Person Asks People Over 40 To Share Their Pics To Show Aging Is Not That Scary (30 Pics)
Everywhere you turn, you’ll see people who look far younger than their real age. While some people believe that it’s all downhill after you hit 40, this couldn’t be farther from the truth! Life really just starts then, as Twitter user Renatanover showed her followers.
The 43-year-old from Moscow was tired of hearing people getting criticized for aging. So she started up a thread and invited people to post photos that prove that they can look fabulous, young, and gorgeous even after 40. Especially when you consider that we’re living longer and longer and have access to better nutrition and ever-improving healthcare. Scroll down and upvote your favorite photos, dear Pandas. Be sure to let us know what you think of them in the comments!
To learn more about staying healthy and feeling young as we age, Bored Panda reached out to the team at Age UK. “Eating a healthy diet, staying active for longer, protecting yourself against illness and staying connected to friends and family are great places to start in ensuring you stay healthy and happy as you get older," said Caroline Abrahams, Age UK’s Charity Director. Scroll down for the full interview, dear Pandas!
"Again I read about wrinkles and sagging skin in 40-year-olds. I have long wanted to do it because the thread of life doesn't just end at 40. Show your photos in the replies. I want people to understand what they are talking about. I'll begin. I'm 43."

"I'm 53. I don't live with anyone, my son has grown up, loved by my side, my heart is alive, and my head is my own. Freedom!"
"Eating a healthy diet means enjoying your food and having plenty of variety so you get all the nutrients you need and maintain a healthy weight and stay well," Abrahams explained the importance of eating well. However, equally as important is staying social.
"Keeping up our ties to friends and family and taking part in social activities is an important tool to helping us stay sharp as we age. Keeping active, in particular, has many benefits besides fighting off illness, such as: lowering the risk of depression and dementia or developing heart disease. It also reduces the likelihood of having a stroke, and lowers the risk of some cancers," Age UK's Charity Director went into detail about the many pros of moving more.
"Okay, I'll join the club too... 48 in a month."
"Moving more can help our thinking skills too—like problem-solving, decision-making and remembering facts and words. It can also lessen aches and pains, help us to stay steady on our feet, improve our sleep, and boost our mood."
In general, choosing to move more, especially in nature, is better than moving less. Physical activities done in the great outdoors have the most benefits. So walking out in the countryside or choosing to walk instead of driving is better than nothing.
"That's my mom. The photo was taken a year or two ago. She is 42 at the moment, we were once called sisters."
"Making sure that regular exercise stays a key part of our routine is one of the best ways to stay well and therefore stay independent," Abrahams pointed out the importance of getting into the habit of moving.
She stressed that it's never too late to start being more active. That doesn't mean that we all have to aspire to be marathon runners, however! "Being more active isn't about working up a sweat or running marathons. It's simply about moving more each day, in whatever way works, within our own capabilities. Even a small amount of movement can make a big difference to our mental and physical health.”
You can find some more advice from Age UK about staying healthy as we age right here and here.
Looking great and always feeling energetic gets harder and harder as we get older. It’s only natural, as our bodies slow down and start wearing and tearing. However, it doesn’t mean that feeling young is impossible when you leave your twenties, thirties, and beyond! With the right mindset and habits, like having a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise, you can live a high-quality life (and be way more capable than when you were younger).
One of the main things that contribute to faster aging is stress. Now, obviously, stress is unavoidable. However, we can change how we react to stressful situations to make sure that we come out on top.
"My dear mother who is 54. I am proud of her and dream of looking just as lovely after fifty."
It might sound cliched, but meditation really does help us relax, focus, and get our priorities straight. Furthermore, it's a wonderful antidote to aging. Even a 10-minute meditation session can help you forget about minor quibbles at work and recenter yourself. But it’s not a one-time fix—meditation is something that you need to get in the habit of doing daily. It’s a lifestyle change. Not a bandaid.
"My most beloved woman, 40."
If you’re planning to live to be over a hundred, you’ll want to start making changes to your lifestyle right now. According to the authors of ‘Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life,’ people tend to live longer by staying busy and slowing down at the same time. It might sound like a contradiction, but it’s not.
It means having an active social life, moving lots, spending tons of time in nature on the one hand, as well as saying ‘goodbye’ to a life full of rushing and much ado about nothing on the other hand. Oh, and one last tip—eat a variety of different foods but avoid overeating. When you feel that you’re four-fifths of the way to being full, it’s time to stop eating and go do something else. Like following your ‘Ikigai,’ your true passion. Or meeting with your loved ones. Preferably, somewhere out in nature!

"I'm 40 years old, 4 sons. I haven't visited a beautician yet."
"My incredible mom is 39 years old, but still."

"My mom, 48."

