We bought the house in our neighborhood when we were young. Fifty years later, not so young. Our neighborhood has a "Snow Angels" group to shovel snow for free for "old folks" like us. Glad we never moved. The neighbors are awesome.

I do 3 wishes every year around thanksgiving so the kids will get what they want by Christmas. They ask for so little, I feel like 75% of the US population could probably do one wish each.

For real! One year I bought a winter jacket and a pair of sneakers; in a way, it’s heartbreaking that their greatest wish is what most of us consider necessities…

Had never heard of. Highly rated on charity advisor. Some of the wishes seem a bit "iffy" to me. (eg asking for money for Doordash deliveries) but it does appear that not just anybody can submit a wish. You have to go through your case worker or a charity like your church and have them submit the wish for you.

I disagree with you on the door dash. When I was a teenager, my parents' church sent volunteers to help build HUB homes for the summer. One of the volunteers told this story: It was the little boy's birthday. His mom had him invite seven of his friends, and she took them to McDonald's and bought them A hamburger. One-eighth of a McDonald's hamburger, and this little boy was thrilled to death. It was the saddest thing I'd ever heard. For a foster kid, who can easily feel worthless, to have someone come to the door with food he got to choose and order himself might well be a very powerful thing.

Most of what gets posted is about negative stuff, so it's easy to start thinking all of humanity has gone over the edge. But I don't personally see things like that in real life, so I try not to let it scorch my view of people in general when I see the bad stuff.

I discovered one night when I got home from work my regular parking spot that was close to the stairs to my apartment was taken. I had to park over in front of an apartment I knew a senior husband and wife live in. I would get home by midnight, sometimes later. The night I had to change my parking spot, what did I see? The wife sitting patiently at the window. It’s dark. Nothing to look at. I can only assume that when I came home from work, she was always sitting in that window to make sure I got into my apartment safe. She is an angel now. Thank you, my guardian angel.

I don’t know if it’s happened to me, I like to think it has, the borderline crazy one I did once which I’ve never spoken about. I left a nightclub to go back to my car and go home and 2 metres away was the most wasted girl I’ve ever seen, incoherent but still conscious in a garden bed, surrounded by about 15-20 guys, all guys, just standing and watching and not helping her. I got out and scared out of my mind made every man account for who they were and then spent about 15 minutes trying to verify if she knew all these men if any. Took 40mins to work out that 7 were her legit biological brothers, the rest of the guys were the brothers’ uni friends, got their mum and dad on the phone at home to help let me know they weren’t all creeps and to thank me - I made a point to check ID, I felt like weirdo but I explained I was going to throw her in my car and take her home to sleep in my spare room if I felt like they were going to rape or rob her etc (I bluntly said it all straight to their faces). So glad it worked out but it was so scary to deal with alone at 2am

Take heed, people. THIS is what we’re supposed to do, look after each other. The woman noticed OP at the bus stop way early in the morning when it’s still dark for most of the year. Her husband knew she was right, and was more than happy to step up and get up early to go sit with her to make sure she was safe. Honestly, if you see someone in need, even if you’re in the same boat, just do what you can to help them. Even just silently sitting by them to make sure they’re safe and OK is sometimes just enough to make them feel better, to feel not so all alone.

I have to award the husband .. the " man of the year ", award for his selflessness and obedience, throughout all of this. There will have been times, when he thought" why ", " is this honestly necessary ", shouldn't i be sleeping ??! But you dont have to be a great man ! But you do have to be a man

Ken is apparently blissfully unaware that removing abortion prohibitions would not remove medical ethics and doctor discretion. Abortions by choice at 8 months would not happen if restrictions were removed because doctors wouldn't risk their license to do them.

I couldn’t decide which post to reply to, so here it is Ken Beattie. All these decisions about abortion made anywhere in the government, the number majority seated in that branch are men. MEN. Therefore, it’s MEN who are telling us what to do with our bodies. My feeling on it is when a man can get pregnant and have a baby, you may have an opinion. Until then, it’s we WOMEN who get to make the decision about it. I know I’ll get downvoted like crazy. Maybe put in the BP corner for a while. Don’t care.

