loves his baby so much. You can feel the love between the two. These pictures and stories, are almost too much cuteness to bare.
We recently adopted these two from a rescue. Here's what they did once we got into the car.
Amidst the disgust of people calling us every day to leave their dog at the shelter, how much beauty is there in an 80-year-old lady who asked us to adopt a dog of her age!!! And so an elderly dog that was thrown out of a car on the highway 15 days ago is now a life partner to a very nice grandma!
I can not imagine literally throwing a dog away because they got old. My senior pup, 16 years 4 months, and 9 days (I've had him since he was born), spends his life sleeping. Yes, there are more oopes, yes, sometimes we need to carry him outside, sometimes he gets "lost" or "stuck" because he is blind and deaf and has forgotten he can back up. Caring for him means we stay close to home, all travel on hold. But as long as he doesn't seem to be in pain, he will remain being cared for in the only home he has ever known.
As it should be. He knows he's safe with you until the end.
Load More Replies...Damn, there’s a lot of judgement in that first sentence. What if they moved and can no longer have a pet? What if they had kids and the dog isn’t good with them? What if they can no longer pay for the things a dog needs? And what would you rather they do, tie it up and leave it somewhere? Sometimes the shelter is the only decent choice.
I know I’m late to this party, but here goes: Yeah, but you still don’t throw the dog out of your car window and onto a busy highway. That right there says it wasn’t desperation. They wanted the poor elderly dog to get hit by a car and die, to justify them going out and getting a puppy. Some people don’t realize that the commitment you make to your pets is supposed to be for their entire lives. Just because the dog who was once a lot of fun to play with is now getting old and doesn’t play that much anymore doesn’t mean you can just throw them away. Do you want your kids to throw YOU out of a window and onto a busy highway when you get old and infirm? I didn’t think you would. So why do that to an animal, when you’re supposed to take care of them their entire life?

Willie Nelson Rescued 70 Horses From a Slaughterhouse and Let Them Roam Free on His Ranch
Willie Nelson, the renowned musician has another reason to be loved, he is also a devoted horse lover. In fact, he went to great lengths to rescue 70 horses from being slaughtered. These fortunate horses now roam freely on his expnsive 700-acre ranch in Texas.
When he's not on tour, Nelson spends most of his time at Luck Ranch, which he considers his true home. The name "Luck" holds a special meaning for him in more ways than one. In an interview with Paul Venema from KSAT 12 News, Nelson expressed, "When you're here, you're in Luck, and when you're not, you're out of Luck."
Undoubtedly, the horses are incredibly fortunate, and Nelson agrees. He shared with Venema, "My horses are probably the luckiest horses in the world. They get hand-fed twice a day, and they were just ready to go to slaughter, which is probably the last thing they remembered. So, they're happy horses."
Nelson has always had a deep affection for horses. His song "Ride Me Back Home" is a testament to his love for these majestic creaturs. In 2015, Nelson even received an award for the music video of his song "The Love of Horses." The video showcases Nelson meeting with members of Habtats for Horses, who were actively working to end horse slaughter through legislative efforts.
The love for horses runs in the family as well. Nelson's son, Lukas, supports organizations like Saving America's Horses and Habitat for Horses. Lukas Nelson & Promise, the younger Nelson's band, have also expressed their admiration for horses through their music.
At nearly 90 years old, Nelson shows no signs of slowing down or shying away from issues he feels strongly about. (Who can forget his album against Monsanto?) When asked about retirement, Nelson simply replied, "I retire after every show. I say, 'That's it, I'm not goin' no more,' but then we hang out awhile and people [the band] feel like playing, and so we go play again."
Willie Nelson doesn’t need god, he’s got 70 horses.

She did that, sometimes, with artists or public figures, until she saw something like this, at which point her opinion would do a 180. Then she'd go and read up on these people, and tell me all about it.
With a newborn at home, some people think they need to rehome their dog. However, I’m sharing this photo of a family whose 15-year-old Jack Russell Terrier is cherished as one of their children—after all, he was their first "baby." This loyal dog also serves as a protector for his two human siblings. Don't use having a baby as an excuse to give up your pet, even if a doctor suggests it or you come up with other reasons. Always remember, pets are family too.
Children brought up to care for animals have fewer medical issues, learn compassion, responsibility, always have someone to talk to and cuddle, and enrich their lives far beyond what petless children experience.
My pitbull was my daughter 's best friend from before she was born. He would sleep with his big head on my belly and after she was born would lay down as close to her as possible. On the day he died ( 13 years old ) he tried to climb on to her bed in the morning to say goodbye. I pulled her out of school that afternoon to let her say goodbye to her lifelong friend before he was cremated. She has a locket with his ashes ( and one with those of our next dog ) it's her most treasured possession.

