Zhongshuge Bookstore By Li Xiang
On the second picture you can see where the shelves end, and the fake books start. It's very impressive
The fake books are about freedom of speech me thinks...
Load More Replies...As an avid reader, I don't like this. More than half the books are inaccessible.
Don't worry, the unreachable ones are fake (but it still hurts my eyes to look at this, so many weird lights and reflecting surfaces, I want a comfy environment to read...)
Load More Replies...If more than 10% of these books were reachable it would probably be cooler...
Garden House — Design: Ti Lee
Always liked the idea of a house built around a central courtyard. This is one of the few designs here that could be lived in.
That's how a lot of old houses were built, but less open space. I'm just glad to see this style being picked up again
Load More Replies...Stupid question: how do you mow? The house will fill with clippings, right? Love it, though!!
Not stupid at all. Many of these beautiful designs are totally not functional.
Load More Replies...Imagining my five dogs in and out this little garden and onto the white flooring, hahaha
I like the idea of opening doors to an inside courtyard with a tree and grass!
Infinity Pool
Unless you have something to do with interior design, you probably don’t look much at the place around you except for wanting it to be pleasant to be in and practical. But that’s already a lot to ask for. Because essentially, interior designs are our aesthetic aids that, if made well, can help us to find that much-needed inner peace.
From the ancient Chinese art of feng shui, where spatial positioning corresponds with energy flow, or wabi sabi, the Japanese practice of embracing imperfections, the harmony with ourselves and our space is something we’ve been looking into throughout history.
Bathroom By Mantis-Design Build
I've always wondered: with a showerhead like this, how do you wash without your face in the water?
You can step out of the direct spray of water. We have a similar design, with the skylight included, and it's supposed to simulate a rain shower. You can also turn it off, and turn on the other shower heads if you want. My SO rarely uses the "rain" shower head because he says it's "overwhelming," whereas I love it! (If I could take a shower outside in the rain without people thinking I was mental, I would 😊)
Load More Replies...This looks lovely, but when I shower, no cold air is allowed in. I want ALL the heated air to stay with me.
You turn off the overhead rain shower and use the shower head on the side for that. I am not impressed with rain shower options. They're pretty but not very useful if you are doing more than just standing in the water!
Do You Love Winter Holidays? – Design: Selami Bektas
What is it with the tubs right next to the bed? I want my peace and quiet when in the tub, not people lying in bed next to me. And I don't want steamy bathroom air when I sleep, or damp bedsheets.
I'm with you most of the time but a wall between the bathtub and the bed means that awesome view is blocked from most of the room. This looks like a vacation stay room so I''d prefer this set up to less light less vistas for the week.
Load More Replies...I could not strip naked in front of that window. I just know there'd be one guy in those hills with a pair of binoculars thinking all his Christmases had come at once!
Seems like a lot of work to get a lump of coal for christmas.
Load More Replies...Meh. Not cozy. and I don't get the trend of having a bathtub in the bedroom
What is it with tubs? In my last apartment, I used the tub maybe once a year. In my current apartment, I only have a shower. Sure, it's nice to have choices, but tubs are not actually a necessity. Also, not very environmentally friendly to waste all this excess of water every other week (day?).
Danish Upcycling Project
Those are purpose made steam-bent lamellar wood benches, there is no "upcycling". Nice design, but the title is misleading.
No, those are apparently made from "waste wood", according to the copy here (https://danishdesignaward.com/en/arkiver/nominee/copenhagen-towers): "In this project, the Lendager Group has found new innovative ways to upcycle used concrete, waste wood and PET plastic bottles, among other elements."
Load More Replies...Used to work in the building. Our office was on the 10th floor. We would eat lunch at those tables in the picture. I always loved the trees were real and we were inside. A leaf would always fall into your food!
Awesome design for a restaurant. Or a food court in a mall. Do we even have malls anymore?
According to interior designer Timothy Corrigan of Timothy Corrigan Inc., “there is more and more research that shows the direct influence that our homes have, not only on our moods, but our overall health and well-being.” In such chaotic times when people spend more and more time in the comfort of their homes, the space, the ambience, the decor, and the function become probably one of the most important aspects in our lives.
Dragon LEGO Table By Ogilvy
To Denomgrrrrl. Now you mention it I wasn't paying close attention that the table was cropped. Look closer and I could see the back left leg. Thank you.
A Place Where Ideas Are Born — Picture: Guillaume Favre
It amazes me that people get to live in these amazing places. I want to be rich, too :(
I don't. I have a cozy 700' house with enough room for me, Bouche, and all of her toy mice.
Load More Replies...I hope there are external lights. For the night. It scares me a little.
Underwater Restaurant By Snøhetta
Interesting to visit once but live there? Nope.
Load More Replies...It's pretty, but just looking at the pictures is making me claustrophobic
in all the other posts, people are saying something about claustrophobia while I usually would feel extra safe there, but this one....I could never. it's super cool, but sensory issues are oVeRfLoWiNg
I was there. Worried about the same before going in, but it was never an issue. Just lovely design and ambience.
Load More Replies...Just no. I feel trapped just by looking at this. It kinda terrifies me.
Erick Garcia from the Los Angeles-based design firm Maison Trouvaille told Vogue that our perception of our home has undergone a dramatic change recently. “We have been forced to slow down and spend time in our homes—this drives a strong desire to really create a space that reflects both visually and affectionately what it is we are feeling. As of lately we are paying close attention to how design has the ability to create an energy.”
As a result, every corner and every object we're surrounded by must serve some sort of purpose. So experts suggest that we may see a shift towards more functional interiors, as well as more emotional ones, like travel or hobby-inspired.
At One With Nature – Architecture: Yodezeen Architects
The look does have a certain modernistic/minimalist appeal, but "one with nature" is not how I would describe it. Too many straight lines and right angles, far too few living things and far too little green or really any color (except for one custom designed bonsai miniscape in a strictly confined oblong bed).
It's to do with the organic and raw materials used, the large windows allow outside nature to be viewed freely and invites it into the space, this build is a beautiful composition of a modern house, with straight lines of modernism, and naturalistic elements that provide a soothing balance. I think "at one with nature" suits it beautifully.
Load More Replies...How long do you think that Pine Tree would live considering it has no direct light over or around it. My guess about two weeks. I guess you would have changing it out before it showed signs of loosing its life…
Oh I thought it would be the entrance of a hotel or something like that