I don't disagree with women putting their views forward. As I've said multiple times I'd like to see sensible laws determined by the medical community in *conjunction with women*. Frankly, the church and politicians should have zero input. The RULES should be determined by those most skilled in the area (medical) and those affected (women). The politicians only part in this should be to rubber stamp the legislation once it's finalized. Something that everyone downvoting apparently fails to see because they all seem to assume that wanting concrete laws is the same as denying women choice. And I should also stress *getting those concrete laws right* and implemented nationwide.

Why don't we take all of the people who think that they had rights over our bodies, put them in a big flat state in the middle of the country, fence them in, and let them make it their own sovereign nation to f**k up as they please.

Eh. We're not qualified to judge diddly squat about other people. We can nurture, feed, clothe, heal, teach, inspire, or shelter them but we are *not to judge them. That's above our pay grade. Those micromanaging, self-important hypocrites are trying to foment division. Doubt they're any sort of christian.

Every time I see cancer survival stories it brings a tear to my eye. My nan wasn't as lucky, but she still had 5 good years with us, and she was so strong up until the end. But to see people able to overcome it, at first, after my grandma's death, I was bitter, I'll admit it, but then realising how awful it is to go through, and how awful it is to lose someone to it, I'm thankful that more and more people are able to pull through. Actually, I’m sorry I have to disagree. When I was younger, I did some shamefully racist things that my mother had to call me out for. It wasn’t in public, rather in the home, but I was being a bad example for my sister. My actions spoke “this person has different physical features and they look funny.” I wasn’t taught how to do that, I simply did…

Custodians, janitors and cleaners have a huge impact on morale in the workplace. Imagine how depressing it would to work in a place that was dingy and dirty and uncared for. They're as much part of the company as any other employee is, and their contribution is vital. Everyone deserves respect and appreciation for their contribution.

It is NEVER too late to learn. I wish my mother would realize this. I'm 41, and I have learned new things and better ways to treat people more humanely and kindly, and to respect who they are and what they care about and things that are important to them. It costs nothing to use someone's preferred pronouns or proper name. It costs nothing to treat people of color as who they are - normal human beings like any other human being. It hurts me to see my mother be so purposefully racist, obtuse, and cruel, even to people she has never met.

I'm a white guy. I've never had a problem with "Black Lives Matter", either as a slogan or as a movement. Why? To me, "Black Lives Matter" doesn't mean "ONLY Black Lives Matter" or "Other Lives DON'T Matter" or "Black Lives Matter More". To me, it has always meant "Black Lives Matter, too", "Black Lives ALSO Matter", "Hey! Don't forget: Black Lives Matter." When I smash my thumb with a hammer, I don't go to a doctor, hold up my hands and say "All fingers matter. Look at all of them so that nobody feels neglected." I show him my thumb and say "I smashed my thumb with a hammer. Is it broken?" Maybe if, when an innocent and unarmed black person is a victim of violence the media just said "Wow! What a tragedy! This should never happen!" instead of "Wow! That's so sad ... BUT ..." and follow up with excuses why it happened, maybe Black people wouldn't feel just a bit smashed by the hammer. Tell you what: I'll start saying "All Lives Matter" when we all start acting like it.

Oddly enough I had to arrange braille exams sheets for a blind student at my university about 15 years ago. His subject was Law. With digital books and software programmes that read text out loud, it is changing. Textbooks are SO expensive because they are technical and don't sell in vast quantities. This is one area where digitisation is a blessing.

I had a similar experience as a teen. I was in a long term psychiatric facility for teenagers, and one day I'd really had it. I flung myself at the locked doors from a running jump- and then the entire scene disappeared and became a garden. I saw a person who told me it was not my time to go yet, and then the scene vanished as I was removed from the area limb by limb. It's remained with me for the past 25years.

