What’s the best way to soak up knowledge? Some may argue that this requires spending your days in the library, reading countless books on a wide range of topics. Others might say that it’s best to get out and see the world. Traveling and talking to interesting people will widen your horizons more than a book ever could.
But most of us don’t have the time or resources to choose either of those paths. So the easiest way to acquire more knowledge might just be learning fun facts! That's why we took a trip to Weird Facts on Instagram and gathered some of their most fascinating posts below. Enjoy scrolling through this list full of unexpected information, and be sure to upvote the posts that teach you something new!

The story is actually written from Sam's perspective. He is definitely the main character in it, despite the first impression. He certainly is the most heroic, even being able to resist the pull of the Ring, which even Frodo can't. A true hero, without whom the plot would have failed several times.
I love that we see what the ring tempted him with and it was all about being a great gardener
They are all heroic in their own way but Sam is definitely the "chief hero" 🩷
I recognized this the first time I read the book, when I was 10. 60 years a go.
I have a respect for elephants. They are much more intelligent and empathic that most people believe.
Multa Nocte, yes that is a real hero and the true definition of the word.
Load More Replies...I had to check up, but the 75 feet refers to the drop to the water line. At first I thought it just meant that the hole was 75 feet deep.
I just wanna know what kindergarten class is hanging around by mine shafts
Very brave. But why was a class of 3 year old kiddos in that kind of place?
This story was published before and I asked exactly the same question. Apparently they were in the forest and nobody knew there was a hole there. I can't remember if there was a mine, or some kind of underground b**b shelter from WWII. The teacher had been there several times and the place had been perfectly safe until the hole appeared.
Load More Replies...Why did it take 2 hours? Surely safety equipment should be available?
Even if a rescue team got there quickly, it's going to take some considerable time to set up a 75ft rappel.
Load More Replies...One of the biggest complaints I remember my classmates making in school was that we were always forced to memorize endless facts. Rather than getting hands-on lessons with real-world applications, we were expected to remember dates, names and places without enough context to understand their significance. To this day, I can tell you that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. But can I explain what that actually means? Absolutely not.
Nowadays, however, it’s easy for adults to go months without learning anything new. Sure, you’ll read what’s going on in the news. But you might not be learning any new skills or information that’s actually useful. In this case, fun facts can be a wonderful way to get some new knowledge into your routine. They’re digestible, don’t take much time, and they can be used as wonderful conversation starters!

If I remember correctly he has more flirting with Moneypenny in at least one of the later ones, which was way better because they're the same age
This is a funny coincidence because I was actually watching his last Bond movie yesterday and noticed the same thing! I just happened to flip channels and find it on. A View to a K!ll is the movie. It also stars Christopher Walken as the villain with bleached blond hair. 😂
He could have demanded female co-stars his own age. Plenty of them talented and available.

Load More Replies...Learning facts may not be as engaging as learning a new skill, such as how to play an instrument or how to speak another language. But it still has benefits! According to Kaplan, we must remember that knowledge really is power. The more you know, the better your problem solving and reasoning skills will become.
Knowledge is also cumulative. So once you get that snowball of learning rolling, it’ll become even easier to pick up more information. Plus, when you have more context for the information you learn, you’ll be able to make connections more easily. For example, if you know what was going on in one part of the world during the 1850s, finding out what was happening in another country might make even more sense.
Finnish cuisine is not the best, tbh. For most of the history Finns have had to eat what they can get or starve so it's not fancy and it's not always healthy. Of course there are exceptions to that.
I had the best pizza in Finland. Chicken, blue cheese and wait for it - pineapple chutney.
Well, as far as I know, Poland does have universal healthcare.
Load More Replies...Why? Poland has national health care. Even covered in the eu if the operation can’t be in poland.
That is because the surgery had to be done in the USA. USA continues to deliver far more medical breakthroughs than any other country in the world and it's disproportionate high health care costs (especially in R&D) essentially subsidizes health care innovation and costs around the world. Also - Even if Polish or EU surgeons could have performed this surgery, EU healthcare would not have paid for it anyway since most countries that offer universal health care restrict experimental or unproven procedures (and sometimes even restrict extremely expensive d***s or procedures on old patients if they deem that the procedure would not significantly improve quality or time of life).

Absolutely ridiculous that it isn't just from when you buy the property. You have to wait a generation before you're entitled to keep access to the sky?
It dates from when the property was built and so applies to the vast majority of UK homes. It stems from easement right laws, which work on the assumption that if something has been done openly for 20 years and no-one objected, it’s probably reasonable and should be legally protected.
Load More Replies...Not as cut and dry as that unfortunately. It is a right to a minimum level of light and not necessarily direct sunlight. Ie if you have direct sunlight into your kitchen or garden from 9am to 6pm there is nothing stopping a development being built that reduces that to one or two hours a day. As long as your home is not in complete shadow all day every day unfortunately you just have to suck it up
Acquiring more knowledge is also a great way to keep your brain active. Americans currently spend an average of five hours and 16 minutes on their phones every single day. And unfortunately, most of that time probably isn’t spent learning new skills and improving cognitive function. So it’s great to break the routine and make an effort to spend some time each day learning fun facts. This information will actually make you think, and it’s a much better way to spend your time than scrolling through brain rot content.
It was a good thing for him to have done, but it doesn't negate the spousal a b use he inflicted on Rita over the years, just like John Lennon, he was a very flawed, if talented, man.
I think Mr. Rogers would be horrified and disgusting at what America has become.
I wish we had something like this here in the UK. I suppose the closest person was Tony Hart.
You’re never too old to learn something new. In fact, it’s best if you continue learning something new every single day, even when you’re old and gray! So if you need some tips on how to be a lifelong learner, Vox has got you covered. First, they recommend constantly going out of your way to challenge yourself. Obviously, this won’t be easy. But when you put yourself in new situations, you’re forced to learn new things, often rather quickly.
I had a crush on Beethoven when I was a little girl and this anecdote used to bring tears to my eyes
Several classical composers died during or shortly after their ninth symphony, including Beethoven. This led to the belief by some of the curse of the ninth, and that a composer's ninth symphony would be their last. Inside number 9 (British anthology TV show) had an episode based on the superstition..
Look at the original piano of Beethoven. It was literally hammered. He hit it as hard as possible to hear something.
That's because Beethoven was metal before metal even existed. :)

