Vet Shares The Most Ridiculous Pet Names He’s Heard After Years In The Business: “Patricia? This Is Not Okay”
Most vets probably expect to call out names like Max, Bella, Charlie, or Luna when they enter a waiting room. But Dr. Amir Anwary has heard quite a different list during his years working with animals.
On September 5, the South African veterinarian shared some of the strangest cat and dog names he has encountered, with many leaving viewers laughing.
- A South African veterinarian shared some of the funniest and most unusual pet names he has encountered at his clinic.
- Names like Chairman Meow, Queen Esmeralda Von Biscuit, Princess Potato, and Sir Reginald Wigglebottom II left viewers entertained.
- Pet owners joined the fun by revealing their own creative names, including Ozzy Pawsborne.
“I love when pets have human names like ‘Todd’, ‘Steve ’, even ‘Patricia’,” wrote one viewer.
A South African veterinarian shared some truly unusual pet names at his clinic
Dr. Anwary often shares animal-related videos across his social media. This time, instead of offering pet care advice, he recreated the experience of calling some of his patients into the clinic.
His cat-name video began with one particularly memorable choice.
“We’re ready for our next patient, can we please get Chairman Meow?”
Anwary admitted that he actually liked the name. He also called Kitty Purry one of his favorites.
Then came Wasabi. The vet said he initially hated the name but eventually grew to love it.
Another cat had the very grand name Queen Esmeralda Von Biscuit. However, there was just one problem.
According to Anwary, she “didn’t behave like a queen.”
But not every unusual name impressed him.
Some of his least favorites were ordinary human names.
“Brenda. Who names a cat Brenda? That’s a middle-aged white woman,” he joked.
Then he came across Patricia. His reaction was even stronger.
“Okay, do you hate your cat? Patricia. This is not okay,” he said. “OMG, why would you do that to your cat?”
Dr. Anwary also shared some of the funniest dog names, including Princess Potato
@amirthevet The last name omg why would you do that to your cat !! 🤣🤣🤣 #cat♬ original sound – Amir the vet
The dog list names included Chewbarka, Sir Reginald Wigglebottom II, Princess Potato, and Nugget.
“Some people are just so creative with their pet names,” Anwary said.
Viewers also quickly joined in by sharing names from their own pets.
“I work with someone who has a blind cat named Billy Eyeless,” wrote one user, while another added, “I had a pit named Frankie Sticky Paws.”
A third said, “Mine is called Theodore Woobles Bear.”
Another wrote, “My German Shepherd is named Tater Tot,” and one introduced their French bulldog, saying, “Meet my Kevin.”
Others shared names including Freddie Purcury, Lucy Furr, Kimchi, Bok Choy, Dolly Purrton, David Dingleberry Jones, and Miss Menace.
Even netizens admitted that plenty of people actually love giving pets regular human names.
“I love when pets have human names like ‘Todd’, ‘Steve ’, even ‘Patricia’,” one person wrote, while another said, “Listen, my Walter loves his human name.”
This wasn’t the first time Dr. Anwary shared his strange pet name list
In 2025, Dr. Anwary shared a collection of the “weirdest and best pet names” he had heard during his six years as a veterinarian.
One of the first names he called out was Paw McCartney.
“Okay, we’re ready for our next patient. Can we get Paw McCartney? That’s good. That’s good. Okay, next we have Princess Fluffer-Nutter the Third.”
“Fart Face,” came next.
Dr. Anwary also called for “Sir Sniffalot of the house Humpington.”
The video attracted more than 130,000 views, leading him to make a sequel.
That time, he introduced viewers to Brad Pitbull and Countess Lady Duchess Baroness McFlufferton von Tail Wagger.
Other names included Chicken Nugget, Bong Water, Taylor Sniff, and Bark Wahlberg.
The follow-up video also passed 150,000 views.
Even a veterinary assistant chimed in, with one writing, “I’m a vet assistant and at the clinic I work at, we have a patient that is LITERALLY named Ozzy Pawsborne the Prince of Barkness.”
Another said, “I once heard someone named their tortoise lord voldetort.”
Someone else had a cat called Dobby Dumblepaws, while another person had two dachshunds named Denice and Denephew.
One owner revealed a hamster had the rather elaborate name, saying, “Hellman’s Roasted Garlic Mayonnaise.”
Other pets were called Pugzilla, Puggleston, Asparagus and Bacon.
One person had gone in a completely different direction and named their dogs after Arthurian legends, including “Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere and Morgaine.”
Dr. Anwary isn’t the only veterinarian who has turned awkward pet names into comedy
In 2022, Illinois emergency veterinarian Dr. Frank Bozelka shared a similar experience.
He joked about the strange names he sometimes had to announce in a busy animal hospital waiting room.
His list included Sergeant Sniffers and Sir Francis Duke of Meowington.
When Bozelka asked for Sir Francis Duke of Meowington, the owner reportedly replied, “We just call him ‘Sir.’”
He also called out names such as Spicy Mexican Hot Sauce, Paw McCartney, Boogers and Tiddy, before the owner corrected him that the name was actually spelled differently.

Another clip featured LuciPurr, Lover Boy, Gooch Master and Eggplant Emoji.
Bozelka recalled that the unusual emoji name came from a woman who explained that her son had chosen it as a pop-culture reference.
His response was, “Just be happy you don’t understand that one, ma’am.”
The videos went viral, with one reportedly receiving more than 8.3 million views.
