I worked a lot in hospitals for a couple of years. These people are expected to clean up vomit and all sorts of filth, are exposed to every sort of horrible sickness, and are paid horribly. In some states - at least back in the day - they were classified as contractors and were not paid minimum wage. In a just economy, people who do the least desirable tasks would be paid the most.

PS - There was one doctor who always treated the cleaners and other people with respect. He was Baha'i, and apparently the equality of all people was central to his faith. His behavior was so different from how other doctors acted it was impossible not to notice.

Hospitals generally employ a lot of less skilled labor. All of them are essential to patient care because hospitals don't work with just doctors and nurses. It requires a team to run the facility properly. From folks taking out the trash, ringing people out in the cafeteria, answering phones, etc. Often, I've found that these lower skilled team members can have more impact on a patient stay than their direct care team.

Dunno about more impact than, say, a surgeon who saves your life, but a huge role to play, yes. I once thanked a cleaner when I was in hospital and she emotionally thanked ME for thanking her! In the whole morning, nobody else had said thank you to her.

Because of my position as a hospital volunteer, I made sure I was always presentable. Easy-peasy, getting designer clothes at my local thrift store. But when it was time to rejuvenate my wardrobe, I'd bring these beautiful clothes to the local shelter where they were put to good use for job interviews and the new jobs.
Having a low mood is tricky to pin down because it can look and feel different for everyone. For some, it's that sense of being drained, or just feeling "blah" without a clear reason.

Trucker attempting to maneuver a turn onto the street where I live was having a heck of a time due to some jerk's parking. Two local guys noticed and start giving him assistance, but the rest of us - kids, parents, and elderly - watched this unfold. When the trucker finally managed the turn, we clapped and whooped, and to the delight of all the kids he pulled the horn cable all the way down the block.

Our hotel in Dublin had a random duckie. Staff must have heard my friend and me (both in our early 40s) squabbling over it because the next day there was a second duckie. lol
Negative emotions can also cloud our judgment, stopping us from thinking and acting rationally. They distort our perception, making situations seem worse than they really are. When this happens, we tend to focus only on what fits our negative mood, remembering the bad and ignoring the good.

Our zoo just lost our elephants. The youngest is part of a breeding program and was sent to be with the male. So as not to separate the herd, the whole group left with her. Iwas sad when I heard no more elephant for us, but not for the reasons.

All 3 of my cats are feral born rescues. 2 calicoes and 1 Bombay. Years apart though. Bombay (Cleveland) is 16, Calico #1 (Miss Punx) is 9 and Calico #2 (Roxette / Miss Rox) is 4. I also have a 3 year old feral stray that hangs around my house. It too me about a year and a half to get her to let me pet and hold her. I've been feeding her and also built her a heated shelter last winter. I wish she's come in but hey, at least she's dewormed and no fleas. Can't catch her long enough to get to a vet for spaying and rabies. :(

I usually cut my hair because it's usually a spontaneous decision otherwise, I go to an academy to give the students training and save money. One time the student did something very, very similar to me. She freaked, but we ended up putting ours together and going New Wave.

This is a thing with rabbits. Our house rabbit was super angry at any flooring we put in her area, destroying it usually while making eye contact. Through trial and error, we figured out she wanted navy blue cotton throw rugs. She stopped shredding her flooring and still uses her navy rugs.

It's been raining a ton so I've not been outside with our dog much; we actually live in a rural area so he has 30 acres (~12 Hectares) to run around so walks aren't necessary. Today, I took my dog to the garbage center thinking it would relieve some of his boredom; he's been sad since our older dog crossed the rainbow bridge 3 months ago. We got home and he refused to get out of the car. After an hour, I drove him to my sister's to pick up her dog so they could play. I may have started something that will be hard to stop. Dogs do have best friends.

Ohhh! My heart just burst! I rarely leave my house so my cat is not used to me being gone. Except for hospital visits. They happen a lot I guess. Hard to say but anyway... My baby(in the pic) goes nuts when she hears me on the phone. It's so cute and she's gotten excited enough to accidentally hang up on my moms end. She is my cutest lil friend!

I had an MRI (my 1st; and last, I hope) in March, and I never knew that there were so many metallic things that could be implanted. The list went on for pages. Spookiest thing I ever did.

I had my second one a few years ago. I was terrified for the first one, it was for a reoccurring sinus problem, because I am a little claustrophobic. Next was for my foot that already has pins in it. But I was ready with my no metal clothing and hair tie and chose classical music. I fell asleep. But yes, I would still prefer not to have one again.

Most snakes, even the venomous ones, are not really dangerous. They'll generally avoid people if they can. Except rattlesnakes, those are just plain mean b@stards. especially if you've been sticking tin foil to them.

I just read of an elder in Thailand who was stuck in her house unable to move cuz a boa was around her. I'll pass in general while admiring their beauty. Most are just gorgeous to look at. From a biiig distance.
