Unpopular opinions—chances are, we all have them. Whether we voice them or not is up to us entirely, but of course, some people cannot resist a chance to share their thoughts in some online threads, especially if you can hide behind an avatar and a username that probably isn’t going to expose your real identity to anyone (unless you don’t care, that is).

A popular Twitter user by the name of @jzux aka ‘trash jones’ asked her followers to share their most benign unpopular opinions. As expected, the thread was too hard to resist for a lot of the bird app users as the tweet went viral, receiving over 21.4K quote tweets as well as a lot of entertaining replies under the original post itself.

With that being said, if you’d like to see what is this all about, then think no further and scroll down below to see if you agree or disagree with some of the statements these people shared online.

Interestingly enough, the Georgia Institute of Technology has actually done studies in regard to unpopular opinions people have. Using the data found (that was based on a popular subreddit called R/unpopularopinion), Dasom Eom, Linh Hoang, and Gerry Oei came to some rather interesting conclusions based on their study.

Their research heavily links to a social phenomenon called the spiral of silence. To understand this better, first, you have to know what the theory of the spiral of silence entails. German political scientist Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann developed the spiral of silence theory, which combines political science and mass communication. It claims that a person's desire to express their own beliefs is influenced by how they perceive the distribution of the general public's opinions.

Making your whole identity about your mental illness is weird too. I understand that being deep down in the hole that is clinical depression makes it hard to see anything beyond that, but you get perfectly functioning humans build a whole new personality and lifestyle around a diagnosis.

The development of internet technology and online communication has recently prompted people to speak out and share their opinions in public online, shattering the barrier of the spiral of silence. Users can openly post and discuss socially undesirable opinions on the subreddit r/unpopularopinion. In this exact study, the forum was studied using the results from participant interviews and community observation. Then they also presented a descriptive analysis to demonstrate how the online space aids its users in overcoming the spiral of silence.

I wouldn’t pick a small dog myself but the excessive barking and dog reactivity is 99% owners fault . They baby these little beasts and nurture their “small man syndrome”. Chihuahuas are one of the smartest breeds on the planet but look what LA starlets did to them ..

I was scared of hearing extreme barking when my sister got a half Chihuahua. But he's quiet and the sweetest dog you'll meet. Loves everyone and everything, even some cats. I still think chihuahuas are a bit ugly, but he's a good dog.

In my opinion every dog is cute and good. it's always the owners who ruin them. Also many small dogs were originally bred to hunt small animals and to alert. So it's not surprising they bark more than bigger dogs who were bred to guard, protect and do harder labour.

This! I have a rather large dog and he's super chill, doesn't care about other dogs or people when on a walk and only barks when someones on our ground who doesn't belong or the door bell rings. My ex had two tiny dogs and they barked at EVERYTHING even when I was at his home for several days and I left the bedroom to use the bathroom.

Owner of two small dogs. Yes, they border on hysterical 75% of the time. One of mine is actually taking Xanax because her hysteria is exacerbating her epilepsy. But I find them much cuddlier than big dogs. Also the slobber is less.

No- it is not the dog. It is the a******s owner that does not know s*** about dogs. No training. No manners. Sometimes very reflective of the personality of the owner sometimes stupid owner. Saw 2 pit mixes in Lowes the other day with a family- mom/dad/2 small kids. Dogs dragging adults . Dogs got in a serious fight with each other and were immediately asked to leave the store. Owners very 'insulted'. Idiots like these have no business owning an animal.

Most people don't know how to have small dogs. My Daisy was 9 pounds all of her 18 years so she was a small dog. However when I said no to her barking she stopped. Whatever I said went. She obeyed me 100%. I was firm and loving with her and she was a great dog. Everyone that met her loved her and I heard often how many people hated small dogs but loved her. People with small dogs let them get away with too much because they are small and cute. It's the owners... it's always the owners!

It's not always the dogs fault, it's the owners lack of interest to teach the dog not to bark over everything and anything. We've got a Mastines Español who barks outside and recently we've adopted a surprise puppy with no background of breed whatsoever.... He does everything his big brother does but as soon as they start yapping about nothing, we correct them ;) They know when to bark and when not to bark.

While many/most are annoying, the reason is almost 100% because of the owners' mindset. "It's small, like a cat, so I don't need to do any training". And the other thing that I see with people with small dogs is in social dog or person situations, they simply pick the dog up... which contributes to their annoying personality. They need to socialize and resolve things on the ground. On the flip side, I met a dog trainer who had a tiny little teacup poodle. Looked like a small stuffed animal. And yet he followed her instructions perfectly and was absolutely amazing. Once again, it's the humans.

