Trends are everywhere. They influence people’s fashion choices, their decisions regarding home decor or hairstyles, and can even determine what video games or TikTok dances, among other things, are popular at a given time.

In addition to being seemingly omnipresent, they are also everchanging. As times change, so do trends; and it’s no secret that once you reach a certain age, it can be difficult to keep up with the current ones. Some of them might even seem bizarre or strange.

Seeking to learn what trends people consider to be the strangest ones of the past decade, redditor ‘PaceSubstantial1107’ turned to the ‘Ask Reddit’ community and started a discussion on the topic. Quite a few netizens shared their opinions, covering all sorts of odd or even disappointing trends, so if you’re curious about what they had to say, scroll down to find their answers on the list below.

Young woman wearing a winter hat and scarf, smiling while using her phone outdoors at night, illustrating strange trends. People forgetting how to talk into a mobile phone. Instead of holding it so the mic is by your mouth and the speaker by your ear, now people hold it flat and shout at the bottom while wondering why they can't hear the other person properly. I don't care if this makes me sound old, it just makes zero sense.

I am sooo sick of shouting into my phone “Owen, hold the phone close to your face! Your mouth needs to be close to the bottom of the phone!” over and over until I get angry and hang up. People will talk into their phones while walking around and as they do, the phone moves farther and farther from their mouths. Cripes; people seem to have forgotten how to use TELEPHONES, for fυck’s sake! Oh, and secondary to this: Mute the TV or music before calling me! I’m sooo sick of picking up the phone and hearing “Hands on your head, dirt bag!” or “Erectile disjunction will be a thing of the past!” The reason you can’t hear me is because you’re not holding the phone close to your face and there’s background noise! If you can’t use a phone properly, for the love of dog, DON’T CALL ME!

I dunno; every night before bed, I watch a half-dozen or so reaction vids from a dermatologist who finds the *best* blackhead/boil/carbuncle/cyst/etc being squeezed. I love ‘em! They’re sooo satisfying. (And horrifying! How do you let a tiny blackhead turn into something the diameter of a quarter and sticking out an inch?! Why doesnt a loved one point it out before it turns into something sooo appalling that people watch videos of it being lanced and squeezed? If a tablespoon of really disgusting pus, blood, dеad skin, and two years’ worth of sebum comes out, it makes me wonder what you’re hiding on the rest of your body, and I imagine the smell of your genitals scares dogs away!) Just last week, I watched the color of the pus from a cyst change from yellow to green to NAVY BLUE to sky blue to petal pink to scarlet. WTF kinda germs make NAVY BLUE guck?! If you’re manufacturing previously-unseen pus colors behind your ear, kindly GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME. I don’t wanna catch it!

And not reading. 😳 As soon as someone tells me he/she doesn’t read, I think “I wouldn’t brag about that” and then simply walk away without a word. I don’t even wanna argue or try to reason with someone who’s proud of not reading. They’re a waste of the earth’s resources.

Maybe I was just blissfully unaware, but it seems like most bigots of all types used to keep their hate internal or anonymous. Or at least, after the late 70s early 80s. But now days, even politicians will take to the "big stage" and spout off their hate as if it was perfectly normal.
