Fruit Of The Hala Aka Puhala Tree
the meteor that killed the dinosour try it will make the same affect when its Hits about 1999,999,9999,999% light speed
Nobody eats these because they'll make your mouth burn if not ripe enough and they are very fibrous..... It's famine food.
Yes but no one ever does because if not ripe enough will burn mouth
Load More Replies...Horned Melon
They taste a bit like a juicy cucumber, but there's so many damn seeds there's really not much to actually eat.
We eat and grow this. Lots of ways to eat it. My favorite is to juice it and add a tad of sugar.
Romanesco Broccoli
Rambutan
You can find it at some countries in Southeast Asia.. like Indonesia and Malaysia.. It's taste sweet and fresh..
Oh hey! I just draw one of those: https://megan-foldenauer.squarespace.com/availabledates/2014/10/13/reserved
I tried is before it tasted rich and creamy and sweet at the same time buy it in 99 ranch market los angeles
Mangosteen
we tried it before you can just take the juice out and put it in a perfume bottle and done ( don,t forget to wash the perfume bottle)
My ALL time favorite fruit - manggis. The most delicate and delicious fruit in the world. Unfortunately, it's not possible to know by the outside skin if the fruit will be good. The edible white fruit is inside the purple skin, but be careful, if there's yelllowish -greenish on the white bit, it's no good.
Also an Asian fruit. Also known for its medicinal benefits in the Philippines!
we call it "granada" here in philippines.....weird name ryt? hahaha
Ackee
I heard about this fruit, they say that unripped ackee contain deadly poison. Is it true?
Its true.... some even call this fruit mickey mouse plant
Load More Replies...Exactly what do you eat on this? It looks like a pepper with a few banana slices topped with black olives.
Akebi
This Akebi can be found in local areas in Japan growing wild. It's supposed to be very tasty when eaten at the right moment. You eat the pulp inside, not the outer purple skin.
Pitaya
Also known as dragonfruit. Really yummy, not always white inside though as some are pink!?
I really do not like this, though. You can find it really often in super markets in south east Asia. It's tasteless to me.
Me too. I really prefer the version that's in drinks instead of the fresh fruit, and that's rare for me to say.

Jackfruit
This is very regular in south India. I cant tell you the delicious dishes we can cook with this. The tender jackfruit peels (inside part) is used in curries with ground mustard. The ripened jackfruit's yellow part is so sweet and its seeds OMG my favourite. You can even boil the seeds and make delicious side dish or a simple salad with peeled and boiled seeds with salt
i love this especially its smell when it is about to be ripe. if its meat is ripe and yellow, it sweet and juicy. Filipinos also cook this when unripe, usually cooked with coconut milk. its seeds were boiled and can be eaten like chestnuts
I've seen these at H-Mart but I didn't want to buy 20 pounds of fruit just to try it. These things make watermelons look small.
This fruit can also be used as a savory dish if not ripe. And the seeds can be eaten as well if tenderized in a boiling water the texture will be like canned chestnuts.
Salak
I think I will have to meet Indonesia and taste all these fruits! =D
Load More Replies...I've seen this fruit in Indonesia during our visit haven't try them yet
I do. I have found Magi's comments very informative, seeing as I have seen almost none o these fruits at all.
Load More Replies...Carambola
Star fruit! It doesn't really have a strong taste, but it's juicy and crispy
It isn't hat strange, in my school they serve carambola juice just as frequently as chicha, or lemonade, my grandma sometimes buys it at the store too, haven' seen a place where it isn't sold, same with the Pitaya (dragon fruit). I don't know I guess in other countries it isn't as common, I'm from Perú.
Buddha's Hand
I have a tree of this! It's very nice citron peel without bitter pith
wonder what it taste like..........................................................
Purple Sweet Potato
you can have these raw or can boil and have.. Its sweet in taste..
I love the orange one sweet and good, I will now look out for the purple ones
In southeast China McDonald's, instead of apple pies you can have taro lies! Purple and sweet and good.
Black Sapote (chocolate Pudding Fruit)
I've tried in many times. It's not exactly like chocolate but it is very good!
Load More Replies...Would of been helpful if they gave us a little background and described the taste instead of leaving you hanging!
It doesn't taste like chocolate but it has a wonderful, pudding like texture. Scoop it out of the skin and add some orange juice and a pinch of sugar to it. Heavenly! It's also very nutricious and aids digestion.
Durian
One of the most delicious fruits in the world. Some people don't like it because of its strong smell.
Most cities near where Durians can be found have banned the fruit in public places.
Load More Replies...Smells like hell, tastes like heaven. good to eat with a cola drink!
the smell is horrible until you have eaten a few, it tastes like custard.
Anaar
Oh. Thanks William. I couldn’t find it’s name in English.
Load More Replies...anaar means pomogrante in india, im indian but i dootn like this fruit
Why is this a "weird" or "unusual" fruit? I thing only food you've known and liked in your life is banana.
A pain to get the fruit out but incredible juicy sweet with the red flavor. Hard to get the seeds out if you don't know how. The downside is if you eat any of the membrane holding the seeds, it's incredibly bitter. Like the rind of a Grapefruit.
Jaboticaba
These are wonderfully weird, sorta like tart grapes with a thicker skin. Very common in Brazil.