Sometimes all it takes is that one reminder that life might have a bit more to offer you. About ten years ago I was getting ready to swallow a bottle of pills when my sister texted me. My phone screen lit up and I saw my background photo of my then 2-year old nephew, and saw my sister's text asking if I wanted to come over to her place to play mario kart. I'm still here today and doing a LOT better.

Danny is another example (very similar to Keanu Reeves) that other celebrities and wealthy people would be right to follow if they too want to actually BE good human beings and not just claim that they are. In fact, Danny and Keanu's lives are not that dissimilar in how they are led.

I don't like watching movies, mainly because I can't sit still for that length of period and I just get distracted too easily. And if I do manage to watch a whole movie, I hate RE- watching them, the same as I very rarely will re-read a book. The one exception is Matilda. I can watch that one over and over. And I was an adult when it came out! It's just the perfect movie.

My neighbor across the street has done that for me also. I used to work in a city about an hour away and there was no easy/quick way to get there. When the weather was bad, she watched for me to get home and would call me when I arrived to make sure I was OK. She told me she worried until she knew I was safe and sound. If she didn't see me for a few days, coming and going, she would call to see if I was OK and if I needed anything. I love her to pieces!

I live in the middle of nowhere, on my own. My nearest neighbor (a farmer) is 1km away. He and the farmer who lives the other way pop in every now and then for a chat, a coffee, some water, etc. One time, when he was leaving, I said thanks for the visit, and he replies "We're just making sure you're okay, and we've not seen you outside in a while." (It was raining heavily so no yard work.) They did this almost from the moment I moved here.

There's nothing like facing the question of your own mortality to make you think about the things that really matter to you. When the pandemic started, given that I am not a healthy person, I was very much afraid that I might catch COVID and die. So I asked myself, "What's the one thing I really, really want to do before I die?" The answer was "I wanna see the Northern Lights!" Well, I got all boostered up and when I did catch COVID I came out of it just fine, so now to start working at going up North and seeing those lights dance in the sky.

To those fellow Pandas out there who are living with suicidal thoughts every day - I know how hard it is. I know how much you want to unalive yourself; I do too. But we each have our own "bucket list" in our hearts, even if we haven't written it down anywhere. Find your bucket inside of you, and grab that list that's sitting in it. There are reasons to fight and to live, for all of us. You are worth it, you are valued, and you are loved by me. Stay strong, and I'll try to stay strong right along with you :)

I've read your comments and 'heard' all of the stories about your life you have felt comfortable enough share with us and I want you to know, I respect you so much. I admire your graciousness, your spirit, your willingness to continually give little snippets of yourself if you know it may help others, all while keeping a positive light while suffering with your own negative thoughts. You always champion for others, but know that you too "are worth it, you are valued, and you are loved by me". Keep on hanging in there beautiful person! :)

As someone working in the linguistics and language services field I get so angry when native speakers of a language make fun of a non-native speaker who is struggling and making every attempt to learn their language. I hate when I am trying my best to speak in another language and people get impatient and try to speak to me in English. It can be extremely nerve-racking to speak to a native speaker when you are learning a second language. People will always appreciate kindness and patience when learning a new language.

This is why I don't speak Spanish. I'm Latina, but I didn't learn it until I was in my teens. Extended family would tease me when I tried to practice and make me feel stupid for not knowing how certain words are pronounced. :(

When I was younger I traveled internationally. The only hope of using another language was a phrasebook. But I always made a point to learn three phrases: thank you, please & excuse me. And would frequently ask people there how to say something new to me. It was easy to tell that they appreciated an American trying *at all* to learn something of their language. Even if it wasn't much & probably poorly spoken. Never underestimate the power & importance of trying to respect another culture. Whatever that culture is. Another country or another social group..

Summed up: Young man was struggling with the tie, the woman in red noticed and asked her husband to help him. A stranger captured the moment and some faith in humanity was restored in 2015.

