Why are Ducks so Cute?

While this might seem like a philosophical question at first, the answer here is actually pretty simple! We, as humans, have pretty distinctive rules to tell if something or someone is cute or not. If a thing is round and soft to touch, we instinctively think of it as harmless and cute.

So, cute ducks are no exception to the rule of adorableness! They have round faces and round bodies, which render them harmless in our eyes. And let’s not forget their silky soft feathers or the plushie fluff of baby ducks.

Remember? Anything that looks soft and fluffy is instantly registered in our brains as harmless, thus cute. All in all, there’s no denying that ducks are absolutely adorable — it’s a fact.

Do Ducks Make Good Pets?

Seeing all these cute ducks and the joy they bring to their owners, anyone would be inclined to learn whether ducks make good pets. You’ll be very glad to learn that they absolutely do!

Ducks are incredibly hardy, inexpensive, and easy to care for. With good care provided, they can share their happy disposition with their owners for up to twenty years! However, as with any animal, there are things to know about their specific needs. So, if you’re hooked on the idea of getting a cute duck as your pet, remember that:

  • Ducks aren’t suited to be indoor pets. Ducks need to live outdoors as they are not suited for living indoors. That said, a pet duck can absolutely come and visit you in your home.
  • Ducks are very social animals. Keeping a duck alone or putting it in a cage for prolonged periods of time is cruel to them. Experts advise keeping at least two ducks, but the more, the better!
  • Ducks need to be fed twice a day with specifically formulated feeds. Kitchen scraps are no good for them!
  • Ducks need a swimming pond for optimal health. It might be a pond, or it might be a kiddie pool, but they do need it.
  • Ducks have incredibly good eyesight. In fact, they can see up to three times further than humans! That means they can actually be good yard guardians, but remember, they quack quite loudly, so talk to your neighbors before getting pet ducks.
  • Never get a duck or any other unusual animal just to be different. Always keep the animal’s needs in mind and study about their care before getting one. You’ll do a favor not only for the animal but also for yourself.

That said, if you can provide your cute duck plenty of outdoor space, give it duck friends for company, and nice accommodations to rest, a duck can be an excellent, loyal companion for many years.

Do Ducks Feel Happy?

Ducks are highly intelligent animals, capable of understanding commands. As such, they are able to form bonds with their caretakers. So, a simple explanation as to why ducks are so friendly is because they are smart! We’ll get to the happiness part shortly; bear with us.

Besides that, they love to play with toys, give kisses, and cuddle up to their owner. All that it takes is consistent bonding sessions and quality time spent with them. If a duckling is handled gently and frequently from an early age, they become very sociable with people and tend to like their company. So, it isn’t just okay to hold baby ducks — it’s recommended.

Remember that every cute duck has its own character and its own favorite activities. Once you figure out what tickles your pet duck’s fancy, you’ll see for yourself how expressive they are when feeling happy!

When all that is done, and you’ve formed a bond with your cute duck, it’ll feel happy. And when a duck is feeling happy, they’ll show it by softly chirping and quacking and greeting you with a bobbing head and a wagging tail — almost the same as a dog would.

What is the Cutest Name for a Duck?

If you’re firmly set on bringing funny ducks into your home and keeping them as pets, you might be wondering about two things — whether baby ducks or ducklings are as cute as their grownup counterparts and what name you should give them.

First things first — since you’d probably be getting a young cute duckling and not a grownup duck, you’ll be happy to learn that they’re absolutely adorable baby birds. Their yellow baby feathers are very soft and silky, and their waddle is just beyond adorable. No ugly duckling phase for these birdies!

Second, with something as cute as baby ducks, the pet name should be appropriately cute. Here are our top picks:

  • Aflac
  • Bill
  • Bubbles
  • Daffy
  • Daisy
  • Downy
  • Ernie
  • Mallory
  • Puddles
  • Waddles

However, if none of these match the personality of your cute duck, you can always go for a quacking pun in its name or something that reflects their unique character. But, most of all, don’t forget to have fun while naming your new best friend!

If you’re still on the fence about funny ducks being the most adorable pets, continue scrolling through these cute duck pics — they speak for themselves!