why do these high-end designers insist on no hand railings...there is a reason people most stairs have them!

Mountain House
I see my self yeeting myself across to the other end and vise versa, never staying in the middle..
Load More Replies...No way, no how, thank you very much! It's not real anyway, it's an architect's concept right now: https://rezamohtashami.com/portfolio-posts/mountain-accommodation/
Right a lot of these are concept homes and not real. Do you know a place with a valley and two edges this close together?
I agree! There are so many heady engineering and geological principals in play here that it simply boggles the mind...
Load More Replies...Catenary Waves By Javier Valero
Depressingly grey (the aesthetics of poured concrete is not for me) waste of space (I get the vibes of a lonely survivor of the latest apocalypse calling out a lonely "Hello?" in the delapidated ruin of some spacious hall.
Hits me as incredibly lonely and depressing. The lack of colour and the solo human figure just screams loneliness to me. Luckily, it's not real, just a fantasy concept: https://www.behance.net/gallery/99682485/Catenary-Waves
@Tiny Dancer, I was wondering where it could be, seeing the city behind it, but for some reason learning that makes me feel better. Thank you!
Load More Replies...It reminds me of where a female super-villian would hang out...watching over the city plotting her next move...lol Idk why but that's what came to mind!
This is also a no for me right up to the edge with the water like a fish tank.
Puertovallarta Beach Side House
I am in! Pretty sure they filmed an episode of "Death In Paradise" here. The pool and table area looks very familiar.
I'd immediately exchange this for a campfire place directly at the beach. Had marvelous sights, food and chillling at those along the beaches of Dahab or on one of the Keys in Belize
Knowing my luck and my superpower for being incredibly clumsy I would trip on the stairs and faceplant in the fire ☹️
Epoxy Table By Abraham Wood Decor
Beautiful desk, but the lack of wire management destroys it for me...
Two loose wires are hardly lack of wire management. But if so, i have about twenty on the back of my desk, so i have wire armageddon.
Load More Replies...I own that mouse. 5 bucks from target. Used it to click the comment button just now lol
A Magic Mouse is $99, and even at Target it runs for $79.99 before taxes (and they are out of stock).
Load More Replies...I do like these live edge epoxy waterfall tables and counters everyone is doing but I'm just curious how this trend will be looked at years from now lol like how we look at our dated things
Why is there no mousepad? Over, time, the mouse will leave scratch marks on the table
Industrial Beauty – Design: Pat N
I guess if I could afford it I wouldn't have much cause to complain, "Ugh... I have to go upstairs to get a book... again."
In The Heart Of Nature – Design: @diachok.vld
Nice at first glance, but I hate that staircase. 1) One side open (no railing): accident waiting to happen 2) open steps right above the kitchen counter. Might as well put your dirty socks/shoes directly in the salad bowl. Also sleeping right above the sink (and stove?) within direct view to/of the sitting area and a comletely see-through glass front? My bed is my cave, not a public display perfumed with eau de fried bacon.
I used to live in a very small apartment with a steep staircase like this, leading up to a berth with a bed under the roof ridge. And while all my guests thought it was really cute, it came with several disadvantages. Very steep stairs - don't be drunk, don't wear slippery socks. Climbing up the stairs every time I needed something from my "bedroom". Also, very difficult to clean - carrying a vaccum cleaner up and down those stairs, etc. And oh, there was the time when I was I cleaning upstairs and accidentally kicked the water bucket down. Superpretty cleaning up that mess. Also, sleeping under the roof ridge during hot summers is not recommended.
I actually don't hate this. I don't love it either, but it shows what one can do with minimal space. With some of the teeny tiny spaces I've seen on BP this isn't so bad🤷♀️
Traditionally, modern architects have been famous for leaky roofs (Frank Lloyd Wright was infamous for same) but lately they seem to have switched to killer staircases, like the one shown here. For other problems w/this design, see below for Nicole Weymann's astute observations.
Forest Villa
Looks great, until you realize what the max fill would be. Your hips will be wet but your feet and chest will be high and dry.
Load More Replies...If I needed to implement this, I would likely use a high-end pump system for water in and out. Easily housed (and hidden) in the two end supports.
Load More Replies...So do modern architects have something against having handrails on awkward stairs?
I have not solved the mystery of the non-draining tub, but I did find out this is a very real boutique hotel with only 10 rooms (https://www.archdaily.com/940252/visaya-hotel-atdesign) and you can book a trip (https://www.trip.com/hotels/deqing-hotel-detail-62662946/visaya-yijing-guesthouse/). Now, about that tub.
Rainbow Colored Bridge In Giant Hand By Ta Landscape Architecture