The number if men I've tied a tie for, blows my mind. As a woman, with no experience wearing them, I've tied them for parents, partners, children, and a whole slew of friends because they're so rarely worn. But it's crazy, why is it so f*****g hard? It is though, I always have to do it like 2 or 3 times to remember. F*****g ties. But this man rocks!

I did this commuting to work. I worked in a Chemical Lab, so I used to wear ratty looking clothing, so the dude didn't know if I could help 😁. I did help but I had to do on myself and take it off for him. I can't still do it on someone else's neck.

I learned how to tie a tie when I was younger, because my Dad wasn't home before my brother had to get dressed for his graduation pictures. This was LONG before Google or YouTube. I just went over and asked my neighbor to show me. I taught my brother & my son. Many years later my new neighbor came over and asked if I knew how. I think he was shocked a woman did. Who do you think dresses half the men in this country? We laugh about that to this day.

Hear me out - John for U.S. president - Keanu as VP. Then after 2 terms swap That's 16 years of John/Keanu in charge of America. Tell me there is not hope for mankind where this is a possibility. I'm thinking insulin costs sorted in the first week - Medical system should not take them more than a year. That leaves plenty of time to sort global warming and racism/homophobia/immigration. The last 3 or 4 years they can just kick back and chill. Tell me you don't want this to happen.

Several years ago. I took my son and his grandfather to a WWE event. We were waiting outside for the wrestlers to arrive, with pen and paper in hand, hoping to get an autograph. It started to rain. None of the wrestlers stopped, and we had given up on getting a signature from anyone. When Cena came by, he was obviously in a hurry to get out of the rain. He looked over at us, then suddenly stopped. He came over to us and signed his autograph while standing in the pouring rain. 100% class act.

It is devastating and horrifying to be an American right now. Fearing and hating your fellow citizens who choose to slaughter innocent people with weapons they shouldn't own. Those of us in America who are against assault weapon ownership feel compassion and empathy towards the victims of mass shootings. It hurts all of us as if they were our own family.

Please America. Stop with the guns. There are so many among you who don't deserve this. One day it could be someone you love, and what then? Have some compassion. I am not one of you, but I can only imagine how scary the thought that children go to school blissfully unaware it's their last day on earth. It is not something that should happen in a country that calls itself a 1st world country and the land of the free, because fearing for your life is not freedom, it's a horrific imprisonment.

It is absolutely terrifying. I have family in both the United Kingdom and United States and moved from UK for my current work position. I don't think I would ever want to raise a child here right now from the senseless gun violence to hyper conservatives and fanatical religious groups trying to ban LGBTQIA+ rights and literature. It disgusts me that some people seek to ban rights for minority groups but scream and cry and say that there constitutional freedoms are being taken away when there are political discussions to ban assault rifles. It is scary because you NEVER know where a mass shooting could happen. I feel that some people here have become so desensitized to gun violence that nothing ever changes.

Virginia school officials have argued that Abigail Zwerner’s pending $40 million lawsuit against them after she was shot by one of her 6 year old students should be dismissed as the shooting was but a “workplace injury" and thus she should only be entitled to file a worker’s compensation claim. They claimed the shooting was a hazard of the job. And people wonder why it's hard to find young adults who want to become educators.

There was this old man who had arthritis in his hands and knitting helped ease the pain so every year he would knit enough hats for everyone in my school (it was a pretty small school, like 200 people or so). I chose this purple and gold hat, and I thought nothing else of it. A few years later, I got curious and flipped the hat inside out for some reason. Inside the hat there was this beautiful rainbow knitted pattern, like a little secret inside the hat, and it made me happy because I knew that took a lot of work to make :)

This makes me want to learn to knit. If I can do something that brings comfort to someone - a hat for someone struggling with poverty and homelessness, a blanket for a newborn, a rug for kitties or doggos in shelters - that makes a difference. It's small, and it won't shift the rock of suffering that humanity is trying to shatter, but it does make a difference to someone, and that's what matters.

This happened to us! A woman donated to our online donation fund when we crashed our car, one of us lost our jobs and then became homeless as a result all within 2 months. Talk about rock bottom. After speaking with her for a while, she ended up giving us the car she was selling!

