I am so sorry that you have had to experience so many losses <3 There is a medication for FIP now, called GS-441524, but it is VERY expensive because the company that owns the patent for the medication does not want to sell it for veterinary use. It is absolutely horrible that Gilead Sciences is totally okay with letting cats and kittens die of a now-curable virus, all because they refuse to license the medication for veterinary use.

I too have a fat, orange floof. He got up to 28.5 at his highest, and we’ve got him back down to 22 (18 being the goal). Diet food did not work. Calorie counting (15 calories per pound of target weight), and watching to make sure he wasn’t stealing food is what finally did it. Also, no treats, a his food has to be less than a 7 on carbs. He’ll tell you we're trying to murder him.

Unfortunately they don't. Some just like money. There's a vet in my town and people only use him in extreme emergencies only. He will stand by the cash register, while your animal is hurt or needing help and take payment before he will even look at it. Horrible bastard.

I once pointed out to a cat (who has since crossed the Bridge for unrelated reasons and almost a decade after this event) that if the vet didn't like animals, he could make more money treating humans and have an easier time of it (the vet chuckled). Seriously, IMO, vets have it a little rougher than human doctors. Their patients bite, scratch, kick, etc., they have to learn multiple species, and human patients are better at communicating about what's wrong than a vet's patients are.

In theory, but some are like "So, what is the problem?" and it makes you wonder if they even like animals at all... personally, I don't trust a vet who doesn't compliment and pet my beloved kitty

@emadoreshercats generally, the bigger the dog breed, the shorter the lifespan. I adore giant breeds but haven't gotten one (from a rescue) because of the short lifespan. And because my house has stairs, which would likely mean a cr@ppy time for everyone when they get older.

yes, david, i think they know that, but after many years of memories and joy, it still breaks someone's heart that a beloved pet passes away.