Modern Mosque Dubai
I doubt women in mini skirts are allowed in Dubai Mosques, or any mosque as a matter of fact.
It's a Mosque they have decency rules for their woman.
Load More Replies...I love that they show a shadow of a woman in a short skirt and short hair. No woman is going to be allowed in there.
One COULD say that she wears long leggings underneath. That, with long sleeves, a thin scarf around the head and it shouldn't be a problem.
Load More Replies...I imagine the sun shadows would be pretty. (Sounds odd, but I think that's what it's called)
Ocean Views
wow. Talk about minimalism! I bet those light fixtures are a joy to keep clean AND change the light bulbs in! :)
If you're rich enough to afford this, you're rich enough to afford to hire people to change the lightbulbs. :-)
Load More Replies...The Penthouse — Design: Archillusion
It's not jealousy that makes me dislike stuff like this. Sure, I wish I had this kind of money. But, if I did, my house or apartment would look like a HOME and not a hotel lobby.
Hmm, would be a pain in the butt if you left your coffee downstairs...
i wish it could be a ramp instead of stairs for those with mobility difficulties! but yeah WOW
Ocean Kitchen By Robert Kolenik
The benchtop lifts up on hydraulics https://kolenikdesign.com/ocean-kitchen/
Load More Replies...Treating fish or any living creatures as interior decor isn't cool,, just cruel.
How is this any different from someone who keeps a large, salt-water tank? One of my best friends has had salt-water fish, corrals, starfish, for decades! He fawns over them like other people fawn over their cats and dogs. His fish live long lives, uneaten by predator fish. Methinks you need to calm down & let people enjoy things.
Load More Replies...Probably a hydraulic elevator brings it to you from a secret alcove
Load More Replies...Where does the sink water run off to, where's the piping for the taps?
I'm guessing they are disguised inside of the rocks. They have some rocks hanging from the top too
Load More Replies...I'd be too anxious about accidently kicking or bashing the tank with my shopping.
This is way too stressful for the fish. Every time this one comes up, it bugs me.
Restaurant By Paul Milinski
"Sorry, may I have another fork? Mine just fell in the water and weird ginger singing half fish stole it to brush her hair. This place is lit, I swear"
ok pandas, I looked it up. Paul Milinski's "series of imagined environments" is digital art. No fish, waitstaff, environments, or diners are being harmed :) further research finds this to be part of his Peninsula Series
Thank you for looking this up 😃. I started to wonder how the stools/tables haven't started to "sink" deeper into the sand over time.
Load More Replies...I'd eat there at night, too much direct sun in the day and I'm a delicate petal lol
Waiters should wear something to protect their legs. Constantly in water cause them health issues. May be self service better.
You do realize that some people in SE Asia for example live pretty much all day long in the water? Spending several hours a day in crystal clear high temp sea water won’t cause you any harm… Don’t bring western sanitary obsessions in places where people have been living differently for centuries…

