We all love a good mystery, don’t we? Sometimes, the most unexpected things happen right under our noses. Maybe you’ve seen an oddly shaped cloud or caught an animal doing something completely out of character. It’s like the world is full of little puzzles just waiting to be solved.
The Facebook page ‘All Things Strange and Unusual’ is where people love to share these curious moments or sometimes weird pics. We’ve had a good look through their posts and rounded up some of their most peculiar ones for you to enjoy. Scroll down to check them out, and don’t miss our chat with one of the group’s admins, Kushani Gunathilaka.

For Anyone Feeling A Bit Sad, Here's A Picture From A Woman Who Makes Teddy Bears For Her Pet Rat
Love it. Wish I could have a pet rat. It is unfortunately illegal where I am.
I’m allergic to rodents :(. Plus my cats and turtles require enough maintenance (mainly the turtles).

“This is why the internet was made,” comments one of the group’s followers under a recent post, perfectly capturing the spirit of ‘All Things Strange and Unusual.’ The page shares everything from bizarre fish and confusing street signs to mind-boggling shoes—exactly the kind of content we’ve come to love online. Perhaps that’s why, despite being around for only a few months, it already has over 66,000 followers.
Kenya Power And Lighting Company Replaced The Poles But Retains The Woodpecker's Home
Most people don’t realize in the USA even we have Federal Migratory Bird Act. It is federally illegal to remove bird nests no matter where they are located. If it’s in spot you don’t like to bad. Law states that inconvenience is not a reason to remove and relocate. If birds will seriously or likely be injured in their current spot you call your local wildlife manager. Or your states department of natural resources and they will handle it. Why people get all out of shape because a nest on their porch or similar is beyond me. I have bird complex on back porch. 6 nests in a row this year and they keep coming back.
I was taught that a bird nest on your porch, deck, awning, etc is good luck. .

To learn more about what makes the group so fascinating, Bored Panda spoke with Kushani Gunathilaka, one of its admins. “Connecting with our community and sharing things that add value to people is such a thrill!” she enthuses.
Kushani loves the incredible variety of content that members contribute. “The group is very fun, creative, and active. There’s no room for monotony here,” she says. “People all across are sharing things that you don’t see or hear often, and it takes excitement to a whole other level.”

Uh, if I tell you I did that when my son was little, what does that make me?
I once had the pleasure of seeing a chimpanzee mother blowing raspberries onto her baby‘s belly. She did the whole ordeal, wagging her head and waving her hands in the air before she would blow the raspberry, and she and the baby kept laughing the whole time. I‘ve never felt so strongly how animals and humans are the same.

Another post that captured Kushani’s heart was a photo of a duck nest nestled among plants for sale at Walmart—not something you come across every day. The workers had put up a sign asking people not to disturb the nest. “It’s rare to see people go above and beyond to protect something other than themselves, especially nowadays,” Kushani remarks.

This Shadow On The Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction, Az, The Cougar, Only Appears Twice A Year For Approximately A Week Just As The Sun Is Setting
If anyone is interested, the lighter-shaded stripe near the top of the mountain is on the side of a formation called the Flatiron. The entire mountain formed during ancient volcanic activity. The trail to get up top is not easy (you'll climb several large boulders in a ravine near the top), but 10-year-olds can make it up with a little help. Here's a short drone video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRhkQDINQj0) You can see the ravine in the video from 0:29 to about 0:50
I was in malta on a boat trip and jesus appeared similarly, just when the boat was at a certain point in the sea with the shade of another mountain & the sunlight hitting it all at the same time. I said "jesus" and pointed and everyone else stared at what I was pointing at, then at me. It was surreal, the others all gasped in amazement.

Beyond the group, Kushani sometimes has her own encounters with the ‘strange and unusual.’ “I once had a dream about a place where I went to eat and drink with a group of people. It felt so real, but I had never seen that place before,” she recalls. A few months later, her brother visited a restaurant abroad, and it was eerily similar to the place in her dream. “I was confused, to say the least.”

A White Raven Spotted Around Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island, Canada. Photo: Lisa Bell
Wow. A story I've heard most my life (of Tlingit origin; the Tlingit people having inhabited land in Southwest British Columbia to Southeast Alaska) is that Raven used to be white, but he was blackened by the smoke of a fire as he was escaping from a powerful man who had the sun and the moon and the stars in cedar boxes. He tricked the man's daughter, and the man, into thinking he was a baby (of the daughter's) and eventually he opened the boxes and brought light to the world, but was turned black for his efforts. I'm super paraphrasing here lol but in my people's language, I can't spell it in English, (but I'll write it so the sound is similar) this white "trickster" raven was named "Yaoth". This photo is incredible and gives credence to the legend of The Light-Bringer
Leucistic. Albinos have pink or red eyes.