Heart was abandoned over a year ago after a move, found sick and broken-hearted in a garden without food. This year, Giovanna, a dedicated volunteer from Bitonto, cared for Heart, offering her love during her final days. She accompanied Heart on her last journey, where she peacefully drifted off, facing the sea.
Giovanna shared these moments, imagining Heart’s final thoughts:
“It was beautiful—the wind gently caressed my ears, the waves rhythmically beat against the rocks, and the sound of the sea filled the still winter air. It was so peaceful that I nearly fell asleep, forgetting the pain of being abandoned, the ache of my wounds, and the sorrow of not being able to run with the puppy chasing his stone.
One last breath of freedom.”

A picture with a myriad of meanings – Look after your neighbors.
I have a lovely upstairs neighbour who looks after my cats every time i have to go into hospital.
I live in an area of town that's mostly poor people, one step up from homelessness. Most of them mostly do odd jobs when they have to. Most of them take d***s when they can afford to. If I have to go to the hospital, there are several I can call to look in on the cats. Nothing will be stolen or harmed.
Most dogs tend to be either aggressive towards strangers or prefer to stay within the confines of their yard. However, this particular dog has become incredibly crafty and intelligent. He discovered that by sitting in a certain spot, looking poised and adorable, he could get something he absolutely loved—pets!
He has strategically chosen a location where he is easily accessible to everyone passing by, allowing them to pet or rub him without feeling intimidated or inconvenienced. We find this behavior absolutely heartwarming. This dog is truly living his best life!
My dog figured out when he was a puppy that if he lay across the walkway, people would have to stop and most would pet him
Tucker loved everybody. Strangers were friends he hadn't met yet. I couldn't afford to fence the yard, so I had one of those leads with a run for him. At least once a week, he'd manage to slip off the lead and go visiting. He'd make his rounds, then come back home on his own. I never got one complaint about him bothering anybody. He just went around sharing love.
"My child is a tripod. I met him when he was saved from an accident and fell in love with him. When they told me his leg would be cut off I told them I don't care. I still want him! Now he has fully recovered. He is full of confidence, joy, energy and is no different than any other dog. When they see us on the street they say oh, poor thing... is suffering perhaps... Nope! He is not poor and he does not suffer. He's a very happy animal. A disabled animal can live a life full of joy and quality. As long as we want it."
This little guy, Charlie, wasn't always the spunky ball of fur you see here. We found him abandoned on the side of the road, his matted fur clinging to his frail body. His front legs, twisted at an unnatural angle, spoke of a past filled with hardship. Our hearts ached for him.
Taking Charlie in was a no-brainer. Despite his physical limitations, his spirit was remarkably bright. His tail thumped a happy rhythm against the floor as we carried him inside.
The vet diagnosed Charlie with a birth defect in his front legs. While surgery was possible, it wasn't an option for us. But that wouldn't slow Charlie down. With a custom-fitted wheelchair, he zoomed around like a furry little race car.
The outpouring of love from our community helped us raise funds for Charlie's care. He became a symbol of resilience, a furry ambassador for adoption and acceptance.
Charlie's journey reminds us that even the most broken hearts can find hope. And sometimes, all it takes is a little love and a second chance.