Hotel Coma Uma Canggu
To my mind this is a very cold, lonely place where I don't want to be.
Can you imagine, you're chillin on that chair vibin, the BOOM you are flattened by a giant piece of glass 💀
You gave me My Cousin Vinny flashbacks. ☺️ Imagine you're a deer. You're prancing along, you get thirsty, you spot a little brook, you put your little deer lips down to the cool clear water... BAM! A f¿¢€ing bullet rips off part of your head!
Load More Replies...It's nice, and Bali is always fun, but this image is a little misleading about the "isolation" of the place. Keep in mind, while it's very nice, it's also a resort hotel. We enjoyed our stay, but I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't also there as part of some huge "bridesmaids getaway weekend" thing.

If the “Chameleon Villa” doesn’t regularly change colors all by itself I would say it is extremely misleadingly named.

Ibm-Office Building By Nathan Brami Architecture
For some reason, which I can’t quite put my finger on, I think it would be a hellish place to work.
Because it's apparently in the middle of nowhere and thus designed to prevent people from leaving easily? I got the same feeling and can only think of that
Load More Replies...My dad worked for IBM. His building looked like a concrete box. This is much more interesting!

I'd rather have a regular bed and enjoy the room than have this bed which distracts from the views.
I'd love to have a bed that lets you see the views plus has a dope TV built in for when I feel like watching something after a long day. Good thing this one has both!
Load More Replies...took the tv out of the bedroom more than a decade ago. best decision ever.

don't care this one, I'd rather have a big pretty ornately carved bed. As much as I love sci-fi, I just don't like this

The last thing my wife would want to see, when entering the bathroom, is my bits floating around.

Not other EVERY and dry it down with Terry cloth.

This would be extra cool if there were tiny Mercury, Venus, etc. lamps throughout the house, all the correct relative size and distance.
You do realize this is impossible since the house would need to be very very very big? This is a ~1 meter moon, Mars should be on average 66 kilometer away to be proportionally correct
Load More Replies...Same. But how many people can say that a problem of theirs is bonking their head on the moon regularly. See?

If it were (un)lit as shown here, I'd need out after a few minutes. It's so dark and sterile with so little color that it's depressing me just thinking about it.
Giving off a super villain vibe. Like that tree is the last surviving vegetation on earth. And is that a shower in the middle of nowhere?
Dreamland By Jo-Anie Charland
Beautiful but very sparse and no personality. Can't imagine being able to relax there, I'd be sitting on a lounge chair looking over my shoulder every second for sci-fi monsters or something
The personality is in the curvature of the walls, in the reflection of the water, in the way the sea and sky are invited into the house to compliment the inner space so that they are both nearly indistinguishable. The personality is that the design is so otherworldly you can forget where and when you are.
Load More Replies...I love how the light plays on the curving bits. It seems like it would be very quiet and relaxing, but only as long as nobody else were there. (Well, the husband, but not the cats. I'd worry too much about them.)
My interpretation of the intention is that it's like a pallet for you to paint your life onto. You provide the experiences.

Load More Replies...Three cheers for engineers who then have to make extraordinary concepts actually work, and three cheers for builders who have to grapple with both architects and engineers. Kudos to all of them for not throttling each other.
Is it only me, but IMHO most of them are digital renderings, or pointless impractical design exercise. Some ideas are great, but not practical from long or short term. Great to take photos only.
Please somebody tell interior designers that there are more colours in the world than just white, beige, gray and black. It's getting out of hand, almost everything is monochromatic.
These marvelous designs are always a cleaning and maintenance nightmare.
A lot of them will have hidden storage spaces that you can just dump your stuff into.
Load More Replies...So many of these are incredibly clinical and lacking warmth or a sense of humanity. Get the feeling that Patrick Bateman would love to live in any of the residences, but they're not for moi even if I had the money.
The majority of them simply don’t exist. They are ideas, projects, not real.
Most of these designs seem creative, dramatic and unlivable. They're more like exercises and show-off designs to pad the architect's portfolio and impress clients.
My back already hurts just looking at all of these chair and couch designs with next to zero back support.

Is it only me, but IMHO most of them are digital renderings, or pointless impractical design exercise. Some ideas are great, but not practical from long or short term. Great to take photos only.

These marvelous designs are always a cleaning and maintenance nightmare.
A lot of them will have hidden storage spaces that you can just dump your stuff into.