Yes, Green Roses Are Real And They Are Very Special And Very Old
Apparently Green roses are extremely uncommon and do exist in nature, unlike black or blue roses. Sepals were eventually discovered to be the green, leaf-like structures that had replaced the flower’s red, pink, or yellow stamen, carpel, and petals. The aberrant transformation of floral components into leafy structures, known as phyllody, is thought to be the outcome of a random mutation. Since the flower is primarily formed of layers of sepals and has no reproductive organs, there won’t be any pollination, and no seeds will be created for this rose plant’s subsequent generation. Cuttings and graftings can be used to spread the unusual plant instead.
…….. but doesn’t that mean that it cannot spread itself? Wouldn’t it die out without humans?

In some ways, our brain is wired to seek out novel images, sounds, and words due to survival instincts passed down from our ancestors—“Hmm…that growl in the night doesn’t quite sound like my mate’s usual snore…”
However, recent findings suggest it’s because we are constantly motivated to explore our environments, take risks, and learn new things in search of rewards.
It’s Called A Walking Palm Tree Because It Does Actually Walk. When It Chooses A Location To Go Towards, It Grows New Roots In That Direction And Lets The Trailing Roots Die Back

Radford writes in the December 2009 Skeptical Inquirer that "As interesting as it would be to think that when no one is around trees walk the rainforest floor, it is a mere myth", and cites two detailed studies that came to this conclusion. Other advantages of stilt roots over normal roots have since been proposed. Swaine proposed in 1983 that they allow the palm to colonise areas where there is much debris (for example, dead logs) as they can avoid it by moving their roots. Hartshorn suggested in 1983 that stilt roots allow the palm to grow upwards to reach light without having to increase the diameter of the stem. It was also thought that the roots may confer an advantage when the palm is growing on a slope, but no evidence has been found that this is the case.

Load More Replies...The company went downhill when Sam Walton died and his family sold out. I spent 14 years at store #8241 Midwest City, Oklahoma that was the first SC ever built, so Sam Walton made frequent visits to our club from Bentonville, Arkansas. I had the honor of meeting him and the one thing that we all talked about was how down to earth, kind and generous he was too his employees. SW actually looked out for his employees and the company started to turn to s**t less then10 years after his death. The only thing that made it bearable was occasionally we would get some truly awesome managers. Those guys and some of my co-workers are the reason I stuck it out for as long as I did.
Ooo core memory unlocked! During covid the lab I worked at (for Costco) closed down and we were sent out to the stores. This was early covid and my medical worker partner has always worked with very high-risk people, so when asked where I wanted to work I opted for pushing carts in the parking lot (open air, not near people, etc.) A mama duck made a nest in a bush in the parking lot! I remember seeing a duck run out of a bush one day, I looked in the bush and saw several long brown eggs. I put up cones and watched that spot like a hawk. It was very satisfying weeks later when I saw her waddle out with a bunch of cute babies 😭

The Architect Who Never Goes To School
It's even smarter than first glance. Lots of weaver birds nests have a fake entrance to fool snakes.
I'm always so absolutely amazed when I find an abandoned bird nest. The weave work is so incredible. A machine couldn't make a better one.
How much does the nest weigh? Is it attached to leaves or a branch we dont see in photo?
They are very light and attached by a few grasses to the end of a branch, with the entrance to the nest underneath. Any snake that tried to enter would fall from the branch by its own weight. Weaver birds are master nest makers.

For my very first job, I worked at our local zoo assisting the keepers (an awesome program for kids wanting to go into some types of animal science). I will never forget feeding the tiger (Ivan) in his underground enclosure (public doesn't really know about those, but they are vital) so I was inches from him, we did enrichment games with him and his paw was bigger than my entire chest width. And not by a little. People say paws as big as your head, but a big one that's full grown? That's seriously understating it.
The experience is sort of like walking up to a highway road sign, it's massive compared to what we observe from a distance. Same wild effect. Ivan's head was as big as a hula hoop. I was also surprised that he was bigger than any of the lions!

For Those Who Don't Know The Difference Between A Crocodile And An Alligator, The Crocodile Is The One Next To The Alligator
Well, the alligator is the one you'll see later and the crocodile is the one you'll see in a while.
The one on the left is an alligator. Alligators typically have darker, bluish skin, a round face, only the top teeth showing, and have legs designed for walking. Crocodiles have greenish or brownish skin, a v-shaped face, both top and bottom teeth showing, and have less defined knees.
What's the old line? One you'll see later, the other you'll see in a while.
What's the difference between an alligator and a crocodile? Alligators are dark colored with a broad, rounded snout and are usually found in fresh water. Crocodiles are grayish-green and prefer coastal, brackish and salt-water habitats. They have a narrow, tapered, triangular snout.

Duct tape was originally called "duck" tape when it was invented during World War II to keep moisture out of ammunition cases. The tape was made from an army green cotton duck fabric and was water-resistant, which was said to repel water like a duck's back. The tape was later used for repairs and sealing ducts, which is how it got its current name. However, some research suggests that the tape shouldn't be used on ducts because it can become brittle and flammable and can release harmful gases when it smolders. As a result, many building codes prohibit its use for ductwork.
