If you love animals, you also probably have a huge appreciation for veterinarians as well. I mean, have you ever imagined what a day in the life of a vet might look like? Imagine this: you arrive at work and your first appointment is a cat just waiting for its vaccine. Yes, an animal, cute and fluffy (more often than not), is a patient of yours today. And hey, while there's a fair share of fun with situations like these, it's rather important not to overlook the industry professionals because this is a demanding job, filled with both challenges and immensely rewarding moments.

Veterinarians experience everything from comical situations to heartfelt recoveries of their furry patients and in part their worried owners. They truly see it all. So today, let's give a big round of applause to these devoted caregivers who not only heal our pets but often soothe our anxiety as well.

I wish I had a photo of my cat with her vet from when she was a kitten. The vet is a super popular vet in my country and treats all animals from pets to those at zoos and wildlife sanctuaries (so he has so many patients) and we don’t have any special friendship with him but he always remembers my cat and greets her when she goes in for her yearly vaccinations.

Ah, man, this is the first post, and I'm already have a duh moment. I thought it was a 15-yr difference seeing the dog as a patient, not that it's been a total of 15-years seeing the patient. Wish me luck, cause I've got 49 more to get through.

Normal fat for a kitten. You WANT them to have a round belly, believe me. You do not want kittens to be skinny. Now, the belly should not be bloated and distended, of course, just round like a Santa Claus belly. Just like little Cheescake’s. Give Cheesecake’s little round belly a couple scratches from me, will you?

My cat almost died from wet FIP when he was a kitten. It is ALWAYS better to take your kitty to the vet if they seem off, or seem bloated, etc. It's so much better to be safe! Wet FIP is 100% fatal unless your cat gets an 84-day course of medicine.

I would get a second opinion. I had a cat that was "female" for over a year. Then I took "her" to another vet and discovered she was a "he". That discovery clarified a lot of his behavior that was distincly male.

How does a vet screw something like that up so badly? I have even had a cryptorchid cat and that mistake was not made. We just thought he sterilized already but the behavior is what made me look further into it, and nope balls were just inside his tummy.

Veterinarians often find themselves in the role of both medical expert and emotional anchor, especially during stressful visits be it stressed owners or stressed pets. Take, for instance, routine checkups that unveil unexpected health issues... These situations often require vets to deliver potentially worrisome news with empathy and care, ensuring that pet owners understand the situation while providing comfort and clear guidance on next steps. So while the job might seem fun at first glance, there's so much more that goes into it.

Every veterinarian, as well as their staff, I have ever known has always had a menagerie (sometimes nearly a private zoo, all free range, of course) at their house, some of whom come to work with them. If someone abandons their pet at the vet’s, guess who takes them in? Yep, that’s right. Then again, if you find a veterinarian and staff uwho don’t do that, never take your pets to them. They don’t have the passionate and dedicated love of animals necessary to be a good vet if they’re able to see an animal in need and just pass them by.

The breed is so gentle and placid. Milo used to go to the dog park and every dog loved him. The was a tiny dog that would jump and bounce all around him, Milo would carefully place each paw as he walked to ensure he didn't hurt the wee thing. My nieces children could climb all over him, stick their heads in his mouth and he would be super careful and gentle with them as babies.

Oh, and we haven't even scratched the surface when it comes to this profession, to be honest. For example, there are emergency cases that come without warning, where vets must act swiftly and decisively. Whether it's a pet that has ingested something harmful or one that's been injured, these urgent situations put a veterinarian's skills to the test. Such incidents are highly stressful for both the pet and the owner, and the vet's ability to remain calm and efficient can make all the difference. It's during these critical hours that the true impact of a vet's work is often felt the most acutely by grateful pet owners.

I would sometimes take her to the dog park so she could play and socialize with other dogs. She would try to hide under the benches/chairs or, if I sat down in one, she would climb into my lap XD She was such a big dog and she was terrified of other dogs! XD

To add to all of this, veterinarians also contribute significantly to public health through preventative care practices! By administering vaccinations, conducting health screenings, and advising on proper nutrition and care, they prevent diseases that can affect both animals and humans (it's an important job all things considered).

A friend told me about their vacation to Australia and when she got to hold a Koala. She said their diet of Eucalyptus makes the stoned pretty much all the time, and that they had a strong odor. I told her my friend Dave-O was like that.

Actually a myth! Eucalyptus leaves just take a long time to digest, so koalas spend a lot of time sleeping to conserve energy.