Just a little friendly heads-up..."bawling" means to cry really hard, while "balling" means to have sex. 😁. Was cracking up at the mental image your sentence conjured. Like, they're doing WHAT at their desk, now??? 🤣

It was recently the 20th anniversary of my grandmothers passing, she was the one that raised me as my mother was incapable. The pain of loss is always there, you just learn to live with it as an extension of yourself. Can't believe it's been 20 years but I'm looking on the bright side- that's a whole 20 years down until we're together again ❤

My grandma would send a card with $2.00 in it every birthday. (I was born in the 50s) And every time we came to visit she would make my sister and I a washcloth doll. Roll the wash cloth into a long roll, bend over the top and secure with a rubber band. Then she would draw eyes and nose and mouth on with a pencil. We loved it so much!

storytime: my most prized possession is a birthday card from my late grandfather. He spent a while in the hospital before he passed. My birthday is in early November but he died more like mid-late November. When I traveled out there for his funeral, my mom approached me with a birthday card they found lying on the kitchen counter. It was unsigned, but he got it ahead of time just before going to the hospital. It’s a wonderful card. Miss you gramps.

Similar situation happened with my miniature dachshund “Lovins”. I was was giving a friend a ride to visit her parents and out ran their boy miniature dachshund, straight to me and my dog . After noticing how well they played and mannerisms were alike… we had realized our pups came from the same place! We had both chose the 2 puppies outta the litter with known health issues/defects . For the same reasons we knew that even those puppies deserved and needed love too and we had it to give them, in case nobody else would! Happy to say our brother and sister duo lived for 12 and 17 long healthy years … reuniting on a regular basis for 10 of those years!

When my sister got a liver transplant it was like a magic spell— we could literally watch the jaundice start to fade from her face the very first day. The transformation was incredible. She’s had over twenty years of healthy life since, and we’re grateful for every day of it. Organ transplants are a genuine miracle of science. Donate your organs folks!

My husband had a liver transplant August 3, 3022. The doctors had told us that he had one to two weeks of life left, & that pushing 2 weeks was being very generous. Hey had it done in 6 hours, about 2 hours post transplant I finally got to go in and see him. It was absolutely AMAZING to see how quickly that liver started working and how much less jaundiced he looked already. It took about a month for his bilirubin levels to return to completely normal & I cried tears or joy the day they did. He's 9 months post transplant, & doing fabulous so far. We still do not know (or if we ever will) if it was a man or woman, young or old, one day we would love to find out. Regardless,

That's the great thing about liver transplants. You can donate your liver while you are still alive, and what's left of yours will grow to replace what was removed.

I have always wanted to be an organ donor if the opportunity came about. I made it clear to my family, I had it noted on my license, and registered with an organ donor bank. I was diagnosed with ALS last November, and can no longer be a donor. I was disappointed to find this out, and when I expressed S to the person at the organ donor bank. I was told that my body would still be a value to a medical school, research facility, etc.

I loved shopping at Kmart. Glad to hear that they were compassionate to and supportive of their employees. I wish more employers would let workers bring their children if it is feasible. I worked at a convenience store that let me bring my young daughter to work. This money helped pay her sisters school tuition. I am also grateful to the people I clean house sure because they also let me bring her with me.

I have taught my children (now adults) and their children to never, ever lose the childlike wonder that allows you to be goofy, have fun and live in the moment. The stressful responsibilities of adulting shouldn't prevent you from truly enjoying each moment for what it truly is... a new opportunity to laugh and be grateful that you can.

Reminds me of that adorable Christmas ad about the old guy who keeps lifting one of those kettle weights every day and his neighbours think he's being daft, but it turns out he's training for when he will lift his grandkid so the kid can put the star on top of the Christmas tree.