Also in some parts of India. Violet color fruit found in forests. Sweet taste.
Im Brazillian and they are definetly not common, but i got 2 packs of them recently, and they are sweet like sugar, some of the best fruits ever!
Lichi
I have had these when I lived in Hawaii. You can also buy them canned. I like the fresh ones better.
Load More Replies...My favorite- especially when fresh in season. I find them at Trader Joe's!
Achiote
Achiote is used as a spice in Mexico. We use it to make a delicious dish called "cochinita pipil". It's made with pork and a sauce is made with the achiote.
Yes! I can never find this fresh in fact, I've never seen it at all except dried and powdered!
Load More Replies...Colors and flavors food, from rice, to pork dishes, Pancit, etc. Gives such a tasty, unique flavor. Known locally, in Guam, as "achote".
Langsat
this is langsat. duku looks the same but got thicker skin. longan is like lychee, just smaller with brown skin, and black pit
This is not "langsat", this is "duku". Both look similar, but duku is sweeter.
This is langsat.. Duku will have a thicker skin, though it does look similar..
Load More Replies...Aguaje
Cupuaçu
Markut Lime
You use the leaves(crushed) and the zest. It goes best in creamy sauces for your fish and seafood but it can also flavor your meats.
Cherimoya Aka Ice Cream Fruit
david attenboroug ate it in a documentary. ive had it to. Its flavour is creamy and it is soft.
creamy isn't a flavor, it's a texture. What's the flavor?
Load More Replies...Looks very similar to apple custard fruit - but this one is called 'Anonas' (sugar apple) in the Philippines. Belongs to the same family as Soursop/Guyabano - there are over 160 species.
Its making me dizzy.. im really confused which is which... ill just call it "atis" in the philippines
Load More Replies...I Have No Idea What It Is.
It's Pare/Peria (momordica charantina). You can find it at Indonesia or Malaysia. This white one is Peria gajih, also from India or Africa
It's a Vegetable known in Bangladesh as "Korolla"
Load More Replies...in Indonesia its called Pare, usually green, taste very bitter, we need to cook it first and eat with rice
Custard Apple
Its skin is look not adorable but taste is good. I plant it at my home, always have warm problem.
It is sugar apple not custard apple.#24 is custard apple. Just search google
Hawaiin Papaya
I only like papaya dried. Can't seem to stomach the underlying green flavor when it's fresh.
Any place on brazil has that fruit lmao (i don't recommend trying it cuz it's bad)
wow we have these in our backyard in the Philippines, so easy to grow
Sapota (chikoo)
yes but i,m from china and is fruit grows in africa i can,t speak the lauguge
In Mexico it is known as chicozapote. It grows in Oaxaca. Very flushy and super sweet. Terribly sweet!!
Physalis
Goldenberry/ gooseberry. In the nightshade family, cousin of sorts to the tomatillo, hence the similar husk and sticky skin :)
Load More Replies...I'm not a fan of these. They taste like a tomato with an attitude problem.
It’s called Ho-zuki in Japan. Apparently it’s common name in English is Strawberry Tomato or Winter cherry.
Guava(bangkok)
I have this in my backyard. More sweeter if ripe. Native bayabas is what we call here in our hometown in Philippines.
Guava fruits are so good trust me, if you have time to eat one deffinetlly take the time to do so
better if this was made as a jam. our project in elementary in the Philippines.
In the Philippines we call this Bayabas. It is loaded with Vitamin C. One of the most nutritious fruits.
Kumquat
In ohio it is fuzzy and has one large seed in the middle. In ohio it does not look like a long orange.it also is very bitter and the skin tastes pretty good. Also has anyone ate the skin of a kiwi?
Oh I've had these before they taste like sweet and sour grapes with almost a crunchy filling
Chinese Long Beans
It's a vegetable, not fruit. This articles includes fruits and vegetables. It's called 20+ of the weirdest fruits and vegetables
In the kitchen you may not call it a "fruit" but to a botanist it is indeed a fruit.

Ugli Fruit
Ah, this is not 'ugli fruit', it's some type of orange that we eat in Indonesia.
These aren't weird at all those are oranges before companies chemically peel the green off
Beautiful oranges are a industrial product, the packed juice that you drink come from oranges very like these.
Samphire
In French it is known as salicorn. Very good fresh raw or cooked, or pickled. Grows wild by the sea shore, salty soil.
Anaar
This one is called Granada in the Philippines. Our version of the pomegranate!
Purple Carrots
Delicious. I like the flavor much better than the too sweet orange carrot. It's more like parsnips.
the original type of carrot. The orange one is a Gmo and its seeds spread.
Almost all plants eaten now are GMOs that have been created through selective breeding over decades. Selective breeding has been done to plants and animals since humans first domesticated animals and began cultivating crops.
Load More Replies...Kepel (stelechocarpus Burahol)
Kepel is a very rare and endangered tree from Central Java, Indonesia. The fruit grows on the lower trunk and has a sweet mango-like taste.
The Javanese believes that eating the fruit would cause body secretions to take on a perfume scent.
Jicama
We Indonesian called these bengkuang, it has crispy sweet watery taste
Gac
Aboujahl Watermelon