My nephew was in the army & got sent to kangaroo island to help out with the fires. He had to transport burnt koalas, probably to this hospital.

This is the same clinic I take my rabbits to if they need a vet visit. They have two locations in Minnesota. The nearest one is St Paul, which is about 50 miles one way for me, but they do a really good job. They would send me daily updates like this with photos if one of my rabbits needed an overnight stay. It was really awesome to get them.

I got her from a lady that didn't want to have her because she couldn't get along with her boyfriend dog...I love her and I love my big black void( 7.400 kg)...unfortunately she's not very friendly with him , but as long he doesn't want to play with her, it's fine...my black cat has a dog personality and he's lovely. Every time that I'm going to visit my parents, in Portugal, they stay at the cat hotel...their stay its 3x more expensive than my flight ticket, but I know that they are going to be well treated and in a good accommodation...

Actually, given where I live there is a real possibility that they may have come across some "Special Grass / Seeds" or someone hitting a pipe. Do you think Owls or birds can get a contact high?

That's why I adopted my cat Pepper when she was a kitten at an Adoption Fair. All of the other kittens that were apart of her litter were already being adopted and were snuggled together sleeping. Then there was Pepper, her tiny butt had scaled the cage and was howling up a storm. She had been passed over because according to the Tech she looked "strange" and was too "ugly" compared to the other cats that they had there. Pepper was a Torty, so she looked like a black, white, orange and gray kitten with huge ears and feet that had been put together as leftovers from the other cats. So I adopted her, gave her a name and brought her home to my cat Jazzy and they fell in love with each other at first sight. Pepper never grew into her ears and feet and several years later when we lost Jazzy, I honestly don't think Pepper ever got over it no matter what we did or tried. She went from perfectly healthy and was 3 years younger then Jazzy to a spiral that ended a year later when she died.

Anyone that says that "Cat's don't feel pain or have feelings" are ignorant SOB's and deserve to be smacked upside the head. I almost lost Tiger after Mom died, because he was always her baby and stayed by her side until she went into the hospital 2 weeks before she died. If I hadn't fought so hard and had Romy and Tux to help me then the Vet said he would have died from grief. He was imprinted on my Mom and the Vet was shocked because after losing Mom then Tux and Romy a little over a year later, Tiger has now imprinted onto me. Which my Vet, who has been practicing for 60 years and sits on numerous boards, said that it is very rare for a cat to fully imprint onto 2 different people. Imprinting is a HUGE thing for cats, so for all of you Cat owners, PLEASE think about that when you adopt or take in a Cat. Because once that happens they could actually die if they become permanently separated from you.

I just got flashbacks about my son who climbed anything he could before he could walk. The flashback in question happened when he was a young toddler. We were waiting for his dad to come out of the restroom. We were standing in front of a chain length fence and he was next to me. I was looking toward the restroom for maybe a minute and turned back to see him halfway up the fence! 🤣

I didn't know about this, but I found: Atlantoaxial (AA) luxation is a condition in which instability or excessive movement is present between the first two vertebrae within the neck. This spinal disorder is most commonly seen in young, small breed dogs, such as Toy Poodles, Miniature Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians, and Chihuahuas. -- VCA Animal Hospitals

Yep. The very edge of the seat, and about six inches at the edge of the bed too. Even small animals have this uncanny ability to expand and fill entire large areas meant for more than one creature to occupy. The first to be pushed out are humans, of course. We’d sleep on the cold floor just so our beloved pets can sleep comfy and undisturbed on the bed—-our bed.

I got to pat a lion cub...and it WAS incredibly soft. The next person who held the lion cub, the cub reached up & scratched the person's face, claws out. I realized that despite the age it's still a wild animal & I was very, very lucky that I didn't get my face altered by the cub!

That actually works as pleasure sensations travel faster to the brain than pain sensations, which is why we instinctively suck our thumbs as soon as we hit them with a hammer - it dulls the pain!!!! So the hug gets there before the needle prick.

Get your puppies vaccinated ASAP and do not let them come into contact with other dogs until they are fully vaxxed! I adopted a puppy from a farm and the farm's owner lied about giving the litter their first vaccines. The puppies all got exposed to distemper on the farm. My pup, Stilgar, survived, but has severe neurological damage (constant, full-body myoclonus) and mobility and balance issues from the virus. Several of his littermates did not survive. Distemper has an 80-90% mortality rate in puppies.