As it should be. In many ways the ancients were more advanced than us. This was particularly true before the dominance of Abrahamic religions
You do realize that when they say men, they specifically mean men who weren't slaves. Slaves, on the other hand, far from being able to take time off from work, were made to work by being literally being whipped until they died from working. So maybe we shouldn't look to ancient Egypt for worker's rights.

I can bleed through a pad in less than an hour. Yup there have been many embarrassing instances where I soaked through at work and had a big patch of blood on my pants. I've resorted to keeping spare pants in my cubby or truck. We should at least be allowed a couple days dang it 🫠
Then ask yourself how you can improve your behavior and actions.

I shall howl louder than you on a G flat note to drown out your foul THEFT of C sharp!" and then a wolf like me is off to the side thinking "Okay, if I howl on an F sharp, it's going to clash horribly with Uncle Max AND Cousin Flouncy, so I'll do that..." XD
Amen to that. Was just playing some Alice in Chains yesterday.
Load More Replies...Another tip Vox shared is capitalizing on the skills you already have. You don’t have to start from scratch just to prove to yourself that you can. If you already know how to play one instrument, it might be easier to pick up another than learning a foreign language from square one. In the same vein, if you grew up playing tennis, it might be easier to learn how to play padel than basketball. You’ll still be learning something new, but you might find the experience more enjoyable than starting at 0.
I have always thought that if any politician is caught lying, stealing or cheating in any way, they should be prevented from standing. I mean, we do the same for lawyers, so why not politicians?
We absolutely should...but who would run the country?
Load More Replies...The Athenian democratic process of Ostracism could be used on any citizen of the city state, for up to 10 years. It was a two stage process, open to any citizen, had external oversight so tyrants couldn't aㅤbuse it (yet it was aㅤbused), required specific quorum to succeed (most sources state 6000), and had a penalty if they broke exile. None of the exiled one's possessions were taken away, they didn't lose their status or position, there is no stigma on return. It was mostly used by politicians to prevent rivalry to their seat of power, so was quite susceptible to propagandisation and corruption.
Pretty sure that's existed as long as secrets have existed

If you are interested in learning a new skill but aren’t sure where to start, One Education has some suggestions. If you’ve been putting off getting your driver’s license for years, it might be time to finally get behind the wheel. And if you have a yard that could use some work, why not take up gardening? If you’re looking to become more physically active, you might want to learn a new sport. And if you want to spend less on takeout, it’s the perfect time to hone your culinary skills.
When intoxicated, Australians make loud drunken noises which many birds find bothersome as well.
They are very easy to hand tame, to the point where they can become nuisance.
So they're like people. Get drunk and make loud drunken noises which many people fine bothersome.
I've also heard of elephants getting drunk eating fermented fruit. Think I'd rather have a drunk parrot running around the neighbourhood .
Having gone through this annually, people aren’t ‘sent,’ but rather, given the opportunity to attend these for free.
If you're the sort that gets fat in the middle you're much more at risk for all kinds of illnesses. The scientists have actually suggested that a better number to monitor a person's health than the deeply flawed BMI is the roundness index (BRI) which compares persons height to their waist.
That totally makes sense, it's as important as cholesterol level for example. Abdominal fat increases cardiovascular risk.
The US Air Force (probably the other branches too) has a waist measurement as part of their fitness testing. If I recall correctly, acceptable waist measurement varies with age. If one does not pass, they have a certain amount of time to show progress towards the standard. If one does not show progress, they may be forced out of the service.

Load More Replies...Not every case of chimerism in humans (or animals) results from an absorbed twin. Mosaicism is actually far more common in human chimerism than the form that arises from absorption of a zygote. It's likely Lydia Fairchild (the woman referenced in this post) has mosaicism, since the DNA from her skin and hair did not match the DNA of her children, but the DNA from her cervical smear did. This points to somatic mutation, not allogenic fusion.

This actually makes a lot of sense, as if other animals were venomous or poisonous other animals would have formed defenses, maybe stuff that makes them NOT get poisoned, or just venom of their own, thus all of the dangerous stuff is concentrated in one area. Animals tend not to develop defenses if they don't especially need it.

Please don't downvote, but I personally disliked Fight Club immensely. Just didn't do it for me.
I saw it shortly after it came out - I was like 19 or 20 when I saw it. I was so, SO confused by it. XD My friends were all "YEEEAHHH SO AWEEEESOME" and I was sitting there going "but wait, what?" It reverberated around the globe 7 times during 5 days, which means it was detected on sismographs all around the world multiple times. The eruption caused tens of thousands of casualties. Edit: I made a mistake in my description. Even though seismographs existed yet, the thing that was measured all over the world was the atmospheric pressure that increased dramatically, then dropped.
From what I remember, what made the explosion so powerful was the fact that water surrounding the island had leaked into the caldera after a smaller initial explosion which created steam that built up under great pressure which when it finally burst created a powerful shockwave