I have a miniature Dachsund that only barks when someone comes in the yard and stops when I tell her to. It's called training and it is something people with small dogs think they do not need to do. Size does not matter.

It's not about size, it's about training and upbringing. We have two small dogs that bark only a little cause we taught them from their first days with us they shouldn't. Problem is people think small breeds do not need to be trained, so they don't.

My little dog is Flippin yappy and sometimes drives me crazy . . . But at the same time I am a 53 year old female and I live alone the number one reason I have a dog is so she will bark at noises and alert me to danger. Also a fog of any size that barks is the number 1 deterrent for burgurlars/home invaders. So bark away tiny companions!!!

I believe this is mostly because people with small dogs dont spend enough time training the dog. You can teach your dog to not bark.. even if it is small.

I think that while part of the undesired behaviour is down to a dog's personality (yes, all dogs are not the same, just like human beings) often, the lack of socialisation and training causes it...

The only problem is the owners. Many people just see small dogs as little accessory’s and don’t treat them right. This goes especially for *chauhwawas they are treated terribly and that makes them aggressive and them being aggressive a lot gives them a bad reputation. It’s sad, but true as someone who has a *chuahwawa who was in an unsafe home.

I think the problem with a lot of small dogs is just a lack of training. Things that would be unacceptable for a big dog to do, and thus are taught not to do, are often thought of as "cute" when a small dog does it. Like, running up aggressively to any person or animal it sees. "Oh, look. Tinkerbell, thinks she's a big dog. That's so cute." No, it's not.

The owners are to blame here. They yap and act "obnoxious" because since they are small, their owners do not exercise them properly or stimulate their minds enough (they think they can just leave them). Lock up a two year old human and don't let them run off their energy or give them anything to do. They're gonna be annoying. Same for dogs.

I have to agree with dislike of the overindulged high-strung nonstop-yapping "rodent in a dog suit" purse vermin style of "dog". I have known some small dogs, who were reasonably calm and could behave themselves, that I liked just fine, but I do prefer the larger breeds. IN GENERAL (I am aware of exceptions in both directions), larger dogs TEND to be calmer and maybe a bit smarter.

In conclusion, one of the issues with online spaces (especially Reddit) identified in the study is the recurrent re-uploading of similar viewpoints on the same subject. After a while, users may believe the viewpoint is common and widespread after repeatedly hearing similar unpopular thoughts, thus it becomes the popular idea in the end.

Right....because trigger totally doesn't have a neutral meaning. Nobody needs to say "oh yeah that really triggered a response" or "I think it was the cinnamon that triggered that reaction"..../s

I don't like Eagles fans typically. They are obnoxious and will literally punch you in the face over a game.

you need to actually try an actual pumpkin. Here in Africa we roast them with a range of spices like oven potato style. Or you can mash them and deep fry the mashed globs (about fist-sized) as a savory snack similar to a donut. Pumpkins are not only (a) for flavoring starbucks and (b) for halloween.

Apparently you've never had a fresh, warm blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. RIP on that lonely hill.

Not entierly true. Getting excided about squirrels or motorcycles is just dangerous. Also these specific triggers will probably trigger the predatory chain which means that your dog will loose all control and it wil feel primal and strong. Meaning that it's super reinforcing... and it might become a habit to seek those triggers. And that's dangerous for general dogs health! So it's fine as long as it's not a common and reocurring thing.

Peanut butter is one of my favorite foods. I'm hypoglycemic so it's a good recovery food for me.

I disagree... they have skin in the game if they care about younger loved ones or are in the know about the political climate. Just because someone grew up one way doesn't mean they don't have an understanding after living so long to give input. This is just narrow minded thinking. If I let my 21 yo vote on all topics the place would turn to s**t. Come on people. Everyone has a voice. Would hate to see how this person feels when they get old and feeble and they make It that long not to have a voice when their mind is still working.

Coming from a country the "Bread Culture" of which has been recognized by UNESCO as cultural world heritage, I feel personally offended by this. "Wrong shape for the toaster" should never be a point on which to judge bread. Somehow the only bread Americans seem to deem acceptable is toast so sweet it would be considered cake elsewhere...

Hate most things in even numbers. Odd is nearly always better. 3 candles look better than 2 together. 3 plants planted in a group look better than 4. Etc.

Humans used to eat beans ALOT until the meat processing industry. Beans are easy to grow and they're healthier than meat.

For me sandals are the only comfortable thing when it's hot outside. I hate wearing too hot clothes, and by 'clothes' I also mean 'shoes'.

I assume it's because they are overwhelmingly sad or happy and if you're uncomfortable then you should control that emotion as it's probably easier than what they are going through.