No one over 57? I'm pretty sure that most people live past that age. Did you only pick the pretty ones that were in their 40s and 50s? Just another form of age-ism and promoting a youth oriented culture. What about someone in their 80s with a lovely lined face? I'm sure there are a few in the world. Shame on you!
"I'm 41."
41. No smoking, rarely consume alcohol, don't even touch coffee, try to exercise 3 times a week. Funny how I'm working on a second degree and classmates don't realize I'm old enough to be their dad. Nick-Shirt...bc8f26.jpg

Who decided that being in your 40s is old - the title of this makes it sound like we all thought we would pack it in when we hit 40.
Scrolling through I'd say pretty much all of them look their age. Which is okay.
Work portrait from last year - I was 42, now 43. The only thing different now is my hair length. Lol. I'm expecting that wrinkles will hit hard one year soon... and I'm okay with that! 2018-5f4ee...d6294b.jpg
This photo was taken earlier this year - no makeup, no filters. I'm turning 50 in December. profile-5f...b228af.jpg
40 year-olds now are way cooler than those I remember when I was a teenager (I'm 44 now)
My mom is in her 70s but let me tell you, she is always the best dressed person in the room. Looking youthful comes from the inside out. 05E3855C-3...65a76f.jpg
I'm 62- I clearly recall feeling young, vibrant, and attractive in my 40's; please don't EVER feel like 40's is old!!! Not even close!
Gone are the days of worrying about getting older. You can look your age AND look amazing.
I never liked these, “I still look good at a certain age posts”. Stop putting standards about how a woman should look by a certain age. I myself was terrified that by the time I hit my thirties, I would start to look wrinkly and old because that’s what was drilled in my brain for years. It infuriates me to see posts about how amazing they look in their thirties and forties, to imply that is old and applaud someone for looking good. We all come from different genetic make-up. Some get wrinkles early, some don’t. These women looks exactly their age, and that is OK! Women’s are each other’s enemy most of the time.
I'm 61 and I see all these as middle aged not old. It's sad you think this age is old. My generation didn't grow up with sunscreen, it wasn't invented. I want to see them come back in their 60s and 70s.
This is me at 53. I'm now 71, and getting reasonably wrinkled. Starting to look (and feel) my age now. LOL! Me-in-my-5...88edb4.jpg
I think that the fashions of today do help make most people look younger than in the past... I'm 51 and when my grandparents were my age, they looked two decades older. Life is different (and for most of us better) now... age is seen differently too. My mother who is in her mid 70s wears jeans, something women of her age in previous generations wouldn't have dreamed of doing (both grandmothers wore dresses and aprons).
And I am... jealous. Of the healthy people ageing nicely. I will not be so lucky -_-
What I LOVE LOVE LOVE about these pictures is that these women are showing how beautiful they are without professional hair and makeup, and without touch-ups done to their photos! These are obtainable beauty standards! (Yes, I'm a guy, so I don't have this problem, but I still see it and it still bothers me.)
I think they look good, I wish we could stop tearing each other down
40, 45, 50 -and they think they're old. LOL -ain't seen nothin' yet, lol -and hiding behind all that make up, some of them.
I am 38 and when I tell people my oldest son is 19 they tell me I don't look old enough to have kids hahaha
First off, you can probably tell I'm not female but, I'm frequently told that I look 50 or younger ... I'm 64. unnamed-6-...63c116.jpg
I am surprised about this post. I believe it somehow contradicts others that speaks about accepting your own beauty. All of these women are beuatiful, but most of them don't show signs of normal aging (small wrinkles, some grays, tummys with some little extra fat after pregnancies) and I believe that this keeps on creating unrealistic expectations. Maybe is not because of filters, but it is because skin and beauty treatments that are not affordable to everybody.
I think, age is but a state of mind! Stay positive, and positive stays on your face! I am now 61, and though my body has given me trials and tribulations, I get through it, get back up, and keep going. I am the oldest of 4 women, and we are all very close, and though they all dye their hair, they would all look amazing if they went grey! I have been " going" grey since I was 38. But it doesn't seem to go fast! I have some grey in my hair, but mostly up front. And some purple fading out from a purple bee I got up my butt, just to see what it looked like! So,etching I'd never have done. I wake up thinking I am 18! And keep that all day. Wish I could show you me at 61, but, no way to post it! Stay young and beautiful ladies! We all deserve it!
Being a home hair dyer myself, I can't help thinking that that most of these have coloured hair. Not that it's bad, I've experienced for myself the difference my natural grey vs dye, and without it it, I look about 20 years older. For those who have luscious grey hair, I'm envious
Is this facing the fear of aging, or just saying: 'Don't worry, you might not look that old when you're older?' Really facing that fear be saying: 'Okay, some day, maybe decades from now, I inevitably will actually look very old, and that will be okay.'
When my mom and I are out in public and especially dressed similarly, we get asked if we're twins. It happened three times IN ONE WEEK a couple years ago. When that happens, I lie to say, yep, I was stuck in her womb for 26 years, just to see the response. I will be 47 next month, she will be 73, and I think it's been about a month since someone asked if we were twins.
I like the "prompt" picture because of the color scheme. The shape of the hair also pulls it together.
I am 30 and people say i look 18.... healthy diet sunblock and staying hydrated goes a long way.
It's not people over 40, but only women. Why is that? I'm a man, I am 40, and I look bloody fantastic! :)
