Some relationships are simply not meant to be. The person who you think might be your soul mate can turn out to be incredibly toxic once you spend more time with them. And in some cases, it can take months or even years for their true character to shine through.
At the end of the day, everyone’s responsible for communicating and enforcing their healthy boundaries. If someone continues to disrespect you and constantly ignores your boundaries, you’re better off breaking things off. Nobody deserves to be mistreated in relationships.

Promised to take me to Disneyland one day, together 12 years. Told my friends he had booked it as a surprise for my 30th so not to make plans. 30th came, no Disney. I have found this to be true with religious people I have known who have done "bad" things. They frequently blame an external source rather than believing that they could have done something wrong. VERY difficult to make progress with in therapy, in my personal experience.

My ex who I was still friends with, decided that when my father was dying, I was suddenly too much work. He decided that he was moving to a new city and didn't want any 'stress'. Didn't matter I'd supported him through a butt load of stuff that wasn't mine to deal with. He dropped me like a hot coal. He turned up at my place randomly a year later after no contact and was looking for sympathy cause he'd written his car off. He asked how my father was, I replied "Dead. Now f off!" and shut the door.

4 years into a relationship, he promised me a new life, with us working as a team, together, so I could start again after some nightmarish stuff that happened in my life. He promised me marriage, and help, and kindness and peace, so I left my country, moved to his country half the world away, without speaking the language there. He promised me we would drive together to his hometown after he picked me up from the airport. But the car's motor got broken, so the car needed a new motor which I paid, and when the car was repaired he said he was going tho his hometown by himself, and left me stranded in Istanbul, alone, without money, without knowing anyone and without speaking Turkish. So much for a new start together. Never another man in my life, not even close