My daughter was born when my maternal grandparents were in their '80s. They both refused to hold her because they were afraid. I said, "That's not a problem. Why don't you both sit on the couch and hold her while you're sitting down?" They both did, and after that carried her around endlessly. It's unusual to be able to know your great grandparents, and I'm infinitely thankful my daughter had 10 years to do so.

I would love it if pandas would stop downvoting people for asking questions. It takes a lot for someone to ask questions when they don't know something, but want to learn. We should be rewarding them, not punishing them.

A gentle reminder (not to you Nikki, but the wider panda public) that downvotes lead to bans and should be used when encountering harassment and bullying. You can also report the post itself (the three little dots near the user name). You don't have to upvote, but downvotes should be used sparingly for those who deserve a telling off.

Despite the apparent evidence that the internet is populated by trolls who want to watch the world burn, the truth is the majority of us, online and off, want to see our fellow humans do well and to support them in the daily struggles. We aren't born knowing how to do everything, and its an act of bravery to ask. And if I know the answer, I'll always share it - judgement free. It's how we all grow.

The most wholesome thread I've ever read was posted by a woman who's been deaf since birth, asking folks to describe sounds without referencing other sounds, so she could understand them. The entire thing was troll-free, and resulted in a really beautiful discussion comparing different senses to others

That would be a heaven for my introvert, social anxiety ridden, but very proud self. I hate doing new things because I'm so freakin' scared to make a fool out of myself so I usually stick to what I am already comfortable with. The internet was very liberating for me because I could ask silly question about pretty much anything and most likely I will find the answer or the instructions. I don't know if anyone outside from Italy remembers it: the Manuale delle giovani marmotte. It's a manual that Donald Duck's three nephews had, being member of an organization similar to Boy scouts. Well, whenever they needed some infos about anything they could "magically" find it in their book and I've always wanted a book like that. Well, having a smartphone with internet access is kinda the same thing and I love it!

i work in a big name coffee shop. sometimes you can tell people are intimidated by the menu, the drink names or size names. and i always tell them to take their time, ask questions (and to call the drinks small, medium or large, because we dont really care what they call them, as long as we can translate it into our sizes). the number of people you see physically relax when you say things like that is amazing. sometimes people need an extra moment to finish deciding their order, so instead of standing staring i'll just say 'you keep looking, and i'll get your cakes/food on' or find something to do that just means i'm not hovering over them making them feel pressured.

Automatic car washes. Omg. I have a more modern car and the number of things I have to turn off (automatic stop/start, windscreen wipers etc), no handbrake, put in neutral. Keep feet off the football. Close the sodding sunroof. Honestly, so stressful.

Hahaha!!! This happened to me once, well my parents, only worse. My mom called and asked me to go to her house because she was at work and new furniture was arriving. I go and people come with the UGLIEST furniture making me wonder what had happened to my real mother lol. Soon after them, my dad pulled in.... HE had bought new furniture too... and told me not to call and tell my mom...the ugly ones ha! Mom got home and the OTHER people arrived. We gave the ugly furniture to my grandma. Dad was never allowed to choose furniture alone again. I was sure glad when mom showed up as I didn't want to give secrets away. But things were getting rough!! Lol

I have mixed feelings on that. I don't know much about the movie I assume you're referring to, but from what I've heard, it was stupidly under-researched and portrayed by a neurotypical person. However, the intent was to promote inclusion and acceptance towards those who act outside the norm. Yes, a lot of people have autism that isn't immediately noticeable, but there are also those who have a harder time acting in the way that society deems "normal". What I'm trying to say is, it wasn't executed well at all, but I don't think it was malicious intent. (Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these points, and I'd be happy to listen to other sides of this issue) Edit: I've read through all the replies I've gotten so far, and I just want to say thank you for showing me your views on this. Again, I haven't seen the movie (in fact, most on the info I've seen on it comes from BP) and yeah, this is a complicated issue because it seems that the intent was good but the "research," execution, representation, and response to backlash were absolutely terrible.