Bozelka later added more names submitted by viewers, including Bark Ruffalo, Pico de Gato, Ozzy Pawsborne the Prince of Barkness, Macaroni Sledgehammer, and Neil Catrick Harris.
He finished one list with another dramatic call, “Where’s Bark Vader, Dark Lord of the Sniff?”
“My daughter dog is “Beowulf,” wrote one netizen

Are we all just going to keep ignoring the fact that this vet is SUPER HOT!!?!???
I currently have a Snafu and a Fubar (both cats) at my house. Their names either produce delighted laughter or complete confusion. There is no middle.
I've known cats called Colin and Keith. However, the funniest has to be my great-grandma's cat who was a tomcat called Mary. :D
There is an excellent Australian Comedy Show, it's named Colin from Accounts. That's the dog's name and it suits him.
Load More Replies...My brother's Boston terrier was called Smeagol. I had a cat called Lady Bogadilla de Boggs (she liked to drink from the toilet). My friend had a huge floofy orange cat with a mane, she called him Vincent (it was the 80s)
We started with Mitzi Katz, then Karl Katz, then King Mordecai , Morty to his friends, he was in the fish business. Now we have Sylvia. All our cats are Jewish. Even though we are Episcopalian, we celebrate Hanukkah for them, we light the candles, say the prayers, and since they can't spin the dreidel, (they don't have thumbs) we spin the cats, with nip. Morty Loved Hanukkah. image in hidden comment
My mother's budgie was called Paxo, after the stuffing brand commonly served with Christmas turkey.
Load More Replies...My late kitten was Whisky because she was the color of a fine single malt. Unrelated, but she was also the sweetest little girl that ever was.
Load More Replies...Catrick Swayze, Mister Snuffleupagus, Beast, Baby Beast (BB for short, ended up being renamed to Butter Bean because he was a big cat who became round), Axle (rescued from the axle assembly of a Toyota Carolla), Nubbers (Nub Tail), Mistress Sassafras (Sassy, changed from her original name Hissy), Ripley (in honor of Sigourney Weaver because he looked like an alien when he was a kitten), Rollie Pollie Ollie (Ollie for short, named by my son in honor of his favorite TV show as a youngster). Our youngest is Ghost Pepper, currently considering being renamed to PeePee Cat due to a very recent unfortunate decision to jump on the toilet seat at the very wrong time.
I love these! Our dog is Bouddica, the wild Celtic queen who torched London. 'Bo' often lives up to her name -- though she hasn't burned anything yet. (No opposable thumbs, after all.) But she probably wishes she could. (She's a tawny reddish color too -- just like her royal namesake's long hair.) Her cousin is just plain Tiger. I love all the ways we amuse ourselves with these silly names.
My soft can-opener calls me "Bouchity Boo And Tyler Too". Of course I don't answer to such an insult. She calls my brother "Naughty Audi", which is quite correct.
my cats name is embroglio. which is an alternate spelling to imbroglio. which is like a crazy embarrassing situation which he is the master of.
A friend of mine had one of those shih tzu dogs named "Dust Mop". Everyone called the dog "Dusty". Dusty got his name when the first day my friend took the dog to visit his parents, the dog ran under the couch (hardwood floor) and came out with several dust bunnies on it.
Mine are Orange and Void, yes they are the colours you think they are. Does make vets and vet techs giggle. Though given these names, if I get another cat I now think I need to name him after the protagonist of the MediEvil game series: Sir Daniel Wigginbottom Fortesque IV.
One of my sister's cats is Mr. Bobbie Silly Buttons. She had a Mr. Goordie Silly Buttons and a Sir Louie Buttons. Another cat is Max Buttons. All males. She calls them the Button Brothers! 😆
When I was a kid, my first cat was named Kazarothien James-Joseph Skandranon Rashkae Sheean III. There had been no I or II, he was just.. somehow the III. XD I called him "Kaz". But the pet of mine who gave vet staff the most trouble was my old gray cat Wintressia - they always had a hard time pronouncing her name (win-tress-ee-uh) so I eventually said "just call her Win" XD My current horde of pets don't really have "clever" names, but they reflect my nerdy interests: Kohl, Stilgar, Fenring, Preacher, Riker, Rook, Lucanis, Joseph, and Spicy!
Mine had proper human names like Kenneth, but usually ended up being called "who's mummy's big fat wobblebelly boy?" instead.
Load More Replies...Mine have always had human names (George I, George II, Donald, Kenneth, Henry and Mia) The youngest was named by the kids-in the olden days, kings were known by names Richard the Lionheart or Edward the Confessor, so the little one is Sardine the Brave (she had major surgery at 8 weeks of age) We live in a semi-rural area, so the cats are allowed outside, and I decided to give them names that I wouldn't be too embarrassed shouting out loud for the neighbours to here.
I had a calico cat named "CyndiLyn," A dog named "Nanci," and my current dog is named "Sandy/" I also have a friend who has a horse named "Steve!"
I named my own cats after favorite beers, Ziegenbock, Shiner, Guinness and New Castle. Yes, four cats. Just how am I still single?? A friend named hers Jaeger and Meister.
I have a cat named Squishy. That's what my niece called her when the cat was a month old. All the other cats have names that end in Y. Not very intertaining.
Years ago a friend had a Basset Hound name of Petunia. Often called Tunia, she answered to both, she was a lovely dog.