This time, she began her journey on August 31, with her disabled Jack Russell, Dinky, for company as she covers between 15 and 20 miles a day. The trip sees Jane carrying everything she needs on her back, including her tent, food, and a few key belongings. After that initial journey, she caught the taste for the open road, and travelled to visit friends near Fort Augustus, near Loch Ness, Highlands, every autumn since. Her epic journey usually takes around seven weeks, depending on weathr, and Jane uses it as a chance to pop in and say hi to people she has met over the years. She sustains herself on porridge, oatcakes, and cheese, and doesn’t need much electricity as she has an old mobile phone with a battery that lasts six weeks
Jane is still around, hopefully she may ride this year too. And she has publishished books! • Article: www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-12735287/Pensioner-82-completes-600-mile-ride-England-Scotland-horse-Diamond-7-week-trip-shes-year-1972.html • Books: https://uk.bookshop.org/shop/thesteepletimes
Impressed by the horse, having been able to stay 13 yo for over 50 years!
I recently visited my local shelter to make a donation, and a special moment occurred. It looked at me with a familiar expression, and in that instant, we connected. We left the shelter together, and now, I am overjoyed to have become a mom to the cutest little one! Shelters are filled with hidden gems; I urge you to go and discover them for yourself!
My first foster dog came with her 8 puppies. I already owned three dogs, so I was going to just FOSTER! I had a friend who offered to help as I worked, and she said she could talk to animals. My foster, Abbie, was telling her she was supposed to be my dog. I resisted, because Abbie was a handful! I laid her to rest two years ago after 13 years together. She knew.
She delivered a remarkable litter of 14 precious puppies. Her face glowed with happiness as she gazed at them. They were the greatest gift she could ever imagine. Please send her your love. She truly deserves all the warmth!
This man truly touched my heart. In the blistering heat of Campo Grande, with the sun blazing down, I witnessed an unforgettable scene. While many people let their pets suffer with burned paws, this gentleman went out of his way to carry his dog on his back, using a piece of cardboard to provide shade. It's acts like this that restore my faith in humanity!
"A negligent dog owner dumped this wolf at a shelter when he became too large and difficult to handle. Fortunately, a sanctuary took him in and saved his life. His DNA test results indicate he is 87.5% grey wolf, 8.6% Siberian Husky, and 3.9% German Shepherd"
Not good. Dog DNA diluting/mixing with wolf population. You can tell because they are blondish whereas wolves are grey.
Is it the perspective of the camera angle or are Wolves really that big?
Wolves are gigantic. I was fortunate to be able to visit a wolf sanctuary when I was a teenager and there were several wolves there that were tame enough to be petted/approached by visitors. I got to pet a black wolf (ironically, his name was Dakota) and he was huge. They told us he weighed over 100 lbs, and when he stood up and put his paws on my shoulders and licked my face, he was taller than I was (I'm 5'5".) His paws were larger than my hands. The other funny thing I learned that day is that wolves are NOT soft! Their fur is incredibly dense, but they're not soft like dogs are XD

While I was waiting for this flight I chatted with a pilot about these animal rescue transports and he said there are a bunch of pilots who do this because a pilot trying to get hired commercially needs flight hours. Instead of just flying around, this gives them a great cause to support while they get their hours. This trend is taking off
I know my uncle who had his own plane had to do so many take offs and landing each month to maintain his license. I went up in his small plane with my cousin once just for him to do take offs and landings. This is do much better, to rescue dogs in the process!
If love was a picture this would be it.
Just adopted, Neo is on his way to his forever home, wrapped in the warmth of this perfect hug. He’s already filled our lives with so much joy and love. His sweet snuggles remind us daily how truly special it is to have a dog.
May this love grow even stronger with each passing day.
I took in my boy after he lost his dad in an accident. It took months for him to trust me and find happiness. He often feels panicked and anxious. At the mall, he’s frightened by the steps and nearly everything else. When that happens, I hug him and softly sing to him. It always calms him down, making him feel safe. Even though he's a large wolfdog, he has a soul and character. Together, we'll find happiness again. This is how I grow with my companion.
That looks like a sable German Shepherd to me. If he has any wolf DNA, he's an EXTREMELY low-percentage wolfdog.

That is NOT 1886! I recognize Queen Elizabeth, mother of Elizabeth II, grandmother of King Charles III. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born in 1900. No idea of the date of photo or identities of the other people.
Looking at the fashions and the cars I'd say 1940's.

Thank you to all the wonderful humans who provide love and care to animals in need. You are all so awesome.
And I need to go pet my dog now, who is asleep on the couch.

Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?" ~Marley and Me
If you are loved by an animal, you're rich.

The vet figured she was about 6 weeks old. And she had cerebellar hypoplasia. We decided to nurse her back to health and find a good home for her. We kept her for 16 years. We lost her to cancer. She was the best girl. I still miss my Baby.
I wonder what cats think when we turn on/off lights in our homes.