This hits me hard. My dad had an accident when I was 18 and sustained a catastrophic brain injury. He lived for another 21 years, and we took care of him at home, but my dad was gone on that day in 2000. He died two years ago and I miss him twice - once for the dad that I lost on the day of his accident, and once for the day he died in the hospital with me holding his hand. I was the only one in my family who stayed at his side until he died.

I attended a party for a professor who was born and raised in Germany, then came to the USA to teach. He decided to become a U.S. citizen, and had a celebration when he gained his new citizenship. One person asked him what it was like being a citizen of the US as opposed to Germany, and he said, "Well, for one thing now I win both World Wars."

And yet… I will never forget that, shortly after her stellar performance at The Olympics, she posted a picture on her social media of herself enjoying some kind of creamy, delicious frozen drink, like a milkshake or a Frappuccino, and captioned it with something like how nice it was to be able to indulge her sweet tooth again. Some “Karen” replied with ‘she should be ashamed of herself for being a lazy slacker and letting herself go.’ Biles had the perfect reply- that after pretty much constantly being in training for competitions for the last dozen years, she was looking forward to taking a year off as she’d promised herself to do before going back to her training, and that she wasn’t going to let anyone try to make her feel bad for taking a well-deserved break. And, by the way, lady- how many Olympic gold medals have YOU won?

From personal experience, not creating/working & also resting properly (and being able to with a clear conscience) seems to destroy people, turn them into incredible asssholes, undermine society, ultimately reduce productivity, breed second rate results, and upend the entire world fabric....... or all at once

For anyone like me not aware, this us Gymnastics..... From Wiki: Simone Biles Owens (born Simone Arianne Biles; March 14, 1997) is an American artistic gymnast. Her seven Olympic medals tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast and is the equal ninth-most overall. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast in the history of the Gymnastics World Championships, and is considered by many sources to be the greatest gymnast of all time. In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden.

I have read/heard repeatedly that Race only exists because of Racism. Genetically, skin color is coded similarly to hair/eye color, if I have my science correct........ soooo much wtf here. And I have been, when choices are not definitively clear by folks' attitudes, picking more women to be in charge of stuff in my life because it seems that statistically speaking far too many of us men are far too much more distracted by self-centeredness than the women ...... sigh..... I actually thrive much more as a housewife anyway <3

I'm the middle of three boys. At about 12, 10, 7, when I got bullied (glasses, book, younger-looking than my age) my brothers, both, would defend me from aggressors, then hit me for not fighting back myself. We are still close at 75, 73, 70.

His sister is truely amazing. i strongly suggest u watch this video on youtube.

I once mentioned to my son's doctor that he kept wanting to sleep in my bed more often than not. I was surprised by his response: "Well, if you could be alone in a dark room for 8 hours OR be tucked next to the person who made you feel the safest in the whole world, which would YOU choose?"

I really hate how far too many little nice gestures are blamed for 'humble-bragging'. I feel we have a really messed up society because it's perfectly acceptable to boast about material gain all day long, but doing something nice can never be talked about without someone screeching about humble bragging. This is nonsense! We need to celebrate people for the nice things they do and encourage them to do more of that and instead shame people for buying another yacht while their own emploers can't even afford a decent home!

As cute as this is, it's not a good idea to feed a bear in a place where people are. Bears return for the food and lose their fear of humans. It often ends poorly for the bear unfortunately.

Sorry, but this is simply not accurate, and has been debunked by several outlets, including Snopes. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/russian-cosmonauts-ukraine-colors/ These are simply the colors of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, where all three cosmonauts depicted went to school. You can see the emblem of the school on their arms, and can google its logo yourself to verify. These uniforms were chosen months before the Russia-Ukraine conflict — astronauts can’t make “fashion choices” like a regular person picking an outfit for the day; their uniforms are technical equipment that needs extensive coordination and production well in advance. I’m afraid this is simply a humorous coincidence.

