"AI! AI!" says someone who just knows that vaccines are made out of dead babies and contain a microchip that lets Bill Gates track one to the end of the Earth (the flat earth, obviously). 😉
I've had five covid vaccines and still have no super powers. I would want my money back if they weren't free.

Load More Replies...If you’re not familiar with the concept, liminal spaces can be described as places or moments where you feel like you're in between two different things, neither here nor there. It's like that strange feeling you get when you're in an empty parking lot at night or in a quiet, empty hallway.
To get to know more about why liminal spaces can feel so unsettling and intriguing, Bored Panda spoke with Francis McAndrew, Cornelia H. Dudley Professor of Psychology at Knox College. Keep scrolling to learn more about the psychology behind these eerie but fascinating experiences and what makes them so captivating.

Ikr. I love going on my porch on quiet snowy nights.

“By definition, a liminal space represents a transition from something familiar and safe to something new and uncertain. It can be an actual physical space that one moves through or a more abstract period of time during which a significant life change is taking place. In either case, it is unsettling and is often experienced as unpleasant,” McAndrew told us. But why do these places make us feel this way?
According to the professor, creepiness is entirely about uncertainty. “We are uncomfortable with ambiguity and unpredictability. A place that is hard to figure out is troubling to us because we are unsure about whether there is something to fear from it or not. This feeling of getting ‘creeped out’ marshals our resources and keeps us paying attention in order to resolve the uncertainty.”
This Makes It Feel So Much Worse
That STOP sign, though. This looks like southern Utah, or there abouts and I can't imagine why a stop sign would need to be that tall. The rock formations are close to mirror images. Weird but cool.
The pic is in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park Arizona, more specifically from a parking lot. The image is photo shopped.

An Apartment Building In My City
Looks exactly like the building where my dad (83) lives with his wife (90). All elderly people there. They like it, a lot of neighbours know each other and there's a lot of social control.
Social control doesn't sound too good to me, tbh
Load More Replies...Liminal spaces can be fascinating and a bit eerie at the same time. They grab our attention, but they can also make us feel uncomfortable. So, why do we find them both creepy and captivating? McAndrew shared that liminal spaces capture our curiosity - “we don't usually like them, but we can't look away. Liminal spaces violate our expectations; empty places that are usually crowded or places with features that seem out of context are fascinating because we feel compelled to try and make sense of them.”

End Of Life Care?
Well, it's 1000x better than a sterile antiseptic smelling hospital room.
1. Reminds me of a nursing home I visited when I was a kid, even without the context this is exactly how it felt and 2. I had a dream last night about being in end of life care, as a teenager dressed up and snuck in and pretended to be a dying old lady
Vibes of a scene from he film "soylent green" when the grandfather went to die (Edward G Robinson I believe)
A "Green Space" Being Built In A Hospital
Nothing like indoor artificial turf to harbor hospital-grade microbes. Brilliant!
Load More Replies...Honestly, I wouldn’t mind these in the waiting rooms with some bright lights and maybe some forestry painted on the walls in the area. Sometimes people get sucky rooms with windows that overlook the parking lot or another wall of the hospital. So a little color and lighting goes a long way to make people feel better.
I was thinking it reminded me of a soccer pitch.

I Have A Liminal Space Outside My Window
We have plenty of this here. And plenty a******s that try to go under my truck because they don t know how to take a roundabout. Recently I ripped all the front part of a car with my rear part of my truck because a young lady decide she fits in left side while I was turning.....the cops laughed because she said she was right .
It's really not that difficult.. and often much better than sitting around waiting for traffic lights as well.
Load More Replies...Roundabouts need to be more commonplace and should be part of driver’s testing. I only encountered a few of them until I lived near Columbus for a year where there’s dozens of them in a small area. My first time almost f*****g up I was driving a Chevy 3500 with a BigTex trailer and a geotechnical drill loaded on the trailer- I came up to three roundabouts in a row. It was not a straight road but Maps said it was. Talk about confusion.

If You Wander Through A Khazakstani Exclusion Zone, You'll Eventually Be Surrounded By Irradiated Alien-Like Metal Structures. These Are Known As The Geese And Sit On The Site Of The Most Nuclear-Bombed Site In The World. Semipalatinsk
Folks, I just read about this, starting at Wikipedia. It's astonishing. Semipalatinsk is the Soviet name for Semey, a fairly major city (350,000) also once known as Alash-qalah. The Soviets didn't bother finding an unpopulated area to test its bombs, continuing to test around this city right until the fall of 1989. Local survivors believe they are adapted to the radiation, especially because of the perception that those who move AWAY from Semey are more likely to die.
Probably should pick a different limb for that joke. But what if I told you the notion that radiation causing permanent changes to the genes of a population was just a myth, and that this place helped demonstrate that?

Visited My Childhood Mall, It Always Had So Many People. I Can Still Hear Them But... I Don't See Anybody
The one time I truly felt unsettled by something that counts as a liminal space was wandering a dead mall from my childhood. Huge contrast to the malls in the area in which I live; they're all bustling. You have the folks who walk there (incl me), the folks shopping, hanging out at the fun kids' areas with their families while their children burn some energy, folks filling the food courts... it's great! That dead mall though... killed any dreams I had about that place.

Old Mall Out Of Business
Aww, I love these kind of malls. This looks even way nicer than Crystal City. That's an underground mall in Washington DC that's just about on its last legs... used for little other than connecting government contractors to the subway. I hope Amazon will revitalize it, but I think they'll probably just do away with it. (If you've BEEN to Crystal City and don't know what I mean, one hallway in the mall has a wierd Renaissance Fest theme to it.... but only one. It had unique businesses like a puppet shop, a costume store, etc.) (The base realignment killed Crystal City, significantly before the "retail apocalypse" that killed so many other malls.)
yeah it's so sad :( i went there in 2021 and it was so cool

Very common for basements to have windows in the US. They double as escape doors in case of fire or other emergencies. They are half covered by ground. If you look closely you can see a metal shroud. Stops the earth from touching the window. You can actually stand there and someone in the basement would see your feet up to about your knees.