Right? There's a line item on my vet bill for extra kindness, but it's $0.30 which is really weird to even charge for that. I'm not going to switch vets, but weird, right?

Went on the Reddit site and could just make out a zero corresponding to the extra & kisses line. As far as the OSHA compliance charge, that looks to be about $5. My cost is usually $3 per visit. I assume that’s for the cost to get rid of medical waste (bloody swabs, needles, etc.)

My uneducated guess is that they're keeping him a little bit chilly, which would slow him down but not hurt him. Also, they've got his eyes covered so he won't freak out too badly at being in unfamiliar surroundings and having people walk around/behind him.

Eleanor May Only Have 3 Legs, But She Humbly Requests A Full Staff For Her Blood Draws

    2. Head holder Technician Shelly - also important, must not move!⁣
    3. Butt scratcher Doctor Koelmel - super important, depending on who you ask, THE MOST important.
    4. Paw holder Technician Marissa - everyone needs a little extra support.
    5. Food duty provided by Assistant Jackie. Spray cheese on a spoon and peanut butter in a Kong. If you ask Eleanor, this is the ONLY thing that is needed. ⁣

Like any endotracheal tube, it would only need to reach in past the larynx. The challenge, if any, would be to push enough oxygen and anesthetic gas with each breath to reach the lungs. Good point on the nasogastric tube, though.

Yes, that's the so-called rabies hook they're using. He also bit through bite-proof gloves. And the kicker is that the bad stuff was over with. We were ready to go home!

That gap is in many rooms with built-in cabinets near the floor and many animals get stuck in it. Henri's in home vet visit was ruined when we couldn't get her out.

I'm the proud owner of three Sphinx cats, each with their own vibrant personality. It's fascinating to see how distinct they are from one another. I often compare them to potato chips—you can't have just one! These unique creatures have truly captured my heart; I adore my Sphinx trio.

I can relate so so much on this on. My husband's cat, Pisant, was just like that. His cat because no one else could get near her. Small, but big attitude. Liked to torment our other-bigger cats. Nicknamed 'Cat from H--ll.' Had major surgery and the vet called to give a status. I commented on the poor cat howling in the background. He said that was our cat and to come get her. Miss her terribly.

My wife is a Vet Tech. One of our cats was so bad he got kicked out. Do you know how freaking bad you have to be to be kicked out of a clinic that your mom works at!?!

My first cat was the same. Had to dismantle the carrier to get her out. Then they muzzled her and wrapped her in a towel. After a few visits vet said not to bring her back. He made house calls if we needed something.

This was my cat Pepper that I mentioned in a previous post! She hated the Vet and would swipe and claw at anyone that wasn't me. Tiger is the same way so I have to dose him with sedatives HOURS be he goes in, because even though he's only 7.5 lbs that's the only way I can get him into the pet carrier and the vet can exam him. That grumpy old man has taken swipes and scratched the s**t out of me and the Vet so when something basic happens that only require general antibiotics he'll give me prescription and we'll give it a try and I don't even have to bring him in.

One of the first cats I had, when he was spayed, would not get out for the vet tech. I had to go back and get him. He did not come out of anesthesia well at all. When I went back, he didn't recognize me at all until I put my hand in to pet him, then he literally lept into my lap. I had to drive with one hand, because he'd cry unless I had my hand on him in the cat carrier.

My sister asked me to pick up her Min-Pin after a minor procedure. Siena didn't like a lot of people and the vet tech asked me to get her out of the age. She was so upset she growled at me until I remembered I had her "brother" Wolfgang's scent on me. I stuck my elbow in the cage and she literally jumped into my arms.

My friend n i found a baby snapper in a yard. We gently picked it up ducked back to my home (8 houses away) placed it in a tupperwear container n took it to the nearby vet where they took it in n housed it in the nearby pond area out back. Little snapper was hissing at us the whole time but glad we could help it

Most brachycephalic dogs cannot give birth normally/naturally. 80% of ALL Frenchies have to have c-sections to give birth because the puppies' skulls are too large for the birth canal. These dogs CANNOT BE BORN NATURALLY. It is not healthy or normal. We, as humans, really need to move away from the extreme brachycephaly of breeds such as the Pug, Frenchies, English bulldogs, etc. These dogs often have massive breathing problems and dental issues as well.

I absolutely agree. Why is it allowed and even promoted in the breeds?! Large and small animals, bred for 'fashion' - even horses. Look at Arabians, they are caricatures now!