I sing when I'm happy, too. I do have sad songs on my phone, though, and sometimes one will cycle through in shuffle mode and hit me hard (e.g., "You’re Not There" by Lukas Graham) and I'll start crying as I'm singing. If I'm at home, my older cat will run over chirping at me when I cry. It's like she's checking up on me to make sure I'm okay. It always works too, as I give her a hug and she makes me smile and stop crying :) I may have lost my father, but I still have lights of love in my life.

I step up and buy said beverage. The girl behind the till ushers me to the front of the queue and still does to this day. I felt like superman walking out of that shop. People sometimes respond to stories like this with, "What if she was just scamming you?" My answer to that is, "So what if she is? That doesn't reduce me in any way, and it certainly doesn't reduce the good deed I believed I was doing." MOST people are not scammers. And in 2023, MOST people need help. If you can help, please help. I promise you, the resulting feeling is light years better than any satisfaction you think you're getting from finding humor in the pain of other people.

As a cashier, sometimes if someone's card declined and I had the money, I would pay for it myself. I'd turn the pinpad around to face me and they'd get confused for a second until I gave them a receipt. Sometimes they remembered me.

I know where you are coming from. Depression will often leave me wanting to make my surroundings look like I want them to but without the gumption to get up an do it. When I am finally able to find that little bit of lift in the midst of the abyss, to get up and make changes, the reward of a job well done is more uplifting that medication or words ever could be.

I was just having this very conversation with my teen daughter! I've lost a number of special, close people who were dear to me in the past few years and before that, we lost my parents. I was telling her it's part of how we keep people with us, in these little things we've picked up with them. We build little pieces of ourselves with every memory we make with someone. I love that those pieces keep them with us even when the person is gone or our memories are faded.

She was right! Exercise, sunshine, and a little sugar—it helps a lot. Doesn’t fix everything, but makes a big difference. Just throwing it out there—get a full medical checkup if you can. Many physical diseases cause depression, like low thyroid or not enough vitamin D. And if you can, see about antidepressants. Depression is a complex illness and there’s a lot of ways to fight it. I'm in favor of using every weapon I've got against it.

That’s really nice. I lived in a bed sit style apartment in a rough part of Brooklyn while heavily addicted to heroin. The landlady who was a tough woman who owned the place must have noticed I was off cuz she got me out of the house one day- without making it weird- she just knew I needed it. And she let me break my lease with no questions when I told her it was time to go home to my parents and get right. Still think of her.

That's what we do... stories! All the things you do, those mishaps and oddities and achievements, will someday become YOUR stories. Laugh often. It will add color to your tales.

Can we add a beforesday too? Nexterday is right up there with other awesome kid words like broken pants (shorts), swimming cools (cuz they're cold, clearly), and every other logical marriage of descriptive words. Kid words are my favorite!

One of the things I love about Welsh is that it not only has a word for "the day before yesterday" (echdoe) and "the evening before last" (echnos), but also one for "the day after tomorrow" (trennydd)

No, I can’t. I’ve not come far in any aspect, I’ve just gotten worse and I disappointed too many people. It doesn’t feel like I’ve learnt anything in life and I’m making too many mistakes

That's okay. I'm 41 and I make tons of mistakes all the time! You don't have to feel like you have to "learn" anything at any forced pace. I'm proud of you; I've read your comments for a while now here on BP and you are a good person who makes intelligent, well-thought-out observations and comments. I read your webcomic and I think it's pretty darn hilarious. If nothing else, you have accomplished making at least one person laugh. That's important. You're important. You have plenty of time to learn, or not learn things as your life goes on. There's no rush. You've got this <3

The comments here deserve their own entry on this list. You pandas are a beautiful bunch, and should all be proud of your supportive (if not overly-censored) selves!

This made me start crying as three days ago my partner broke up with me and I'm really afraid it was because I'm traumatized and broken. This means so much

One day at a time, is the only way through. I'm sorry for your pain. 💙

Same. Both my own and other people's. It makes me feel somehow lightened, as if I'd just suddenly lost a few kilos and am unexpectedly buoyant.

Apologies can heal a lot more wounds, and a lot more thoroughly, than most people realize.
